11 pointsHey guys! Just picked up my first horse, it's a C-100. I think it's a '75, paid $300 for it. Has a mowing deck but I don't know what size. I'm on my way home with it so I'll have to find out more in a bit!
-
9 pointsFinally got the stack installed, getting that threaded pipe out of the head needed a little persuasion but all went well, and it looks fantastic thanks to Jim Kemp!
-
9 pointsI currently have this saw mill hooked up to an Oxford Allen scythe , I plan to convert it to run on one of my tractors hopefully it will fit to my RJ58 it already has a kohler k90 which I plan to transplant onto the RJ
-
7 pointsNow mind you guys this was all done with TURF tires, and no WEIGHTS 'cept for my carcass in the seat. Sure ther was some tire spinning going on but the old girl and I soldiered on. Less than tank of gas.
-
7 pointsWell since Hillbilly didn't want extended seat time to come over with his FEL and Tractorhead doesn't have a snorkel on his FEL I had to do it all with a lowly 867 and a mid mount. You canaries can make all the fun you want about the short comings of a 8 HP but here's the truth. Two loads of screenings all done with said tractor. New horse hide out ready to move in! When I started .... When I was done

5 pointsMy nephew has built two band saw mills. The first one was stationary and he found the dirt from moving the logs was destroying the blades. He has now built a mill on a trailer and he takes the mill to the tree keeping it as clean as possible. He uses two trailer spindles, wheels and tires to support and tension the saw blade, and the third drive wheel to drive the saw. I believe he uses an 8HP Honda engine. I'll try to get some pictures.

4 pointsDon't quite remember being invited for said "excavation" party but something tells me you wouldn't have waited for me to show up anyways .
-
4 pointsThe wife of a good friend posted some pictures of storm damage at her house.I went to check on him and took these pictures. No one was hurt but anything can happen during clean up.

4 pointsThe 8" stack is a little quieter than the 6" only because the way the baffle is built , they have the same design but the gases have to travel a little more so that aids to make them quieter , its not by much but it is a little , I did a test about a year ago and made one 18" long with the same style baffle and it made a huge difference in sound , if you really want them to be quiet I can build one with a double baffle , and that also aids in them being quiet but they start to get pretty heavy and should be braced to the motor , I think I'm on the 5 or 6th baffle design , but now I'm trying to get the design down for the 300 series tractor muffler using the design from the stack muffler , I have a few out there waiting to hear back from the guys on fit and sound and if it works out they will also come with a polished aluminum heat shield for a custom look , stay tuned !!!

4 pointsYou an ex school teacher...What is you r answer and why???? sounds like a test 74 should be a piston to piston 73 a hydro gear. You can do some repair work on a piston to piston...more so than a hydro gear. My experience is very good with hydro gears, to me they are not quite as sensitive to foreign object damage (chewed up parking brake) but if they are damaged it is repair by replacement.

4 points@JAinVA Well Jim just proves tall Virginia pines are no match the wind. Hopefully there was not too much damage. The way the wind was blowing up here I thought I was going to find all the roof shingles in the neighbors yards. Got lucky and just had to pick up a few small branches .

4 pointsAny lawn and garden solenoid will do the job. Auto parts stores, Tractor Supply and even Wallyworld carry them. The one in the picture has two small terminals, one of them would need to be grounded for it to work.
-
4 pointsI spent the day with Mark today while he received his second of now 4 scheduled chemo treatments. He is in good spirits and is convinced he can beat this. I told him the Red Square family is sending prayers and good wishes. We all thank you for your help in fighting this battle.

