9 pointsThere is actually someone out there that makes the correct neck. It is a supplier of hit&miss engine parts. I will look for the information and post it.

9 pointsI was in the same situation once Dells Patina looks fine with fresh paint. Before After Rustoleum antique white

8 pointsPosted this a while back over on My Old Machine and thought others here would also be interested. Wish I could find one to go in my chainsaw tool and attachment collection. Bet it needs a REAL good air filter.

8 pointsI was watching the Olympics last night. I had it recorded from the night before ( so I could fast forward the commercials. ) I was very proud when I saw Shaun White win a gold medal. He was celebrating with the U.S. flag and when he was done celebrating he walked away dragging the U.S. flag on the ground and actually stepped on the flag several times. He treated the flag like a dirty old rag. I don't know if this angers anyone else but I lost dear friends in the jungles of Vietnam fighting to defend what that flag stands for. I had other friends taken prisoner at the age of 19 and were never heard from again. Our young folks should be taught to respect the flag that others died to defend. What do you guys and gals think ?
-
8 pointsUnfortunately it happens more often than one cares to admit. It comes generally from the way kids are raised in a society where priorities and actual education about life and history are becoming more misguided every day. One can perhaps excuse a small child for doing it , however correct him or her, but a man of that age and education should know better. People here have too much, obtained at the cost of the lives of those who sacrificed and sacrifice so much for that flag and what it represents. Perhaps they should live for a while under some other flag to appreciate what they have. There are a lot of them out there to choose from. I know it from experience and I made my choice.
-
8 pointsYes, when I saw that it bothered me as well. I know that he could say he was "caught up in the moment", and didn't realize it was dragging the ground, but to me, that does not excuse disrespecting the flag. I also don't like when they wrap the flag around their shoulders like a cape. It's not clothing. Display it proudly. The world is watching.

7 pointsFYI Several folks have asked about replacement filler tubes for their damaged RJ (and other 1 3/4 inch threaded filler tube necks. Here is a source for them . I have two that I ordered last summer but have not placed on the tanks yet. I will be having an expert welder friend do this work for me. I can;t say if welding, brazing or some other technique is best for replaement but these filler tubes are the right size. NOTE: The lenght of the tube is longer than the original RJ gas tank neck. So it possibly could be raised higher or set to original depth. http://www.fillernecksupply.com/1-3-4-inch-steel-filler-neck-1-75-45mm-x-95-24mm-7739598/

6 pointsLittle update on the new family members. It has bee about six weeks and the whole family has warmed up to us and are becoming lovable lap cats. When the three of them get wound up playing it is soooo much fun to watch and they have accepted the fact that they are not welcome on the table or counter tops (thanks to a "ScatMat"). They all like the "Cat Home Entertainment System"! AKA bird feeder.

5 pointsI'm getting ready to start ordering parts for my 67 lawn ranger and this is the best place to find out what parts will work. L157. Serial # 280582 ENGINE-- H60. 75117F Serial # 5217 When i try to pull start it slips inside the cover I believe there called starter dogs. I see why there called DOGS because it dog gone hurts when I pull it. I did some research and found these parts but I don't know if there the correct parts. Tecumseh 590148 starter dogs 37966 (replaces 32125) starter cup. I already picked up a cheapo carburetor and I'll replace the old one with it. The PO tried to repaint it and did a bad job so I'll have to get all the old paint off and see if I can save the old paint. I did see where gas got on the front axle from the carb needle not seating and gas leaked out. I have to shut off gas valve every time or it leaks. And the paint just bubbled up. If gas will work maybe something a little less flammable will remove the old paint. New tires all around will be next . And of course a brand new seat that I've already made. I already changed oil and rear end grease. New plug and rewire the whole tractor. The deck is in great shape but color is faded badly so strip and repaint and blades and belt. I'll go through it all. I'll have to wait for the weather to get warmer for this to happen. Then I'll start on the 1054 that I have in pieces. I'll probably have the frame sand blasted on the 1054 but that's for another post.

