Cant reach the controls yet, but we're working on it!

So I had a thread on this machine I picked up several months ago along with 2 others. I took it apart, cleaned and wet sanded everything then clear coated it using duplicolor crystal clear. I like how it came out. Vinsrj rebuilt the motor that was locked tight. You can check out his you tube video on the build. I rebuilt the tranny and love the end result. IMG_6210.MOV.crdownload

Proud of Caleb! He has been serious about working on Comanche since we got him home. “Uncle Jim” gave Caleb a new key switch for it since the old one had a broken return spring. Thank you very much @WHX20! Here’s the way it looked at Jim’s with the cultivator that Caleb got from @AMC RULES . At the show Caleb found a tractor style Nelson muffler and purchased it. He couldn’t wait to install it. It was relatively easy to get the old muffler off but nearly impossible to get the short nipple out of the block. I did a search on here and there was a helpful post from our buddy @rmaynard in which he said to cut it down, collapse the remainder with a cold chisel and remove. It worked great! Thanks Bob. Then Caleb took one of my brass gun cleaning brushes and scoured out the threads real well. Once he felt that it was good and clean... He did a test fit on the new pipe. All looked good and so we ran it into the head. Spent a little time installing the new key switch! Then positioned the new muffler and Caleb hooked up the battery and took it for a spin! Amazing what a muffler and a set of AG’s will do! Then Caleb started working on a spare set of 8” rims, sanding and cleaning and finally painting them. We will have the old Goodyear’s that are on the tractor now, switched to those rims once we have done the proper aging to match the front as closely as possible for Patina. Where’s my man @Shynon? He loves patina, I can’t wait for him to see this ole dude! It was a good day of shop time with my kiddos.

Got the 857 assembled this morning, the choke cable is frozen and is getting a WD40 treatment and I need to sort the wiring out... I should have taken pics of what wiring went where when I was pulling it apart, but I was in a hurry to get it in the truck! I'm undecided weather I should trim the floor board to fit the PTO controls, or just remove them. Most likely there won't be any mowing or tilling with it, just pulling stuff with the hitch. I tried some WD40 and 180 grit on the hood to see if it would clean up and it seemed to work pretty good! I cleaned up the mess with SD-20 degreaser and some blue rags. The fuel pump is missing the fittings and lines so I'll have to IV-drip some fuel into the carb when it's time to test start it... then I'll see what I can wrangle up to get the pump working like it should.

I picked up a nice mower deck with the mule drive and belts for my 520-H from WHX20 Jim. Easy mount in 10 minutes and ready to roll. Now I have three really nice WH mowing workers to play with. ... And a Wheel Horse racing banner from Vinylguy Terry... Awesome!

Came home with a bunch of memories, a pack of trading cards, some decals, a wet tent, muddy shoes, and another 701. Despite the bad weather, it was another great show.

Just spent a couple minutes Chasing the hub threads out with a tap and installing the lug bolt kits I got from @rmaynard. Thanks Bob!

Ok, I know I'm late, but what's new! Wife, Emory, and I at the orchards just up the road from the show and Emory and I at Devil's Den in Gettysburg

I cleaned out the exhaust port threads and Trina changed a few more things from white to red. Then she disassembled the steering tower which was the last thing to come apart for repainting. In the pic you'll see a can of B'laster small engine tune up. I was told in another thread to use it to break up the carbon in the engine. Go. Buy. Some. It worked great!!

I appreciate the accolades for grabbbing the 854 but it was really no big deal. It literally added only 30 minutes to my trip. As a bonus there was a great spot for breakfast on the side road to get the 854! The look on Caleb’s face and the mega-bear hug he gave me when we met up in the shows parking lot were all the payment I needed!!

This thread will show a "worker" restoration on my C195 and my son's 416-8. Story on the 416-8 is that it was mine over 10 years ago until I sold it. My son wanted a restoration project and this one was offered by to me by the second owner since I sold it. He is a member here on Redsquare. The first pic is my son on it when he was about 2. All the pictures I have for now. All sheet metal was taken off and sand blasted. I just finished priming it.

Or, the bling I picked up at the show:-) I did not get crazy but I am thankful to the vendors and the collector club folks that help make the show a success. I always find the prices to be just a bit better than I would elsewhere, so I tend to splurge a bit:-) Special acknowledgments to the club( love the t-shirt and hats), @fast88pu wife’s key chains, @wheelhorseman /Lowell’s floor mats(awesome) and @Vinylguy /Terry’s signs and decals. I love my 1 of a kind sign and Decals which will eventually end up on my beast. Nor sure which vendor I snagged the 551 roller from but I’m pretty sure I’ll have it running in a week or less if I get some help from the Granddaughters:-) My thanks to all!

From one 854 owner to another, nice looking tractor . You're doing a fine job cleaning and fixing it up adding some touches to make it yours. Keep it up, these are fun tractors.

RMaynard is right NEVER EVER have a little one on a machine with the mower running that is a recipe for disaster. Accidents that maim or kill kids can happen before you can react. Be safe so they can be around to take over for us

It's all C-101 donor parts. I told her that some day when she is big enough to reach the far pedal, we'll take off the pusher setup but probably leave the hole in the floorboard - and some day far away when she has her own little kid wanting to drive her tractor, then she can put it back on for him/her. She was all smiles, plus it keeps her foot away from that recoil cup for now.

