Well I finally pulled the trigger and brought this one home. Along with some extras The deck is included not pictured. Well I took a few photos to start with. Now is the time to research, make a list of missing parts then tear it down and bring her back to life.

Seriously is there a 12-step program for Wheel Horse owners ? 😁 I know there's guys just got a lot more than I do but I just bought number six and seven. Bought a 520h with 650 hours on it with tiller, snow blower and mower deck for 400. Only thing I could find was wrong with it was the regulator rectifier was gone and about a pint of water in the gas tank. Got it running fine and the hydro and everything is okay. About a week ago I bought a 417a with 805 hours with mower deck for $50. Don't really know why it was ever parked but it was covered up with a heavy tarp for a number of years. Of course moisture came up from the ground and rusted a lot of stuff but not real bad. Took me about half a day to get the engine going right. Had carburetor issues and the points were bad. Also again a bunch of water in the gas tank and fuel lines. Everything works fine now. I was going to post a video of them running but the file is too large use. Stable: 3 417A's 2 C175's 1 520h 1 Toro WH....257 if I remember right 4 48" mower decks 1 48" tiller 2 48" single stage snow blowers 1 2 stage snow blower A few mule drives hitches and other miscellaneous stuff

Hey all, Been here for a while don't post much but read a lot. Currently have a few horses in the stable and found a new one to add. I am having a hard time finding much out about it. I know that you guys can tell me what I have. This little tractor was being put to the road for trash. It still has the lot number tags on the snow plow. The muffler is not even rusty. The old man said that his father in law had it and didn't use it. Pic is worth a thousand words so... Pic it apart, bust the bubble so to speak. But I am happy to have it lol

Would make a cool show cruzer for the women folk! Nothin like horning in on someone else's score, comes around goes around I guess. BTW did I mention I charge by the mile for trailer rent??!?! I was always taught that when you borrow someone else's trailer for a tractor score your 'posed return it with a tractor in it!

Picked up a 68 or 69 bolens lawn keeper today on my 953 haul. My nabor had one of these when I was a kid and I got it when he passed away when I was 11 it didn't run when I got it I didn't even know what it was other then what I thought was a home made tractor, I tried and tried and tried to get it to run but I had very little experience with motors so I said enough it had to go... So today I was about to leave to go get the 953 and happen to find the same model tractor I was given when I was a kid and it was for sale for 100 message the guy said he had a guy coming tomorrow for 20 he had to get it gone so I offer 30 today and he bit runs and drives with a deck will make a heck of a grass cutter being articulated.

If the existing fluid is red or pink, replace it with ATF. If it is amber, replace it with motor oil. The filter is NAPA 1410.

Just got my FAVORITE rag in the mail today, LGAT and just thumbing thru the pages to get to coverage and I find this. Our very own @Achto's rat rod! We hauled this thing out to the BS last June and well trained eyes in the form of Matt @grnlark Castagno spotted it as a center piece for a such a well written article. Dan says a big THANKS Matt! This tractor is always a show must have for Dan and gets looks....alot of looks. Too many as it would seem as youngsters want to play on it and pick the moss off much as Gretzki (his wife as I call her) would have done..oh no no no... patina. I remember one lad proclaiming at one show "daddy this tractor has grass growing on it, we need to mow it!" I think it was at Symco Dan I CRS but 'bout died laughing. Had another looking at it once and said why don't you sand...I stopped him short and threatened bodily harm. Since Dan is considered a regular at most of the shows we attend the Rat Rod is quite well known local and he, and I the few times I have run it, often get the flip up hand signal meaning do a wheelie. Unbelievable how people just love that! Now I had known about the Rat Fink caricatures for many years but never knew about the Ed "Big Daddy" Roth's creation of such a character that provided such a good humor to many sports & hobbies and it will be always a big part of Americana history. Thank you Matt for that tidbit of info. Many more pics and input to follow.....

