Gotta bring this thread up again. Luanne (correct spelling unlike previous posts) is wanting a whole house generator and I went over to assist her with it. She has had some folks interested in the tractor since it just sits now. She told them no and that she knew where it belonged. I dug into some old pictures and found this one of our oldest daughter siting on it about 7 months after I purchased it new from Chandlers. It was a leftover 1976 that I bought in February 1978 and Heather was born in January that year. The picture date stamp is Sept. 1978. Now, the same lady, pose and tractor 39 years later. And, of course we had to include Ilyssa in a shot. She's younger than Heather was and a bit too wobbly to pose alone. Luanne had a new seat put on it and someone fabricated a plate for the headlights and this is how she looks now. It's obvious that it was very well cared for in the 17 years away from me. The 48" deck is as solid as the day it was build and sounds great. You can see a few things missing but that was taken care of with @GlenPettit goodies and I just need to install them. Yes Glen, that little stubby on the mule drive is 3/8". The headlight bucket is there but I didn't find a lens at Mentone. The search will continue. I will be doing a good cleaning and tune up and the muffler will need to be replaced. That type is ok for an 8hp but on a 16 it's kinda tough on the ears. The transmission operates fine but the shifter rides past the 3rd gear detent so I'm going to open it up to take a look. I'm thinking it will be a candidate for an input shaft shim like I did on the Suburban 5010. I've decided to put the snow blade on this one and I want to make sure that it's fully engaged in 3rd gear. It's been repainted at some point and could use it again but I've got to ponder that one. It looks pretty good as it is and something inside me is saying it would be a tribute to Larry and the excellent care he gave it if I just left the paint as is. This tractor has been worked hard and has a lot more in it. I suspect that if the tractor could talk that's what it wants to do.

The guy was listing this 115 with a cart in craigslist for $50. I went down to take a look and once I saw the cart i knew it had to be mine… the tractor is for sale.

A few years ago I found a deal on neon clocks and brought them to the show. Sold them all and last year had several people asking for them but said it was a one time deal. I found 13 this year and am making them into Wheel horse clocks. The neon tube casts a red glow when lit. The face is linen beige background. Price will be $60 this year instead of $50 due to the cost of the clocks and material to reface them. If any RS members have an interest please PM me and I will reserve one for you till noon Friday. I had 35 of them at the 2015 show and sold them all by noon Friday. Will only have 13 this year. As usual we will be selling tractor decal kits at up to 40% off website prices. And like always if we do not have your kit with us you can buy it there at show price and we will mail it to you ASAP when we get back home. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Big Show.

Mentone Indiana very first June show and swap meet was a success! Ken and I would like to thank everyone for coming out to show their tractors, sell your parts or just enjoy the beautiful weather we had! I can't honestly remember when we've had a show and swap meet that it did not rain! Also want to thank everybody for the continued support in helping the Mentone Indiana garden tractor show and swap meet happen every year.

Well I feel like an idiot for not checking it sooner but the timing was way off!!! Points were opening after TDC advanced the timing as far as possible and it runs great!! Just need to adjust the Rpm now!

Hey everyone, I have a 97 416h with 800ish hrs. I've done little to motor other than regular oil changes/cleaning of tins and cleaning carb a few times and my Dad helped fixing wires near fuse block and rear cylinder. After reading all about the heat related problems of the (P216) 416 and (P220) 520 Onan engines over the years, I thought I'd see what the temperature was on the cylinders after mowing my little half acre property @ 70f outside temp. (This usually takes about 30-40 minutes as I have a lot of kid related objects in the way.) This was roughly five-ten minutes AFTER getting done mowing when the idea occurred. I got about 310f for the rear cylinder and about 235f for the front. The temps change a lot when going over the fins, but I used the highest temp I seen on the gauge. These aren't running temps, but after I got done. I used a laser temp gauge from harbor freight. I was wondering if anyone else has done this and was wondering what the temperature would be if I cut some holes in the right side drive belt cover like I think @Ed Kennell did on his snow machine to help keep warm. I plan on tracking this info and sharing results more accurately as the summer goes on. Thanks C

Finally managed to fire up my partly restored C160 today! Ordered a new carb from China, a whole lot of paint and a new seat! Next step will be to see if I can save the old mower deck...

Well I haven't been looking for one but always told the wife I wanted one one day. Well the other morning while doing my daily searching I found one. It was reasonably close to me and only an hour away. She is not a show stopper yet but will be after I clean her all up. And here are some photos.

Forgot to mention, when they are not dialed in... well you know the answer to that. Tecumseh made great engines, however, the ignition systems and carburetors were "marginal". When everything was set to specs they were (are) as good as anything offered today.

The rear cylinder is shrouded and holds heat. Myself and other members have noticed that the belt guard bracket is up against the fins near the valves. The valve seat failures are a common problem like you said you read. I trimmed my belt guard and brace and can feel a noticeable increase in the hot air blowing out the side.

