9 pointsYou know that saying "just when you thought you've seen it all" and the other one "you ain't seen the half of it" Well I think I've been witness to both........ Almost lost for words what he has. The Canadian holy grail. I was there for over 3 hours and saw just over half of them. There were another 40 - 50 in a shed near by I didn't get to. A super nice guy who admitted to collecting way more than 20 years and he has been selling on and off for about ten years. Has slowed down since having a stroke but still quite able. He knows his models inside and out. Now get this....... people around there know him well enough that when they go to auctions or sales they would buy the horse for him". Understandably, I found him to be a bit gun shy at first. He said he reluctantly sold a very collectable JD to a guy (for cheap) who really wanted to restore it with his son and so he thought that was good enough for him. One that had a brass gas tank. He later saw it being parted out on EBay. Said he knew because he had marked the tank with paint where there were pit holes that needed repair. I'll load the pics in a few batches Anyway........ I'll be back there with a shopping list and a look in the other shed at some point. Hope you enjoy......

8 pointsI am just wondering if you guys have days like this?I decided that I needed to mow the grass around the missus's garden. Before mounting the deck to the 416-8 I decided to freshen up the blades. No way, they were to far gone so I get another set and sharpen them.Grease the spindles, and mount the deck.Open the gate and start to mow.Get to close to the blueberry bushes and snag the bird netting locking up the middle spindle.Run the tractor back to the shop ,drop the deck and spend time cutting away the mess.Remount the deck and head to the garden.Cut the grass and then head to where I have been cutting wood to clean up there, hang the deck and the stick the tractor.Walk 600 feet up hill and get another WH to get the 416 free.Unstick the 416 and run the 520 back up to the house.Get on the 416 to get it back to base and noticed it wants to turn right. On the trip back to the house notice that the right front is flat.Demount the flat and see that the valve stem is missing and the tire is full of fix a flat.Clean the rim and grab a new valve.Mount a used tire and finish the day mowing around the wood shed.I'm tired and feel that nothing got done.

5 pointsThis is a good rationale for several Wheel Horse mowing tractors in the shed! At least, that is my story !

4 pointsI’m not a fan of bumper stickers but this one caught my eye at this years WH Show....I think it looks good on my black GMC with the tinted windows. Post up your truck/car/van/trailer stickers!!!

4 pointsMy wife doesn't always "get" me, but she surely cuts me a lot of slack. When I bought my first Wheel Horse, a 312-8, two months ago she just shrugged it off as a whim. When I located a nice C-160 Automatic four weeks later she started to question why I needed another. She even went with me to pick it up (secretly I think she wanted to make sure I brought home only one more WH). After talking to some friends and family I have come to find out that several of them admit to having Wheel Horses garden tractors over the years. They spoke very highly of them but, curiously, always out of earshot of their spouses. I even found out one uncle of mine had rebuilt two of his own Kohler engines and rebuilt several more Kohler engines for his neighbors over the years. I am pretty sure the work was always done late at night, in his shed, and I suspect it was done by the light of muted kerosene lanterns with cheap cigar smoke hanging in the air. A buddy of mine expressed to me that he has a bit of tractor envy after seeing me bring home a second Wheel Horse in 60 days. After he mentioned this to me I thought I had a problem but, bless his heart, he straightened me right out. According to him: Owning one Wheel Horse means you are just a recreational user. Owning two Wheel Horses means you have an appreciation for fine machinery. Owning three Wheel Horses means you have an attraction. Four, it's turned into an obsession. Five, it's pretty much a full blown addiction. and six, well you really need to join Red Square and begin your next post with: Hello, my name is ________________, and I have a Wheel Horse problem. He's also convinced that Rustolem Regal Red should be reclassified as a gateway drug. Have a great day and hope the weather holds out...!

4 pointsHoarding for sure but where would these machines be if not in his yard.At some point the original owners gave up on these things.I have seen these tractors in the weeds,in fact I bought two lost in the weeds.Maybe in a dumpster.I know one member got one out of a dumpster.I feel fairly confident that some here have enough WHs that someone would say they are hoarding but what harm are they doing? In my mind better that than the scrap yard.JMHO.

4 pointsWell, I retired yesterday. My official date will be in a few weeks after I burn up some vacation leave. I have a several furniture and cabinet repair projects in my shop that Im working on with my sons. It great to spend ship time with them. But, I’m hopefully through with them after Labor Day weekend. I have a pile of Tres-Suburban’ parts calling. Our large area tractor show is in Temple, Tx October 6th and I hope to have uno-tres done by them. Lots of retirement plans.....but a mid afternoon nap is calling! Im already working on plans to be at the Big Show next year!

