We live in a land that we have so much to be thankful for and some take so much for granted. Look around you today, be thankfull you can see, feel and touch. Love ones you can hold and tell I love you, memories that only you can enjoy. Oh and yes, little red tractors. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I am thankful to be part of this family. Now where did that turkey get off to...........🦃

To all RedSquare members, Lola and I Wish you a most wonderful Thanksgiving Day!! I am especially thankful to all our Veterans and to our military currently serving at home and overseas. A thought just occurred to me. I wonder how many of our military currently serving us in lands far away are Wheel Horse owners? Probably more than one would think. I am thankful for this forum and all the great people we have met along this journey. Every time I work my old commando it's like climbing on a time machine that takes me back to a time when jobs and opportunity outnumbered those who needed them. There are far more things that bring us together in this great land than there are that divide us. I am thankful for the Pond family who created one of the greatest products ever. I wonder if Elmer and Cecil ever imagined how their products would bring so many people together. God bless you all. Terry & Lola Dennis

Aldon, I can't take on none of your projects...... I can't even finish mine. but I would love to latch onto one of your GT14's. Glad I'm planning to move somewhere I can get some use out if mine. But man's plans and The Lord's plans are two different things. We will see.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!! If you know a farmer, give him a big Thanksgiving greeting. He is the reason we Americans have a bounty of food, no only today, but year round. On Thanksgiving, remember family farmers and their challenges: Willie Nelson https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/voices/2017/11/21/thanksgiving-remember-family-farmers-and-their-challenges-willie-nelson-column/871640001/

Happy Thanksgiving to all on the Red Square! May you have a great day of relaxation and fellowship with your friends and family. (A fresh pic just taken of/from my family to yours!) For those who are serving or have family serving away from home this thanksgiving Day we thank you for your service so that we can enjoy these blessings of freedom. Most at importantly that we thank God for the amazing blessings that are afforded to us and that we so often take for granted living in this great Nation—Under God. I’m going to insert a quote from one of our founding fathers and signers of the Declaration of Independence concerning this thought. He wrote this Thanksgiving Day proclamation in 1796... “And, together with our thanksgiving, earnest supplication to God is hereby recommended, for the forgiveness of our sins which have rendered us unworthy of the least of His mercies; and that by the sanctifying influence of His Spirit, our hearts and manners may be corrected, and we become a reformed and happy people – That He would direct and prosper the administration of the Government of the United States, and of this and other States in the Union – That He would still afford his blessings on our Trade, Agriculture, Fisheries and all the labors of our hands – That he would smile upon our University, and all seminaries of learning – That tyranny and usurpation may everywhere come to an end – That the nations who are contending for true liberty may still be succeeded by His Almighty aid – That every nation and society of men may be inspired with the knowledge and feeling of their natural and just rights, and enabled to form such systems of Civil Government as shall be fully adapted to promote and establish their social security and happiness – And, finally, that in the course of God’s Holy Providence, the great family of mankind may bow to the Scepter of the Prince of Peace, so that mutual friendship and harmony may universally prevail.” —Samuel Adams (then governor of Massachusetts) God bless you guys and your families and thank you for all your advice and input throughout this last year!

People went out west to find gold—if you took your collection with you, I think that you’d be bringing the “gold” to the west! Don’t do something in haste with this change of life that you’ll regret later. Plus—we’d miss you and your insightful posts too much!

Just brought this home. Its a sears gt 14 variable speed tractor. I have been keeping my eye on it past few weeks at local scrapyard. so this morning i put my 500CCA John Deere jump battery in my truck and a can of carb cleaner. got to scrapyard and i looked around. it was still there so i went back to the office and told the manager i would like to buy it but only if i can see if it will fire on carb cleaner. He said ok so i took truck back where tractors are and jumped the solenoid with the jump battery and it spun will compression sprayed carb cleaner into carb choked it and it fired right up. so i never seen the bracket on the back before. i am thinking about saving that bracket back for hanging weights on. no hood or grill wiring needs gone through and throttle cable needs fixed. and will need belts. all 4 tires are shot. but hey engine show potential. if all else fails ill sell engine later on off it

When you move west you’re still going to be in need of a tractor (I know you have several)..So why not have the baddest tractor on the block! Though if it was me it would be a plot of land somewhere outside of town where I could play with my all my toys . It does seem like all the rich folks are coming in and buying up ranches out west and driving up land prices. Wish they’d stay in their gated communities and leave us true land loving folks who’ll use it in which god intended. Farming, hunting, fishing not just for a status symbol.

