12 pointsWell Stevebo move over It looks like THE DUKE took your advice and has shifted gears and will be putting the Loader on this 2003 522XI. I think the Power Steering is what sold me
-
9 pointsHaven't been on here in a while. As most of you remember we were hit with a bad ice storm first of the year. Been staying super busy cleaning up the aftermath. But we have been having pouring rains for the last two days, so here I am. Figured I'd share some pics of what I've been working on.
-
7 pointsI hate $200.00 wheel horse's because I buy every one I see. Nice horse by the way.
-
6 pointsI would go with one of the Site Sponsors/ Dealers. Both are good guys! Keep them in business so they can continue doing what they do for the WH community! 1. A-Z Tractor -Quality (in Spec) Used Ones @ 50% or Less of new prices 2. WheelHorseman1000 -New Ones lower than Toro
-
6 pointsOk Tom, glad to see you all are getting a hoot .... Moen Duke although I am getting a bit nervous about seein Steve in a campground shower!

5 pointsHello fellas new guy here and just wanted to say hello. I am old but new to old tractors and just bought this one today in NH where I live. I have been looking for something simple like this for a couple of years now. I will use this for mowing and to help me move things around my property. The older gent I got it from is a very meticulous fellow and has restored several tractors in his 70 plus years. He did this one a year or so ago and did full on rebuild of the 8hp Kohler all new internals. Went through every nut and bolt. Only thing it needs is a spindle replaced or rebuilt. He was having fits trying to take it apart to change out the bearings. Also never added decals but I may. He was going to ride this around at tractor shows but has decided to move south and is selling off a bunch of stuff. The pics don't do it justice. It's a 77 ? B80 8 speed even threw in an original Wheel Horse gas can, anyone ever seen one of these ? Any way I know jack about these and hope to pick some brains here and learn a little. Any way that's my story. Btw I paid him $950 for this he gave me receipts for close to $700 in parts and the work he has done here speaks for it self.
-
5 pointsI came across this B-80 on CL with the intentions of making it my wifes/daughters/dogs tractor so they wont be asking me to use mine. It will probably replace my 265-6 or JD. The guy was asking 350 and " it ran when he parked it". I offered him 200 but didnt think he would take it. Well he did so this the second time I got a surprise. Im sure its nothing serious but its got to be worth that in parts anyways. The flames have to go though. I h.ope they appreciate this.

4 pointsI was just reading this thread where a guy up by you has just the thing you are looking for. It's a steam washer.
-
4 pointsDuke, they say the Xi's are the way to go, but I'm still partial to my Onan powered 520s as I have a 520xi also, and my new SCUT isn't much bigger, good luck on your project, I bet those rear Kenda's are 10.5" wide, and lots of guys have went with the Kenda or Carlisle all trail treads for the Xi's, John @shallowwatersailor would be our resident xi "guru", Jeff.
-
4 pointsIt's quite obvious to me. They wanted it color coordinated. It matches the foam inside the seat.
-
4 pointsI'm going to get a bunch of scrap, paint it all red and spread it all over Lane's camp site when he's sleeping at the show!