4 pointsI have been asked why I need 12, my only answer was because I don't have 13. Now Im up to 15.
-
4 points19, 17 running. Still loving them and building more storage space! Notice the horse trailer in front for a size comparison. Sadly, my horsed only get one bay-the others already have been claimed by an antique VW and farm equipment.
-
4 pointsI've been up to 8, but back down to 4 at the moment.....space is the real issue...so I go into the garage, open a quart of 90wt oil, open a pint of Rust-O-Lium Regal Red, and give a good healthy spray of Val-Spar Linen Beige and sit back with a Rock & Rye. Heaven!!! With my back...the 857 is the Horse of choice to sit on. Some good music is also soothing.

4 pointsWell, she's finished, sort of. Here are the "after" pictures. I'm not going to restore or refurbish this Cub, but leave it as is for the time being. I just wanted to get the wiring correct, fix some things and return some functionality. I removed the deck and removed a bent blade and power washed the deck. I still have to buy blades and a belt, but that may have to wait. I will be going to Cub-arama next month and will look for some bargains for both of my Farmall Cubs.

3 pointsI'm not sure if this is local or not but I stopped by Ace to pick up implement red in the tall cans and they were two for seven dollars! They said the sale goes till the end of the month. That would be in the rustoleum colors.

3 pointsJust won another Commando 800 at the local auction, planning on using for parts. 502 656 857 Commando 800 x2 C-101 Charger 12 couple parts, single stage blower, snow plow, tiller, some old style decks.

3 pointsHe's at a tractor show looking for more! My problem is they come in pairs, then they come for free. Can't turn those away ...but dear we wouldn't turn away a homeless kid if he knocked on our door would we??? Got plenty of others for getting one by the missus! Lemme know you need help with that.

3 pointsLooks like there is a small spring on the latch but considered part of the latch. Garry

3 pointsI think it would fit an RJ or Suburban just dandy, I think that’s what @dells68 intended. Good to see there are a handful around, and still in use!
-
3 points@dells68 could u maybe send me a picture of the handle mechanism on yours. I think mine is missing a spring or something. I got it just cause I liked the size and figured it would be a nice little trailer to put behind the suburban. For the kids and the leaf raking details this fall.

3 pointsVery nice little trailers. They take up very little space and are very handy! I would be very careful and not overload the wire wheels though. Sorry @squonk, loving the little guy. Used it just yesterday!

3 pointsI know, right!! Looks like I will be able to grind the welds away and be able to fix the PTO. The also cut off the tab that holds it still, but I could fix that too. I guess I need to figure out if its fixable before I spend too much time on it.

3 pointsYou get props for staying in it that long! About the time I would have seen the flat with the wheel full of grass, I would have went to the house, had a beer or two and fixed it the next day!! Randy
-
3 pointsMy buy/sell ratio has changed over the 25 years that I have suffered from the dreaded WHA. The first 20 years, I would buy 3 and sell 2 / month. The last 5 years, I buy1 and sell 2 / month.

3 pointsHere what started years ago merely as a visual attraction to a cool looking old tractor resembling a miniature of a "real" tractor, has become a way of life. Just this last week with the mud slide and flood we had one once again proved to be an invaluable tool to help me out of a bad situation. Incredibly even the wife for the first time ever had kind words for a wheel horse, not to mention all the onlookers that simply gawked at it in amazement on what it could do.
-
3 pointsWhy did your list end at six? ? ? Lots of us have significantly more that that, heck I've got six 953s and several others too!
-
2 pointsYou might just need to pull the valve out of the bottom of the tank to clear anything that may be blocking the valve. You will need a new bushing when reinstalling the valve.

2 pointsIf the motor is free and you have good voltage to the starter, Yes I would say the starter has seen better days. It would be a good idea to replace the cables as well.
-
2 pointsCongratulations!! I retired two years ago and one of the hardest questions to answer is, what do you do every day? I just say it's like every day is a Saturday or vacation and I do whatever feels right. Love the freedom that comes with retiring!
-
2 pointsI coated the underside with Eastwoods ceramic engine paint...the AMC blue you see in this pict. Got two seasons out of this application, before my last cleaning revealed it needed to be done again. Looks like it did a pretty good job of slowing down the spindle decay.

2 pointsThe cast aluminum housings are highly prone to electrolysis, especially when you introduce wet grass and it's acids. I have yet to find a way to stop them from corroding into nothing, not even blasting them dead clean and using an aircraft etching primer and stainless steel paint has worked. One idea I've tossed around is an epoxy finish - that might seal them enough to stop the reaction. Spinning metal shaft mounted in a cast aluminum housing, along with a steel deck is a recipe for a problem, WH is not the only one with this issue either. Sarge

2 pointsCongratulations Jim!! I'm betting that it won't be long before you'll wonder how you ever found time for work.
