10 pointsHi guys my name is Zac, I'm new to the forum and currently restoring my first Wheel Horse, I believe it is one of the late RJ models, (RJ-58 or 59) the serial tag is missing so I'm not sure (let me know what you think). Before it was given to me it was my great grandfather's and he was the original owner and he died before he could restore it, my grandmother had someone els work on the tractor but they lost most of the parts one the engine and never finished the job, thankfully didn't touch the rest of the tractor and she gave it to me and I am restoring it for her. The engine like I said was missing parts like the serial tag and flywheel guard and recoil and I can't tell what kind of engine it is, I know an original engine for a 58 or 59 is a Kohler K90 or Clinton B-1290 or the 498 Clinton, but my engine look nothing like either engines, the crankcase is a different style, I looked at other engines that came on Wheel Horses and I think it looks like a Lauson/Tecumseh H55B or D, take a look at the photos and if you can verify the model it would be great, it's probably not original so I am looking for an original Kohler or Clinton engine and if you have any suggestions on where to get one please let me know, Thanks for looking!

9 pointsI just got this 74 D-180 for $450. Seems to run good, needs choke lever, pto belt, gas tank is a cobble-job, hydros seem to work. Just wanted to see what you folks thought. What would you pay? Also where can I find a front end loader? They seem hard to come by. Sorry for cut-off pics....I didn't take them!

8 pointsBelieved to be a 67 LawnRanger . This is part of the treo of tractors the cuz and I purchased on the phone unseen while we were on our way to the Big Show . It sat in a garage for at least 20yrs before it was pulled out . Just the way we like them . Cuz did really good on this one . One repaint , no rips or tears in seat , though there's a ring in the seat . Other than the paint it looks to be a all original tractor . It started on the first pull when the cuz got it out for pics ... !!!

6 pointsHello all red square people. I have just purchased my first wheel horse. It is a 520xi year 1999. It is a very clean unit with good paint and functions fine. I bought it from a gentleman who no longer needed it. The hour meter works and reads 12xx hours. I got a 59 inch mower deck, snow/dozer blade and a mid mount grader blade with it. The original owner had all the manuals and service tickets with it. I paid 2200 dollars for it. I bought it for a house and 7 acres my wife and I recently purchased. The house is over a 100 years old and stood in the middle of pastures but has since been over taken by blackberry bushes. My huskvarna was getting it's butt kicked everytime I tried to knock those blackberries down. I am hoping I can mow quicker, clear those blackberries and smooth out that old rough pasture. I will be looking for a tiller as I like to garden and have lots of room to plant in. I will post pics tomorrow for all to see.

5 pointsI use after market I see no difference except cost, but it's your money. The Machine pulling a plow for 3 consecutive years and no issues built with aftermarket piston and rings.
-
5 points@AMC RULES You'll have to pry this one outta this little ones hands ! She isn't so innocent ! Don't let that cute little face fool you . She tried running off with my 1057 when nobody was looking The stink eye ...
-
5 pointsThat video is cool Tom ...every time I watch it I think ooooh Dan just a little more on that pass! You can see where he is trying to hook the tails to try and pull it a little tighter!
-
5 pointsDan has a knack for snagging those classic photos (my favorite so far is of Zach and I plowing on GhostRider at Symco last year) I love this one of Jim, Zach, and Steve on a Steeek! I showed that to Zach tonight and he thought that was super cool! I certainly enjoy the tractors but its you guys (the people) that really make an event like this! I've met some of the neatest folks in his hobby and I've only been into it for about 6 years. Next year I'm gonna plan to take more time hanging out and maybe even stay overnight--the boys love to camp!!!!
-
5 pointsOK....OK...I'll sit on that green tractor . That's some attention to detail
-
4 pointsI have a 5 x 8 all aluminum trailer with built in ramp. ATC ( Aluminum Trailer Co. brand) . Hauls easily and can mount quickly on hitch.
-
4 pointsFrom a few days ago: Added hydraulic lift cylinder to my short frame big block project. Only had to swap out the rockshaft (3 bolts and two clips), trim the clutch pedal and slide it all together. Have a lead on a complete tractor with the mower deck needed to really get cracking on this and help finalize the new front end placement / height. I also need to send the lift arm out our wheelhorseman1000 and have it fixed along with ordering a bunch of other parts from him too
-
4 pointsThis a 1999 Sure-Trac, factory built trailer my brother and I purchased from a local Orscheln farm store. I built the sides for it from pressure treated lumber. It lives in my Dad's barn so it has stayed in good shape.
-
4 points$ 450 for ab running, driving "D" with a Kohler Twin and a 3 Point lift, that is a great deal!
-
4 pointsOh my those are great guys @PeacemakerJack has got the nicest well behaved kids a guy could imagine! No wonder her puts them on such nice tractors. WHY did not one of us come home with or even get pics of that cool 100 Dollar Landmark 26 Dan?!?!
-
4 pointsI was able to get a pic of @Shynon doing the chain pile. Showing us how it's done with a gear jammer. This rat rod Suburban with the massive pipes looked pretty cool. As much as I like Wheel Horse's, I like to get pic's of customs and tractors that I don't see a lot of. I'll start with this custom built Oliver 2255. The detail on this tractor was incredible. This Amigo caught my eye. While they have steering brakes, it does not have a clutch of any kinda. Instead it has a shuttle shift trans. This is the only Economy on tracks that I have ever seen. Not sure if it was built buy them, but it was branded & sold buy them. This Gravely built by Studebaker caught my eye. The fiberglass body gives it a 1950's space age look. I'm not exactly sure what this is, but I sure liked the dune buggy look. One of my McLean's relatives was even there. This is a McLean Big Wheel. Single rear wheel drive with one speed forward and no reverse. Oh yea, & what did this company have against brakes?!? That's right no brakes on these things either, must have been where the engineering or money ran out. "Steve on a stick" photo bombing another pic. Sure missed ya @stevasaurus, hopefully you'll be able to make a few more shows next year. I used to miss this show do to a traditional family vacation. I had such a great time at the show that I think it's time for a new tradition.