3 pointsGood point and will do Already shimmed the horizontal shaft. That tightened it up a bit. Just checked it. Yup. It's broken. $25 part from Toro. Wow. You're right. Interesting.
-
3 pointsYes it is a brinly cat 0 disc, does and awesome job! After discing i use this to level and pack it down, works great as well.
-
3 pointsI also like it, sort of an industrial look to it. Going off topic, Caterpillar wanted to get in on the garden tractor market in the 70s and they had John Deere make some in Cat yellow. But it never went into production. Brandon from HAPCO and LAGC magazine has one, I believe. For your viewing pleasure: It's in one of these videos, plus there are some Wheel Horses in these as well.
-
3 pointspower kings are in a class by themselves. i was told a long time ago that the rider was a converted walkbehind. i dont know if thats true but i never researched it.
-
3 pointsBattery is in the front where an engine is normally. Maybe you can fill the rest with ice and brewski's and make a mobile cooler! My retired engineer neighbor had one of those with a snowblade. He loved that thing until he hooked on to a load of junk in a crate he couldn't move. Just popped wheelies and banged the blade on the drive way. He was making so much racket I had to investigate. I told him to unhook and I brought out my Power King. I walked that crate out to the curb in 1st gear with out coming off idle.
-
3 pointsWell Tim in swinging this deal, two Ole 520's hit the Road! Soooooo that made room in the toybox!
-
3 pointsI'm a very strong believer in using Mulching Blades (called Gator, or Commercial), but with the original blades, so you have two blades on each spindle at 90º, giving you more than twice the cutting capacity (Gator blades have a high fin or deflector on their back which helps keep the clippings and leaves airborne for multiple cuts and finer, plus more blowing out force). With a side discharge, leaves have to go through a second or third spinning blade and the smaller discharge gives more force to the throw; using Gator blades with a rear discharge seems to be about equal. Gators cost about the same as regular blades and should be installed just above the original blades, same nut holds both. Having a clean smooth underside also helps a lot with airflow and clippings flow, but mowing reasonably dry material may be most important to mulching.
-
3 pointsRear discharge decks don't mulch very good. The large opening on the rear just let leaves fly . The smaller side opening on the SD decks work better mulching leaves. If you back up on leaves with a rear discharge deck it mulches better.
-
3 pointsBe interesting to see how a Ark is going to fit on there. Now you got a 520 to find room for also.
-
3 pointsI do have lots of parts -no B.S. about it! This is another lift link but I know exactly what it is for. This is the original 1054 54 inch snowplow link piece which was adjustable. We had one original for a 1054 and only had one plow. I bought a N.O. S. 54 inch plow for $100 several years ago. It did not have the hard link which when installed on the plow the hydro pump will lift the 1054 about five or six inches off the ground. T.T. (Terry Robinson) had three of these posted for sale on another internet site and asked if anyone new what they were. I did and bought all three! Yes I have parts, three pre-1965 snowplow in the basement and two in the garage!
-
2 pointsWell I'm going tomorrow to pick up my first gravely.. it's got 16hp kohler. Needs tires and a tune up but I'm excited to have it!

2 pointsso i have a 2004 10 x 12 foot metal shed. i moved it accross yard last year. well last year i put a patio infront of it bricks were given to me. and then i found some soft spounge type material for floor of shed what i thought was a good idea then i laid down mats on top of it. well i went to put my 1972 sears ss15 back in shed today found a hole in my plywood floor. well what was going on was water from patio was going right into shed. ( i fixed that issue a couple weeks ago.) well floor never dried up and rotted half of my floor out. so i got to use my small check and go buy plywood for my floor in shed lol. live and learn but hey water no longer gets in shed. heres a pic of 701 sitting on patio.
-
2 pointsIt's your Tractor, which means you can do it anyway you want. On the newer tractors like 400 and 500 series I like white rims instead of the silver. The White makes them POP in my opinion. Good luck with it.
-
2 pointsThe mere mention of those words have sent grown men scurrying to that popular auction site for sightings but I have found a real nice one here on another popular site for hunting for horses........enjoy! Well maybe not THEE original shower head ..... @wheelhorseman1000
-
2 pointsyou will find the spindle easily with the correct serial number of the deck, but I'm fairly sure it will be toro part number 103119,thats the spindle number for a 75-36ms02,which is a 1977 36 inch side discharge mower deck,no loger available from toro but pretty sure on ebay,i got mine from my local parts guy who gets stens stuff, and every other manufactuer, they are pricy but if you have the pulley off already that's the hard part, and I looked on ebay and theres lots of them around 40 bucks, and the stens ones were there too and I found them to be a good product

