well, some you know i lost dad on july 22nd. well i got to messing in the sheds and found something that hit me hard. i sat looking at it for a few minutes stunned about where it was. I found dads old lighter case that he carried on his belt when he smoked. he stopped smoking in like 2004. and for whatever reason the case was in the shed. no lighter in it. past couple weeks have been like a nightmare that i want to end. yea he wasnt my biological dad. but he adopted me to get me away from a dead beat.

Finding items like that when the wound is fresh can be emotional, but keep all the things that were your dads, such as the lighter case, in a box because someday it will give you great pleasure to go thru them and reminisce. Mike....

Yes make it your own especially if you intend to keep it awhile. Paint is just for looks and can be easily changed. Mechanicals can be too but to a harder degree. Only one thing to remember here good men & women have died for us so we can paint our tractors whatever color we wish! Yeah even this guy I'm afraid! ! We don't have to like it but we have to respect his right to do it! BTW we do too...lets see some of yours!

Dads are Dads, he was your father because of love, can't ask for more than that. My Dad has been gone for over thirty years but there isn't a day goes by that I don't think about him.

It's your tractor, do what you want to do with it. Some owners like to keep them as original as possible, others don't worry so much about that. Make it your own, unless you're thinking of selling it somewhere down the road. Then that might affect the selling price.

I bought a cheap made utility trailer that I will be doing some upgrades to. I purchased this trailer mainly to haul to the show. It has adequate load capacity yet is lightweight enough to pull with my wife's Highlander. The major problem is the ramp gate weight so lift assist was top priority. I have a repaired hernea that limits me to 50# so I came up with this. Simple but adequate.

We all remember and love our Moms, but we love and emulate our Dads. We honor them by copying their strengths and by forgiving their weakness. Jim

There was a movement by a certain political party to form a committee of tractor inspectors that would prohibit such behavior under the auspices of the (ATF( Alcohol, Tractors & Firearms) , but that was defeated at the last election.

You own it and we are privileged to live in the land of the free! Do your thing, if others don't appreciate it and you are bothered by that then you can always paint it again. Here is one that was at this year's "Big Show".

Just my preference and thought, if you radically alter the tractor then it's OK to radically alter the color. A restoration would include the proper color. My 2 cents.

I pick this up two days ago in New Milford Ct. Because it was cheap from a nice older Wheel Horse enthusiast. He is 75 and still going strong. He has a bunch that he is try to thin out. It was a long ride for me but The Dog and I had fun going after the B-80. The engine is a trans plant but very little score marks hardly any smoke. Should be a good plow tractor because of the HI Lo tranny. It is like Craig says You can not just have one tractor It is not allowed. I hope you enjoy the video.

Tackled the 520 Gear reduction today. This thing is going to be really stout. Upgraded to a true bulkhead bearing for support of fan gear shaft that goes to front of tractor. The excessive length of TH of steering wheel is due to 520 was too short. So I cut the gear end off and had a machinest lathe the end of a long rod. I welded gear on and will cut to length when I decide how tall I want the steering wheel to sit. I also ended up having to shorten the fan gear rod on the end that attached to front bulkhead by ~ 7/8 inch. Luckily this left enough space SK i did not have to remake this piece. Should have it on its own wheels tomorrow.

... Skipper ! I still consider myself a newbie and to still trying to figure out models from the late 60's and up . If you need a tractor find a "real" tractor. The 520H is a beast of a garden tractor (please no haters just my ) . Now I say garden tractor just because to me a "real" subcompact utility tractor is a engine bolted to a cast iron transmission which is bolted to a cast iron rear end with hydraulics and 3point . Maybe it's because my family sold Allis Chalmers AG tractors . I even considered my Kabota BX2230 to be a overgrown GT . I love my 520H but as you know they have their quirks . Wiring gremlins for one . Second the Onan engine which is a good engine but parts availability makes it expensive to work on . That however makes it a prefect candidate for a repower . Especially if you can find one cheap with a bad engine . The C195 is a beast too but seem rare as hens teeth. For a no frills workhorse a C160 hydro is probably your best bet in my opinion . You could do a 520H swept axel and steering swap for old school reliability with new school maneuverability . People here who have them seem love them . Hopefully a C160 is my next Horse . What I really like about Wheel Horse over let's say John Deere or other brands (and I've seen and worked on all kinds back in the day) is their simple design which makes them easy to work on . Also the implement and parts compatibility from the 60's-00's if you have a classic series which makes finding them a little easier at least around my neck of the woods . I own Horses from a 1958 4hp RJ to a 1995 520H and every one is tough as nails. Hopefully others will chime in with more knowledge than me. Like I said I'm still learning too and I'll take all the Horse schooling I can get .

