Ok, maybe this will get us back on topic. Today I made a safety light and pole for the 312 plow tractor .

Too bad three of your pictures were dumped by Photobucket. As far as I can determine there were three generations of 953, the first 1000 +/- had the recessed head lights which were actually left over HL-22 kits (serial numbers 62- XXX), Ross steering and the steering wheel shown below. Also the hydraulic pump had a different type spring which I understand is only found in the 953 and the HY-2 pumps. The second 1000 +/- had the the Ross steering but the later steering wheel and head lights like the 1054 (serial numbers 3XXXX). The third generation had the fan gear steering and continued the 1054 steering wheel and head lights (serial number 4XXXX). The 1054 is basically a third generation 953 with a slightly different seat frame. The bends on the seat frame of the 953 (all three generations) are smooth and the bends on the 1054 seat frame is dimpled at the bends. Actual production numbers don't exist, but @gwest_ca has compiled a list of serial numbers known to exist which you should find meets your needs.

Yes Thank you Karl. Personally I think some hacked into your site, possibly from the green & yellow side of the fence, saw how much fun we were having and stole it. New tires on the 1257, pulled (stubborn) hubs and added a second set screw. Got started on a K301 rebuild.

Getting plenty of use out of the snow blower and this year, always warm for a change with the cab on.

Ok...... here you go. Still have to weld it up. Cycles fine. Hinge bracket is sandwiched between two pieces of angle and runs to another bracket I made that bolts to the fuel tank lower plate. It will not touch the fuel tank. Still have to make the cross braces and the hood bracket.

-13 this AM on the Sienna thrmometer. Ran out to get the cable luber for the 520. Got home and wanted to clean up the driveway and sidewalk. C-160 went 10 ft. and died. Electric fuel pump quit. Went and got a pump and finished up and almost got run over by a state plow. Now I got carb problems on the 160 as well. Maybe if I buy 5 more tractors I'll be able to plow once with out an incident.

No socks , there is not enough rock and rye for plowing snow like that.

Just came in from blading 5" of that fantastic white stuff...temp about 24 F and dropping. The 857 is just loving the snow and lots of waves and honks from the traffic going by. No socks yet...not cold enough.

Played around on the lathe today and turned out some dies for pressing bronze bushings into 3pc differentials and axle tubes. This way i minimize the amount of mushrooming when i press them in vs beating them in with a hammer and socket. Going to use them on my upcoming suburban transmission rebuild.

Hello, I recently acquired a very nice early production 1963 Wheel Horse Model #953. Serial Number is 62- 379, which makes it the 379th one built. It has the rare early production steering wheel and the Ross Aluminum steering gear box. This was owned by an old timer for many years. Probably his pride and joy for many years. There is hardly any wear and tear on it. The black rubber footrests are in great condition still. If you can, post a pic of your 953, with Serial Number that would be great. I want to see the cut off point from old style steering wheel to the new style. Thank you...KJ

Got the trans all cleaned up. Knocked out the bearings and bushings, axle bushings had little wear. Mushroom gear and diff gear a little worn. Smoothed them out a little with a file as they are going back in.

First off, thanks Ed, WHX14, 953nut, and pfredri. All a great help. And again I say what a great forum! I look forward to being part of Red Square. I'm working on getting the A800 ranger up and running then to rebuild the now to be known "Electro 12" engine. Have a farm a little north of me and there is Toro Wheel horse in the drive shed. Never payed too much attention to it as it was Toro branded but, I do recall a factory tag on it that said "experimental not for sale". I'll have to take a better look and will let you know. Thanks again

These will be the before photos. I am not really sure of the year, just that the guy I got it from inherited it from inherited it from his uncle who owned it since 1972. I have all the parts. Even the tires are original and in good shape. No rust and all the sheet metal is very straight. It's been sitting in a barn for a very long time .

