So I talked to this gentlemen back in fall of 2016 and he wanted $800+ for this tractor. I talked him down to $450 as the 16 horse engine needed a new spark module. Then found my 520h and 312-8 and forgot about this one. So I was browsing CL yesterday and saw this 1993 416-8 for sale again... $250 with a nice 48" deck! Boom! Took it home at noon today! It has 662hrs in it. Has matching deck both with numbers. The engine sound tight and powerful. No smoking and only noise sounds like lifters and thats barely noticeable. Clean cylinder heat sinks from what I can see. The deck is a SD 48" and super quiet and still has some red on the bottom in spots. Photos.

This August 24th I will be having an auction at my home in Garrettsville, Ohio at 5pm. I am selling a lot of my tools that I am no longer gong to be able to use. I'm also downsizing my collection of tractors from four to two I will be selling my C85 with the transplanted Oh140 Tecumseh and my 68 Commando 8. The Commando is torn down and has been power washed in preparation for a restoration that I am unable to complete. I have everything for this tractor The C85 has a snow plow on it and will be sold as a unit. I also have some decks for this and other models. Some are complete and some are shells that need finished. I know most of you can't possibly attend but I thought I would post this for those members in the area and anyone who would like to come. If you do come I would be most pleased to meet any or all of you. I will be easily identifiable as I will be the guy crying his eyes out on the sidelines. Ha ha, just kidding folks. I will admit that it's going to be a sad day for me but I recognize that it's time to let go. I hope some of you can attend. It would be nice to meet some more members. Thanks for your kind attention. ( Sorry for posting this in the wrong section. I forgot where I was when the light bulb came on to post this)

It' not , but my next door neighbor invited me to the Grand Opening of his newly acquired garage. He is a collector of anything auto and old. The back half of his building is rented to a working repair/restoration shop....UK Motors. A couple visitors arrived in some cool rides. A Chevy with 28K miles and original paint.

Slot hitches are a bit hard to come by this side of the pond. I have one, but a couple of others would be handy. So Chris Sutton and I thought it would be a good idea to make two each, while I was staying with him on my annual trip down south. Last year we knocked up a couple of belly graders/ I decided to make a jig for when welding parts up. At the back of the bench, a piece of cast iron machined channel had been residing for years. Just the right size to fit inside the original slot hitch. A piece of plate and some bits of pipe and I had this. Apologies for the fuzzy photo. The crap welding is due to trying out a gasless mig welder for the first time. I told Chris I would get the steel and take it down with me. This was when I started to get carried away a bit. I decided to make a prototype. First I made some bosses for the hitch pin to fit through. Several pieces of cardboard cut outs were made to get the shape and angle of the sides, then I cut out some plate for the sides. Next thing was to get the bend on the side plates. I don't have a hydraulic press but I do have a pipe bender. With a 3/4" former mounted vertically instead of horizontal, with scribe lines on the centre and a line scribed on the plates where I wanted them bent, they turned out grand. I didn't take photo's of this, but I will while making the next ones. Plates cut for top and bottom of the slot, with a scrap slitting disc each side of the jig to give clearance inside the slot, things were tack welded. The assembly was removed from the jig, welded up and the result is below. I test fitted it to one of my horses and was pleased with the result. I then got carried away again and prime painted it. The eagle eyed of you will notice there is no lift arm. So flush with success I proceeded to set to on the other bits for the next three. Photo of two of side plates and two top and bottom of slot plates. Plates roughed out to fit bosses. 40mm black bar machined down and drilled out ready to make two bosses each. Plates finished off.

Looks like a nice place. Id love to have just a small bay of that. I didn't see a morris minor but that Nash metropolitan would make a killer hot rod

I picked up a well used 753 earlier this summer and it came with some implements. I thought I overpaid but it didn't smoke and runs great . It also came with front plow, rear plough, disc, cart , part of a lawn sweeper . I thought that most of the extras weren't WH bought after some investigation I was wrong . Turns out the disc is a WH after seeing one at the show and finding a similar one from a old ad (in my new signed book "Straight From the Horses Mouth") . The sweeper turned out to a rear wheel driving . It basically a parts piece as part of the casting is broken but the mounting hardware , drive assembly and broom are good . Missing the catcher too . While going through the the book I came across some pics of some carts from a add from 1955 same as my disc . I thought they both where home made but as I dig deeper I'm thinking I could be WH too . What your thoughts . Sorry I couldn't get better pics of the cart . It's not the exact match but I'm still investigating .

What caliber pistol were you using to get it for $250.00 ?

As with many things, opinions on leaving our horses in "patina" or refurbing can run heated in both directions I thought maybe showing a pic of what a 1054 can look like in something other that "patina" -- this is mine in its "after" appearance. And, no it isnt back to specs/original, its just had a thorough rework and some nice paint. So can you guess how I like my horses

Well I got a good start on putting the gear reduction steering off a 520 H on my C-195. 😆

Hi all, I have made some progress, I have removed all the rust, and painted the Horse The quality of finish isn't too bad and I have added the decals. She needs the seat recovering and some engine/electrical work, and the wheels painting- once that is done I will upload a video. But for now, here is a pic!

I'm adding some small touches too, wont say yet, but ill post slowly on the rebuild, im getting 2 more horses in August, but after getting them putting on back burner for now, a SK486 which i'm gonna trade, its mint, just needs a wax & buff & a C161 i think it is, another just a good buffing, the 1054 has my full attention at the moment . We are gonna use it in the garden, with the Hydraulic Lift i can work sum nice rows in the garden with it, so it will pull some chores

1961-63 usually fenderless but fenders were an option, 7 hp Kohler, belt driven clutch to shaft to transmission, that's what I grew up on ,dad bought his in 1976-77 and has had it ever since , first 2 pics of a nicely restored version then ours that's still mowing/working with a newer style K181 gear drive starter and padded seat, Jeff.