5 pointsMany of us myself included like to listen to music in our shops. I am curious as to what kind of gear everyone uses. Starting it off, since I have been an audio buff all of my life and I don't get rid of anything, so I use some of my accumulated components from past years. I am a big fan of analogue audio so my systems always reflect that. I use two vintage receivers, a Mcintosh 1900 and a tube HH Scott 340B. For speakers I use a pair of Dynaco's A25 which I switch back and forth between the two receivers. Since I am a big fan of vinyl I use again vintage turntables. A manual Pioneer PL71 and a full automatic Dual 1229Q. All my equipment is fully restored and updated. I also use a dedicated IPad to listen to downloaded music and a inexpensive small CD player. All can be switched at will between the two receivers. Everything is fit into one cabinet with intake and exhaust fans for ventilation. The Scott can actually be used as a room heater so it has its own supplementary ventilation.

5 pointsWell, I've got my 857 running, cleaned up, and clearcoated. Got a few flow indicators on the seat pan because the air temp was in the mid 60's, but I wanted it to look old anyway. About half of it has had one old repaint and the rest was original paint. I wire wheeled down the wheels and scuffed them with 220. Now I don't know if I want to clear coat them or paint them white. Looking for ideas. One rear rim looked great, sadly the weather has worked in the others. Let me know what you think.
-
5 pointsWalked into the shop today, to find these laying next to the trash. Seems they were ballast in the bottom of old standing job site lights. Looked like free wheel weights to me...feel about 50#'s each. but, of course, the bolt holes aren't spaced wide enough to fit our rims. At three inches thick, think a local machine shop would drill these out for me?
-
5 pointsI doubt anyone could drill them. Just send them to me and I will dispose of them for you ....at no cost!. Good find!!

5 pointsI agree - watched it live. One, our kids aren't raised the same way anymore. My daughter understands it and teaches hers what I was taught in the Corps, great but not everyone was raised that way, nor was it kept in the schools. Things have changed, not always for the better but we either have to educate the others or remain quiet - your choice. I'm not quiet, nor even all that polite about it but it's just the way I am. A lot of old values have been lost - it's the fault of prior generations like mine and I'm the first to admit it too, we didn't stand up for what generations prior to us created many years ago and this is the price. Guys like Shaun are common - they really don't know any better and were not taught the respect the way we were - nor were they taught by example of what it was to watch friends get killed in action by the tens of thousands at a time. Sure , there's been modern wars and atrocities, but nothing like the past and now Patriotism is just a talking point of politicians - they don't practice what they preach. That sets a bad example for our youth - this is the result . Another thing - previous generations fought to protect the rights of the general population - cannot ignore that . Folks forget that part of that right is our free speech and freedom to express. Yes, it's a sign of disrespect to drag that flag - but he does in ways have that right under our Constitution - goes the same with the idiots that burn it - much to my irritation. Like it or not - and I don't , he does have that right . It's our own fault for not teaching the respect side of it - that freedom came at such a great price and we continue to pay that price. If they are not taught otherwise, well - we have to live with what happens as a result. Things are not getting better - regardless of who is in power it's all just talk - don't watch what they say - watch what they do. If half of this nation practiced what it preached it would be a different place and that's as far as I'm going with it. Not going to start any political fights here, makes no sense nor does it do any good - we're all a friendly community - would like to see it stay that way. Sarge

5 pointsI know a lot of people would not agree with me, but I think having the draft again would change our young people for the better - I have a grandson who was on the wrong road and I talked him into joining the Marines..he didn't like me for awhile, but he is a 40 year old example of an upstanding Christian husband, father and community leader....wouldn 't have happened without the service...
-
5 pointsSadden to hear this. I had a lot of respect for Shawn White for his athletic ability. But he's got to have respect for our flag, especially representing our great country in front of the world.
-
5 pointsI bought another project tractor about a month ago and I made a new flag to make it easier to swap out my snow blower from my other tractor. Not because it is hard to do but just for something to do.
-
4 pointsI contacted them last year about this. I suggested that there’s a market out there for the rolled threaded filler necks and caps used on many old lawnmower/garden tractor gas tanks. Maybe if they were to get more requests they’d start producing them.
-
4 pointsI thought that some filler tubes were soldered in.?
-
4 pointsOh, so... no respect for the flag, or women? Big deal, he's an athlete...what a man.
-
4 pointsAfter marching in a Memorial Day parade in town one time and after the parade we went to the VFW and on the way I saw 3 Boy Scouts were walking dragging the flags they were carrying and I commented that they should Never drag the flag on the ground and should respect it. One of the parents yelled back I'll take care of my kids, mind you own business. I guess they don't teach much to the Scouts and the parents didn't learn much in school.
-
4 pointsTotally agree. Even on old rusty car or truck looks cool with a good set of wheels & tires. I'd paint the rims.
-
4 pointsOne thing that will change the look of anything is a nice set of wheels/tires. With rusty wheels you just have a tractor. With fresh painted wheels/ nice tires on the same tractor you have a cool custom. Don’t know why but thats the way it seems to be.
-
4 pointsI feel exactly the same way, while I'm working. "Annoying" probably isn't the right word in my case, more like "distracting". But I do appreciate a good sound system, so I'll be watching this thread all the way.

