15 pointsThis now C-175 started out as a C-81. Engine is a NOS Short block KT-17 with parts from a JD 317 and a true C-175 with a blown motor and an isolation mount.. Had to get a new hood and modify the hood mounting to clear the muffler. still hit at times. Has about 180 hours on her but I was tired of the engine bouncing around. The isolation mounts were aging...I know you can make replacements but I was looking at my 418A with a solid mount an realized that would be cheaper and easier to switch to that set up. The only difference between an M18 and KT 17 Series II really is the ignition system ( I have never noticed much vibration in the 418) so I got a mounting plate from A to Z and put her back together. Smooth is all i can say. The new mount is lower than the old one so I guess i will have to replace homemade hood mounts (gave me extra height) with standard ones. The only hard part was getting the front iangular support for the isolation mount off. Th darn bolts were damn near unaccesible had to drop the front axle. Other than my sentimental favorite Lawn Ranger L107 (my father bought her new ) I think C-175s are my favorite horse. Plenty of power and smooth with out the electrical complexity of the 418s and 520s. I have 3 now....

10 pointsPicked up a nice curio today to put my NFS items. Just thought I would share, kinda nice to pull the stuff out of hiding from boxes

10 pointsIf a person tells me the price is too high without seeing it first hand I just tell them good by and hang up. As for the no show, I always tell potential buyers I will accept the first cash in hand buyer and if they can't come now I have no intention of holding it for them unless they want to make a Paypal payment sight unseen.

6 pointsIt may be tough to make out but I added a belt support between the bottom idler pulley and the rear drive pulley to help reduce droop or slack when clutch is depressed. Then fabricated and installed the rear discs for the eventual turning brake set up.

5 pointsJust bought a k341 for my tractor off cl. Emailed the guy, one word reply. Texted him later and we texted back and forth. When I got serious to buy, I arranged a call time so we could set up a meeting. So Im talking to the guy, he tells me to call him when I hit the interstate. No problem. He texts me an address of a shopping plaza to meet him at. I call him on the way and he said the engine is not where I live. so I said okay and called him when I got to the parking lot. He said he would come by and pick me up because the place was close but in the woods. Im thinking Deliverance now with banjos playing in the background. Told my wife who's with me I may never come back. So when he called me on the way I asked him "how am I supposed to get the motor if you take me to it and I leave my truck here"? "Oh no, you just have to follow me because you will never find it by address" ......so we followed, and I see why he said that. Never would have known a house was back there. Then it started pouring down rain as he was trying to start it . Anyways, it worked out. Nice guy, got the engine(less than 50hrs on it) and made it home safe. Somethings just didnt add up and I was cautious but The Good Lord looked out for me! My wife laughed about the Deliverance thing. Says i worry too much.

5 pointsRed cultivator looks similar to one sold by Simplicity for the walking tractors. 1st pic is 1950 and 2nd is 1948 Garry

4 pointsHere are pictures of my restored Simplicity Cultivator. If yours is red, then it is probably a Montgomery Ward Cultivator. Same cultivator but Ward's equipment made by Simplicity was red in the beginning of their marketing Farm equipment. The Montgomery Ward Deluxe Heavy Duty Depth Regulator Cultivator sold for $45.50 in the 1965 Farm Catalog. Optional Hilling Blades, 12 in. Weeding Hoes, and Furrow Opener were also available to fit on the frame.

4 pointsWelcome to our world Javlin, just please don't judge an Indian by the color of his feathers if you get my drift. That's been done in our history before. Just let it go, chalk it up to experience, don't let it rattle you and move on with your sale/search and hopefully get to deal with good folk. Ther has been more than one good piece of advice from the fellas here on dealing with CL crazies BTW next time some idiot tells you you don't know squat about tell him that may well be but you got bros that do!

3 pointsSo ya this is my first post here and my first riding mower ever. I'm 32 had to get somthbig for .87 acres and came across this mower. I have been browsing offer up and other sites and see the JD's, Troy builts, Murray, and so on. I came across this while driving around. Guy let me ride it and for some reason but it just felt good. I'm into old stuff and like to tinker. Just seeing all the gauges and levers with grease points and what not made me want it. I'm sure I paid more then I should have $500 but I don't see why it can't run another 30 years. I drove it about 15min home from where I got it ahaha its a 1990 model 312-8 according to the model numbers. Hope to use this forum as a repair and maintain excellent resource. Also for modification if possible.

