Inherited a Gt-1800 that sat for 8 years. Replaced battery, cables and fuel filter and it started up on 8 year old fuel in the tank. I replaced the blades and it runs and mows like a champ. Im hooked now. I caught the wheelhorse bug. Just a few small patch jobs on the deck to finish up

On the upside, I now have a relative who works at another landfill. Yes, she saves all the good stuff for me and even delivers! How cool is that?!!!

Son delivered a free Horse, 414-8. I liked the color of the delivery truck too.

For themselves, they sit stuff off to the side all the time... to make it happen, you just need to sweet talk($) the forklift operator there.

Sent the engine to the machine shop and had some free time. Started on the hood and running boards.. Took then down to bare metal, self etching primer and Regal Red. They were looking real good and then I was looking at the panel on the right side that hides the belt (aaarggg) Took it back down and put a skim coat of some 3M body putty and repainted Looks real good now Started on the seat pan.

This electric has a solar panel to keep the batteries charged.

The '88 414-8 was all black under the hood, PO thought "blown engine". After power washing, checked the oil. Dipstick was loose. One bolt missing, two bolts loose. Three new bolts and a new gasket. Oil change. Fixed the "blown engine". The Horse was company owned, they purchased a new "mower". Horse was in their warehouse for a number of years. "You want this Wheel Horse? You know it has a blown engine." Reluctantly I accepted the Horse even though it only had a 42" SD deck. Free delivery, otherwise I would have turned down the 14 hp Kohler Magnum. I had to tow the Horse a hundred yards to my barn! Towed the 414-8 with another Horse. The tow Horse runs great! Really got robbed the snow plow had a bent blade! More work for me and the grandsons. Nobody in their right mind would've taken a chance. I think? Ya agree? Robbed again! I have to go, blow my nose and wipe away the tears. Why do I put up with this poop?

Try Isavetractors ( I think that is the name they have head gaskets for your engine. I have 310-8 runs great too many safety switches for my liking but I am an ole goat.

I'm not on board scrapping,shredding, melting and returning good old salvagable into a MTD, but for every $ they gain through scrap is one less I pay them to dig a hole to bury my trash ...got look at it from both ends of your wallet...

It's rustoleum apple red. Looks like fire red in the shade which is still a shade or more up from regal red. My neice's favorite colour is baby blue. I said....that ain't happining so she picked apple red. Whewwwww........ avoided a clan war.

At the top of this section you will find a pinned thread with all kinds of paint recommendations. Bottom line is this tho ... The shade of red isn't really important as long as it's RED. It's alot like throwing hand grenades. ..just get it close.

About the only difference between a Magnum 10 and K241 is the ignition system. Magneto in magnum. no points to worry about needing adjustment Sounds like a thorough carb cleaning is order. I asked once how many people actually broke 1" axles that weren't using it as a puller or mounted duals... Do not think anyone had done it.

Good for you! What's wrong with the K Magnum 414? 414 seems like one of the better models that was made to me? Enjoy the new tractor!

Lift the rear and move the tire up and down like you are inspecting a ball joint. If you have considerable movement and oil is pouring out, it may be your bearing. That’s a pain. If not, it’s your seal. Like it’s already been articulated, the seal is an easy fix. Pulling the hub may be problematic. The correct hub puller is essential the cast iron hub will break. (Ask all of us how we know)

Nothing wrong with the dumpsites selling the scrap iron, but a dollar is a dollar! They could just have easily sold it to you! My guess....More about liability if the general public gets hurt while digging around in the piles.

Our county dump has the same rules with a big sign over the "steel pile" "NO METAL SCAVENGING" it's sad but I do believe the county sells the scrap iron to help offset operating costs.

Pardon their manners, Michi, they just drooling over that horse and wishin, They do have a point on value tho but that seat is orginal and looks pretty decent. 550 is not way out of line but yes have to factor in your cost to go get it. True the Techy is less than desired but still. Don't sweat the double pic ....any in my book is worth a double take!

I was shocked when it fired up on that old gas. I was just checking to make sure it turned over good after I replaced batter and cables and I forgot left the fuel turned on and I was like holly crap I love these machines. I will replace the fuel lines and take tank out to give it a good cleaning this winter.