Well had fun with my 1979 C-161 B&S 8 Speed with the single stage snow thrower... during the last blizzard that dumped 16" on Eastern Long Island. Did the first pass during the blizzard and a second pass afterwards. Ran like a charm though with 10F weather and nor'easter 50 mph winds the side cooling grill would get frozen and the engine almost over heated in the arctic cold. So kept a snow scraper to keep air-flowing through the grill And it's self-driving too as you can see with zero computers Made in U.S.A with American hands! #MAGA Click to See Youtube Video. As I can't figure out how to EMBED!!!!! lol https://youtu.be/bxKlqe8UkkI

I keep one of my 520’s in an unheated barn. It must have gotten jealous because it peed transmission oil all over the floor. I’ve seen this before and now I’m convinced it is extreme temperature changes that causes the uncontrolled bladder problem. The oil appears at the dipstick tube, runs down and spills quite a bit on the floor. Oil level shows correct on the dipstick.

Pushed another 3" of snow out of the drive and widened (the streets) for 3 blocks around the neighborhood and cleared the snow from the fire department doors.

Nuttin exciting here....checked the oil and topped off the fuel to be prepared for a Tue-Wed snow fall. To cold to be tinkering in the garage!!

Squonk, if I were you, I would run screaming into the nearest corn field and hide for a while. Sounds like you have some bad karma brewing...maybe pet the monkey.
  27. 4 points
Not the valves. I wonder if the spring broke on your ACR on the cam shaft. It would make more noise going slow then at fast idle. Your exhaust valve rides on that part. Also, maybe check if something is stuck around the flywheel and the flywheel cover. Certain things like to get in there if an engine sets for a long time.

Model number makes it an Electro 1970 Listed Spec number for the engine should have been 47371C The engine spec number you have is listed for the 1969 Electro I have a 69 and it has eh 47147C motor. However WH probably had some 47147C engines left aftr 69 and used them in 1970. Your engine originally had a Breakerless ignition system. It has been replaced with a battery system...much easier and cheaper to work on. Electro also would have had an electric PTO but when they failed it was common to substitute a manual. The hydro lift was standard on Electros optional on Chargers. They are fantastic tractors. I have 4 Chargers and Electros. You absolutely can't beat them for snow plowing work I think it should have had hub caps also (at least the 69s did) Also looks like the lift control valve has been replaced

Hope you feel better Jerry! Your idea of organizing sounds a lot like mine. My honey and I spent a lot of yesterday cleaning up in the downstairs Workshop areas. I experienced several moments that were - I forgot I had that!

These are very cool Rich! I can’t wait to see “mock up” pics of these on Skittles in a test run. I’ve never personally cared for the “hinge” or latch design of the GT-14. I think this is a super cool modification that is also functional. Please keep all the dimensions in case one of us (me) would like to implement it on Their GT-14 in the future! Great work as always

Your English is very good, better than some Americans I know! When your mechanic takes a look at the tractor be sure to have him clean and tighten all electrical connections including grounds. A bad connection can prevent a good starter from operating properly. The best lubrication to us on the Bendix drive is a dry graphite spray, it will lubricate without attracting dirt deposits.

Thanks guys! Yes everything helps - especially laughter. I'm going to adjust the time (points) put on my new ignition goodies, rewire, and regulator and give her another try before I pull the pan off. I've got a 701 that has a 7hp kohler that ticks some, but is almost more of a wear knock than tick. Both engines run really good, smooth, with very little to no smoke. Probably two best running small engines I have - they hang in there with the 12hp on coyote for idle and throttle response and that's the best running Kohler I've had. Love these little kohlers!

We got 4" here , temps are right at 10* and 30+mph winds. Still got the flu, today has been the worse so far in the last week - 102* fever . The wind can move the stuff for all I care...not going out until maybe later in the week. Sarge

It's good advice and I appreciate that and I don't mean to sound ungrateful but obviously you guys are not reading the directions correctly. I only have tick. No flea. I can't use that stuff.

@WHX14 those look like OTR’s to me....I think you’ll like them. They’re a softer compound and bit really good .
  45. 3 points
As far as the flapping goes, at least 2 of my 520's are actually worse than yours. Don't wear the belts though. The bushings in the belt tensioner tend to wear and when they fail, the tensioner itself gets worn. This will cause the tensioner to sit at a slight angle instead of being parallel to the belt. I would double check that everything is good with the tensioner assembly as that would likely be the only thing that could be causing your issues.

@Walt, are those new front tires "Trac Gard" or "Hi Run" they are basically the same tread pattern as the ones I have been transitioning to on my 520Hs and IMHO are way better than the factory DICO brand and do hold pretty good mowing on wet mornings and moving snow, Jeff.