3 pointsYou can hook a test light across the two fuse terminals to save fuses. As long as the short exists it will light the light. Keep in mind anything else that is turned on and using power like a relay will also activate the light. Disconnect items until the light goes out. Pay attention to wires around the steering shaft below the dash. The shaft turning against a wire will wear the insulation off leaving an almost invisible bit of bare wire shorting against the shaft. Look for a flat worn area in the insulation. Garry

3 pointsHenry wanted you to know that he can run a grader too. But seriously, I can't submit all of Henry's Wheel Horse pictures to the calendar, or there would be serious danger of having to rename it to the 2018 Red Square Henry Calendar!
-
3 pointsGuy at work brought in these 3 and talked me into buying all 3 cuz I wanted the wheel horse disc. Does anyone know what the other 2 may be? Looking to sell them but don't know what brand they are?
-
3 pointsBe safe Richie. We're keeping a close eye on it because of the kids down there. It's looking ugly.

3 pointsThe gearbox is in very good condition only if you change bearings and seals

3 pointsI just went through this from the other end dealing with people trying to find a used vehicle for my daughter. You get all kinds. So many people don't respond to calls or texts when indicated in the ad. I don't understand that. Some were sold but they don't take down the ad. Drove an hour to meet one guy in a public place we agreed on to look at his vehicle and the jackwagon never showed up. I could tell more but I'll quit. The more you deal with people, the more odd things you run into. There are bad folks out there but there are good ones too. You have to weed out the bad ones, and deal with the good ones IMO.

3 pointsAftermarket all the way. I've got a great machinist and he bores/hones to my specs; slightly tighter than Kohler. This combination (after market parts and good machinist) has worked extremely well over the years and made many people happy.

3 pointsslow progress, due to Ewans RJ rebuild and other jobs. I acquired another peerless 2300 tranny which seemed ok, but split just in case... found lots of metal, a seized brake shaft bearing, two mangled seals and half a shim! I guess thats where all the metal came from - odd thing is, there wasn't a shim missing!!!! So a PO obviously had it rebuilt badly. In pulling the hubs off, I noticed JMC in the castings, so I can now conclude it rear end is from a Jacobsen. Just one more seal to replace, then it's on with the hub adapters and transfer box
-
3 pointsWell if I sell them would like to know what tractor brands they were made for.. I guess the big red one could be used on most any tractor... got the one I wanted mounted up for quick pic. Better pics to come. Here is better picture of the other 2. That big red one is sweet, easy to move around with the wheels and it's adjustable by turning the crank!!
-
3 pointsActually it's real hard to see the belt support since I posted the wrong pic. here is the right one.

2 pointsi don't know about you guys but yesterday i had a gentleman that was coming up yesterday to look at my wheel horses and said after church....... great so i waited around well nothing then i texted him and his response was not today.......now i'm a little ticked off waited around could of texted me to say something earlier in the day and had other people responding to the ads too so anyway moved to the next person played phone tag for quite some time dickering on price well for 2 tractors and snowblowers thought was going to get everything for $500.00 and told him might buy 1 and a blower but not all so he kept on about the C series wasn't worth more then $300.00 and by this time i'm getting irratated and told him forget everything were done until he got serious then insulted me telling me i know nothing about wheel horse's and so on and well just responded ...good luck then he responds ....i don't need luck ! So that told me how very conceited he was and arrogant and to top it all off he calls a MOFO if you know what i mean so i know that the number was from some where out of CT and not implying all CT folks are like this ........so anyways look out for these sore looser type i can't get it for what i offered price and you should be greatful attitude people

2 pointsI’ve enjoyed following your build. You do some excellent work. If you wanted to up the charging power, parts from a Honda gx630 will supposedly swap into the predator and get you an 18 amp (maybe it was 15?) charging system. Been awhile since I looked it all up.

2 pointsLOAR'S Wheel Horse in McConnelsville, OH. Original Receipt from when my grandpa bought his 414-8 that I now own.
-
2 pointsYup Yup Yup ! I NEVER take an offer or discus $$$ until the person is THERE looking. Learned the hard way a few too many times... Like 'Nut... I don't mean to be rude or short with people... but I've had a few occasions myself of others no-showing. I take CASH as payment. Given directly to me, in person. Fine for most of us who aren't running a bizz like Bob M. He makes sense on the paypal thing too. LOVE this story... good stuff. The way out in the woods thing though... kinda like Much of our area, eh @TravelinJavelin ? Agreed... and I also like to "feel out" by voice tone how the person is... simply can not do that by the written word of some people. When it sells it sells.... no worries. You've never lost a sale from someone who was actually serious about the purchase in the first place... only the dubbahs who were wasting your time.