I'm sorry that you are feeling challenged by someone telling you to heed the advice that has been given. To be blunt here your electrical problem is very easy for any average person to solve without any outside help. You come to the forum complaining about your Wheel Horse problem and troubleshooting solutions or help guidance is given. Instead of answering hey thanks guys I will try what you have suggested you question the advice and guidance given. Personally I view your response several ways. Either your here to Troll and don't really have a problem but instead seek to start trouble or your a simpleton who isn't capable of following simple suggestions. Friend , I have a number of degrees in several different fields. Others here are extremely qualified and possess extremely good troubleshooting skills and abilities. The fact that they are willing to share their experience says several things. They are intelligent caring people that devote their time so that they can help others in need. The way I see it is you can accept their experience and knowledge and reap the benefits of their time and knowledge or you can challenge the answers given and possible have the longest running thread on the forum with you still not having a running functional machine. The solution as I see it is either follow the advice that has been freely given or tackle the problem yourself with additional money and time spent throwing unneeded parts at it trying to arrive at a solution on your own.

Yesterday I was overseeing a whole house generator installation for a friend. This lady, along with her late husband, made it possible for my ‘B’-160 that I bought new to come back to me. Most of you know the scoop on that. I was over there the better part of the day and swapped out a couple light fixtures as the generator installation progressed. Early in the afternoon she said “I’ve got something else you’re going to want”. We walked out to the garage and she moved a few things to uncover this: I’ve been looking for a trailer like this but really didn’t think I’d find one especially in this shape. Zero rust and pitting and just a little bit of a repair on the rear lip. I offered to pay for it but she just said I could have it. It’s not the original paint so I’ll give it a fresh coat and correct the wheel color. I’m also thinking truck bed coating would be nice in the bed. The grandkids will love riding around in this.

Yeah, I had a 62 that I bought in 1969 and then traded in on a new 1989 312-8....Wish I had bought the 312 outright and kept the cub too....it was a great machine with no frills....

Just my opinion here ---- Having read your descriptions and seen the pics of the engine, I would got to ebay and choose one of the - very inexpensive - 'rebuild' kits. (there are MANY of them) My guess is that you have some slight wear on your existing rod, with the crank being OK (steel against aluminum). and a new rod would correct that, and you would have the benefit of getting the piston/rings along with gaskets, etc. I have used several of the kits and found them to be perfectly good...

I got the pto mounting bracket modified. I had to reverse the pulleys to line up to the pto pulley and the rear idler pulley. Everything is tack welded in place.

Made one final change to complete this beast..... I didn't have the stock "removable" side grille for this tractor and they are hard to come-by so..... I made a removable extension parted from an old broken grille I had in my stash. Think it came out workable.... leave to your discretion.....? cheers

Just picked this beast up. $60 was a steal in my mind. Motor runs great but I think there some other issues with the rest. But either way I atleast got a good running K141.

The easiest and quickest way to bolt up a four bolt Wheel Horse transmission to the frame of your tractor is to make yourself two 3/8 studs to set in the top two holes of the transmission (side that bolts into frame) . The studs protrude enough to align the frame on the transmission. Bolt up your bottom bolts then remove the studs one at a time , replacing with the other two 3/8 transmission bolts and lock washers.

I lean towards shiny. But I think they should be used too. It's easy to avoid using them if you put a ton of work into it. But you do get style points too:-)

Jim, that is a sad day we will all have to face sooner or later. I know I already have too many toys, but can't resist picking up another 953 when I find one. Too far away for me but hope to be able to meet you some day.

I think I need to get drunk That's not the first time there's been dueling part lists and numbers. The 3627 is the one for my 400. It measures 13" x 7.25". How about somebody measuring theirs. I always thought the only difference between the 60 and 61 guards is that the 60 just has one stiffening ridge and the 61 has crossed ridges.

If that is the case, why do my chains scratch up the driveway? Chains will help with ags, but probably will work better with turf tires. But if you aren't in the mood to buy new tires, they do help, but they will scratch up the driveway if you spin

It's not your fault gulftane. It's just one of those things that happen sometimes. I can repair the tractors and the trailer and will be right back up there next year and will always have the satisfaction I was able to help a friend.

Thanks guys for all the information!! I've decided to buy the loader; I've been looking for awhile now and do to the fact the the WH are hard to find and all the ones I call about are sold. I'm just going to retro fit this. I'm going to try to post the project on RS!! To possibly help the next guy... thanks

Just my ... If the 516H has wiring gremlins (as do the 520H's) and is burning oil I'd stay away . Onans are expensive to rebuild and the 16hp doesn't share some of the same parts as the 18/20hp engines . Just keep looking for a deck or a hydro tractor with deck.

Although GhostRider is a working tractor I still like to have him looking good while doing it. The one major ugly thing was the rusty brown muffler. So, I decided to paint one up for him, dads 953, and Blackbeard at the same time. I used the ultra high heat paint and then followed the break in instructions which included lots of idling! Since I had the big "work" horses together--I took some pics... Gotta love those "Big Wheels" My little photo bombs! (I love these guys!!!) Next up for GhostRider is to get those rear wheels painted. The off white doesn't work well with the rest of the paint scheme! Once I have that done, I want to fabricate a heavier hitch assembly, install some more chrome fasteners here and there for accents and this dude is ready to go!