2 pointsJust a quick update... With 3 little ones to take care of, I didn't have the time to work on it today after getting home. I did however buy 2 Napa gold 1410 HYDRAULIC Filters today! Lol.. On sale for a little less than $7 each. I thought that was pretty good deal compared to usual price. Is the Hydraulic filter stronger/thicker or something? What could have happened? I hope this thread help the next guy into MAKING 100% SURE you get the correct parts before performing a (what should have been an easy) job. I will try to get a little time tomorrow. Thanks ~C
-
2 pointsBack in business. Replaced the four o-rings with four of these, as these were the closest I could find. And looked really close. Also used a Metric 214 O-ring for inside the piston base, because that's what I had and it was pretty close. Seemed to work fine. Will see if it holds up over time. I have some of that hard to lift once the oil gets warm, so I am going to try the PTO adjustment and see if that fixes it. Thanks guys!
-
2 pointsYep, those two o rings and there is another inside the part with the yellow arrow. Check the cylinder ram for pitting as well. It'll tear the o-rings after a few passes over it.
-
2 pointsIf you look at an EARLY 1996 314-8 parts diagram, it shows one solid tie-rod and one adjustable, with the adjustment end connected to the lower steering shaft, not to the spindle. However, the LATER 1996 314-8 diagram shows two adjustable tie-rods mounted with the adjustment portion outward. If you replace them, I would do it as in the later diagram. Also, the nuts on the tie-rods will work loose over time causing the holes to enlarge, thereby causing additional slop. All of the above suggestions as well as the actual steering shaft bushing in the dash tower are pertinent to having slop-free steering
-
2 pointsit's likely the shift fork has worn away, or broken off through extreme use or abuse. I think its a take apart and fix job....
-
2 pointsI was looking threw an old popular mechanics magazine from may of 1973 and I came across this very interesting wheel horse add that I thought some of you giys might appreciate.
-
2 pointsSorry for getting on to this late. I have been meaning to comment on this all week. There is a fourth version and that was engineered by Toro for the 5xi series, the #78395. Besides the required change in attachment points, Toro engineered in a small wheel that drops down to assist in moving the deck sideways to attach/detach the deck. This and turning the front gage wheels sideways makes moving (not lifting!) this deck easier than the 52" and 48" decks.
-
2 pointsYou wont be disappointed. I just transplanted a 25HP efi Kohler into my 522xi and it its just a sweet tractor. VERY heavy duty and reliable. There is i believe two threads on here for people adapting or building their own loader for the XI series, so have a gander at those (i will try to find them in a minute) and you should be all set as long as it is wide enough to fit over the cowlings and foot rests.
-
2 pointsI was told the same thing. They took the power train and instead of the handles and controls out the back they went towards the front. As you can imagine the front is pretty light. Seat height to leg resting height was kind of awkward at least for me. I had 2 neighbor's in the 60's with old walk be-hinds. They were old then so I'm thinking they were at least 50's vintage. There was no sleeping in on a Saturday morning with those 2 duking it out mowing their yards at 6 AM. Loud son of a guns. They both had dog eater blowers and in the winter they took turns blowing snow into each other's yards.
-
2 pointsslim67 I have had many of these. They are great little tractors. Never should sold the last one I had. Life's lesions.

2 pointsI would agree Jim. If the bore is not too far out I would run a ball hone down the cylinder, chuck a new set of rings in, and put it back together. After market rering kits are fairly cheap. You can always be on the look out for another engine to rebuild and have ready if something happens to this one. I would not how ever work with this block if it needs to have machining done to it, like over boring. I don't think it would be worth sticking that kind of coin into. I'm kinda wondering if the head bolts were over torqued at one time to cause the damage around the bolt holes. Could also have been a casting issue, like a bad mix at the foundry.
-
2 pointsI dunno Mower Freak, I was thinking button her back up and run her like I stole her?!?! What have I got to lose but the price of a gasket set? It ran with like that for years and ther was a couple of times I mowed with it and was not very kind to it (brush hogging and really long grass in the heat of the day @ a very full 3600)!