A Techy reduces value...a techy with a knock .. big reduction. You say the Hydro "seems" OK. I will not buy any more "seems OK" hydros with out testing them.

Kinda like just finishing rebuilding your precious street machine and jumping in to fire it up for the first time and finding a brand new piston ring on the drivers seat The repair cost will be low and you can do it yourself. We need pictures to even guess what it's worth.
  22. 2 points
I also agree with above posts. I've done a similar repair to a 91 416-8. Had to replace a shift fork and since I was in there, replaced bearings and I think it was 3rd gear. That was after 1100plus hrs of very steep hills and abuse like slamming it into 2nd and 3rd regularly. Just remember to keep a close eye on all parts during the process... I thought it was all done and then found a woodruf key sitting on the work bench after the first assembly. Had to take a part again to install. Wasn't happy but I've done little annoying things like that before and probably will do again. Just part of the learning process. C P.S. how much? That'd be the deciding factor.

ACR AUTOMATIC Compression Release. Pops the exhaust valve up briefly during the compression stroke at very low RPM makes it easier to crank the engine.
  25. 2 points
Time is on your side as long you have a place to keep them.
  26. 2 points
If the rings were bad she might have some compression but a stuck valve or ACR would have none. Time to pop the head or look inside the breather cover and see what shakes.
  27. 2 points
That would be my first guess. I'd say definitely yes, it's worth the trouble if the deal is right. There's plenty of help here if you need it.

Well folks, it happened. After a 17 year separation she's back with me. Here's the long story. I don't know why the text in the link looks Japanese..ish.

NJhorses My experience is with Tecky`s is if you can ever get a good carb for these they run fine. I have had many. I had a 606 and a 607 they where 1st or 2nd pull tractors. Also set your timing dead on this helps also. Every 3 to 5 years reseat the valves. I found this out after years of working on them. As 12 hp Kohler says they are good little tractors. Just my

Changed out the exhaust on my C-125 a while back. Not only was the muffler the previous owner installed ugly, it also had a nasty habit of blowing exhaust fumes directly in the operator's face. Looks, sounds, and functions much better now

My heat shrink came today and I put one piece on a little larger than the cable, hit it with a heat gun, and then put a slightly larger piece over it for more strength and hit that with the heat gun. Then I hooked up the clamp and choke lever and it works great! @dells68 and @19richie66 I used adhesive based shrink tubing and I'm very pleased with the results and @953 nut for the

It is a replacement techy. i think you people are correct i should sell it. and see what parts i can sell from the other one that seems to be missing parts but has a deck and is an auto. Also with 6 horses now i dont need another project.

Not sure what you should do with them but don't part out the 656, that is a good tractor

Amish wheel horse? Really, do Amish people own wheel horses? I've seen John Deere tractors with all steel wheels on them. Wheel Horse with steel wheels?

Hanks got dibs on the dash & it's yours Jay, I will definitely be going to use the original style. Be warned that it might be awhile tho as I don't plan to get started on this till end of summer and get some other projects out of the shop. let me know if you need it sooner and if I get the time I'll get if off. Oh by the way if you want the dash the seat HAS to go with it!! I'll be using this one

... WE DID HAVE THIS ENGINE START ON US ABOUT 8 YRS AGO, WE HAVE NOT FIRED IT UP SINCE THAT TIME THE FRONT LEFT HUB WILL NEED SOME ATTENTION ... Hey, that's pretty close to me, I think I'll check it out... NOT!

Last summer I had a similar problem on a Lawn Ranger engine. I think it was an H60...(a LOT of motors have been on my bench). Exhibited the same symptoms. Was running fine for my friend, made a noise and just wouldn't rev up smoothly or run at a high rpm without coughing and sputtering. Tore it down and speced everything. Set points, timing, valve lash etc. Stumped. Sent it to another motorhead and he was stumped too. After pulling the flywheel for the last time to double check points and timing, I put on a different flywheel because it was the only thing I hadn't changed. Hit the key, it fired right up and ran smooth as silk. My theory is the steel insert in the aluminum flywheel had turned slightly throwing the timing off. A year later and it's still running fine. Just want to throw my experience out there.

@Dieselcowboy Did you ever post any other pictures on this? I'd love to see a few more. Yours is the only other original I've seen mounted on a Wheel Horse. Nice to know there is at least one more out there. I'd also love to see an action video.... your's looks well worn by the shape of the blade. Mine's NOS. It came from the family of a closed dealership in Iowa (via another collector in Michigan to me) .. Original owner's son claimed his dad was the one who talked Bachtold into making them. They were both a Wheel Horse and Bachtold dealership. Mine will eventually end up on either a 753 or 854 to emulate this picture.
