I was fortunate to spend a few days with son Mark and grandson Clayton. The fish and crabs cooperated.

Time to build another Custom Modifed. GT-14 with 20 HP Kohler twin, 1100 Eaton hydro rear end from 520-HC, seat pan, rear fenders & gas tank from D-160. I was going to put a 10HP diesel in this but changed my mind since I have this Kohler twin just sitting on bench needing a home. Still haven’t decided wether to stretch it and make a double wide or leave it be. Plenty of mental ambition, very little physical ambition.. lol Hoping this can be my winter project. Stay tuned!!

A keeper for life??? This one found me. I didn't have to buy it... Just restore it. My dad bought this 1962 Wheel Horse new when I was 6 years old. My dad sold it to a neighbor about 1980. I did not see it for 30 years after that until my Uncle found it in 2011. My Uncle got it free from the son of the guy who bought it from my dad and he gave it back to me for free. It was in really bad shape when I got it back. It took me nearly four years to completely restore to like new condition. The past three years now, I proudly display and ride it around at our local tractor shows. It is priceless to me. There is no insane amount of $ that I would sell it for. I guarantee, this tractor will be in my possession until the day I die.

I bought the beast from Bob. Several things absolutely amaze me about this. The incredible craftsmanship and thought that went into the machine first off. 2nd is how in heck could you do this in that Florida heat and with health conditions to boot? lastly, I’m amazed at some of the negative “behind my back” B/S I’m hearing because I bought “somebody else’s trophy”.. really?? same happened when I bough the Karl Stohry “Stretch”.. That was rotting away in somebody’s yard without so much as a $10 tarp over it.. I’d like to think I saved the poor thing.. (“The Stretch”) I hope to someday own a Robert Rock built tractor too.. I absolutely love these one of a kind, custom modified tractors. Unfortunatley, I’m not a fabricator. I’ve spent a small fortune breathing life back into the neglected pieces I’ve purchased and done my best to maintain and make minor improvements on these trophy’s. “The Beast” still needs work. Some of which I can do myself & some that I’ll have to farm out. but rest assured, it won’t sit out in the yard to rot like a few of these wonderful creations I’ve bought. If all that makes me the bad guy, then maybe I’m hanging with the wrong crowd.., final note... yes, I sold the trolley.. i had no way to transport it and I know it’s going to a good home where it will be well cared for and enjoyed for years to come..

It was a haul off at the dealership where I work and I couldn't pass it up. I found the 1276 for a hundred dollars and it runs like a champ too. I went to work on a lady's Lowe's mower and it was setting in the garage, she was going to give it to me but I couldn't sleep at night if I didn't give her something. Here are some pictures of it

You paid the man what he was asking for it. End of story. It took someone from up north to come down here and buy the thing. Doubt he would have ever sold it to anyone local. Very few people that I know of here that are into wheel horses. I am glad to see it go to a good home. You can’t save them all but at least you have some people trying to preserve what are left. I don’t think you are a bad guy. Wish I lived closer. Carry on👍

. To. You'll find this website to be incredibly loaded with knowledge and experience and information. You'll also find... Great friends. I've been on for a little over a year now and learned more than I could have believed possible. ALL horses are worth something to someone... Some in particular much much more than others. Your two amazing finds are definitely near the top of the list!!! I have a 74 B80. Very similar to your 73 8,4 speed. Absolutely love that tractor! These rigs are simple, repairable, and can be made to last forever. Thanks for sharing! Keep finding these deals and if you don't want or can't keep them... Advertising them for resale on Redsquare would certainly make you lots of friends here !!

The only seats I'm making now is for the 1054/953 and the LAWN RANGER AND 655,606,656,855,856,875,1055,1075 ,1056 . I'm trying to get the C160/gt14 seat back and bottom started but I'm waiting on a die to reproduce the wheelhorse design. This will take some time for me to get the lines and emblem pressed into the vinyl. But I hope to get it close to original. I'll post it as soon as I start making them. Any seat that has the formed vinyl or plastic is cheaper to buy a seat from tractor supply or northern tool.

I must have missed that post, glad I did because that is just plain wrong. I was happy to hear that "The Beast" was headed to a new home, Bob put a lot of talent and work into it and it needed a good home. I have been around the street rod hobby for a few decades and built and sold quite a few. I could never understood why some people were so negative toward folks who bought a ready to run vehicle that someone else wanted to sell. If it hadn't been for willing buyers I couldn't have built the next one. I for one applaud you for showing some love to these creations and look forward to meeting you.

I recently picked up a second wheel horse to go with my 1276. All it has on the side is 8 and under that it says 4 speed, I attached a picture (sorry for the potato quality) so you could see what I mean. I don't know much about it and I was wondering what years this tractor was made and if it was worth anything.

You done good...the HL-5 light kit alone is worth more than that.

I just got lucky a few times. I just like old tractors and occasionally I'm in the right place at the right time. With any luck they aren't leaving my stable.
  16. 4 points
Thank you, I would have never found that. It has a new rd deck and some odds and ends on it. It runs like a champ and it did a pretty good job of mowing the grass. I picked it up for 50 bucks and added to the stable

I just got some new ag tires for my 414 eight and my goodness! These are as pretty as a newborn speckled pup!! It's amazing what a new set of tires will do for the looks of an old tractor.

Pretty good shape with 521 on the clock. Also came with a nice later model 48” deck. The only real issue is where the seat mount bolts under the shift lever plate. Easy fix with some 11/2” angle. Decent deal for $550 in my part of the world.