4 pointsSeems I might have stirred some opinions (good and bad) of the Amish folk. I don't agree with some of their philosophy as at times it appears hypocritical, but I have had pretty good relationships with those I have dealt with. I have seen them hire a high tech engineering firm to do a seismic study of the farm creating a geological map of the water table to find the perfect location of the wells to irrigate the farm and greenhouse. When I questioned the owner about the long distance the wells were located from the greenhouse and the large pumps that would be required to move the water, he explained they use compressed air to power almost all their equipment and the well casings are sealed and pressurized. No pumps are used, the water is pushed by the compressed air. Yesterday, they moved two large propane tanks near the barn. I assume the compressor will be driven by a propane fueled engine. I hope they have a good nelson muffler on the engine as it will probable see 24/7 duty. I am impressed watching the 2-6 men build the house and 40'X80' barn in 4 weeks. Both were stick built on site with the exception of the barn roof trusses. Yes, the deer population will suffer and my view is changing, but I have been assured I can continue to maintain and use the 1/4 mile of right-of-way as I have for 50+years. And this change is certainly better than a housing development , industry park, or commercial hog farm. Another 164 acres of this same farm will be auctioned off next Saturday and due to the large amount of road frontage, I am afraid it will be developed. This parcel is located directly across the road from me. I'll post more pics as this develops. Thanks for following along ….

3 pointsI have an identical pair of the 7" cast iron rims from a mid '50s rototiller. It looked like this one. It also had a front mounted sickle bar mower that was driven off the output shaft at the front. When my dad bought it we had been looking at a RJ, I was soooooo disappointed when he chose the Rototiller. I was counting on riding in style, not walking in the dirt!
-
3 pointsI picked up these 2 Cast Iron Rims at the scrap metal yard while I was selling some old aluminum tin. Not sure what I’ll use them on, but there cool looking. They are cast in 3 pieces, right side , left , side, center spider him. They have a 1” bore. The right side has a cast # 1917 and the left side has cast # 1928. The old paint looks to be Red. The tire is a Goodyear , Studded Tread, R .80/4.00. The Tire has what I think is a date number 196797. Which I think reads 1967, 9th month, 7th day. They were on the remains of a broken gear box, possible from a tiller or walking tractor. Anybody recognize them??

3 pointsOk so after some more tinkering, yes I do have the magneto ignition. It seems to work now but the spark is really weak. It was good enough to actually get it to fire up and run though. I used an external fuel tank. The engine actually sounds really good so I'm happy there. Gonna order a new coil anyways just to be safe. Also a carb kit won't hurt as you can tell the carb is dirty. But it runs so that's sweet.
-
3 pointsMade a permanent cover and installed an eight inch flange and 90*, works great.
-
3 pointsI don't dare say what I think because our moderators would have to shut this thread down if I did!
-
3 pointsSince you have no spark and no crank I would suspect the ignition switch and related wiring before the solenoid. See if you have 12 volts on the little solenoid wire with the key in the crank position. If you don't check the switch and even though your ammeter moves you can have a bad connection there.

3 pointsThis picture was taken this morning with my son . I know there is a few photos of myself at that age on the same tractor with my father and grandfather. I'll dig them out later. Here's a start. Grandfather bought this gem brand new with all sorts of goodies. She's been working for 30 years and hasn't missed a moment.
-
3 pointsI built my own bandsaw mill almost 20yrs ago and it is powered by an 8 horse Honda.I don't see how using any Wheel Horse tractor as power source would be practical. If you want to cut lumber you ought to rethink the WH option. If you want to tinker that's another thing. The first picture is the mill at refresh 5 years ago.The second is the missus standing in the doorway of our picnic shelter.Except for the salt treated poles all the lumber came off this mill.
-
3 pointsIt took me and the missus 3 hours to get this off the roof. The trick was to do no collateral damages and stay out of the hospital.Mission accomplished. The last hurricane we lost 5 or 6 trees but Isabel dropped over 50 here.It took us 3 months to clean up the mess.I feel lucky and don't want in any way to compare this to what the folks in Fla have ahead of them. The photos from there are stunning.

3 pointsDo as much as possible in person and keep copious notes of times and dates and NAMES and facts of each interview with whoever, including your lawyer..notes written at the time (or close to ) are admissible in court ( where if you get there will be your best protection. ) A small journal would be invaluable...

