Well I went to get a Speedex and came home with a lot more LOL. I got a all original radio that works, three headlight covers brand new, two 654 hoods, a light kit and lights work, a raider 12 8 speed for my dad with 2 deck and a snowblower and parts snowblower. Also a 1955 2hp Lauson, Swisher ride king with 6hp tecumseh and the 1966 speedex s18 with original wheel weights/snow plow/ cultivator and molboard plow. I will get some more pics up when I get everything in order and put them in there proper topic areas. 20180603_160931.3gp

As noted in longer What I’ve done to tractor thread, my Restomod tractor aka Elijah took a pounding this past weekend while en route to CT meet and greet. Bent the weak metal cross piece at front of frame and scuffed the paint. I’ve been wanting to weld in a stronger front piece and have been procrastinating as removing that GT14 nose/grille is a royal pita. So necessity has driven me to address my procrastination. Got it torn down and new piece welded in place and painted. Now I need to sand the nose and repaint/reassemble.

Added a volt meter. Also when you can’t find a good seat adjuster plate, you just fix the one you have.

Hey all, I’m a newbie here. Just wanted to share that when I brought home my 86 310-8 my 4-year old also caught the Wheel Horse fever. He had a JD electric ride-on and asked me to make it a Wheel Horse. How could I resist that request. So some cans of IH red, a few decals, and some fun time together in the garage he has a Wheel Horse “like daddy’s”. It doesn’t look like a 310 but he loves it just the same!

You guys are going to make me cry. When I started this thread, I was not looking for all of this. I was expecting the usual 11,000 posts of Happy Birthday and Nice Tractor posts. yady, yady, yady.. All of you guys don't know how much you all mean to me...you guys are keeping me young. I am humbled and I thank you all.

I’ve only talked to you via chat box and skype when you helped Dad rebuild that transmission over the airwaves. Hope to shake your hand in a couple of weeks. This forum and many on here is what keeps me going. Thanks for all you do Steve. You are just one important part of the red square family.

6-4-1924 Cecil Elwood Pond was born Cecil Pond was an American businessman, inventor, and entrepreneur. He was the founder of Wheel Horse Products Co. Inc., and was the primary inventor of the modern American Garden Tractor and riding mower. Pond was born in South Bend, Indiana, to Elmer and Ann Marie Pond. He graduated from South Bend's former Washington-Clay High School, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1946, Pond returned to South Bend and in June of that year, married Betty Alber Pond. Mr. & Ms. Pond were the parents of three children: son Gary Pond, and two daughters, Linda and Constance. 1946 saw the beginnings of Pond's manufacturing future. Pond joined his father Elmer, who at the time was building two-wheel lawn tractors (which the operator would walk behind) from angle iron, surplus motorcycle and automotive parts in his garage. At first, the Ponds' company was simply called Pond Tractor Company; however, they discovered another family member owned a similarly-named company. "Wheel Horse" was then chosen, and the name stayed with the company even after its acquisition by Toro. In the late forties, military veterans returning from World War II began moving to the vast new suburbs then transforming the American landscape. Their suburban homes had larger lots that demanded more attention—and the Ponds' riding mower found many ready buyers as a result. In 1954, Pond introduced his first 4-wheel lawn tractor, an event which altered substantially the lawn care manufacturing business. By 1957, his Wheel Horse Products Company recorded sales over $1 million (US$8,976,763 in 2018 dollars.) for the first time. Just two years later, the company's sales more than doubled, to $4.5 million (US$36,529,110 in 2016 dollars). In 1975, Pond sold Wheel Horse Products to American Motors Corporation. At the time of the sale, Pond oversaw over 500 workers at his plant and over 3,000 dealers were selling the brand. Cecil Pond passed away December 30, 2011.

I just noticed that I passed the 11,000 post mark. I don't usually hold much stock in post count, but I am also pushing 10 years on Red Square. The ten year thing makes me proud to be a part of this great family on this excellent site. I just want to thank you all for making me feel so welcome and a big part of this community. When I think back on things, the "Steve on a Stick" at last years show was the height of all this site has to offer for me. All you guys made me feel like I was there. That was very special.to me. We all do so many special things on this site...the top one is all the selfless help everyone gives so freely, and the other one is how we treat people like how we all want to be treated. I just wanted to say Thank You for letting me be a part of it.

Steve—congrats on the milestone but I agree with the sentiment above. You welcomed me into the forum warmly and that care has extended to my family as well. Your expertise has benefited so many but your kind manner is much appreciated. Many warm well wishes from the Stertz family to you today. Can’t wait to see you in a couple of weeks!!!