Picked up my new l-165 lawn ranger yesterday. The guy I bought it from was going to do a restoration, but got the tractor apart and lost interest. When I picked it up, the motor was off, as well as all the cover pieces, fender and hood. Today I spent the day degreasing and cleaning the frame and other parts. I got everything back on, except the hood, so I can work on the engine. The engine had no exhaust, so I picked up a muffler and some pipe to use. I changed the engine and transmission oil, spark plug, and air filter. Right now the engine isn't getting spark or fuel, so tomorrow I will look at the magneto, and the carb. Hopefully tomorrow I will have the engine running, and when the drive belt I ordered arrives Friday, hopefully I can take it for a spin! I've attached photos (hopefully in order) of before and after I did some cleaning, and after putting some things back together. The seat is just sitting on there, I'm not sure if it the right seat or not. How are they supposed to attach?

This week I've had a chance to finish up the foot rests, patch the hole in the hood around the gas tank filler neck and rework the Tecky gas tank bracket to fit the Kohler and I've drilled the seat pan so I can either bolt the seat directly to it or use the flip up bracket with the seat springs.

And another nice little repair featuring a part from above-mentioned Mr Bob.

The original item was a plain J-8. Don't think resistor plugs were big 50 years ago. I use the non resistor plugs if it interferes with somebody driving by GPS or Cell phone I don't care...stay off my road

They're awesome. I'm happy and proud! If it wasn't for their desire to get out and play too, I probably wouldn't be so eager to get the tractors going so soon! I've only had a bathroom stripped down to studs since about January that I should be working on...

Jada on "Putt Putt", Rylee on "Screamin' Jimmy". That 8 horse Kohler sings them rpm's just like an old Detroit Diesel. I tuned the governors the same on both engines, but the Commando just plain runs. I might tune it down one way or another so we don't throw a rod.

Finished up the dual pedal yesterday, now Rylee can start/shift without having to slide totally off the seat!

The bling really makes the hauler cozier:-)

Yeah, no fun here! Nope not a bit! On a whim, I tried cleaning up the head on a flat plate with some 400 grit sand paper, then I put a film of copper RTV on each side of the head gasket and set it all back together with the bolts in place, but not tight... for about an hour. Then I torqued it and fired it up. Runs great, no head gasket leak and the smoke is starting to clean up after her running around the field for a while. Best part - really the best is that both the girls told me they love me at random today, playing on the tractors! Gotta love a girl who loves Wheel Horse Right now we're working on that shorter pedal and Rylee is painting the Wheel Horse logos on her front tires.

So first things first, I'd like to give a big thank you to @stevasaurus for making his transmission video a few years back. My honey and I both get a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment about being able to fix our own stuff. Everything. Tractor. House. Cars. Read a bit online. Watch a video or two. Get to work. Steve's video made it possible for me to have a better understanding of what I was up against to get into this transmission and, I hope, get it mostly buttoned back up. Here's a few other things that were done tonight. This is in Trina's words her Wheelhorse "Mobile". And here's a couple of pictures with piles and piles of red Parts waiting to be thrown together. The weather forecast for this weekend is supposed to be smoking hot. At least for Maine. At or above 90° for 2 or 3 days in a row. Nice cool cellar workshop is a good place to begin assembly of this tractor.

It all started when I went to one of @WHX20's plow days and took one of his round hoods out for a spin,and thats when I was hooked.Then when we saw that 854 for sale I really wanted to have it Then dad said it was in NJ my heart sank to my feetbut dad said he'd look into shiping it and getting the money for it.So that gave me some hope of getting it Well then @WHX20 offered to ttake us to the BS in PA since his wife didn't want to go this year and @ACHTO didn't want to go at first.Since April we had wanted someone to take that 854 to the show two days before we left for the show @Sparky decided to take it to the show for me.Saved us time and money,thank you @Sparky!!!! He delivered it and it was great we only had to do a little clean up on the outside with gas,put a little bit of oil and gas in it and put a new battery in it and it started right up

We just picked up this little beauty. It runs and cuts. My sons and I plan to bring it to the 2019 big show with nice red paint on it.

That is indeed a very nice outcome. I commend you for going through all the trouble to save what is actually that tractors "personality" which took so many years to create. With all due respect to "restorers" (everything has its place) , and all the work they put into their machines,I am not a fan of a fully restored tractor. Next to each other they all basically look the same. One also is reluctant to do anything with them in fear of scratching them or worse. Now ,you have there is a machine that shows its age, has tons of character that only father time can give it, and you can let your kids or grand kids enjoy it without getting a heart attack. Given the option to purchase one fully restored as opposed to that one, for the same amount of money my choice is clear. WELL DONE SIR.

I agree with that... I have the weeds to water. But my wife really wants her bath tub... and filling it with pillows and an electric blanket in the middle of the living room only lasts so long before she actually wants it in a bathroom. Who'da thunk?

This event is always held Friday night after the ice cream social, now since it was kinda raining having the cruise night was unsure by me BUT many kids and adults asked for the music sooooooo lets have fun ! Now it did take a while for my butt to dry off but I would do it again . It was hard to imagine how many people jumped on their tractors for a cruise. Steve with his 420 SLE really shows how bad folks wanna have fun ........ now I'm thinkin' the umbrella was only used to keep his cigar lit . Thanks for the video . Wild Bill in Richmond VA

Just imagine what we would have done if @Coulter Caleb would’ve been over there instead of sitting on a log dreaming about his soon to arrive 854... 9:41am 9:51am 9:56am 10:06am! Dan’s already looking for another horse to strip!!!