3 pointsWith regard to health insurance, I did have an experience that may help you at some point Randy. Due to a dispute over vacation, I retired at 62 , took my pension, and began working as a contractor for the same company without any benefits. Under the COBRA law, I was able to keep my company group policy for two years. Of course I had to pay the full amount, but it was about two times what I was paying while I was an employee, around $300/month for pretty good health insurance for Mrs. K and myself. That ended when I was 64, so I had to buy insurance for another year. That cost me $1100, month and that was for a lousy $7500 deductible policy. I was then 65 and eligible for Medicare. My wife was 6 months from being 65, and that is when I learned there is a "short term health insurance available. The cost for this was $100/month. Just some info if you end up in this situation. OH, like Jim said, good luck with the SS system. I made the mistake of taking their suggestion and enrolled for SS and Medicare on line three months before my 65th birthday. Someone dropped the ball and it took me many hours waiting in line at the SS office to get it resolved.

3 points@RandyLittrell Randy I had to take disability in 2006 due to a fractured vertebrate . Based on my experience here is what I know . You can not be working at any job. A doctor has to write a boat load of stuff explaining you can not work at your profession and may have to include why you can't be trained to do something else. Get all of this done and go to a law firm that specializes in Social Security Disability Claims. I about drove my self nuts trying to do the work myself. I was turned down the first time. Lawyer got me disability in about 4 weeks. There is a set amount of money that a lawyer can charge for handling your claim. Social Security will back pay you. Say for example you quit working Nov.1 of this year and it takes 6 months for Social Security to say ok you are disabled. They will back pay you for the entire time. After 2 years of disability you are eligible for Medicare no matter what your age. Are your a veteran ? If so try to get health benefits from the VA.

3 pointsI have a johnson10 loader on a 1277 which is pretty close to a c-160 and would be happy to get any measurments you might want and any feedback if you were interested.

2 pointsSo my last event was a sucess. Problem was could not get tractor into gear, any of them. So I tore the trans down (8speed unidrive) with only the schematic and a 10 min youtube video that I skimmed through. The Input gear was worn, 1st/Rev gear worn, 2nd/3rd gear worn, plus detent springs(both) had issues. Now if you just researched all those gears and the prices like I did then you were probably seeing how much a complete tranny cost and started justifying the purchase. Folks, truly I tell you, I spent the cost of premium RTV, cola 12 pk, and $2.34 for the stupid ball bearings for the detent springs. (Super long story...ask if you must). I had the files needed plus the body tack puller. I flied down the lead edges of ALL the gears where the typical burr forms. If anyone is having these issues, I will GLADLY explain how i did it in detail. Sorry for no pics, I was extremely rushed. Send me pics of your gears if you have the same issues or similar issues like wont go into 2nd, 3rd, 1st, Rev, etc. I told you that story to tell you this one... Initial complaint, "Broke the drive belt" Okay I said, I noticed it was worn maybe it finally let go. Fixed the drive belt, had some spin on the mower deck meaning hey....there is a reason the drive belt broke besides wear right? Upon further inspection the crank key slot is worn and the pulley is moving FORWARD CAUSING THE BELT TO MISALIGN. so my next project is going to be rebuilding the PTO assembly including the crank shaft without the following tasks: Spending more money than I want to... Buying new parts except for the friction clutch plate.....I have no time for brass rivets I will not, I say again, I will not pull the engine.... I truly believe I can fix this whole assembly without pulling the engine....that is my goal I promise to take and post pics on this one. Stay tuned with Genuine1979. A true mechanic can work on anthing.....Gas, Deisel, Big, Small.....HELL, I'm in the GUARD! I can do it ALL!!!!