That right there is some well taken and very appreciated advice. I can pretty nearly guarantee you that that would have happened to me. You may have noticed I'm not the smallest fellow in the world so that lever is actually going to be on the inside of my knee. Eric, Not that it's any of my business, but if you are cradling that lever on the inside of your knee, you might also want to consider wearing a cup........! Just saying. Cheers! Dave

Browsing through local craigslist ads and found this in St. Louis Missouri. Looks like somebody had a creative imagination. When was the last time you saw one of these!?

Maybe 15 minutes away. I'm on the south side not too far off the bypass. Let's plan on meeting. Maybe coffee/breakfast, you come here, me there or whatever suits you. Being a retired old codger I have a pretty flexible schedule.

Picked up a charger 12 at auction yesterday. Put a battery, new fuel lines and a new spark pug in and it fired right up. Hydro seems to work pretty well, lever needs some adjustments but other wise it seems okay. I would like to put fresh transmission fluid in and a new filter on yet and then it should be good to go. I'm gonna start using this for plowing instead of my 753, i tried it out today and it seemed to work pretty well. The paint on the fenders and hood is a little off but it wont be hard to fix that.

First batch of red paint. I scuff the etching primer with a grey scuff pad, degrease, and spray paint out in the driveway. Two light coats then a third, heavier coat of red.

Yes, there is a program! It's called moving to Texas. Move here and your supply will dry up completely. That's the reason I only have 1! Can't see why anyone would ever want to kick the habit, though! Any pics?

Plenty of them were produced. Desirable in what way? If you mean are they collectible, probably not. If your asking if they are a good all around machine the answer is yes. Thrifty on fuel, the Magnums are easy to maintain and are a relatively trouble free motor. It’ll spin a 36 or 37” deck with ease and as long as the grass isn’t wet or long even a 42” deck. Snow plowing is more about traction than HP so I bet it would be a good snow plowing machine. My opinion is that a 42” single stage snow blower is a bit to much for an 8HP machine but there are a few guys that run em.

The auction was near Strasburg, PA, south of Lancaster, on Saturday 11/3. The collector passed away. There were 25 WHs, 16 Panzers, a Bush Hog, a Strunk Chipmunk that sold for over $3000, two Bantams that went for $2000 each, a GardenMaster EarthMaster for $2200, a Squire Applegate, an Eshlman, a few J Deeres, lots of Simplicities, a Page, and lots of other rare tractors in various states of repair. The Bantams were so nice that the owner had them stored in his livingroom. Lots of good pictures still on CL Lancaster, PA. I was lucky enough to score a nice 856 and a model 16 Automatic, as well as a bunch of parts. (pictures if it ever stops raining) Jim

If he keeps it that way it will still look better than the rest of the interior in that Dodge in a few years . Also how sad is it when your Live To Ride sticker is almost as large as your vehicle.

That answers my question, thanks. It creeps in neutral right now but that should fix it. I really like the look of the Chargers and Electros, so far I like how they work too.

Welcome to another Michigander that make's great stuff. And the nice thing is we're almost neighbor. I can see by your work you need me as a friend. Hahaha And a man who knows great tractors. I also have a C160 that's my favorite.

thank you, for saving that tractor ! just the thought of that going to metal scrap is scary. hybrid, restomod, whatever ,it looks very good . good luck with it , no problem being happy, pete

Very cool tractor, I like the combo of the square hood and the rounder-style fenders. Looks like it was a well-done build, not a hack-job. Definitely a great buy at $200. Cant believe the previous owner was gonna trash it

Welcome @bellevillerod! I like the look of a spring seat on anything ! If you decide it wasn’t worth $200, I’ll be on my way!

Who are you kidding, you know it would be full of parts!

That is one fine looking Frankinhorse and any of us would be proud to have it in our stable! Glad you picked it up rather than some metal scrapper driving by. There is now!

I did give him 200.00 for the tractor I figured the moon caps and snow blade was worth that.
  45. 3 points
So do we call him WHX22.5 after he buys that or are we leaving out the bath tub? Lol
  46. 3 points
Definitely a franken horse custom but superbly well done with taste and dignity. Looks to be a 753 mated to a later 67 or Raider front. Somebody at one time loved that tractor You serious about that being set out for trash!?!? BTW tell us about your other s.
