22 pointsHad to haul out the ashes and bring another load of coal up today...been burning it at bit faster rate of late. Has warmed up to 9 degrees and the faithful ranger fired right up and was ready to go to work immediately. She has been making the ash and coal haul run every 10-14 days in the winter for 18 years now. She is my only horse that get used year around Added to the years working for my Father I would say the $435 he spent on her in 1967 was a decent investment.

9 pointsSpent time today thinking of many friends both here and gone... makes you realise the important things even for a moment . Heres to health and happiness to all and may another Wheel Horse grace your presence in 2018. Sparky (Mike) and I will be seeing Saltywright (Russ) in morning to complete our first deal. Tony

9 pointsThanks. My wife has been wanting one for a while. Sadly I don't have many pictures of the project. I've cheated a little in that I started with a base cabinet from Home Cheapo. I've used a solid wood glued panel for the top and number 2 pine shelving for the surround. The trim is a mix of preprimed pine and mdf. I've tried to make it modular so that it could be torn down and moved. Only slip I made was on the arches on each side (centered on shelf, but off center a little due to trim difference on the inside edges - oh well). I've got a couple of pieces of pickled paneling that will go on the back after she paints the rest. I used to make and sell wooden toys at craft shows within a 2 hr radius of home. I used walnut, pine, cheery, cedar and other locally sawn woods along with some exotics. We lost Mom 2 years ago this past October and I've had no interest in woodworking since. I'm rusty, but I've kind of enjoyed this project. Below is where I am today and a sample of my toys. Happy New Year!

9 pointsHappy New Year to each of you. My 3 sons were all different directions after Christmas so my Wife and I made our first trip to Branson, Mo. Wonderful family friendly entertainment. I've been impressed that our Christian God and our Veterans have bee honored at each of the shows

8 pointsWhat else do you guys do beside collect Wheel horses? My family enjoys going camping, plus we do some camping at tractor shows. We collect wheel horses, antique tractors and implements(between me and dad we have roughly 30 old plows). I have 2 old engines and we have some cattle. We are involved in our local tractor club.i also have an old pull type combine that I enjoy playing with in the fall. My family also has a large farm toy collection

8 pointsHappy New Year all. Another quiet night here at the Maynard house. We went to our favorite restaurant and had our traditional Maryland Crab cakes... Then we hung with Capt'n Morgan for awhile, followed by some TV and off to bed. Very exciting...

7 pointsJust saw this thread. Wow everybody got some great gifts! I made out pretty good too. Just before Christmas, my dad got the back tire fixed on my 52 8N (popped the tube doing a hay ride for school back in Oct and was losing fluid. He got me two new 11.2x24 tires for the back of my little Deere loader (I know blasphemy) that I use for farm chores and bush hogging. He gave me a some $ too. Awesome presents! I also got some new slacks for work, pjs, and a new welding helmet from the wife. Great Christmas! Right now, I'm working on her Christmas present - I'm building her an entertainment center to cover the ugly built in shelves in our living room. Got a long way to go. And I think the best gift I could have gotten was the excitement Emory has had over his new tractor!

6 pointsThanks for the great pic's Ed. We haven't gotten much snow here just cold, cold, cold. Truly, once you get acclimated.... below 0 is still cold! We were blessed with this fantastic sun rise yesterday.

5 pointsWhen you drain the old oil you should jack up the front end to insure complete emptying. You will probably want to put a half gallon of diesel fuel in to flush the old sludge out. Put it on jack stands and run it in each gear for a few minutes and then jack the front and drain again. Use two quarts of 90 Gear Oil and get a new rubber boot for the shifter.

5 pointsthanks for the pics guys! Love the “idea” of a nature walk right now but in practice I like laying here on the couch looking at a couple of vintage truck mags that I got for Christmas and enjoying the heat of the pellet stove. I live only about 15 miles from @Achto and so the weather is the same here as at his house—COLD The boys are playing with their games. My oldest had “lost” his DS gaming system for about 4 months. I was cleaning through some stuff and found it in the bottom of a box. When I gave it to him and my second son—you’d have thought it was Christmas all over again!!! We are somewhat watching the rose parade. I have so much to be thankful for in this new year. God bless you all and my friends

-
4 pointsAwesome! Love the history on these engines! We have several friends that still find these and pull them out of the woods and restore them and get them running again! That set up is in good shape, have seen a lot worse come back from the dead
-
4 pointsThank you, I will. Just couldn't turn the money down. Would've been bad business to refuse. Thanks I'll hold on to the handle for a while. Kinda sad, 2 "kids"in 2 days.

4 pointsWow! Now I'm really digging that idea! Probably wouldn't work though. Right now I'm working on an entertainment center that I promised the wife I'd build her for Christmas. She's used to me working in the garage - she knows it's my therapy. Keeps me sane. She's the same way about school stuff (she teaches k, I teach 2nd) - she loves to read about school stuff and work on things for her class at night. When I get home, I need something different and the horses give Emory and I some quality time together.