2 pointsThese little tractors are harder to come by here than in some places, but they are around, half the fun here is the hunt for them, 4 of mine came from here locally, 1 of which I know was purchased brand new from a dealer here in Woodward, and the 5th one I purchased from Don and his son. I have a friend over in Claremore that collects these as well...maybe if enough Oklahoma collectors come out of the woodwork we can all get together for a small meet and greet one of these days

2 pointsThe seasons are a changin' . Went through the snow blower and blade today to make sure they are ready for what's to come. I've got all the pieces and parts ready to make the change over to the next season. Chains and weights, all set. Bring it on
-
2 pointsNot only the wheel weights but the rear suitcase weights and the tires are RV antifreeze loaded too.
-
2 pointsFall is here finally no more 90° and humidity!!! Got out and pushed a little dirt behind the house but unfortunately I need more weight in the back end. My big behind is not enough ha ha. Also gathering a little firewood for the fire pit too.

2 pointsNot to get off topic but when I worked there we still had books but the computer system was in it's infancy. I started there in 94. We still got new catalogs on occasion so I saved everything and took some of them home. I still have an Echlin truck and industrial book and Echlin Parts Illustration catalog but my unit part book seems to be missing. I know the new system they have at the store is pretty nice but they hired a bunch of flunkys who are there most weekends so not a lot of knowledge left. I have Napa Prolink so I could see the 2 parts I Illustrated were in stock here so I went there and took the pictures. I told the kid what I wanted them for and he insisted on trying to look them up. I told him you won't even find a listing for the tractor.
-
2 points@squonk did you take your books with you when you left. I worked there before computers when they covered about seven feet of counter space...
-
2 pointsNo they are the same length , yes the baffle has changed since I sent your mufflers out to you , they are a little quieter now but the sizes are the same

2 pointsGonna try to resurrect this thread. I’ll tweak it’s direction some to include tractors that you’ve owned for at least five years or that got you into the hobby. If you have have pictures of tractors that have been in your possession or your families possession for decades, please include those here. I was just rereading the above posts with pics and enjoying hem every bit as much as when I first read them...vintage tractor stories never get old the just become more embellished with age! This picture is only about 3 1/2 years old but it is a fabric of my life picture. This is GhostRider before his sinister paint job. I don’t ever plan to sell this plow mule and my youngest still loves to ride tractors and wants to plow himself now! Me, my brother, and Dad pose for a quick pic in the early 80’s on dad’s 875. AND SO...got any stories and or pics to share from decades back or only a few years ago?

2 pointsWith a slightly different background, this is a calendar shot here, looks like you even have armor all on the tires! Fine looking machine and a nice stack no doubt. Chrome tip gives a very custom touch As a matter of fact, I’m going to link you to one of our classic threads that your new setup would fit great in... This is a great vintage thread that with your new stack, you’ll probably find interesting.

2 pointsSudden onset assuming you didn't throw a rod is a valve getting stick or some carbon jamming it open. What is wrong with K12...spark may be quicker easier fix

2 pointsSo, today i did some few finetunings on it. Firstly i check, if it fits even everything i cooled down. Yes, it fit's, but then i found, the Angles of moving are bit to weak. So i improve it, to get a better handling on the Shovel, with an additional Link. Now i think i must Change the Lift Cylinder from only 10cm Range up to 20cm Range. but this will be made after Winter, if the Shovel does not work as expected. i dig a bit with it, and hey, everything lasts. I'm Happy about. ok, some small issues must be Tested an reinforced, but the Result itself is a Success to me. Especially it was just a Proof of Concept, if i can handle Myself things, i just Simulated on Computer before. I normally just make small but complex things for and with my 3D Printer, the actual i have was completely selfmade but i never build a huge Thing before, just by Planing and simulating Things ahead on Computer. Only on the Size of the Shovel i quarrel a bit to myself. Shall it be 1 m or shall it be 80cm... - hmm. But the decition to build it just 80cm was absolutely right. I don't imagine, that this small parts of Hydraulics have that brutal Force that i must tear down the Pressure. i doubt i will maybe work as expected, but all doubts are gone, because i have enough spare. I also painted it a bit in "used Style" and i love the Look now.

2 pointsFinally got tired of the missus leaving these lay around in the shop for me to stumble over.... put them where they belong!