3 pointsFolks, I know this is an older thread but I wanted to put in a few words... I'm a CDL trucker here in Maine. ALL STATES have requirements set by the DOT we all have to follow.... Defaulted to the Federal Regs. There are a few common sense but also required things I can add here. Rope and bungies or stretch fasteners of any type are NOT LEGAL to use to tie town cargo in ANY STATE. All portions of equipment loads (here in Maine) MUST use a minimum of 2 appropriate straps or chains PER piece of equipment. Working Load Limit Shall be visibly imprinted on a tag or the strap/chain itself. You Must stop and check/tighten all straps/chains once within the first 50 miles and then at certain intervals throughout your trip. ( mileage varies per state ) If you ever think about whether or not you need another strap... Put it on. No DOT cop would be to awfully upset you did that. Please be safe and take your time...

3 pointsUh oh, my wife tells me the Ranger is cuter.... Silly me! How could I have forgotten the pictures!
-
3 pointsIt does have the magneto ignition. Before assuming the mag is bad, clean the points. They're probably oxidized from setting.

3 pointsWell, it's back there somewhere, but the blade hides the C-141 So here it is on the trailer for $200 So then I took off the engine tins to find very loose head bolts.. Might need some help with this one
-
3 pointsit took , what, almost 30 years, but the old girl finally blew her muffler apart. too rusty thin to fix. grab some 16 gauge, a little research on high performance muffler systems and viola, this happened. rectangular design actually looks pretty good, a bit modern even. sound chambered and fitted rock wool got rid of all high and most mid range frequencies and left a nice throaty rumble.(well, what throaty rumble is possible from one cylinder) the neighbor even likes it, he has one of them new yeller ones that sounds more like a chainsaw than a mower. header tape keeps the hood nice and really cuts on heat radiated back to the engine.

3 pointsI would think so with some custom work of course. I have heard of guys using 520 swept front ends for all kinds of custom work. If you do take a crack at it BTW
-
3 pointsAlways like to hear of a that has been passed down through the generations in a family. If you post a "Wanted: ad in the classified section on here you might be able to find a K-90 or B-1290. As for the engine you have I am not sure what it is, but it wasn't unusual for replacement engines to be placed in service to keep the horse running. Glad to see you will be showing it a little love.

2 pointsMy good friend @squonk (Mike) mailed me an envelope after the Big Show...contents unknown at the time. He kept asking me if I had received it. I had not. We checked the address for errors...all good. Mike said that he had mailed it about 10 days ago...he could have mailed it by Pony Express and I would have gotten it sooner. We were just about to give up, and I got the envelope in the mail today. Just wanted to let everyone know that the Post Office is still tops on my list. You have to check out the plastic bag that the envelope came in. I want to thank Mike and everyone else at the show for making me feel like I was there this year...including Howard @857 horse . Thank You

2 pointsit will pull a lot more than it is capable of stopping, be careful!

2 pointsI recently added a 520H steering to my '82 C195. I used the C195 axle with 520H spindles, tie rods (had to be shortened [shortened out of the middle because of left and right thread]). Steering shaft from 520H (had to be shortened to fit) and the vertical shaft from the 520H. The gear box will bolt to the frame(will need to drill two holes) if you get the horizontal shaft the correct length. Measure 2x cut once. Good luck Edwroy

2 pointsHere are the piccs It is pretty difficult to tell, but there is a great deal of shine left to the paint. After sanding the hood down with 600 and 800, I sprayed some Rustoleum 2x clear over it and it bloomed a sort of white translucent color. I sanded that some more and now nearly all the little blems are nice and flat. I tested some lacquer in an inconspicous spot and the results are sort of a pleasing dark cherry red with clarity and depth that celebrates the patina on the top of the hood and seat pan. Pictures do not give it justice I am gonna try the same thing on the raider10 with its quick rattle can touch up by the previous owner. I have a 1057 roller for practice that might proove whether or not i am on the right track with this. Even though this tractor will probably be a re-bore the results will probably be worth the money. The pusher blade might nearly pay for the rebuild It still needs to run by some means to test the transmission.