3 pointsWell, it was listed for a week with no bids and now it is back with an asking price of $ 70.93.
-
3 pointsI really don't believe that I would have the nerve to use that.....whooa...
-
3 pointsYes it has electric start and it works fine but I want everyone thing to work as it should.
-
3 pointsWhat a great looking tractor. Doesn't it have electric start? The seat......... the seat..... my kingdom for the seat. I pick my 64 up on Sunday.
-
3 pointsSame thing with humans and paint - especially on beautiful old original hard woods... The time I've spent over the years correcting someone else's "repairs" I swear has wasted 1/3 of my time on this Earth, and folks wonder why I have a rotten temper... Sarge

3 pointsInstalled a NOS hose from a member on the D - nice to see the 3pt stay up and not leak all over the place for once, not to mention it's a lot stronger now since it's not getting air in the cylinder. Got tired of the engine melting any snow that came over the top of the blade and freezing up the linkage over time - the thing will push piles way over the height of the blade easily, so I built a flap for it . Rubber strips are old stock ones that were used on Western truck plows a buddy had at the shop - it's a great material. The flap sure helps a lot to keep material from topping over and seems to roll the snow easier as well - may make a more permanent one out of steel this summer to help it roll even more. Everything was melting heavily yesterday since it warmed up to 40*F - pulled the trailer out of the way and plowed the area it sits so all the water could drain out of the parking lot and not force it toward the shed and cause it to sink . 3pt lift works a lot better and the flap performed as expected, overall a good day but that dampness put an ache in my joints I can't get rid of a day later...ugh. 3 pointsExcellent business, I have bought from Norm quite a few times and have never had an issue with any of his parts and he ships fast. As mentioned, you can actually call him and talk to him about issues you are having and he will walk you through things over the phone. A+ business in my book!
-
3 pointsOK I'm no rear hub expert but since theses cast versions are longer made (just wondering out loud here) if someone like myself (machinist) were to use a 4100 series tool steel and make up new ones if they would hold up as good as the cast versions maybe 2 parts the actual axle hub with keyway and set screws then the wheel/rim flange with the stud/bolt holes, the hub machined to press fit into the flange then welded ...I see many parts through out the factory machined/made very similar and holding up quite well where no one cares till its broken, again just thinking out loud probably will get me in trouble, Jeff.
-
3 pointsWhile you can find some parts cheaper, you can actually talk to Norm about any problems you may have, great guy.
-
3 pointsThat's not patina on those wheels... they're well past due for some color correction.
-
3 pointsThat was originally my plan. I think I'll go ahead and freshen them up. I just didn't want to be too hasty and then realize I should have left them alone.

3 pointsill listen to sports or talk but rarely music when wrenching on tractors. And rarely listen to anything. But you have a nice set up formariz.

3 pointsThanks Steve. It seems most patina tractors have their wheels painted. I just wonder if since the rest of the tractor is imperfect paint, should the wheels reflect age and a certain amount of imperfections. But, you've got to admit fresh wheels look really sharp!
-
3 pointsI have no problem painting the wheels on a patina tractor. Whatever you decide it will look fine.
-
3 pointsI don't listen to music while working. Call me crazy but I find it annoying.
-
2 pointsWe don't ever say Craig is right around here Don........ he has a tendency to get a big head !
-
2 pointsI am not sure I would want to use that. Looks like a easy way to loose a leg. Wonder what happens when you hit a big old rock or block of concrete ?

2 pointsWhere are the sparks located? Several possibilities are : one of the AC wires is shorted to ground inside the flywheel the AC wires are not on the AC posts on the regulator the regulator is not grounded to the tractor. the regulator has melted and the AC wire are shorted directly to the DC battery wire
