Wow thanks fellas... this was my birthday present to myself... was suppose to wait until the big 60 but figured 58 is close enough and if I keep buying I might not make it to the big 60! Like I told Dan @Achto ya only live once, ya can't take it with ya and the bank's got plenty of money! 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 Big Horn with the 6.7 L Cummings Turbo Diesel! All the power, room & amenities we need for hauling to tractor shows! The old 95 GMC I bought new in 95 was getting tired (my kid says ya know dad that truck is so old it qualifies for collector plates for it) and where ever I went was sure to have some kind of issue! Cindy is glad I like to hang on things for a long while! Will keep it for a fish & woods truck so @stevasaurus doesn't spill his cup in the Dodge! The bad news is I am two men short on a crew today so I owe I owe it's off to work I go!

There were actually numbers released for a few models over the years. The 754 was one. The number is actually 422 though. Some others are.... the 1045 model - qty 1100, 520-8 - qty 250, 420LSE - qty 200 (or 225 depending on who you talk to) The document for the 754 that Eric is speaking of quotes a run of 300.... but the count in the ledger is 422. @12 hp Kohler if it truly is a 754... yep, worth it.

If the tool does the job, and your not using it 24/7, then why pay higher prices. If you need it for a day job, it's a different matter. A good friend of mine, sadly passed on now, used to carry the cheapest set of spanners and screwdrivers under the seat in his car, he used to say, "if I break down, what good is a set of 'SnapOn' tools sitting at home when I'm broken down 100 miles away from them". " If I only use them once, they've paid for themselves!"

I'd keep it and use it. If you maintain it, it will outlast anything else you own.

I'm in the minority on this one for sure. I mow in 1st gear with my C-101 with the 42RD deck. Second is way too fast, too many back surgeries for the bumps and jolts of the higher speeds. I do wish that 1st gear was the same ratio as reverse, that would be about perfect.

In my opinion your father in laws offer isn't too far off. Personally speaking I don't think your neighbor should have gotten involved and said your father in law is low balling you. That only creates family friction. Much has to do with how you and your father in law get along.....

I cut my grass in 2nd gear with 312-8 and 42" deck. I get a better cut that way.

Your Father In Law put food on the table, cloths on your wife's back and a roof over her head for a lot of years! Here is an opportunity to thank him for that, don't screw it up!

I bought an inexpensive Northern Tool Needle scaler several years ago. I like using it on stuff too big to fit in the blast cabinet. Not the fastest process in the world I had time to think while I was working on my neighbors deck from his 856 today.. I paid 39.95 but I see ingersoll-rand has some for $175 and up. I would suppose they would last longer in industrial use but is there another advantage to having a more expensive unit?? Anyone have or get to use one at work?? . As my father said it is a poor workman who blames his tools...(He never had to use some of the junk they sell these days)...Sometimes it is nice to have a cheap tool... you can blame it instead of yourself.

My best chance at a pretty original '66 156 LR......so bam !..... I took it. Other than the rear tires and a few decals....it seems pretty original to me. The little son-of-a-buck could not run any better. Bump the starter and it purrs from idle to full throttle. I have an original complete 156 deck so that sealed it for me. I dont plan on touching the paint except for a gentle washing. I heard linseed oil might work to kind of sharpen up the paint but who knows..... Feel free to let me know what you think.......$300

@Dave1967 You can remove both from the tractor and as a temporary fix. Insert the ball back into the socket and then take a hammer and a punch and tap all around the socket to hold the ball until you can get a new tie rod.

Certainly, a restricted exhaust that is not allowing the chamber to clear is going to cause a loss of power. The exhaust is actually being compressed on the exhaust stroke and not clearing the chamber to allow the new fuel/air mixture to enter on the intake stroke. If the compression truly measured low before the rebuild and measured OK after the rebuild, the rebuild was a success. But the improvement would not have been seen until the exhaust restriction was removed. My only question of the mechanic is, when the compression was still low after staggering the ring gaps, why didn't he finish the job and do the rebuild then. I can understand him missing the restricted exhaust problem initially when he saw low compression. These engines will burn oil when they lose compression, but they will actually continue to run pretty well with low compression. Oh, to the Lenny.

At the rate he is going that will be about 1- 2 years. @WHX12 If that's what I get for my 58th I am looking forward to next year's birthday!

I found the springs this afternoon. I thought I may have to move the attachment point forward to increase the tension, but the first location was perfect. I actually have to push it down the last couple inches and it requires maybe 5lbs to lift it. Thanks for the Inspiration Jay.

Yeah, I am usually the last to know and always a day late and a dollar short. Looks like it would be an awesome auction to go to. A friend of mine told me about the auction today, I guess I should have known that it was already posted here on RS.

Hello everyone, I was wondering how many people are going to Raines action in September, it looks amazing it would prolly be pretty hard to leave with out a trailer full of horses or what ever other brands you like because they have it all there. Just wondering who all is going on here I’m sure there has to be a few of you, I live and york pa and would love to go but my parents truck can’t make the hike she is just a little to old to go on adventures like that any more ! For who ever is going I hope you get some good deals and leave with a trailer full!

IMHO... you'd soon regret selling it to anyone. Once you've used the tractor a little you WILL become addicted. Keep it...sell the other one.

60 that could come with them are extremely heavy. And the weight along with the additional torque on the frame can cause issues. But they provide a nice cut I'm told. IMO the 48" deck is the best overall compromise for speed and flexibility.

I have replaced a couple of mine with electric pumps, cost less than $ 20.00 and work great. For a faithful restoration I would stick with an OEM Kohler pump, but for a worker or play time electric is the way to go.

Recently purchased our first home! We recently purchased a new mower, and the house came with the following Wheel Horse and other equipment (i.e. cart, roto tiller, and snow plow). My father in law is offering me $1,200 for everything and he said that's a good offer, but my neighbor just asked me about it, is interested in purchasing, and says that's a low ball. Everything works awesome, with the exception of a flat tire. Is my father in law trying to take me to town? Any idea on what I should be looking for? I've included a picture of how much it's been used. Any advice is MUCH appreciated! James

Heck, that thing will probably fit in the back seat of your new truck. No need to use up trailer space to haul it along to shows.

Excellent, I see there are several good ideas here.......I drained out yellow oil, if I remember correctly 10w-30 and it was nice and clear. The prior pump had failed, still have to tear it down, maybe the internal set screw? (I wish)! I believe 10w-30 it'll be then. Thanks everybody, greatly appreciated. No flushing with kerosene for certain!

I did the same two years ago for a old Pennsylvania Panzer. My wife thought I was out of my mind and told me it in several ways. I just chuckled and said I'll be back. But I picked this thing up for $100. Guy called me and said if you can come today or tomorrow its yours. But after that it's going to scrap. So I said sure be there tomorrow and woke up to about the only storm we got that winter.
