I live on the south face of the southernmost White Mountains of Maine. It gets cold here. But I've been in my house for nearly 13 years and this is the lowest I can remember it. You know, it may be incredibly cold but these completely still winter mornings are something to behold. Beautiful Cloud striped Sunrise coming up behind ice covered trees. 200 plus year old homes with the smoke coming up out of the chimney stick straight. Everything covered in a fresh film of white. Snowshoeing in the forest with my favorite people tomorrow. Wood stove Heat. Repeat. It's going to be a good weekend.

Made some new plow wings for the B-8 from an old plastic barrel. These are a little be larger than the ones i made last year and really help hold the snow in from the edge of the blade. The new ones are green. Fastened with one bolt behind the wear bar and rubber edge. I still have to hook up the led head lites that i installed and the winch that i want to get to lift the blade,

1996 models used the M12 cast iron engine. Perhaps it is newer than 1996. 1998 used the CH12.5 engine. I think the transmission will have 1-1/8" axles with double axle seals but only 4 of the usual 8 pinion gears. Garry

Well I found a way to cut the video to less than 15 mb. Just a little clip of the old horse dragging a big pine log. Hope it works! Name your video_Small.mp4

I unlock this long enough to show you the calendar. With the software in place here on RS, the image resolution isn't what I hoped it to be. Next year, I might have members email me their images with descriptions, names, etc., so I can get the higher quality images. The original pdf I made was around 200 mg, but Karl reduced it down to a more reasonable size without really affecting the image quality. I might work on a second calendar, but my time isn't as sparse as I would like. For those who didn't make the calendar, it wasn't because of the pictures you submitted - I tried to get some balance in the calendar of themes, models, years, etc. I wanted an image of a 953, but no one submitted one or I just overlooked it. My 953 isn't calendar quality ready, so I never even considered it. I do hope you guys enjoy it. As I said, I may tried to make a second calendar using unused images from this thread. A big thanks to all who contribute and to Karl for reducing the size for me.

It's been down in the single digits here 0-10 above for about 2 weeks. I hate it. These old bones can't take the cold like they use to.

Hey there, I’m new to the old tractor/ wheel horse world. A guy is selling this GT 14, and I’m curious as to what you guys think it is worth based on your knowledge. He is asking $900. I know it has complete 3 point set up, and PTO. Along with the blade. He says blade is hydraulic. It also comes with the mowing deck in working condition. According to seller it runs great. I haven’t seen it yet but from the picture it looks like a solid machine. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry to hear you've been sick Fred. Hope you're doing better. Emory loves his tractor. It was a great Christmas for him. Nothing like being able to share our hobby with our sons! Best time ever. Emory keeps asking how long to the Big Show and if he can bring his new tractor!

You are in luck Paul if you want to change out that spring. I have been in contact with @sfjohnson722 (Shawn) about his transmission. He went to a machine shop and had some made. He had some extras made so if someone needed one he would sell one. Here is a picture. new one on the right the metal is made of 4150

"blade is hydraulic" - means it lifts off the hydraulics via the rock shaft system on the tractor - it's not a power angle setup or anything like that - just fyi ... Biggest sticking point is the older transmission/pump system - it's an older Sundstrand and if it's in good condition with no issues that's fine , otherwise if it's weak in reverse it will need repaired or replaced and parts aren't cheap . Keep things like that in mind as it needs to be tested when fully hot - especially in reverse . Prices vary by region/condition/equipment - that 3pt will command a higher price . The non-stock blade , and any possible hacking of the tractor are not a good thing . Sarge

In spite of a few non-Wheel Horse original modifications it looks very good. The GT-14 is a strong pusher and if it runs well and the transmission is strong you will be doing OK at $ 900. Bring a chain with you and tie it off to a tree to see if it will spin the tires in both directions against an immovable object. Depending on the size of your yard it will do a good job of mowing. If you have a small yard with lots of turns it might not be the best choice.

Dick was younger in those days. He used a shovel! We had a road look just like that after Super Storm 93. I drove though it to go look at a snowblower that was for sale that day.

Hi all. I'm currently redoing a work horse gt1142 but more custom then original. I've bought a p216 onan and the HD 8 speed 8 pinion rear diff to swap into it the rear end Ive already rebuilt currently waiting to get seals for it though. The onan I have picked up for $200 with about 1,050 hours that I'm tearing to to hone up re ring and reseal it. Everything so far looks good and seems to be well taken care of

Thanks for all the good info guys. I would just use it as a utility tractor to push the driveway off, move mulch etc. I wouldn’t be mowing with it. I will go check it out, get it warmed up and see how it runs. Maybe try to get him down on the price a little. Thanks again!

