...I don't think she's right! Saw this on FB the other day and thought it was funny! Mike....

I never thought I snored, never believed my wife when she'd complain. That is until I was sleeping and I must have been snoring so loud I woke myself up and caught myself in the act! Funny thing is sometimes my wife snores and when she does its wicked loud. She never believed me and thought I was simply looking for something to complain about. That is until the time not so long ago when I was going to bed late one night.... When I walked into the room I couldn't believe how loud the snoring was! Think quick! Grab the cell phone and lets take a video! Oh boy was she surprised the next morning and none to happy that she was snagged.....

Yeah you will want to find a set of rear rims off any 520. You can get the wider tire on them and the off set is correct. This pic show the difference. Left is original like you have now and right is the bigger 520 rim with 23.50 x 10.50 ags Be careful when buying new tires. I have seen 23.50 x 10.50 that were knock offs and were about the same width as the 8.50.

A little history. About 23 years ago, my wife and I bought our first house. It has a large yard with lots of trees. Therefore, I set out to do what any red blooded American would do. Buy myself a lawn mower. Not just any lawn mower. The best lawn mower I could find within a reasonable cost. I'm not a typical "go to Sears and pick out a riding lawn mower" kind of guy. I shop around, check out all my options, and even look at the current offerings at the State Fair. You see, it was at that Fair that I found exactly what I was looking for; a Toro Wheel Horse 314-8. What a machine! But I wasn't worthy of it. I abused the tractor over the years, I left it outside in the rain and sun, I did things to that tractor that would make grown man cringe. Then.....about 3 years ago I sold it. My sincere apologies to anyone out there that might be in possession of my old machine I'm older and wiser now. I've come to grips with the fact that I have mechanical abuse issues. The first step to recovery is admission, surrender and acceptance. That's why I'm here today. We have a single car garage. My wife's Audi is typically parked in it. But not since I found this machine....!

Ok We had some disappointment from some guys because they didn't get a lot of snow. I say HORSE HOCKEY!! You are welcome to come down and take as much as you want for free! No Tractor shots but these are from work today. I don't get to stay home like a lot of other people! Snow art: I dedicate this pile to Shallowwatersailor and Jerseyhawg Glenn! I'm thinking of mailing this pile to y'all! Who needs AC? This unit runs 24/7 365 I had to walk thru armpit high drifts to get to it!

Sleeve hitch is not a slot hitch. Sleeve hitch is a generic term and it's design is covered by an ISO (International Standard). It's a standard design used by all lawn and garden tractor manufacturers, as well as allied attachment manufacturers, i.e. Brinly, Agri-Fab, Ohio Steel, etc. The different tractor manufacturers may have their own term for a sleeve hitch, but they're all sleeve hitches per the ISO standard (ISO 9192) which has the term "Sleeve Hitch" in it's title. Cub cadet calls it a sleeve hitch, as well as Sears, MTD and others. Wheel Horse calls it a clevis hitch, while John Deere calls it Integral Hitch. But, they're all sleeve hitches designed to meet the ISO standard. A slot hitch, uses a slot in the hitch to engage an attachment, and was limited to just a few manufacturers, mostly Wheel Horse and a few others. I haven't seen the design used all cross all manufacturers like the sleeve hitch design, and I don't know if there is an ISO standard to it's design requirements. I hope this clears up the differences in those type hitches. We won't discuss the category 0 3 point hitches because that is an option that isn't readily available on most Wheel Horses and the attachments are very expensive and most aren't in production anymore since manufacturers have now gone to a limited category 1 3 point hitch design. For a new clevis hitch kit, go here: http://www.wheelhorseman1000.com/ Lowell is a vendor here at RS, you can see his vendor page here: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/141-wheelhorseman1000s-hitches-brackets-parts-and-more/

One step further on Jim's method, make a hole in the gasket material and place a bolt in it to align the gasket to the case. Using the ball end of a small ball-pein hammer you can tap lightly on each opening to make perfect circular cut in the paper. Drop bolts onto the openings as you make them to maintain alignment.