2 pointsI get them off ebay. Bakt4kids is the seller. Ships fast and answers all questions by phone.

2 pointsElectric Clutches engage rather suddenly, no feathering them to start something like a tiller smoothly. I have to use an electric PTO on my old C-175 with a sweepster. (The engine is from a JD and doesn't have the thrust bearings you need for a manual PTO). I idle her down and cringe when I throw the switch...the engagement is harsh and hard on all the parts..
-
2 pointsWell maybe not a set but one this week and one next week (local Tractor Supply only had one in stock but more coming on next week's truck). They are a Hi-Run 23x10.50-12, and will be going on my C-125. Wasn't wanting to cough up the money for tires just yet, but want to get started slowly putting the 701 back together, and needed the tires and wheels that have been "temporarily" mounted on the 125 since I bought it. Anyone have any ideas for what to run on the front to go along with these beauties?
-
2 pointsI agree with the "NO TEXTING AVAILABLE" and "PHONE ONLY" being added to my CL ads. With three computers and two flip phones in my house, I don't have any need for a smart phone anyway. I've also seen too many scams coming through texts. And when they phone me, I always ask for their cell phone number so that I can confirm they are coming when they say they are. My time is too valuable to waste it on deadbeats. Most WH buyers are dependable and honest, and the bad ones are not worth getting your blood pressure up.

2 pointsI've been running the sleeved motor for years now. Runs as smooth as a new one. This is on a C-160 auto and I run it hard. Wouldn't hesitate to sleeve another one if needed.

2 pointsI use the CL email link seems the safest to me anyways . When I respond to a ad with the link it's all in how they respond back if I proceed . If I get a bite I'll tell them to give me their number and call them back on a unlisted number explaining why . I don't know you and you don't know me just protecting protecting both party's interests . I use the house phone (yep still have one) *67 then the number . If they want it bad enough they understand and I also try to meet them at public place so we both feel safe .
-
2 pointsI learned not to respond to any texts and put in my ads calls only. I also don't like when the seller has not phone numbers.

2 pointsCould not spend much time on tractor stuff today as wife invited Grandkids over to do late B'day cake day...But I was able to remove the belts supports and modify the belt cover to fit. Now I have to rig the belt supports. Probably going to mount the belt support to the tractor side and only use the cover as a cover.

1 pointI picked up my second 520 awhile back from @DeterminingFactor that had no spark. Changed out the 9 pin connector from @rmaynard as the red wire was already routed around the 9 pin. Found the coil was bad and replaced. Motor runs good and now on to the next step. PO said hydro was leaking I think I found the problem so tomorrow I will open up the hydro and replace all seals and gaskets. Plan on wet sanding all the tins and repaint, new decals will need to be ordered. Now if I could only convince @ACman to release the rights to the wheel a matic decals, other wise it may end up being the patriotic series decals. This one may take a while as still working 10hr days and Saturdays. I'll try to post as much as I can. Also picked up an Ark loader for it. Need to build subframe, new hoses and modify a few other things

1 pointI used one in the Navy when the ship was in Drydock. I hated it . It was so noise even with hearing protection on. At the end of the day my hands were numb. I still hate then because of that.

1 pointeBay does not permit PayPal "friends and family" payments directly. You must handle that type of payment outside of eBay, and directly with the seller, which is against eBay policy. In such a case, buyer protection is null and void. I have done thousands of eBay transactions, and I will only pay with PayPal and will only accept PayPal as payment, and all payments must be handled through eBay directly. Because of that, I never have any problems on eBay. I hate the fees though, but it's worth it when the whole USA is your marketplace. Craigslist, on the other hand, is not worth the risk to me.

1 pointWOW..Great! and thanks...Funny I look through those classified adds and didn't see that. That's exactly the one I need, these can be hard to find!

1 pointI bathed the red team today and to make sure I'll have very little snow removal this winter I put the blower on. If I want to wear shorts in January, I'll put the chains on.
