I just wanted to take a picture(s) of my newest tractor, and my largest, next to my smallest tractor. So below is my 1947 Farmall Cub alongside the 1961 551 Wheel Horse.

I am usually in Delaware with the Sons on July 4, but this year they were in a NY baseball tournament, so I was able to attend the local stay at home holiday in Red Lion, Pa. So, I loaded some horses and joined the show. They had quite an assortment of old iron. The Kids are not allowed to touch the cars with the high priced paint jobs, they were all over my li'l red tractors with the rattle can paint. My next door neighbor won first place in his division with his T Ford. This '48 Plymouth coupe was my favorite. Then I got home in time to see the big green machine cutting the wheat. While I picked a few crabs left from Sundays catch. Hope all my Wheel Horse Friends enjoyed their Holiday.

Purchased this Planet Jr tractor wrench at a local flea market for $3. While changing oil on my Wheel Horse 10 HP I noticed the wrench was the same size as the top of the dipstick. Thought it was kinda cool, so now it's in my Wheel Horse tool kit. Check it out!

They should just say the mower won't last till the first oil change. So don't worry about it. Lol

I think my neighbor invented that system for mower maintenance...

The problem isn't that they're on the market , the problem is people are buying them

Must be an oil burner, thus just add fresh oil. Maybe I could sell a few oil burners as new technology add oil only

I'm not hearing too many here but we'll see this evening. In Florida it was like what I imagine is a war zone with the public displays and folks all around the lake setting them off. It may sound goofy but I would watch and listen to them by the pool and be thankful. Far too many people around the world hear that every day but it's not fireworks and how scary it must be for them. It makes me all the more thankful that I was born and raised in this country.

Thanks for sharing! A while back in Granby Ma at the tractor pulls (for fun only), a couple guys were pulling with RJs. It was only a weighted boat type sled but they could drag 600 lbs + across the ground. Kind of impressive for a 4hp engine. At the same pull Crazywheelhorseman (Wayne) was out pulling the large farm tractors with his belt driven Wheel Horse. Some guys were a little pissed because they were being beat by what they considered to be "just a lawn mower".

This is my $100 Facebook Marketplace find.. Needs deck welded in a few spot.. Nothing that can't be easily fixed.. It also shuts down on me.. Battery light comes on and off which I read is common.. The shutting down has me baffled.. Previous Owner said he couldn't keep it running, got flustered and told me, "COME GET IT FOR $100" Was a 6.5hr round trip but I believe well worth it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance

So I got some free labor this week. My son and his fiancé visited. So wash and wax and then I prepped the interior. Dealer Binder followed by white on the walls and this morning I sprayed Upol Raptor on the floor and ~ 7.5 inches up the sides. For anyone considering this particular product, I bought 8 quarts. Mixed in just shy of 1/2 cup of sand for texture in each quart. It's a bit thin in a couple spots so the ideal for this size trailer would be 9 quarts and 10 would allow pretty thick coat. Also, it calls for complete cleaning of the sprayer with Acetone after each quart. I found this to be necessary. Texture is great. Time will tell if it will hold up but I believe it will be very durable. The sealer/binder coat is a necessity.

The 1/2" plate idea didn't pan out so well due to the mounting bolt pattern. So after a little digging in the metal rack and came up with this. Let me know if you see something you think won't hold up. All welded up. Final resting place. Just needs bolted down.

Well.... at 3600 rpm my truck is going ~110 mph. 10,000 divided by 110 equals ~90 hours. Average guy uses push mower 2 hrs a week and maybe 16 weeks a year so IF the mower has synthetic your looking at a 3 yr change interval. Now factor in that mower runs hot, works hard, has small oil capacity and maybe changing oil every 2 years is ok again IF its synthetic. Pour in regular dino oil and im back to thinking once a year for ~$5 isnt a bad deal. Or maybe im all wrong in my thinking and should run mower for 5 yrs and toss in dump. 😕

Sure, kinda guarantees you'll be back...don't you think?

The low oil switch is in the starter circuit. Interrupts the power to the starter solenoid when the oil is low. Wondering if the fuel pump is bad. The fuel tank is lower than the carburetor and even lower when trying to drive up a hill. Garry

Since Iowa legalized fireworks there has been a constant never ending bombardment of fireworks everyday. Last night is was totally off the wall with a non-stop effort that lasted well past 12:00PM. I'm not against fireworks within reason. They are by law regulated to a few days around the 4th. This has however been unenforced and totally abused. I believe there should be hours of the day or night that fireworks can be used/enjoyed and that isn't from 10:30 PM on. Last night was totally unbarable for our two German Shepherds neither of which would go outside for a pee when all this was going on. Having had/enjoyed the company of German Shepherds for 40+ years I've never owned one that enjoyed the boom from the big shells that were going into the air last night.

When designed to last only a couple of seasons, why would any throw away mower manufacturer NOT market the stupidity of it as a "plus"? People think that way now so the marketers are simply selling them on the concept that their throw away mentality is actually a selling point of the mower they are about to buy. Sad...

If they would let you pull in reverse it would probably make a full pull!

    I had a 73 Vega like that. A qt of Quaker City @ .48 cents every100 miles!

If this stuff can last a year in a car, it ought to last a lifetime in a mower. Maybe this is what they are using. Having said that, I don't care what they say, I'm changing my oil in my Tacoma every 7500 miles like the manufacturer tells me. And I wouldn't worry about a Craftsman mower not making it to the end of their warranty, Sears isn't going to make it that long themselves.