If that is a working 3 point hitch, it’s worth 3-400 by itself. Deck is work at lest a 100. The plow is not correct for it. The GT14 May be set up to use the Hydraulics to lift the plow 3-4 inches or so. Depending on how he has implemented the non wheel horse plow, it may or may not have down pressure. It has manual rather than electric clutch and it appears to have modified front lights. Depending on how it runs, and the condition of the dash and tunnel plates, 900 May be fair price. Muffler is also not original.

That's what I was thinking. BTW, a lathe is not cheating, its a necessity. I have 3 of them. My 10" Clausing got this apart. That's a 9" South Bend in the picture.

A huge blower finally became available and it took 3 days to open the 17 mile road from our home to the school. The blower made a passing lane about every mile, but for the most part, the road was one lane until warmer temps melted the snow. Many residents including myself worked for the Township opening local roads with shovels.

Pretty close to what I had back then. They have improved upon the style of it. For I had to order about a size 1/2 larger because of the booty. Price sure has come down on them also. Mine were something like 169 or so . Thanks Craig.

Picked up this old 520H in Ohio. She was pretty rough. The plan was to clean up and make a mini loader to use around the yard. I have a D series loader that works pretty well but it is just too big. After a bath, tuning, some sand blast and paint, It started to look good. Installed a Matt860 Hydro pedal kit, upgraded the front axles to 1", new tries, weights, and used plans from PF engineering as the starting point for the loader. I modified the plan to have more bucket roll back when in the lower positon. (This does sacrifice the dump side at the raised position), I found a happy medium between the two without fancy linkage. I still have some fine tuning, the hydraulics are way too fast, at least on the boom lower. Looking into a flow control now. Thanks for looking, Joe

@CountySmoke to another Hoosier. Wheel Horse front blades can be angled right, left, center from the seat. Not sure about the one on this GT14. I have a GT14 and it has been a "snow pusher" in the past. It is a beast of a tractor!

The top picture by WVHillbilly520 looks to be the same shape deck mine being a bit newer and with quick attach hardware. I will attach pictures of mine tomorrow. The Model tags for both the 416-8 and mower deck are not there. The PO stated the 416 & mower deck were purchased together. There does not appear to be any cobbling to fit the deck to the Horse. The muffler on the 416-8 is horizontal. I did find a faded black with gold lettering electrical system warning label under the hood to the right of the battery (PTO side) but it had no dating (not even a copyright date). I am on the road so unable to access my notes with the partial numbers, I'll be back with those notes tomorrow and will add what I have in a next post. Thanks for everyone's interest and assistance.

Some of my starters have done the same thing in the past when it gets cold out. Usually just needs a cleaning and lube with graphite but inspecting it will tell you what's going on. It's a good thing to put on the "to do list" when prepping the tractor for winter. (I'm guilty of not doing it most of the time) I've had broken springs too, which seem to reveal that when it gets cold out. Nothing ever goes wrong when it's beautiful outside and you happen to have time! You can usually find a gear and spring on ebay. search 12v starter spring or 12v starter gear. Make sure it fits your starter so you may need to look up the starter number for your particular engine.

Did get about an inch today here not much more than a dusting but enough to make the roads greasy. Went to start the 520 and battery couldn't cut the mustard. Even had a trickle on it. Might be the -1 temp had a little something to do with it too! Older batt and probably got a dead cell so it's not like I didn't see it coming. Jumped it out got it running and in to the shop for a quick swap & some cab time. Driveway didn't really need it but I was jonesing!

Definitely! I finally bought a trailer so I will definitely be there Somebody has to keep an eye on @WHX12 - he will probably have changed his name to WHX16 by then. . I will bring my pallet grill as well so there will be some smoking going on!

I was at a school Near Rochester N.Y. yesterday finishing up a repair on a swimming pool AHU of all things. The sun was out and like 5 deg with a strong westerly wind. My co-hort calls and asks if I have any Hot Shot R-12 replacement on the truck. I say yes. He asks if I could bring it to him. He's about 20 mi east of me. I say sure. He says drive careful it's a white out here. I get about 5 miles to him and it starts dumping. There's about 8 inches on the ground and when I get to the school, I can't see the entrance road or even the school bldg for that matter.