Well before we moved from New York to Tennessee we sold our sectional and got a futon for a few weeks before the move so we had the extra money and save space.. so we just got our new sectional and now my garage gets the futon to relax with my tractors.. Hey works for me! Lol and both my kids love to sit out in the garage with me after work to relax!

My old crusty 606 that I rescued from a fence row has been puking gear oil all over the place so I decided I'd pull the hubs off and take a look at the seals...... welllll the hubs were already loose!! turns out the gear oil has been seeping between the hub and the axle shaft. All I had to do was back off the bolt on each hub and they slid right off! I never get that lucky!

Thanks for all the input guys!! I will begin my search for a manual setup. A question on models I can use,,, would a later 300 or 400 series work? I have seen several 300 series with mower decks dirt cheap usually with bad 700 eatons. Update on the original electric clutch,, I have repaired it! With the snow battle well in hand today I ran into town and got some 5/8-11 all thread and 2 nuts, came off pretty easy, used the technique listed in the pervious post to separate the coil. The coil winding had separated from the filler used to encapsulate/insulate the coil winding in the housing and it looked like the one wire was broken off at the mini crimp connector used to fasten the external wire to the actual coil winding. Yes I had the coil assembly out of the housing, figured it already doesn't work so I can't make it worse! I unwound a bit of the coil winding to give plenty to work with (one wind of the coil from each end). Took the housing and enlarged the two holes for the wires to make it easier to work with and easier to get insulating material in there. Wrapped several winds of electric tape around the same places they originally used a paper insulator band and did a fancy wrap to insulate the wire that needs to go across the coil. I used enough tape to make the coil asm snug in the housing and had to persuade it a bit to go in. A quick test showed it worked again so I mounted the whole thing back on the crankshaft. I added enough wire to the leads of the coil so it could be wrapped around to provide a stress relief and zip tied it to the alignment bracket. I blew snow for a few hours and zero issues!

I laid my trans. casing on top a sheet of gasket material and traced it out on both sides. I used scissors to cut them out and a hole punch for the holes. It worked beautifully.

OK, what I have right now is a 1075 and it has only a harbor Freight engine. [Take your pick of a 6.5 Horsepower or a 14 Horsepower] The auto trans works OK and it has 1" axles with auto transmission. It came as a package deal with some mower decks I needed. Right now it is just a tractor that can pull things if I put the wheels back on. It has a cable to the hitch that has been cut for some reason and I suppose that the hitch had some hydraulics hooked to it at some time. My first inclination was to make a front mounted sprayer that was battery powered and just pull the 20 gallon tank behind the tractor. My thoughts are make the sprayer a 4 head 5 foot array that can mount and unmount from the front .I have Three other K series horses to configure as mowers so there is no real need to make this unit do everything. Just kicking this around as the unit is essentially free at this point. Here are My three runners. The mower in the center is my go to mower and the one in the back is taken apart for a paint resto as it was a dirty pig. it is a 12 HP manual Trans and that is my preferred platform of the three. The second [horriblibly over exposed] picture is the 1075 mounted to a two wheeled cart with the 6.5 harbor freight engine. All I can really say at this point is that the engine is mounted and the transmission goes forward and backward with a calculated top speed of about 9 MPH. The engine pulley is four inches, so I have room to go smaller You guys are the experts. Tell me what you think.

The pto clutch plate is bolted to the transmission drive pulley. The drive pulley is a different diameter for gear and hydro transmissions but are they all drilled to accept the pto clutch plate? Garry
  20. 3 points
Raider wouldn't work because you have a hydro unit. A Charger 12 would probably be your best match, both have a 1 1/8" crankshaft and is a Hydro. You will need to replace the drive pulley (friction disk bolts to it) as well as the PTO and the engagement hardware. The type Ed showed you will be the simplest to bolt on. Contact @A-Z Tractor and I'm sure he can hook you up with a complete set up.
  21. 3 points
Guys...on the 5003 and 5010 transmissions you can just reach into the casting and trace the gasket and the holes with a pen and then cut with a razor knife. A hole punch 5/16" can be purchased at ACE for a few bucks for that professional look. Slim and I posted at the same time.

