There was a little rain as Chris and I arrived Thursday afternoon. Cleared up and the rest of the weekend was fine. These photo's of our pitch. Chris in Charge. The ground where we usually have a working area, was like concrete. So we went to play in the potato patch. Not get many chips out of this lot, Chris thinks. Bottoms up. If you'd taken those silly shades off like I told you, this wouldn't have happened. How about some organ music. I wonder who these two tractors belong too?

While on Facebook yesterday a fellow redsquare member put out a wheelhorse that was on the market place. I pretty much ignored it because Jim was not home and I didnt know what time he was getting home and he has the truck. When he got home, I mentioned it but he did not seem to be interested so I left it there. Sooo...yesterday after driving 600 miles home from a car show in MI, Jim sees the same post on Facebook and was like "why didn't you tell me about this?" I was like "I did and you didn't seem interested" long story short he thought I said 1054, not 1045 and so he messaged the guy and the guy said if you have cash and can get here tonight, it is yours...bring help because it is heavy. So we put our little trailer on the truck and headed out. The trans is not locked up and the engine turns over, Jim believes that it would have started if the points are cleaned...not bad for a piece of "lawn art" that hasn't been run in 10+ years. It sat on a raised concrete slab, and it was rougher than the pictures showed. The guy said he originally picked it up in his minivan...that takes balls!!. The front and rear tires are SHOT and are not salvageable there are rust holes in the deck and the lights thatvare on the front are mismatched but it is all there and that is all that really matters...this one is getting restored!!

My kids ages 2 and 4 obviously have a love for these tractors like we all do. So I started drivers training with them a couple weeks ago started out in 1st and low gear low idle. They did pretty good so today we moved up to 1st and high gear low idle and i think this is a good pace for them to learn at i can comfortably walk beside them and help steer if needed, but they are getting good. It teaches them to focus, pay attention and beacuse we only use the loader tractor to take turns.

Older gentleman that I work on his Honda Silver Wing drops his old Wheel Horse off to have carb cleaned . Tells me he wants to down size. Wants to sell his Horse. I have no idea about the worth. It has a believe a 4 HP motor Don't know what year . What to you think it might be worth ? Thanks, Tim

Love these old signs. This might be my favorite prize from this auction.

I don’t have a hoist system so ramps it is. Lol Don't let him kid you with that hoist nonsense.... he just puts helium in the tires.

Well everyone. We've got it all home and unloaded and I've returned the truck. Now we have to go through a task that is going to be daunting to say the least. Two of the things that I won in the auction where 5 metal shelf units that were filled with parts. A few new. Mostly used. I'm not sure I could really begin to describe how much stuff was stashed on those shelves. Just a drop in the bucket here... At least 15 5 bolt hubs of varying types. A few were the old light duty Style. And then there were some heavy duty one set screw hubs and heavy-duty two set screw hubs. A couple of Choke cables and throttle cables that would have fit 60s or 70s tractors. At least 7 transmission case half gaskets gaskets. At least 7 shift boots. Steering lower fan gears. Different levers and pulleys and brackets. Steering upper shafts. At least seven or nine axles of different lengths and size... I could go on and on and on and on and on..... I went there today knowing that I was picking up four tractors for myself. I had intended to put two of them together, possibly using the other two as Parts machines or whatever. Turns out one of them was not quite what I was expecting but in a good way. It's a cute little custom build that apparently somebody was trying to put together as a down scale farm tractor or something along that line. I'll post some pictures and information about that sometime in the coming days or weeks. That's a neat little machine that a lot of you will get a kick out of. This was a very interesting and positive learning experience that my honey and I will not forget for a very very long time. It will likely take me most of the winter to get all this stuff organized and separated so I can sell some of it off. Thank you to the originating poster of this topic for bringing this auction to our attention.

Today i cut 1/2" off the old axle pin and used a 1" collar as a giude to grind the weld out, finished with a 1"grinding stone. Actually worked pretty well the pin is tight no slop. Pulled off the front wheels an pulled out the spindles.

Never even thought of that Jim. Maybe Dennis Kirk would have something I'm looking for. I had to tear apart 4 convection ovens today so they would fit through a doorway. I was thinking I needed a "Convection Oven Mafia T shirt!

