13 pointsI've told my wife; I quit drinking, I quit smoking, I quit cursing, YOU CAN ONLY ASK SO MUCH OF ANYONE!!!!!!
-
12 pointsI’m not particularly a hoarder but with these little tractors I feel compelled to save everything I can for them and about them! This stuff is fun for me and I’m glad I’ve joined a forum with people who are just as crazy as me! Lol

10 pointsThe last one I bought, my wife is calling the divorce tractor, cause one more and she out. Now I just gotta decide how bad I want the next one!!

8 pointsBeen in my shop for 3 months, tore down and painted and a few repairs, it has 3-point, rear PTO and twin rear brakes. Still a few things to finish. Got a new seat coming, and have to rub the paint out. The fender and hood were pitted bad, so it don't look show, but from the neighbors yard it look great. The gas tank is made out of a ditch witch oil tank. It was free. I used the old decals on the hood.
-
8 pointsFinally got her back together. Fresh rebuilt K-341, a few goodies from the big show, complete rewire, added an hour meter to track the 'new' motor. Maiden voyage was a complete success. A couple minor tweaks on the carb adjustment and everything is working great. I'd say she's good for another 42 years of work.
-
8 pointsI've done that more than once and every time I do, I step back, shake my head, smile and say you idiot lol

7 pointsWell, this poor Ole thing showed up at our club's annual show and was screaming for someone to rescue it. Upon closer inspection it has really nice tires and a rust free deck on it. I've been wanting a good 42" deck for my 312 and it couldn't have worked out better. Poor tractor has bird turd welds on the dash and hood, a replacement Briggs motor, terrible seat, etc... Emory wants the tractor after I steal the wheels, tires, and deck. I've got more wheels and tires I'll give him. I probably over paid at $175, but even the 8 speed tranny will pull great in all gears without popping out. Another one rescued.

7 pointsI always wondered how the rear axle vented on my 520's then it dawned on me. It is through the dipstick. If you have a 520 or any other Wheel horse with the Eaton 1100 transmission and are having trouble with fluid puking out of weird places or blowing out seals then check this. I found one of mine quite restricted this morning. To check, simply pull the dipstick then check the end of the curl on the handle. You can see where it has been flattened a bit but there are two small openings. Clean these out then blow through it. It will blow through quite easily when it has been properly cleaned. Cleat

7 pointsAs Achto said, the answer is YES, but it can get worse. While the red ones are the strongest addiction, over time it then spills into to wanting them in all colors!
-
7 pointsThe answer to the title of your post is - YES ! Glad to have you in our support group.

7 pointsI got me a nice running Tecky powered 656 at the big show because it “needed carb work”.... or a splash of fuel in the tank. I dragged it to the truck with the previous owner’s help, fueled it up, pulled the rope and vroom I got a steal of a deal! Good runner for a non-runner price!
-
7 pointsalright broher we'll see you there i guess my son will be with me on this tour

6 pointsI found a 520 H for $350. THe guy had dumped $800 into the engine last year at a shop, then tried to change the muffler himself and sheared off the bolts. Despite years of great service, he felt he couldn’t put any more money into it. He was selling it with a REALLY nice deck and snow blower, but I only wanted the tractor. Any one wants a nice deck, no rot at all, eyeball the Vermont CL next week. Anyway, I think I just need to drill out the bolts and helicoil the holes to attach a new muffler. Any suggestions are welcome. Pictures later. It’s definitely used, bits of rust, but he says its fully functional. We’ll see. Be a good score if it is.

6 pointsWe've got this trailer just about stuffed Seven Ways to Sunday and 37,000 tie straps holding everything down. Isn't it funny how a tractor that is 40 in wide and 66 in long can take up so much space on a 5 by 8 foot trailer? Okay, maybe there's a few other things in there. @TravelinJavelin... See you there.
-
6 points@wheelhorseman...thanks so much Lowell. https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/steering.html Sure is nice... ..to finally have some nice, tight steering again.

6 pointsLast year at JC PDII, there were so many tractor malfunctions that we were “looking for a snake under every rock”. Caleb was plowing on the CC100, traditionally a tough and reliable plow tractor. Anyway, I was watching him struggle on a pass and he motioned to me. I got there and the tractor was coughing and sputtering. I got on and was trying a variety of things with little to no success—then it died. We couldn’t get it started, wouldn’t even fire! “What’s broken now?!?!” As I was looking around on the engine for about five minutes when it dawned on me to check the tank—OUT OF FUEL!

