Recent addition to the collection has a front bracket attached. I cant' think of an attachment that this would be from. Appears too nicely made to be homemade... so I'm thinking either it was made to fit the width of a Wheel Horse frame for some kind of attachment, or its a convenient re-purpose of a part totally unrelated. Anyone know what it might be from? I'm coming up blank. @evanloock @wh500special

Posted a pic last week of my newly acquired C-195.It would only run on ether.Pulled and cleaned out the gas tank.Installed new 1/4 in. rubber fuel line and in-line filter.New fuel pump. The original must have gotten water in it and rusted up the check valves.Rebuilt the carburetor.Drained the transmission .The oil looked like a coffee shake.New WH tranny filter, new Mobil 1 synthetic 10-30 oil in the transmission..New 30 wt oil in the engine.Had 2 cracks in the fender pan.I patched those with fiberglass cloth and resin on the bottom side and installed 2 new Grote no.G4612 LED tail lights while the fender was off.Runs like a top now.Probably good for another 30 years.

My C-165. Thanks to all you guys for helping me. My carb problem seemed to be a simple fix. Just fabbed up my stack. Dam she's sexy... lol

Like the yard art. Wish there was a way to prove the PP&M Mary Travers connection, she was a wonderful singer and old f@rts like me were fans of PP&M. I would keep it as is and make a placard with the history accompanied by an album cover with her picture on it as a show display. You can't provide absolute proof, but no can disprove it so the fable of the 552 will live on.

Considering the number of problems you have encountered and the less than stellar job done by a PO it seems to me your best bet would be to remove the present wiring and replace it all. If you only fix the present gremlin another one will be lurking in the shadows ready to strike when you can least afford it. Garry has provided the drawings and the ignition pigtails, relay mounts etc can be purchased at NAPA.

That was me and my brother with the old 875 Iron Horse growing up. When we were cutting the lawn, I'm pretty sure that we went from full reverse to full forward in one motion of the handle! It is a testament to how solidly that the rear ends are built on those old tractors. I swear, sometimes I felt like I was in the burnout box at the Drag track while cutting lawn, especially if there was a little morning dew on the ground...

If it had a bit more traction it would have destroyer the acceleration valves, wheel spin is a good thing.

Cleaned the gas cap, it was a little dirty. Dropped the float bowl and it was pretty funky in there. Cleaned that good, pulled the needles and cleaned them and blasted the carb with cleaner. put it all back together, started right up, i let it run for a while, no stalling. Fingers crossed that was it. Thanks for the help gents!

So, this is a little weird.. but bare with me. I need some help to prove it. This 1962 Wheel Horse 552 came home the other day: I got it from a friend of mine who said it sat in his field for the past 7 years since it was parked. He lives in Bethel. He said he got it from his parents who brought up years before that (how many is unknown..) to haul firewood from his large yard up to the house in a home made trailer. He said they got it from the Mary Travers estate sale, and when he got it, it had a hand made custom embroidered seat, which is unique. It's long gone now, unfortunately. Mary Travers was the Mary from "Peter, Paul and Mary" the band.. who I guess was sorta famous well before I was kicking around on this planet. He said he's heard that Mary used to drive it around her yard with a garden cart behind it in her gardens at her house, wherever that was.. a quick google search turns up nothing for me, so I can't verify it. Can anyone help? The machine itself is in really nice shape, all things considered. The gas tank is clean, and the bolt holes for the hood are all intact. It's got a Tecumseh engine, which I'm no big fan of, but it spins free by hand. The transmission is dry as a bone, but it shifts through its gears OK. I was originally taking it home as a parts tractor to complete my 753, but.. with this information, I think I'll hold off on that for a bit. Heck, it's arguably in nicer condition! haha! Curious... Mike

Steve-on-aStick and I had a nice talk with Mike Martino at the Big Show about his book and how much I've seen some of those copies sell for . Super nice fellow and he signed my book too . The wife was a little apprehensive about paying that much for a book but I reassured her that it was well worth it .

What's wrong with white? Mine's antique white powder coat. Looks creamier in person.

Has a patina to match for sure. Those tubes welded in the corners might be a clue. Something simple as a flag holder or what not? Looks to heavy for that tho. Some sort of front weight carrier but the single mounting bolts would not suggest tthat. Maybe something as rare as some sort of factory prototype? Just thinkin out loud here.....

Unless the tractor is in stellar shape, upon purchase I try to rewire all tractors expeditiously as well as replace fuel lines, fuel filters and often carbs.

When I was a kid our CC 1250 was equipped with a suicide knob on the steering wheel for your for your left hand and the right hand controlled the donut stick . The church's gavel parking was the best . I just said it was for weed control .... Nice tractor by the way !

Heh! That's no rock crawler. That's just the hood of a 312 that someone gave me after they took the motor out of the poor thing to power up an Allis Chalmers. Eventually it's gonna be part of a mailbox post along with an old broke frame and a cut up fender pan I came across.. tribute to WH!

Just like Ed ....bikini and a beach ball and guess what he wants to look at! Seriously that tractor has got an awesome patina and all techys aside is a real keeper. Probably only God & Mary Travers know the truth about the story and only one is alive yet (Google says she died at the ripe old age of 72 in 2009) but still. I personally would oil that girl down and get her in good mechanical shape as best one could without messing with the patina and use it for continued garden work and of course tractor shows! Interesting weight on the front Mike we may well have to see somemore pics of that beach ba... err.... bikini!