I was thinkin those 4 inch spots off the front of a Harley. . The older ones even use the same 4411 bulbs as late model tractors?!?! Just throwin ideas out there fellas.

Depends upon the soil. but be best to plow it first. It will cut into a grass lawn but get ready for a rough ride. If it's clay underneath be a real rough ride ...and hard on the tiller. not the best attachment for sod busting. You could kill the grass with roundup first but you are still gonna have a rooty mess that will need to get raked out. Especially if the grass is well established.

Sure you want to sell any off that fine herd of 701's?!?!? Seriously I was thinking of a clone of some sorts? Surely there must be some sort of lookalike out there? The light bar would be a cinch to repro. I didn't know they (the originals) were made by Peterson Jason. I bet there ain't a guy here who has a trailer and doesn't have one of their lights on it! There was a thread a couple of days ago a guy picked up a tractor for $100 and there was a set on it! So they are still out there. I know Tom @Shynon has a nice collection of them. I saw a few banged up ones at the BS this year and they wanted your first born for them. Really stop by for a chat.... Marshfield has gotta be what? 15-20 min from Edgar?

As we all know the center digit of "0" was a pull start, "5" was electric start and "7" was electric start automatic transmission. We also know how thrifty the Ponds were and that "Special" tractors were created to use up left over parts from the previous model. That being said the "4" in 1045 means "we have these leftover round fenders and will make the 1045 until they are used up!"

AMC is teasing you ...he's probably hoarding them. Yes originals are pricey and that's if you can find them. I would search the usual sites for something close. Possibly a motorcycle aftermarket light?

If you don't find anything out of kilter with the checks you propose it may be unbalanced blades. The tip speed on the 48" blades is much higher than a 42" and balance is more critical.I would look in to that area.

Steering shaft bushing NLA so i opened up the inside of some old front wheel bushings. Front axle hole was washed out so i welded around the hole, then I'm going to refit the NOS pin i got off

I have tilled lots of lawn and what not, and not ever done anything to the ground before hand. But yes it depends on how hard your soil is. If it is really hard I would run thru it with a single tooth first, to break the hard layer I find it easiest when the soil is moist, not wet, not dry.

Attended the Yesteryear Power Club show this past Saturday in Clay City. Was my second year attending the show. It is not a large event but fun. This also is the third time taking Horses to a show for me. Was able to get Best Lawn Tractor award with my 701 that has sickle bar, HL-5 lights, tombstone weight, and trailer hooked up . First time winning an award with my tractors. Was very surprised as there were over 35 garden tractors. Many of the garden tractors there were restored and very nice looking. My ole 701 is all original except the hood which someone painted before me. Wheel Horse had the biggest turn out having over half the quantity of garden tractors that attended. This was also the second year straight that a Putnam County Antique Tractor Club member has won the award

They're hard to come by for sure. The originals are Peterson Manufacturing Co... same company that still makes lights today. PMCo 401 is what you're looking for. Another light, the U.S. Pioneer #400 look exactly the same too. Both were just utility lights, you can sometimes find them listed as fog lights or backup lights on hot rods and motorcycles or work lights on tractors in the 40s-60s. You can try placing a wanted ad in our classifieds... maybe someone will come off a pair for you. Otherwise you're just going to have to scout the good old ebay and pay up for them... for as little as they are, they're generally a higher dollar light if you can find them. I've seen them generally run 40-100 each depending on condition. Good luck.

The whole middle is open and I put boards underneath so you can use 2 by material and slide them front to back. So I can remove all or just put pieces under to use a jack. Randy

My engine vote would be a Yanmar diesel - keep an eye out in the semi truck boneyards for either a refrigeration unit or one of the pre-heating units off a heavy truck, they all use small diesel engines. Hydraulic pto unit would be the way to go - and a lot more forgiving. Sarge

My $200 1996 Wheel Horse 312-8 is not pretty but works like a charm and has very tight steering on the front end. Going to make a mowing tractor out of this one. Put some 23-10-50 x 12 tires on the back. Placed a new 8 inch wheel set with axle and spindles on the front (instead of the original 6 inch wheels, etc) The mice house in this motor tin was real thick! Mice ate through the coil wire so I changed that $33 dollars. Also the solenoid was bad and that was changed $15.88. This 1996 has the seat, clutch and brake safety switch set up. Brake and clutch pedals use same safety switch on the right side panel of the tractor. My friend Rodney Burger (Lawnman_56) connected a wire between the safety switch wires leads to make sure that tractor would start . We disconnected safety switches with the shunt wire and then started the Magnum. Very clean carburetor (cleanest bowl I ever saw) . Put air in gas line at fuel pump to gas tank to clean out the fine screen of debris ( dirt and debris must have blocked gas to the pumo) and gas started flowing ! Motor had very clean oil and althought this tractor is ugly on the outside -it is beautiful on the inside !