I was able to repair the pto clutch on the 16 Auto and headed out the shop to the drive that had blown back shut with 20" of concrete. Came up to the snow and nuttin started spinning, backed up and tried again, same result. Back into the shop and jack up the rear of the machine and find the chains someone had given me. Got the chains mounted and found a few bungie cords for tensioners,, pure magic was even able to get through a massive berm at the end without issue whatsoever. I have never had issue with just the ags on pavement and I keep the blower shoes in the full up position. I guess it goes to show different surfaces require different traction aids.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I was over exposed once and somebody fixed me up. I can't take the sun like I used to. Seriously, I'd get it going with some wheels and have some fun with it...it just might turn into your favorite horse.
  27. 2 points
Yes….except for the 953, 1054 & 1054-A which used a set screw to hold the friction plate onto the engine output shaft.
  28. 2 points
There is NO difference between the manual PTO type used from the early side actuated style to the later push lever style between models of the same generation. Their transmissions had nothing to do with the PTO. Some models came standard with an Electric PTO such as the Electro's and GT-14's, but they can be converted to the manual PTO.

Tommy, Try drilling a 3/16 or 1/4 hole through the side of the PEX just under the metal tube. This should allow the air to vent from the case back into the tube so you can fill normally.
  31. 2 points
Garry has it correct again. All shafts turn CW and CCW....just depends which end you're looking at. Reminds me of a new $50,000 model reversible pump/turbine runner I tested many years ago for the Raccoon Mt. Hydro Project. After much head scratching over the very low efficiency, It was discovered to be the wrong "hand". That was when we quit referring to turbine runners as left or right hand and went to CW/CCW always viewed from the motor/generator. I do still have a $50,000 5 axis milled hand polished aluminum bronze 90 lb boat anchor. The point is when someone says CW or CCW, make sure you and they know which end they are looking at.

You probably need to find a PTO arrangement off a Raider. I just recently sold one. I personally think they work better than the newer version. No safety switches and simpler design that is easier to adjust clutch pressure. @A-Z Tractor probably has everything you need.

Thanks for the clarification T-Mo. I can't argue with ISO standards as I followed them, and made a few revisions to some, for 40+ years. I think has a more accurate descriptive name for the two hitches in question and since I am an old dog ( slow to learn), and I only deal in , please bear with me as I will probably continue to use the names for their hitches. I got my inner wire from http://www.mfgsupply.com/3-245.html today. It has a slightly larger diameter than the original wire, but it fits nicely into the original conduit. I'm still waiting on the new conduit from http://www.psep.biz/store/universal_mower_cables.htm, and when that gets here, I'll no longer take any "%^*#" from any throttle, or choke cable as long as I live!

CW or CCW -- Belt or direct couple This should solve all those questions except volume required. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200329712_200329712 Good for small tractor stuff but may be a little slow for big stuff like a 5 inch log splitter cylinder.

You will need to verify how the pump manufacturers determine the direction of rotation. Looking at the end of the pump shaft or the back of the pump? Another consideration Some pump shafts run on a bearing and that allows them to withstand the side load of a drive belt. Others have no bearings and need to be driven by a lovejoy coupler. If you have ever had to wrap a rope around a starter hub to pull start an engine the hub is always on the flywheel side of the engine. The pulled rope turns the flywheel clockwise - that's how I remember the crankshaft direction. So the pto side is turning CCW. Garry

This one I think I will restore as completely as practical. I'm not going to worry about the hood. Besides, I think it adds character. This is my third horse. I bought one about ten years ago to work around the house and garden. Needed a drive belt and a brake. One thing led to another and now it is almost completely repainted with lights, emblems, and new aftermarket seat on a mounting bracket from a 520H. During this process, I found out it is a 1981 GT 2500 anniversary model, and a buddy of mine offered me, for cheap, a 520H that needs minor work. Then I found a blade for cheap and went to pick it up. This 701 was sitting there. It was inadvertently left out of the ad. Bought it right, also. From the paint to owning three took less than three weeks! BTW, the 2500 is a mule and the 701 runs great also. It is ready to use as is! I will post a couple of pics of the 2500 when it is finished. I also would like to thank all of you for your help in identifying my 701! Andy

