Finally got me a 520H. Also saved it from PO taking it to the junk yard. It needs work and some cleaning but it was a 1 owner. A farmer had it and I think was hard on it a bit. But it came with everything including the 5' deck. (Darn trailer was only 5' wide and deck would not go without un mounting it and setting it in.) Frame is broke on both sides from the heavy deck. But I guess should weld up ok.

But taking it to the scrapyard? when there is always a patch of stinging nettles/brambles/old hedgerows for long term storage available, gotta doubt he was a real farmer. Nice tractor and deck, good luck with it.

Looks nice. I have heard of fellows using a loader to "hang a deer(e), but never a horse!

I'm on my way to the fun part of my journey. Got the frame almost back on wheels. Disregard the wheels in pics. They will be the last of my project. Getting to this point is the best right now. At least i can move it in and out of my little work area easy on wheels.

Been raining hard off and on for 2 days. There is a little creek under there somewhere. No mowing this weekend.

I had this piece of slate that I picked up about 3 years ago at the quarry on our camp in Potter Co. I had good intensions of making a Pa shaped stone sign. Well, today was a cold rainy day and both my WH projects in my heated shop were finished, so out came the slate. This was my first attempt at stone cutting and carving so I proceeded with caution and drilled a lot of holes with the masonry bit at the critical locations. Now you geography purists will probably notice ...Philadelphia is missing. I wanted to use as much of the stone as possible, and after stepping a map down to scale to fit the stone, I had to sacrifice a corner. Sorry Philly Fans, but you had to go. I still need to grind the edges, but that is too dust to do inside. Then I could use some advice on the lettering. I could drill a series of dimples, or use the router, but an not sure if a carbide bit would cut the slate or if the dust would kill the router motor. ????

It's official...Winter is over in SC Pa. You can quote me on that Jim @WHX9. So, today I cleaned up the winter remains left by PennDOT. Then took the blade off the 312 and put on the Mad Max the tiller. Then loaded the 520 snow chucker and took him to the winter storage barn. While there, I loaded two mowers, the C-120 and the Raider 12, and brought them home for summer duty.

With the sprayer mounted on the back and filled I had to put on the weight hanger Jeff (WVHillbilly520H) made for my 161 Twin. The twin has a long snout so he had to extend his design. I think it looks pretty good on the short hood too. Please excuse the mess from our wood pile.

I've got 2 leads for you to check out. I called my engine rebuild shop to talk to them thinking they might be able to bore out that standard rod you could get. He did not want to try to do that on the Briggs rod. Anyway, he said tell the guy to try a web site called "Planet Briggs". He also said there is a place in New Lenox, Ill. that has tons of Briggs parts. New Lenox Engine...815-485-4545. Give them a call and tell them Kim from Auto Machine said to call you.

Today I removed all of the Hydraulic Hoses flushed them out w/ brake cleaner and them wiped them down with lacquer cleaner. I then tagged and numbered them, and they will be taken to my Industrial Supply Company Friend tomorrow who will make them for me. I will have 13 made. The two large pump hoses I am holding off on because I am unsure on pump location yet. I also think I will install a Hydraulic filter inline to keep the system clean. About 4 years ago knowing this project would come someday I came across an old weight machine that the county was scrapping out. I asked my boss for the weights and he gave them to me. These weights weigh 20 libs each and I have 22 of them = 440 lbs. The nice thing about these is that they lock together by the cast Iron castings. They also have nice large holes in them that can keep them locked together with large Rods and or bolts. Got an E-Mail from Terry today we have been working on Ideas. I will be painting the Loader Black so the are what the Decals will look like.

If you can beat Garry @gwest_ca in posting a helpful response. then you have accomplished something! I did it once, got the date circled on my calendar!

Craig, other than the black hood was a bit over extended I figured that hanger would be pretty much universal, and looks darn good on the 314, maybe you need one of these now goes on the clevis hitch you can raise and lower it and yep I built that too, Jeff.

IMO, the decks should never be connected by a solid lift link. They need to float on the rollers with the uneven terrain.