There are some nasty humans out there. This was the first online auction I participated in and really didn't have much of an idea what to expect. Between the sales tax and the buyer's premium the markup on these items is about 23%. I accounted for that in the bids that I made and was comfortable with the shut-off points that I had created. I have no idea what the overall reputation of proxibid is but I have to tell you... This Keenan company that actually put on the auction seems like wonderful people. They're very friendly and very very helpful.

Here is mine, ignore the yellow thing on there! Its 18" to 24" I think, I can measure tonight. I highly suggest you either winch it on there or I put the tractors in low and idle them up without me on and kill the ignition at the top of the ramp.

I just finished my double tub cart, this project took me 3 years on and off.I cut and welded 2 tub carts together. It was fun and glad to see it over, mostly for shows and pulling the kids around. Hope you like it

This is my tractor, yes it is very similar to a Pasquali, it is also made in Italy by Valpadana. Mainly used in Europe for small vineyards as it’s very maneuverable being articulated in the centre.

Thank you! This explains why I could never find pics of one with round headlights in the grille...it's not supposed to have them! Mine is more like the one with the underbelly mower, which I am guessing is the larger of the two engines...this thread has been very helpful..thanks again

Ouch.... I bid on over 50 items I think. Ended up taking 17. Definitely was a few things I wish I had pushed a little harder but maybe next time.

I like all the creative ideas but i have to keep one thing in mind this machine will be for more work then play, but i guess when you are using a tractor to work it kind of is like playing so there is a little bit of a grey area there but anyway my goal is simplicity, reliability, duribility. If i keep to that goal i think it will last a long time. I cant wait to see it pulling a wagon load of firewood and plowing snow

Catch one of the Harbor Freight 22hp Predators on sale and you'll never regret it. They are powerful and very stout! Only thing is they don't have thrust bearings on the crank. Not an issue if you don't need a PTO. If you do, you could always go the electric route. I out one in Emory's Christmas tractor and it is a beast.

One of my favorite pics from that “strip” was this one... because I love the way that the person on the upper right is clutching their pooch and looking like...”you garden tractor mafia—Stay away from my pooch!” Reminds me of @elcamino/wheelhorse Statement above!

Stopped by there today at the request of the auction company because I am a local. It was, to say the least, and extremely impressive collection that varied in Year from around 1960 or so all the way up to maybe 1995 ish? Most of the tractors are what I would call Works in progress. I picked up some of the smaller stuff. I ended up getting four tractors and two parts shelves full of stuff and some various other items. I'll get some pictures posted as I get them here at home. Should be tomorrow if everything goes right. FYI teaser. I have a box of bearings That I'm going to need some help identifying. There are a few big rollers in there with the number 3110. There are also a whole bunch of needle bearings with the number 3110. Two completely different bearings even though the number is the same so there must be some kind of a letter differentiation there.

Got the hood on and decided to put a longer nipple in the exhaust to move the stack a little farther away from the hood. I still need to paint the letters on the front of the hood and add the decals.

@Stepney Well after a month and a half we're finally going to get back to the cinnamon horse... At least a little. We got another chassis from a fellow Redsquare member. This one's waaayy less worn out. Trina let loose the garden hose at the "new" 1977 chassis we're going to use. More to come soon.....

Only differences I know of are the belt disengagement levers are different (above the cover plate, same once you get below the plate), breakerless coil on early versions, open nose on the 1969, some had hood hinges and earlier had the tabs in the rear that went under the dash hoising. Oh and there was that super rare limited edition, GT14 LXE that had the eaton 1100 transaxle but not sure how many of those that were made. I know of one.

I tried that. Kept trying to get a quiet deck for my 704. Didn't find one. Sold the 704 and found a deck! I retrofitted my 1267 to a modern deck but the engine is so loud my wife throws stuff at me when I mow close to the house.