I spent last week on a fishing trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of northern Minnesota. The BWCAW is a huge wilderness area along the Ontario border about two hours north of Duluth, MN. Except for a few designated lakes with a 25 hp motor limit, the area -and the adjacent Quetico Provincial Park - is off limits to engines or motors of any kind. Access is limited by a permitting system and it’s completely realistic to spend several days in a row fishing and not see another human being. Truly one of North America’s treasures. Anyway, my family has been making annual trips up there since 1976. I’ve been going since I was a little kid, so over 30 years. Like anywhere else in this part of the world the weather can change really fast. Ice went off off the lake in the pictures you see below on May 11th. I took these pictures Tuesday after they had a couple weeks of weather in the 80’s. Surface water temperature was about 74 degrees. That’s a FAST warmup and spawning season for the various fish is all messed up. Tuesday evening a storm rolled in. I thought these pictures were awesome and wanted to share. First picture was taken at 7:46 pm. Water was flat calm but the storm was coming and the clouds were the same color as the lake. Wall cloud picture at 7:47. Notice the limp flags. Next wall cloud picture at 7:49. Lake still calm but the flags were fluttering. At 7:50 the dust was blowing and dad was holding on to his hat. 7:51 the Adirondack chairs blew off the dock into the lake. 7:53 the lake was boiling. And the temperature has plummeted at least 30 degrees F. Amazing. Steve

Not really worth anything ...well maybe twenty five bucks if that. Tell you what tho since it's a good cause post your email address and I'll PayPal you a couple of bucks as a donation to your cause. Get a few other members to throw in you'll have twenty five clams for her in no time. Kinda like a RS go fund me. You keep the cart, give it a good home and put it to work. Guesskng she has no use for it. Only thing we ask is a pic of you handing her some cash.

Welded up the seat adjuster plate, installed the seat base for a test fit. Still have to notch the adjuster plate for the trans dipstick. Hope to get me a seat this week. Also test fit the side cover. The lower guide is a little too long and is bent a little. Now I can put a little more downward bend in it where it sits below the pulley. It rubs the belt just a hair. Also have to make a mounting tab for the front that will slide under the battery tray. Had to cut the front tab off because my “replacement” engine doesn’t have the outer ring of mounting holes that a factory engine does. No big deal. Got it already figured out and will make it tomorrow.

500 Specials were only made in 1968 and when it comes down to it, no more than just a low line machine with recoil start and a Tecky. Regardless, I think there's a cool factor to them. I tried to talk my dad into buying one when I saw it on Chandlers sales floor but he wouldn't because of the motor. A while back I was given two 'parts only' tractors, a 657 and a 500 Special. Now I have the 500 Special that I wanted 50 years ago......but with a few changes that might have convinced my dad to get one back then. The fender and seat are done as well as the belt guard. Finishing will be soon. I agree with the others here. Maybe $100. The deck does look decent though.

While working to help an under privileged lady I discovered this old wheel horse trailer in the weeds. It is somewhat rough as can be seen in the pictures..Would there be a market for this sort of thing? Maybe we can help out the lady with a few dollars.

I recently acquired this wheel horse from my grandfather. He said that it belonged to my great grandfather. I can’t seem to find any identification tags. Can anyone help with what model this may be or a more precise location of the identification tag? I would like to repower it and do a restomod to pull my sprayers and spreaders. Thank you in advance.

Do not use starting fluid. The ether is so volatile that it could harm the engine. If you want to add anything to the gas I would suggest SeaFoam. Chances are it may help but nothing will replace doing the job right the first time.

The horse looks to be in pretty good shape. The Lawn Rangers all came with Tecumseh's...H5.5 (1962) and H60 from (1963 to 1965). Some members here may have a good H60 Tecumseh that they would sell, but parts for these are becoming harder to find. A 6 hsp predator, Honda, or Kohler would be a better choice. A Kohler K181 7 hsp may fit also and would be a lot easier to find. I would check with some of the members to see if a 7 hsp would fit.

hi men, a few years ago i helped a co-worker acquire a C160 with a tiller. i did my best to rig a hardware store system to lift the tiller. any way my co-worker reported that the tiller was leaking. i picked the tractor up and when i got it home i realized this old tractor needed some additional maint. both axle seals were leaking. so i pulled the hubs and replace those. the brake band seal was leaking so i replaced that. oil change, air filter and fuel filter for the kohler. grease all the zerks. then i replaced the tiller seals. next, i installed one of lowells rear rockshaft kits. WOW! fits perfectly. the tiller now has plenty of travel to till deep. yet, still when fully raised up it has plenty of ground clearance for traveling back to the garage. the quality of the hardware in his kit is first class. not exactly cheap price but, you get what you pay for in this life. hope this helps you guys mike in mass.

These Delco-Remy starter generators do not need polarized as they self polarize when the starter engages. If it starts, it should charge. If not, make sure it is wired properly. by checking out the manual link below. If it is, I would probably check the brushes inside the starter generator, the voltage regulators don't go bad very often. I say all this to you after I had to completely redo all the electrical on a Panzer with the same starter generator system not too long ago and learned a lot. If you don't feel comfortable with doing the brushes yourself, find a local starter repair shop. I'm fortunate to have a good shop locally that works on the old stuff. This is a 42" side disch mower deck model 5-1010 (1973 ?). The side 'Double D pulleys are # 5877 or 106846. The 2-belt center Double D pulley is #6692 or 106847. To my knowledge, these are NLA from Toro. I have sold many of them over the years, but can't help you this time. If you can't find the Double D pulleys, you can always swap over to the newer style with just 5/8" or 3/4" ID round pulleys. The 3/4" uses a woodruff key and the 5/8" does not. Of course, you'd need to change out the Double D blades too, or MAYBE you can machine the blade holes to round shape. Anyway... here are pics of the 3 pulleys.

I did some more research today and found a website that listed a station in my town that sells pure gas. Called them up and confirmed. They sell 90 octane ethanol free. 3 minutes from my house.