Hi guys, I found your forum while researching my 312's problem. So I'm a "NEWBEE". I purchased my girl back in 1982 or 84. Memory issues, so don't shoot me. Anyway she's had Excellent care up until I let my "Meathead" Son in law borrow her 6 years ago. Anyway, he called me and said the tractor won't start. This was back in May I think. So Monday he brings her over and drops her off. After a few hours of TLC I cleaned most of those 6 years of dirt off her. My troubleshooting revealed a dead battery, and busted ignition switch. So both have been R & R. All battery terminals have been cleaned, ground connection cleaned, 15amp fuse R &R. My problem is I have no voltage to the lights, ignition switch doesn't engage the starter. But by jumping the solenoid the starter will engage. WhenI I test my safety switches using the test toggle switch, Nothing lights. He also has misplaced ALL of the paperwork, wiring diagrams, and manuals. So I'm looking for a wiring diagram or some ideas. As a retired Aircraft Mechanic I'm ashamedof to even post this. But, I've got myself turning circles and my brain has frozzen. Anyway the specs. Wheel Horse 312-8 ID# 2112K805, Kohler 12HP Model F12S, Spec # 471527, S/N 180700t943. I know beyond a doubt that I'm over thinking this and missed something small. Brent

I paid more than that for a clean 416H with no attachments. You got a good deal even if it costs you a few dollars in repairs. I'll take one of these over a new box store tractor any day!!

I'm running out of RS cards to hand out. We had a bunch of old guys hanging out under "The Big Coleman " a short time ago. It reminded me of Floyd's Barber Shop on Andy Griffith. I had to jump on the 701 before a political discussion broke out!

Keep them coming Mike! @WHX12 Jim it looks like Lennox actually made something worth using ! These were made in 63-64 by the Lennox furnace company . Heck I want one and I never did liked working on a Lennox . Nowadays though all brands are junk. Just like my $3000 dollar fridge that lasted a whole 1 1/2 years . Manufacter said it's out of warranty and my appliance insurance said it would be over $600 just to diagnose the problem (internal freon leak so they say) so they'd just cut me a check for $600 !

Nice video. Just got my 953 going this summer and it's my favorite horse so far. Notice I said so far. These things should come with a warning label from the surgeon general "Warning: Wheel Horses are highly adddictive. The only cure is to buy another." Wait, that doesn't make sense or does it?!

First day in the books; The site with Bruce's tractors added Cool IH some pullers feature area Keeping with tradition, Picking up a pizza on a round hood! And keeping with tradition. A pageant can't go by without me having a problem with a tractor. I got about as far a way from my spot on the 701 and it quit. I had to push it all the way back. Needle and seat will be going in tomorrow! The show dash plaque has a lever steer Economy and a roundhood on it. How cool is that!

Here is the big one There are some smaller ones that were published earlier but this one has included them. If you are dealing with a particular tractor model look for the tractor in the manuals section and a D&A file (Details and Attachments) for that model. That info came from the 1955-2000 chart. The attachment chart lists the (1) original attachment that was available at the time, (2) the attachment that replaced the original (3) and the attachment that was available when the chart was developed. What is missing in the chart are the attachments that were available between the last two.

As was said above, if you are looking at resale I recommend keeping as close to original as possible. If you plan on keeping it, build it the way you want it and paint it to your tastes. At the end of the day, it's your machine and as long as you like it that's what's most important. I have seen some really odd looking modifications and paint jobs through the years. However, I've seen others that made me think, "why didn't they paint 'em like that from the factory?" BTW--- my recommendation is tha you become a supporter of the forum so you can post a lot of and start a thread in the restorations section so we can follow and enjoy your journey too!!!