If your machine has the cable sleeve you can push a new cable into it.The cable is available from a vendor here and has a round button squeezed on the end so that it can pushed through the tube.If machine has some age to it run a coat hanger wire through first. If dirt comes out then flush the tube with water from a squeeze bottle.Mud daubers like to clog up the tube for their nests. You will also need a rock shaft to attach the cable to at the rear of the machine. This is also available from the mentioned vendor,Wheel Horse Parts and more.

Got the carb and fuel pump cleaned up and back on, the wiring and cables installed and fired this thing up and took it for a spin around the yard. I also put a taller steering wheel on to see how it feels. I'm hoping to get the hood painted in the next week or so and finish this build.

@Stepney Well after a month and a half we're finally going to get back to the cinnamon horse... At least a little. We got another chassis from a fellow Redsquare member. This one's waaayy less worn out. Trina let loose the garden hose at the "new" 1977 chassis we're going to use. More to come soon.....

You have a 1973 eight HP . They were referred to as "No Names" because years '72 and and prior and after '73 were named but in '73 they just showed the engine horse power and transmission type.

I feel like I have really lucked out in the tractors I have found. 1277 with a loader, c-120, 401 suburban and a GT-14. Of those, I think the 1277 is my favorite right now and I wanna pull the loader off and restore it. Man those long hood lines and woodgrain decals really do it for me. Randy

I bought it for $425. I need to clean up the engine and trans, change oil hydraulic fluid although they were clean and full. I did run and mow with it for a 1/2 hr and the hr meter was working so the 550hr should be accurate. See the pic below, I did get the deck spindle cover but am missing the discharge shut. Deck has new blades and one new spindle. In the up coming weeks I will clean it removing all the tins for engine and fenders for a hydro cleaning and adj the motion lever and fix the brake. Best part on this one is I only drove 5 miles round trip to get it. Thank you you all for your input it made the buying decision much easier.

You may be able to gently drive a TORX bit into the hex hole and get it to come out. May ruin the plug or bit but better than having to drill it out.

Does it count if I bought a brand new 520H 20 years ago and don't ever see myself getting rid of it in my lifetime running or not 🤔, Jeff.

Good choice Dino...you can also put bug eye headlights on them, groovy pin striping, cut the hood for oversized muffs,, trailer style hubs for a FEL, incorrect steering wheels, big a$$ reflectors so you don't get clobbered on Liberty St. AND a HY-2 for running the FEL!

Got the engine mounted today as well as the belt guard, right foot rest and a few of Terry's decals. Gonna go thru the carb and fuel pump next then work on wiring, plumbing and painting the hood. Gettin close. I bought a stack from Jim Kemp a while back, sorta want to hear what this thing sounds like.

@Machineguy, @PeacemakerJack, @Achto, @elcamino/wheelhorse, @dells68, Here goes I mentioned back in the spring my parents' driveway washed out from flooding, of course I have the 2 compacts with FEL but nothing to haul anything on,(FIL has a C65 dump but not road worthy nor will my tractor loaders reach over the bed sides) so I found myself a fairly decent (family owned since new) 1979 Chevy c30 Scottsdale with 11' pto scissors lift low side flat dump ,a hidden goose neck hitch as well, and get this 454 Big Block power and granny 4spd trans all original except for the paint and a few new body panels, here's a couple pics, Jeff.

Well we know it was green when it came from the factory. You may have to tie up some wire and hoses.

Those are white perch and IMO the perch family is the best eating fish. The salt water white perch and the fresh water yellow perch and walleyed pike are all excellent table fare. The whites are a tightly schooled fish that can be difficult to locate, but when you get on a school, the action can be furious. With the warm water temps, they tend to lay in the deeper holes making them easier to locate. We probably caught 150 in about 2 hours keeping 72 of the larger fish.

That plow frame is for a short frame but may be fine for the "Son of Mad Max" as you won't be wanting to angle it.

My very limited experience is that needle bearings seem to be the weak points. Seal failure happens first. Fluid leaks out and dirt gets in. Not a good combination. Water incursion is almost always at the shift boot. They do not last forever and most are rotted out after 15-20 years

Now that makes sense, sometime this year I put a different gas cap on it because the old one wasn't screwing down all the way. Go figure. Will change cap and mow this weekend and see what happens Thanks

When you install the new plug, wrap it with Teflon tape thread sealer. Also had the same problem as you.I usually buy new plug that has outside square head.Either brass or steel.Makes it easier to remove next time.

Like many others, I have the sleeves from various belts stapled too the wall in the shop so I can be sure to get the right belt. Also, like many of our older members I can generally remember stuff like that, but not always. Garry seems to have confirmed the 35".

So, looking back... it was the heat we won, we were getting ready for the feature. Sorry ‘bout that, I guess I was excited that the car made the show! We lead the entire feature by about half a lap, and in the last corner of the last lap, they threw the yellow, we overheated and blew the head gasket again. The car didn’t have the power to finish the race under power, but he coasted over the finish line and we didn’t end up in any victory lane again. It was Hall of Fame night, so they had Bob Senneker come out with his Camaro and a ‘32 Ford.

Great work! My grandfather was a furniture maker and finish carpenter. He made a lot of custom trim and mill work. I’ve got an old plane of his he loved that you might find interesting. It’s a Stanley from the late 1800’s my Pops called it a coffin and boat makers plane. You can adjust the beam to cut around radiuses. When he’d join custom trim that cased curved windows and doors he use it for that a lot making fine adjustments before sanding. It’s got the original japaning and finish just as it was last he used it. I’ll keep it and appreciate it till I’m gone.

After taking a couple of weeks off I got back to work on the Ranger this week. I've got the block ready to paint, just waiting on a new pan gasket to get here. All the engine tins are painted so I hope to get the engine mounted this week. Once that's done I need to get started on the hood, wiring and final assembly.
