10 pointsBrought my big show purchase to the lake and gave it a test run on the lake front. Needless to say I am overjoyed with the results. Beautiful cut and runs and drives like new. What a machine.

8 pointsWas showing off for the Mrs Rules this morning... the "new" trailer I picked up from Tommy(aka Limited 12)at this years big show. In the process, discovered my Ol' Smokey(1960 Model 400) might be due for a set of rings. Still not bad though, considering it's only 57 years old. Can't seem to figure out why... the crustier this old stuff is...the better I like it.

8 pointsWell I truly did not know what wheel horse was thinking when they made this model. Just darn lucky that the next year they did it right with the B-80. What I am saying is they put these small tiers on it to look like a small tractor. But it looks better now with the deep dish on them and 22" on the back. I had to fix the seal on the drive pulley anyway so a double fix. I had the fronts but needed to exchange a tier on one of the rims because it was bald in the middle. So Hence the yellow on C-List. I had to buy the 22" on E-Bay. MUCH BETTER NOW IT LOOKS LIKE A REAL TRACTOR. I hope you enjoy the picks. Ohhh the pick with the Silvertowns is what happen when they get old but I have fix this before with large patches in side I like these old time silvertowns. Enjoy your ride.

7 pointsOk, what do you think of this wheel color? This is Ace Hardware Premium Gloss Enamel in Antique White. I am pretty sure this is the old Krylon formulation based on the way it goes on and it's smell. Plus it has the old style adjustable fan spray tip. The center portion of my rims still had the original color, and was still shiny. This looks to be just slightly lighter in shade, but I think the original color probably darkened over the last 50 years. Your thoughts?

5 pointsI love the original red paint look but I like freshly painted wheels to go with it. I don't know why. This is how the old 606 looked before the hub caps (and the engine) were installed.

4 pointsHi Red Square, I know how everyone likes to see everyone's new acquisition. So here's mine.... 1988 414-8. Purchased from the grandson of the original owner It seems to be in good shape. The deck has rust holes in it. Not sure if it's worth resurrecting. Needs 2 rear tires and 1 front tire won't hold air at all. Has a split in it. I will change all 4. I will be asking some questions in the future about tire options. Needs a battery. Also a small electrical issue that they bypassed, again will ask about that as I get to it. Other than that it just requires a good cleaning. Purpose of my purchase was to save the K46 hydro unit in my lawn tractor. Now I will have something I can use to pull my trailer, and work without damaging my lawn tractor. I started looking into purchasing a standard gear tractor a few weeks ago, and as I was researching I realized that Wheel Horse was the way to go. My grandfather owned what I remembered was an 854 when I was a kid and he worked the crap out of that tractor. I used to cut his grass with it when I was a kid. Here are some pictures of the 414-8 on the trailer last night when I got home. Oh, I think I got a great deal $250. Ontario, Canada.

4 pointsOk, you asked for them: Flames. My goodness... That carburetor can't be original. It's too clean. Need a filter housing for that element as well. Fuel leak at the gasket. But I'll be darned, I heard it run off a jumppack at his house before I loaded it up. That pinstriping! I'm in the market for whatever sheet metal goes over this area I guess.. I'm not sure what the story is with these welded on things here on the pedals. Any ideas? I'm going to buzz them off pretty soon if nobody knows. I can't imagine they belong there? That hitch works like a champ! Need to fix up the box on the rear there, but that should be easy enough. Straight pipe. Oh, it sounds good tho! That's a two position key switch. I heard it was supposed to have three? What's the third position for? This has just run and don't run for the key. Glorious! So that's what I have to start with. I'm all about hearing what's right and wrong and what to look out for with these. It might be q bit before I can start in on this because my 120A project is on the front burner still... But I need to gather parts anyway, and that'll take time. Mike

3 pointsThe difference between Charger and Electro. Electric PTO and standard Hydraulic lift plus Chrome Hub Caps on Electro. Hydro lift was an option on Chargers and many electric PTOs failed and were replaced by a manual. Hub caps could have disappeared Hard to tell from your picture but eh Electric PTO switch would have been just to the left of the throttle. Hole would be plugged on a Charger....

3 pointsIt's in the back of the truck as I type this. Too tired to take it out till tomorrow. I'll take some pictures then of the "interesting customization" work done by the PO. ;D it's pretty solid tho, anyway. Looks like a good platform to start from. Also, I think this is the first tractor I have ever bought that starts and runs without having to work on it at all. Heh!
-
3 pointsThat's great to hear! It must have been a long trip for you, I'm glad you had a good time and none of the Wheel Horse crazies scared you away from coming back!
-
2 pointsI vote yes, maybe because I did an antique white on my 854, it's suits me. BUT, it has to suit you. Glenn

2 pointsReading these stories is fascinating, especiallywhen the writer is talking about being a kid in the 40's and 60's growing up.. Being just "a puppy" still, at 42 years of age as I type this, I grew up in the mid 80's when I can recall my dads first mower. I think we had about an acre of lawn in Bethlehem, CT at the time and dad scooped up an old Honda rear drive self propelled bagger walk behind from the dump that he used for quite a while. After that, a Toro front drive walk behind 21" cut came along brand new from the store that he quite preferred, as it was 2 stroke and quite powerful compared to the Honda. I was still too young to play with these at the time they came about. A few years ago, when I decided that I no longer cared to mow my lawn in 14 minutes with a Scag walk behind 48" commercial mower and wanted to drag that out to the best part of an hour instead (what the!?), I started looking at old garden tractors and seeing which ones met my fancy. I'd always admired the Cub Cadets and knew they were built like tanks.. and that's where my search began. And then it occurred to me.. my dad had a tractor back in the mid 80's and it was red. That's all I knew. So I gave him call and he can't remember what model it was, but he knew that it was a Wheel Horse and that it "was already old" when he got it. I called my mom next, who was (divorced) down in N.C. now, and she also thought it was a Wheel Horse, but didn't know a thing about them. She said there's a picture of my dad riding it in the photo albums she has in storage, and I've been begging her to get that out for me ever since.. but she's still packed up from the move down south. Eventually, when she gets that album out, I'll post it up here and see if we can't identify it. I'm fairly certain it's a mid 70's model B or C series, and I'm positive that it's a gear drive model. We'll get to the bottom of this together. Anyway, that's when I ditched the idea of Cub's because then I know I had to have a Horse, because I had history with one.. and it's the first tractor that I ever drove, because I did have some seat time on it eventually when I was 12+ years old or so, but I can't recall much about it other than what I've already mentioned.

2 pointsYes, I got the banners but wanted a slow transition so the pictures will change shortly after the show on the new site and feeBay

1 pointIt is off. Just hard to tell. Sincerely, mikeasaurus Sorry. The linkage is off, and it stops before the arm hits anytging
-
1 pointI like the idea. But I agree with the whiteout line. I would personally put a white pinstripe about a 1/8 of a inch inside the black around the whole shape of black.
-
1 pointWith my dad it was mainly Sears, with some MW mixed in. Honestly, between the 1940's -1960's the tools offered at both were very good and peer to each other. I think there might still be one or two gold and white push mowers that were gramps in pops basement! LOL