Then back to the firearms? You might just "lose it" without a serious hobby to occupy your busy hands and mind........especially after retirement. I would never have guessed the annual precipitation would be that low in Boise. I would have thought it snowed tons there......
  30. 4 points
Just doesn’t make a lot of sense to drag tractors to Boise. Annual precipitation is 12” combined rain/snow. And it is quite possible this is where we end the merry go round and end up retiring. On the fence

Sure looks like a GD tranny in a GT-14 to me... massive modifications on this tractor... So, you’d have to study over how well everything thing was built and modified. And decide what it is worth to you. That FEL seems worth the price of admission.

I’ve never owned the Lxi but my buddy has a Cub Cadet 3205 with the FD620D Kawasaki engine in it! What an engine! Smooth and quiet yet powerful. People make a big deal about the plastic cam gears because that is about the only thing that one can point to as a failure point. You would definitely want to upgrade to the metal gears if that hasn’t been done. However, make sure you research the years that Kawi put the plastic ones in because it may not even be applicable with the tractor that you are looking at based on build date. My wife’s tractor “RED” is a 523D. It is the coolest work tractor that I’ve ever owned in spite of the nearly 1200 hours on the clock... They are big tractors as you can see compared to my minivan so I wouldnt recommend one for a small tight yard. The deuce will handle deep snow with ease! All in all a great working tractor... I personally think that the xi series tractors are one of the most underrated (invisible to the public) GT’s ever built. After two years of ownership, I wouldn’t trade mine for anything! plus—Momma would kill me! she loves her Diesel!

Your circuit probably cannot handle the inrush current on the little compressor. Is there anything else on your outlets? Any room in your box too add a dedicated circuit? You would need a 220v circuit anyway for the big compressor with a new motor. Going to need some oomph to get that big pump spinning. Without knowing what your current (No pun) electrical situation is, to get a large enough motor to run that compressor the way it was designed to do, you would at least need a 40 A circuit and 8 ga. wiring. That's figuring off the top of my head.

If your talking about the 1974-1977 models then there is no difference other than what you mentioned. They all have the same frame, steering and HD 8 speed.

This is the correct option in my opinion. Bolt a bigger Kohler right in it. The oil pans on Wheel Horse spec Kohlers have threaded holes in the bottom for mounting the engine to the frame so just any kohler won't be a direct bolt on. But the correct oil pan or a complete engine shouldn't that difficult to find. A mower deck sucks up a lot of power so a small 8hp probably isn't good for high grass but a 12hp should power right through it depending on the size of the deck. Curious what size deck you're running on there.

I want to give the yard a quick cleanup before company came. Dusted out the hard to tractor areas then put the bagger on and vacuumed it up. Of course I forgot I took the bag mount off last year and I then had to remove the 2" hitch because that hit the bag frame. After 40 min it was ready to work.

Next on the list was to try and get the tractor back on four wheels, the transmission had been fixed so next i needed to make a front axle as it was all missing. All the bits for the steering were remade to original specifications thanks to measurements from Ian (stigian) taken from Neils RJ. Wheels on and everything worked perfect

Looks like the owner did away with the lift cylinder for a deck or three point although that could be added and driven from the FEL pump. If it was running and operational I would think it would be worth $ 1,800 +/- so with a couple of bad tires and non-running I wouldn't be shy about offering $ 750 or $800. Cost more than that to build the loader. One big plus for the 8 speed in place of the Sundstrand is you will have mechanical brakes.

I'm no electrician........wood was my game, but almost every powered electrical device is initially going to require more amperage on start up than to keep it running. If your wire gauge and the breaker the current is running through isn't sized adequately, it's going to consistently trip the breaker. If the breaker fails and freakishly leaves the circuit open, the wiring to it will get hot and eventually fail.......meaning the end result could be a fire and no building to house that compressor......or anything else, for that matter.
  48. 3 points
Considering all that you would have to do: give up your compressor//additional electric service// and purchase a new motor....do you really need that big of a compressor? sounds nice, but........
  49. 3 points
Jeff, if a seven HP single phase motor is cost prohibitive check around for a smaller motor and change the drive pulley size to allow it to run the compressor at a slightly slower speed. https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200660731_200660731