No video, and this pic isn't even from this storm. It is from an 18 inch storm we had here in CT. about a month ago. I don't usually plow with the storm, I like to wait till the storm is over to give my tractors a solid work out. (Within reason with smaller tractors) I must say, the Economy didn't even break a sweat. I knew it wouldn't as this is the fourth one I have owned.. I used it on a few of the private roads in my neighborhood with no sweat at all. I didn't use it this past storm because its so close to April, I want the snow banks to melt fast so I used my Ariens snow blower... I modified a 48 inch Wheel Horse blade to work on the Economy. Once you get used to being able to angle the blade from the seat any snow blade that doesn't do that is just worthless to me.. She'll ride right up a snow bank now, just like a Horse...

You can always go old school and make your own John. ... coat the housing with a thin coat of oil or grease and impress it onto some appropriate gasket material. Use an axacto knife to cut around the template and you have your gasket! Quite time consuming but if you enjoy making your own so be it.

I think your problem may lie with your ags. There are some that will disagree with me, but I think ags are terrible in the snow. They are great for dirt, but especially old ags just never grip anything in the winter. I ran the same ags on my dads old C-105 for 20 years trying to push snow (he didnt want chains on his drive) and it was awful. Never could get enough grip. When I got my own place I tried a C-145 with turfs weights and chains and it felt like a tank. Totally unstoppable. I was pushing back huge snow banks left by the city plows. My first choice now would be some new rubber like kenda terra tracs (k502) or Carlisle all-trails. @shallowwatersailor was able to do plowing without any chains at all and the K502s. (I have K502s on but I never got enough snow to test them for myself). You wouldnt believe how much more grippy and pliable new rubber is. Second choice would be any turfs with 2-link chains. Toss the ags for the winter time and get a nice set of tires or turfs and chains and it will blow your mind!

I had my 1267 there 2 years ago. But after my cardiac episode I can't stay out in the cold too long. Plus it's so loud it was rattling the windows. I was doing a little of that. Too my good fortune a room controller died today and I was 3 hrs. working on that. I wish I could have stayed home. If I can't get there by driving a snowmobile would be sent to get me. My wife has had the last 2 days off. The dogs loved that! Those pics were taken as I was walking thru the buildings with a shovel in my hand.

You need the clevis hitch ....I just sold my last one. I do have a sleeve hitch. Put an ad in our wanted section. This is the sleeve hitch. For both of these hitches to operate properly, you also need the rock shaft, bushings, and cable and sheath.

Hey Ed. I know what you mean about the packed snow. I had 9 inches of packed sleet over here with a little freezing rain to hold it together. I really wanted to try my new tall chute snow thrower on my 418A, but the packed sleet kept jamming the chute. Maybe next year when the snow is fluffier. I ended up getting out my old Craftsman 30" walk behind snowblower. It was slow going, but it got it done because it is a 2-stage, and cleared the icy mess out of the chute faster. I'm glad I didn't get rid of it when I got the WH blower. Then I cleaned up with the WH plow on my old 1076. Right tool for the right job. But I'd prefer 18" of light snow over 9" of packed sleet any day. Jim

Sounds like you dont have enough weight. At minimum, I run 50lb cast weights on each rear wheel with chains. This year I was prepared to add another 240lbs out back with suitcase weights. I also like to run 30lbs front weights to help the front Vredestein V61s dig when turning. Some people get away with no weight, but they have level drives and fluffy snow. I can push huge piles of wet heavy snow from the street with weights and especially chains.

I believe the older model's electric PTO is No Longer Available. Someone in the vendors section may have a good used one. Often I have seen people switch back to the manual PTO. The clutches are usually a sealed system and without some serious work and tools you wont be able to repair much. However, I would check your battery and regulator as the electric PTO will be the first thing to quit with a low battery (often the tractor can keep running until the battery is very low). The simplest fix maybe to just charge up the battery! I know you can check the PTO clutch by measuring the resistance of the coil (across the two wires while it is disconnected), but I don't know what the resistance specification is. Hopefully someone will be able to chime in here with their experience.