5 pointsThe battery on my C-81 was past its sell by date. Wouldn't hold its charge for long. So today I went and bought a new one. Back home and fitted it on. Now the C-81, if left idle for a while, takes a bit of winding up before it will fire up. 15 - 20 seconds or there abouts. New battery spun the engine over like a good 'un. Wouldn't fire though. I have a little gadget you fit to the plug and the lead to it and you can see the spark through it's plastic body. Turn the key and a good spark showed. OK! I'll take the air filter off and squirt petrol in the carb. The engine fired and then stopped. Try again and the same. Decided to take the float bowl off and see if any dirt in there. Nope! Clean as a whistle. Put the bowl back on only it didn't want too. The seal kept dropping out. Off with the carb and bowl back on it. Then carb back on the engine. The short fuel line from pump to carb looked a bit iffy, so I fitted a new one. Before I fitted it to the carb, I spun the engine to see if fuel was getting through the pump. Nothing! Not a drop. Then the penny dropped. Try TURNING THE FUEL ON you Wazack.

5 pointsBought a rough 312-8 from 1996 to cleanupand use as General tractor for $200 on Tuesday. Bought the front end end of a B 100 and 10 HP Kohler and helped my neighbor use the automatic transmission on the B 100 as a replacement for his tractor. Put out a new knob on the front of s Wheel Horse mule drive.
-
5 pointsJust as I suspected!!! Other color tractors have shown up already. There’s no hope for me I guess. It is amusing watching my modern green and yellow machine tremble and cry when I start my 9020 Powermax. I may need an intervention? Lol
-
5 pointsGentleman, thanks for all the birthday wishes. The day was busy, still moving "stuff". On a good note, we listed our old home Tuesday, it sold the first day. So now theres more to do. But the day was enjoyable, long as your doing things with family, its our most important thing, wife, kids. Thanks again, you wheel horse folks are my family to. Glenn

5 pointsDid some prep work and painting tonight. The paint is still wet in the pictures, but it looks like it might be a little rough still. I might have to re sand the top layer of paint. Definitely looks better already though!
-
5 pointsSo, your nose is gonna be longer next time I see you? Me, never done that - especially not at the big show😂.

4 pointsRecently I bought two Lawn Rangers, one from a guy that had it in pieces (he was going to restore it, but got bored with it). This one didn't run, and it is almost running good now. The second I purchased from @buckrancher. This one was all together and running great. Huge thanks! So having two tractors that use the same parts, it should be really easy to do some restoration work on both, while always having one running, and usable! Here are some pictures before any work other than engine work, and some assembly work.

4 pointsShe told me “If you go get a zero turn mower and keep 3 acres mowed for me, you can have as many Wheel Horse tractors as you want.” I had had the last words of the argument though... I sure did. “Yes Dear.”
-
4 pointsI'm one of the lucky ones, the little lady supports the addiction. She knows I could do a lot worse things with my time. Not only does she like these tractors, she buys things for them, she goes to the big show, I think she may even want one for herself.
-
4 pointsI tried to quit buying Horses. Too hard so I quit trying.

4 pointsI tried to stop buying wheel Horses, was the worst day of my life.

4 pointsI am with you Stormin! These little gems can be a lot lighter on the billfold or bank account! Biggest question I hear here is "what are you going to do with it "! In the short time that I've owned these red gems I have felt this certain draw towards them. I grew up on a farm in the Midwest and the farmers coming back out in me! 😳

4 pointsGot the house wrapped up with Tyvek before our much needed rain came, now Amazon Santa came! Got a urinal on Prime Day, and dig the vanity out of storage.
-
4 pointsYou always have to balance need, cost and space. For me I went with a 10" Clausing. I have about $1700 in it and so far its been big enough for everything I want it for. Would I like bigger, sure, but where will I put it. I think 9 to 12" swing is just about right for a home shop.
-
4 pointsI really do like how solid everything is on these little machines. When you get on a stamped sheet metal riding mower it just feels like everything is gonna break if you look at it to hard. One Grandad had an old B80 WH which was his finishing mower for around the house and the other Grandad had a MF12. Ive got a soft spot for both of these. The stuff made now is junk. I found the MF12 and my WH 700 will do until I can locate a good B80