A flange bearing for the auger shaft can be used as well if you can't fabricate the spacer. But you would still need to drill holes in the side plates. http://www.surpluscenter.com/Power-Transmission/Bearings/Flange-Mount-Bearings/3-4-4-BOLT-FLANGE-BEARING-1-204-12-4.axd Those original bushings suck and are expensive for what they are

I don't mind them around the 4th, as long as people don't do anything (too) dumb. Where we lived a few years ago, though, there were a few folks who set off big ones year-round, two or three nights a week. I was backing a trailer into the driveway in the evening during move-in, trying to listen to my spotter over bang -- bang -- bang -- bang -- BOOM! And it never stopped. Watching a movie in the evening... suddenly can't hear it over the fireworks. Go to sleep, wake up after midnight to fireworks. Fireworks on Mother's Day. Fireworks on Halloween. Fireworks for Christmas. And this was in an area that was considered a desirable, middle to upper-class suburb. Homeowners' Associations and all that... Sheesh! Where we moved to has a reputation for being a really good up-and coming real estate value, if you don't mind that a big portion of it can best be described as the sort where "Hold my beer and watch this!" is the normal state of things. But, surprisingly, fireworks aren't part of the mix except around the 4th, and sometimes a few on Memorial Day weekend, but not much ever any time else. Whod'a thunk it? Our cats don't like it if the fireworks get too intense. They don't get startled much, just mad. They'll go from one window to the next, like they're scouting for something to kill. Probably because they were feral kittens that we raised, and they know the loud noise will scare off the birds and critters that they'd really like to go hunt. For the last two nights, they've stationed themselves on the foot of our bed, like they were guarding my wife and me. Kind of had to sleep, not because of noise from fireworks, but because of two really big cats taking up a third of the bed!

I'm not trying to be a kill joy. I do think that some common courtesy would be nice. Animals get scared and don't understand the constant non-stop fireworks. When an animal is terrified too terified to go outside to pee it upsets me. the best is yet to come today. I wish they would limit the times and people would stick to the times. Good points Bob. I'm thankful for the Freedom here in this country and the ability to freely express my opinion and to those that have served and or given their lives so that others can enjoy this freedom that we do prize so highly.

Another reason I like this motor other than the deep oil sump is the drain plug is on the bottom.

The guy kept it in his shed and ran it twice a year. I really look forward to having this tractor.

I want to tell you about an amazing product that very few people know about, since it isn't widely publicized for trailers anymore. It is called BED RUG. It looks just like indoor/outdoor carpet, but it is actually made our of plastic fibers. You can wash it and water will not go through it. You can also vacuum or sweep it. It is resistant to fuel and oil. Today they only make molded pickup truck molded bed rugs, but if you call them, they will sell you off the roll. It comes six feet wide with a minimum order of ten feet in length. I just did my trailer this year and I absolutely love it. I use my trailer to haul tractors, sleep at the show, haul mulch, dirt, furniture, etc. It cleans like new each time you hose it down. I even did the ramp door because it repels water, has great traction, and is super durable. You mount it with a spray adhesive available from them or Home Depot. They also have aluminum covers for edging if needed. I went half way up my walls as well as the floor. It is a dark gray/black color. I believe it costs about $10 a linear foot. Here is a link. http://www.bedrug.com/products/bed-mats.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjw-ezKBRCGwqyK0rHzmvkBEiQAu-_-LCqJprtgdt3myQH_gpXnkHTR3i8xoxhTPWIrdv_0BWcaAsGc8P8HAQ You won't be disappointed!

My Wife and I bought our Son in law/ Grandson(who is 4, and loves Papa's 314-8) a 265H toro/Wheel horse tractor with a 38" side discharge mower with bagger for their new house. I paid $100 for it. It has 900 plus hours on it. The tractor wouldn't start when we bought it and found the rod was broken. Week One: Replace engine with same 15HP I had in a Husqvarna LTH15. Changed oil, filter and air filter (Kohler parts) and it was up and running. Took tractor for a spin and realized something was wrong with steering. Week two: Replaced wheel bearings and center axle pivot pin. Much better steering! Mowed lawn and realized mower deck made lots of noise. Week Three: Get new belt and picked up new bearings from local dealer. Get home to replace bearings and find bearings are wrong ones and spindle shaft is worn from the bad bearings. Order bearings and spindle shaft from a big online vendor because dealer would take a week to get it....... .Week Four: Today. Get package containing new bearings and spindle. Open box and realize spindle shaft is wrong one(My fault ordered wrong one) Say hell with it and order new one from dealer and install old spindle shaft and old bearings in deck so My SIL can mow lawn next weekend.(He is mowing an acre with a push mower and I keep telling him "Next weekend the tractor will be ready to bring down to you) They live an hour and a half from us. Put back together and take it for a spin and turn mower on and bad noises and vibrations......... this is the result. I give up for today.............

There should not be that much wear from the back side of the belt unless the pulley is dragging and the belt's too loose. Having said that, it does look like the pulley might be able to be flipped. However, it also doesn't look like a $65.00 idler to me either. Check places like TSC or McMaster-Carr, eBay or Amazon for a less expensive replacement. All you need is the OD, height, and diameter of the shaft. A pulley like that shouldn't cost more than about $10.00.

Yeah don't cha just hate when they lagh and say "Just a lawn mower"! Oh what fun!!!!!

Probably both. I need to get some implements for it, as for now it's just a toy plus a tow vehicle for my trailers.

A couple years ago a my friend experienced the same problem. One of the cam support socket head cap screws cam loose and backed out causing and was interfering with the hydro cam. Might pay to take a closer look there. One safety tip. Anytime I mess with those hydro adjustments I put the rear wheel up on jack stands for testing.