If you repair your frame, grind the crack out well, weld, then plate it and weld again. If you go with a 'new' frame, weld some plate in that area, it will be stronger than the original.

Bo Dawg, Good score, you should love the 520 when you get it fixed up, I have had a few of them broke in the same place on the frame, I welded them up and add some more support and they are still in use today.

now thats a new one. i never seen a frame break there lol. heres what i would do jack it up preferably on that bar weld it up. then i would figure out a way to brace it like running a peice of flatstock accross it to make sure it cant brak again.

Greetings friends...I haven't posted in a while...but been lurking! I picked up yesterday a sweet 414-8 needing only a drive belt for the deck and a carburetor cleaning......$100! I got her purring and just waiting on the belt...I'll show her off once the weather breaks and I can take some pictures!

Ok Ed ... Richard's on to something here....the guy I take all my tractor parts to for sandblasting is a headstones guy and the work he does on them is amazing. Don't have a clue how he does it but I know sandblasting is involved? You guys wanna all chip in for my get a HF sandblaster fund.......

We had a very welcome gully washer last night, we too are still in drought which began last May, but things are looking up. The mild winter and early Spring has Mother Nature all discombobulated, couldn't believe my eyes today, my tulips are beginning to bloom!

@Ed KennellEd how about a rotary tool with some diamond tipped cutters. You are showing off your skills. If it were me and with my skill set I would use a magic marker.

From the description, I'd guess the bendix gear is stuck or the little tension spring is broke. Remove the starter and investigate. When bench testing, the gear should move towards the outer edge but it sounds like yours is not doing that. Do not lube with oil or grease, use a dry lube like graphite.

Had that kind of frame problem on a friend's a few years ago. Ground the cracks, straightened the frame and welded it up on the outside. Made a couple of gussets from 1/4" steel bar and welded them inside the frame, should outlast him and me.

The GT14 uses a trunion rod with a sliding post. The float position merely allows the implement to lift or lower lower itself by gravity. Works great for mower decks where the cutting height is set by the deck wheel adjustment. Also, advantageous when using a dozer blade.

If it were me, I would make 2 1/4"x xxx wide plates per side (in and out) and use that existing bolt hole and if not 1 behind it drill another after getting the hydraulic cylinder out of the way and a hole for the support rod that way it could be sandwiched along with welding the original crack and then welding the plates it definitely would be stronger than factory and shouldn't ever be an issue till it turns back into iron ore dust, just my thoughts being an industrial machinist/fabricator, Jeff.

Nice find! I agree with @farmerhe couldn't have been much of a "Farmer" Thoses little cracks would have been no match for a creative application of junk iron and baling wire to keep it together.

Oh heck I would hate to have to tare it down and rebuild back on another frame. Lol... I'm gonna try and weld this as is and maybe just put a 4' deck on her. Heck might save gas mileage too. Lol.. Bo Dawg

The only model number I found is 4120OE02 but when I look it up on Toro site it doesnt have anything. Both sides is broke like this in same spot

Couldn't beat you tonight Jim. We are in Tennessee for the night, my tractors are in Indiana and all our other stuff is in a semi trailer on it's way to our new home. Tomorrow we'll be back home again in Indiana.

What planet you livin on Jack @Wishin4a416..... grass is dead brown here yet! Ok I will pull the blowers off this weekend and on go the tillers. Ed if your wrong I will be po'ed!. I see in the garden section the guys are prepping beds already so that gives hope! This weather aside this is a favorite time of year.... hopefully that "warm" rain we like will be here soon but I still believe that April showers bring May flowers!

I put my Snow machines in moth balls last evening Ed. Grass machines came out. Grass is coming fast now.

Thanks Sparky...this is my second 414-8. Last year I was GIVEN one in much better shape....and it came with 36 in RD deck, snowblower and rototiller....my lucky day! I also have a 310-8 with 37 in SD deck and bagger, a 1973 Commando 8 and a 1973 8-8 with chains and snowplow. I'm thinking of thinning the herd, and will probably keep both 414's....but I love them all! The PO didn't get the bagger with it....but I have one on my 310-8 I'm going to swap.

Didn't we see that last year 953.....Don't remember did it work?!!