You should use at least an 8 AWG and preferably a 6 AWG wire to the solenoid from the battery as well as from the solenoid to the starter. All wire contains a lot of "magic smoke" and using too small a wire for the load will release it!

This was one of my Dad's (Special Wheelhorse) tractors. Can anyone tell me what year and model it is?

Nice 552 and with a cool story. What's the rock crawler in the background?

I have honestly never seen that bracket before, but the quality and matching patina with the tractor is very interesting. Perhaps some allied attachment mounting bracket.

Dad is definitely getting into working on Clyde. He redid the seat and then looked at the nasty residue on the pan under the seat and decided to touch that up since he will have to fill the fuel up there on a regular basis. He cleaned out all the surface rust and crud and then laid down a thin coat of bondo to somewhat smooth some of the pitting. After that cured well, he sanded it down and then shot some primer and a couple coats of IH red... Dad is a perfectionist and so for him this isn't what he would like to see but I did remind him that this is a worker. Mom said she liked the tractor enough that he should restore it completely. I told him if he did that, he wouldn't want to plow with it! Sounds like he will be traveling through OH next month and is planning to stop by Miller and pick up a set of AG's. I can't wait to see this thing with AG's on it... A couple years ago, I arranged for dad to pick this beast up from a forum member. It is so long and heavy, it was hard to operate the lift arm on Dad's 875. However, it lifts with ease on Clyde with the Hydraulic lift. This will be the plow that we set up for this machine. My question for you guys is, "Did this plow come from the factory with the Clevis style (notice it has a second tongue under the main one) tongue?" Right now you slide the primary tongue in the slot and the lower tongue goes under it. The hitch pin slides through all three pieces. If this was factory and not owner added, why would that be on there? We will disassemble it, clean it up, make sure all the fasteners are solid and the turnbuckle and pivot points are free to adjust. The other change that we will make is to move the coulter bracket about an inch further out to the left of the beam (away from the furrow). I'm also going to get my hands on another serrated counter like I have on the Punisher (they look cool and do help cut up longer trash). Then we paint it, letter it, and put it to work!

Your tiller is a 1975 and will work on B-series through 1977, all C-series as well as 3/4/500 series. It will also work on the older Raiders, Chargers, etc.

Not sure if this is the right place for this topic, but got a vinyl cover today. Not a great fit for the C-105, but can't go wrong for $5.

I'd be very interested to see what Stoddard solvent does internally to an engine - I've seen a lot of not so genius moves , but that's a new one on me here . Worst one I've seen over the years was a college kid with a brand new Honda econo car - he put 3 gallons of Lantern Fuel in it . Now , being a fuel-injected Honda , it ran , and ran like a machine possessed - right up until it melted the pistons , valves and cylinder head . I've never seen a 4 cylinder Japanese engine run hot enough fuel to turn an overhead cam the coolest purple you've ever seen , sort of like a Harley drag bike's exhaust pipes .... He did finally admit it seemed like it had a V8 in it suddenly , I can only imagine how it ran . All the result of him being low on fuel and a Casey's gas station out of gas - the fuel truck was horribly late getting there . We washed our hands of it after the engine inspection and trailered the car to the nearest dealership . Honda actually warrantied the dumb thing - they said the fuel shouldn't have hurt it , wow . I highly doubt any car company would do that these days , his parents were very grateful and their son learned a really valuable lesson . I think the bonehead son in law may be in line to pay for a rebuild , maybe it will be a lesson learned . Sarge

I needed a way to store my mower decks and came up with this. I have a tractor with pallet forks to move it around. Wheels under it would work as well. I built the base out of 2x4's and 4x4's. Decks sit on 2x10's and I used 2x3's to locate the wheels. 2x4 uprights were put into notches cut into the 4x4's for added strength and held in with 3-1/2" lag bolts and construction adhesive. Decks are lowered into place then a ratchet strap holds it. I built mine to hold 2 48" decks and a 60" deck. 60" deck is in the middle due to it's extra weight. I will put the last 48" deck on in the late fall when I am done using it. The way the decks are held should not cause any paint damage. Cleat

The original fittings are Parker-Hannafin # 68VL 3-2. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/45214-broken-line/?do=findComment&comment=415701 The fitting included both the nipple and the cap, plus the rubber insert.

I believe this is the tractor involved. Click on the fuzzy picture. Notice there is a ground cable between the engine and the tractor frame at the bottom of the 2nd page. The wires in the cable often fail from the constant shake of the engine resulting in a poor or no engine ground condition. The engine parts list 2 pages on the kill relay Posting this for those that can offer advice. Garry

Nice looking blackhood you have there. I used to not care much for them until I bought my C-125...they are nice machines. Been working some of the bugs out of mine the past week or so. Good luck with yours

Took a much needed day off work today for my birthday (been working 14-16 hrs a day for over three weeks straight). Been having withdrawals, so went across town and roaded my C-125 over to the RV park where we are living now. Then the girlfriend and I made a trip to our local farm supply store and picked up a new seat for the old tractor. Sure looks better now and feels better on the old backside too

I thought you were feeding the solenoid with a 12 AWG. 12 will be fine there and it would be a good idea to add a 20 amp fuse to protect the rest of the wiring.

If you need the whole 3-piece fitting, don't get it from Kohler, you will pay many times more than they cost if you by them from the OEM manufacturer. The fitting is called a Vibra-Lok fitting. Made by Parker Hannifin. Part # 68VL 3-2. It comes with the male fitting, the female nut, and the rubber gasket. All for about $4.00.