2 pointsAfter burning up 4 lights I finally got my led lights worked out. Just need to build the bracket. I think these will be bright enough. Don't pay any attention to my clutter just note the light.

2 pointsIf I were to bring a plow tractor, should it be the 857 with the 13hp Robin and 8 speed, or the B80 with the 16ho Kohler and 8 speed?
-
2 pointsHorse's are most certainly allowed, I know of at least 7 other that will be there. If you wish, you can do a little plowing. Here's a pic from last year.

2 pointsOver the past few months I have been working on the gearbox slowly but I am pleased to say that it is all back together now and working great. First job was to make new bushes for the axle. when I got the RJ there was a sprocket welded on the input shaft and it was a little mangled so we came up with a method to clamp the gear in the lathe and turned it down so we could use a taper lock pulley one size below what it was. All of the gears and the 3 pieces that make up the casing were cleaned up to make them free of rust, extra holes have also been welded up. New gaskets were made and then it was all assembled.
-
2 pointsBefore I learned about the roller chain trick or considered rib type tires I put Carlisle Snow Hog tires on my rig. I think these other snow tire solutions are as good or better than doing this, but this works pretty good in helping it to steer in snow. C-85
-
2 pointsI already have a Ranger, and it gets a lot of seat time. It is a very handy little machine.
-
2 pointsI would choose the 656. One because the paint is better, two because it's a garden tractor not a lawn tractor, and three because it is more rare. That's why I think that the 656 is better. Carb work and tires should be easy fixes too and in my opinion the 656 looks a lot better
-
2 points24x12x12 Carlisle turf masters on 12" x10" wheels. I wouldn't think you would want to blow them out another 2". These sit just perfect on the rims. Not sure what tires you have, just an example
-
2 pointsWrap the center of the front tires with #40 roller chain. Put them on tight with the tire deflated, then air them up and steer like it's on rails. Buy a 10ft length and an extra master link for about $20 or so. Don't use bicycle chain because it tends to roll on the tire.

2 pointsYou are so very welcome. Lost my dad last year on fathers day. He had not known who I was for the past 2 years. Mom was able to keep him home to the end though. Thank God for hospice they were wonderful. There is nothing anyone can say at a time like this to ease your pain but just know that we all care. Many of us have gone through similar situations and understand totally what you are going through. Prayers tonight for you, your dad and your family.
-
2 pointsYour right Jim, we should've at least gotten a pic of that tractor, I did see it leaving for a new home.
-
2 points@AchtoThanks for the great pictures of the unusual tractors. First I ever saw any of the ones you captured.

2 pointsIt's about time! ( It's about space) ! I would check that envelope for Ruskie fingerprints.🇱🇮 My guess the envelope got damaged and they put it in the doggie bag. Next time I'll use a padded envelope. And your welcome Steve! I only wish I could have gone out and gotten you!

2 pointsThis is 1966 Reo 4hp tecky 32" cut. I found this unit at a WheelHorse dealer who bought the remaining inventory of another WH dealer. They informed me that it was N.O.S. And never sold by the previous dealer. Of course I didn't believe it until they got a forklift and got it down off the rack it was on. The guy flipped it on its side and sure enough, it looked brand new. Never even had gas in it he said!!! The surface rust on the top is just from moisture and condensation build up. I bought it immediately! Brought it home, put some gas in it and wah-lah I'm mowin grass.( Only a little though because I didn't want to damage the paint underneath!!) I probably have only put no more than two hours on it in the 15 or so years I've had it, just driving it around. I brought it to the big show once or twice and everybody I talked to said the same thing, they've seen Reo's with the steering wheel but not tiller steer. So this makes me wonder just how rare is this little gem?
-
2 pointsDes, I resently bought this trailer to carry my Wheelhorse tractors , sadly just big enough for one tractor but is very handy as it's has the loading ramp at the rear that folds down, that's my Trojan on the back at the moment
-
2 pointsThanks for sharing! A while back in Granby Ma at the tractor pulls (for fun only), a couple guys were pulling with RJs. It was only a weighted boat type sled but they could drag 600 lbs + across the ground. Kind of impressive for a 4hp engine. At the same pull Crazywheelhorseman (Wayne) was out pulling the large farm tractors with his belt driven Wheel Horse. Some guys were a little pissed because they were being beat by what they considered to be "just a lawn mower".

1 pointGlad you got it , the post office strikes again. Two years ago I purchased a part for my plow from a Red square member and he shipped by our friends at the post office. The package was misplaced and ended somewhere in Baltimore ( I think) , anyway it took almost a month to get to me. You don't want to know the condition of the box . Glad Mike did not mail you "Steve on a stick " , he would have ended up in the ER. I see from the Portage pictures that Steve on a stick will travel long distances for a meal.