4 pointsOK now this here's the "I'm still not under standing then BUT" department about the 1964 model 1045. From the information I got from Wheel Horse years ago about the model 1045 that it was only produced for 3 months in 1964, August, September and October BUT I remember seeing a photo of a 1045 manual with a and I think it was a April or May 1964 date hand written on the front. So I'm not sure BUT I do know the 1045 was not a common Wheel Horse model and the one pictured here in this thread is a extremely nice example with the original front tires. The seat pan should be the flat square type with cover. The 1045 is one of the few short framed Wheel Horses that used the larger block Kohler engine, the other is the 1075 made in 1965. These Kohler's used a smaller oil pan with special connecting rods that had a dipper scoop for oil instead of the long tail type dipper. I had used my 1045 in a few stock tractor pulls and I would leave the mower deck on ........ with the front wheels up in the air you could see the blades on the deck ..... I did this to show the folks "Yes it's stock and I cut my lawn with it" ! Wild Bill in Richmond, VA

3 pointsShe has put up with me for 30 years, she wants me to have another tractor! She just doesn't know it yet!! Randy
-
3 pointsNeed pics! Congrats on the steal, if there is enough stud flush or sticking out of the block, give it a good whack with a punch to shock the threads, then weld a nut to whatever is left of the stud with as much hot penetration as you can. Let it cool, shoot some wd40 or oil of your choice on then try to back it out. Might be quicker and cleaner that drilling it out...
-
3 pointsHere's my version of "I've told my wife": "I married you after 58 years of bachelorhood, by choice. You are my mate in life until one of us kicks the bucket. I quit smoking for my own personal health reasons. I have significantly decreased my public and domestic swearing. I have only owned one (1) Wheel Horse tractor for 39 years. It will be 50 years old next year. I use it to mow every year (because of my mechanical & maintenance engagement with said machine, I have managed to keep it running all these years). I will not guarantee I will not purchase another, but if I do that, the purchase will be well thought out, and financed by my retirement funds. I will continue to imbibe responsibly, as I desire." "Questions?"
-
3 pointsThanks! I saw that outline as well but was hesitant to go scraping at it since it was covered in paint to reveal the number.. BUT, I went ahead and cleaned it off and got my #! 22214
-
3 pointsI have a ‘sunshade’, works great under trees, even good in the rain. Sorry for the mug! Didn’t even know there was such a thing, course in the uk we rarely get to see the sun.
-
3 pointsI heard about a guy that ran out of gas while mowing with his 312H. He walked to the barn, got his gas can, and filled the tank. The tractor would not even try to turn over when he attempted to start it. I heard he spent about an hour checking battery voltage, wiring, and safety switches. The story is, when he ran out of gas, he never disengaged the PTO.

2 pointsWhat no 4 cylinder Renault engines after just getting hooked by an Onan? Just think 2 of them crankshaft to crankshaft a straight 8 Horse ...
-
2 pointsIf you heat it there is an old trick that farmers all used that works well. While it is hot apply paraffin or other wax and it will flow down into the rust providing lubrication. In the event the worst were to happen and the drive unit needed to be replaced you can use an Electro or Charger hydro unit and make one minor change to make it work for the GT-14. I have done this and it is documented here.
-
2 pointsWell, that is MUCH better than having it stuck in the OFF position. It allows you to use the tractor in whatever useful manner you choose. The only really problem, given the weight and bulk of the machine @ 840#, is, it will have to be running under engine power to be able to move it around. Out of season, you might consider some auto wheel dollies to jack it up on to add flexibility to placement on a hard surface (concrete) floor......and even to work on it. Just a suggestion..... https://www.harborfreight.com/2-piece-vehicle-dollies-67511.html Good looking machine! Regards, Steve

2 pointsDo it right Randy and you won’t regret it. The mighty GT was the flagship of the line during its tenure and is certainly worth the time invested to build it right whether an all out custom like Aldon’s “Grey Ghost” or Richie’s “Skittles” or a stock restore like many that we see on this site. I’ll be watching with interest as someday I’ll be restoring “Blackbeard” with my son Zach!... Good luck in your build!
