This is a classic example of poor design. Could have made the seat simply pivot to rest on the steering wheel like my 1982 C-105. Works like a charm. IMHO Struts in this application are a very expensive way to do what could be done easily for free...Being cheap - I'd go with a broomstick or metal rod cut to size, drill / pin one side to the strut mount and let it pivot down / up to support the seat....My favorite four letter word - 'free'. But if you do go with a strut - Clueless has the right idea - get a generic replacement...

Got bored waiting on a part for the Suburban to come back from the shop so....... I have a 68 Raider waiting to get restored ( I had to use it twice last year when the Cub, the everyday mower, was in the shop) so I brought the deck in for a cleanup. Took everything down to bare metal. Replaced the belts and a couple of other items. Unfortunately the Suburban part is still in the shop and the Miss's snagged me to put a new ceiling in the downstairs kitchen.

Since we are on tire topic now. Mine arrived today.

I Just found a place that sells just the inner core wire for throttle and choke cables. It was $14.48 for 100 feet including shipping if anyone is interested, here's the site: http://www.mfgsupply.com/3-245.html This wire is .058", and my original wire is .054" which should not be a problem. I've got 10+ tractors plus other things that use wire like this, so I'm thinking this will be a good investment. When it arrives, I'll check back in and let everyone know how it is.

I went to look at this 857 this morning that some old timer has for sale. What do you guys think about this 857 for $400? He hasnt advertised it yet.I ran nice and looks pretty good except for the seat.

Nothing earth shaking here to update but do have a roller. Waiting on the dash housing to come back from the polisher to get the hood fitted up. Hopefully get the final paint on the fender pan on and get started on the motor. Just have to pop the head & check things out & repaint tins there. Word to the wise on these projects is get things ordered that you know you are going to need so you're not help up by back orders and waitng.Nothing worse then having shop time but one little thing holding you up from progress!

It's definitely handy to have that wire around when you have a bunch of tractors. The conduit comes in bulk too. I like the covered, lined stuff. It has a plastic lining tube inside which creates a nice smooth slide of the wire and keeps water out. Since winter seems to want to linger a lot longer than I'd like, I'm back to preparing everything so I can proceed at a quicker clip once the weather turns for the better. Came home last night to my new rear tires. Rim blanks and Front Vredstein's are on the way too.

You can get a far cheaper one at your local auto parts. A new original is around $70.00. Take the old one to the auto parts store see if they have one the same size.

Me too but If I have to, Ill cut the centers out of the stock wheels and make another set with some 15x10 rim blanks like you have. Way too far away to worry about right now. Got to get it out of it's multi colored coat.

Ok...... so if I understand this correctly, I can put 5 lug hubs on a gt-14 as long as they are 1-1/8" axles? If so, I'll be putting these on till I can get the factory rims fixed up.

I noticed the Rolle Brothers decal on the side. There is a good chance that I saw that exact tractor in the showroom. When I bought my Work Horse brand new in 1984 they had quite a few of them lined up in the showroom, along with many,many black hoods. When I spoke to the last of the Rolle brothers a few years ago he told me that at one time they were the largest Wheel Horse dealer on the east coast. They had a parts room and a showroom that I wish everyone here could see. Just wanted to share a little bit of history of where that tractor came from. Where is it now if you don't mind me asking? No I don't want to buy it, I still have my original Work Horse and one other Work Horse!

Yes I had a simplicity broadmoor with a twin Briggs and it ran well. Hopefully the trans is good if the engine is shot I could swap another in. I plan on a restoration for work. Meaning, clean it, get it running and operating reliable and strong and some paint. Seat too. I really like the look of the work horses so I'm stoked to find this. Looks like the wider wheels too

I just buy them long and they are pretty simple to cut to length. Then you can add the Z bend to the cable which is easiest with Z bend pliers but they sell a Z bend tool for only a couple of bucks or then there's always the needle nose pliers method too.

Some questions to expect from a typical CL add response caller on this ad: Will it power a 60" deck? Do you think it has enough power to run a tiller? Do you think a standard long frame front blade will fit? Should I use chains? Does it smoke? Will you take $100?

Update, as fate would have it, after I found the Dxi Daihatsu engine to be more than expected the Mahindra dealer gave me a ring and the guy who had "committed" to buy backed out, so I got my chance again and I didn't wait around so now I'm an owner of what TORO should have built as the Xi series, anyways here it is compared to the 520xi I still have as not long after the eMax showed up the Dxi left for another home, Jeff.

Oh you guys don't miss a thing! Method to my madness....I Just grabbed whateverI square at hand.... I was using that to square the front end up to the frame, the measurement device is not in the picture, and check the alignment and pin/plate slop. New pin/plate did not help Dan @achto , bout 3/16 to almost .25 slop, but line boring the axle pivot to 1 inch and pressing in bronze 1x3/4 bushes brought in to a 1/16 with the new pin plate. Front end is now tighter than a nun's ......never mine tell you in private my bad no pics

Thanks for that link. I went ahead and ordered the lined conduit. It didn't cost much more than the plain stuff, and "you only live once". I still have the inner wire coming from MFG Supply as well. I'm looking forward to replacing some troublesome cables as soon as it all arrives.

By a harbor freight bed breaker. They have a tire changer, but IMO a huge POS. I use the bead breaker all the time, from tractor tires to ATV to car/truck tires. From there I use big screw drivers to get it off the rim. Not too hard, biggest pain is holding the tire still. I just ordered a set of tires from Miller, super nice people to deal with. Little on the expensive side, but not sure where else you can get the tri-rib fronts from tho. Ags are great tire, all I run. But not so good with chains. The chains end up in between the lugs, and when they don't they lay on top of the lug, creating a high spot, and uneven-ness, read: rough ass ride!!! With turf tires and chains, the tread is a flat surface, and the chains don't fall in between the lugs, meaning smoother ride. If any of that makes sense lol...

So here it is, the day after my birthday, and I am celebrating by doing a 5K charity run (in my case walk/run) and Irish Festival this morning. The weather couldn't be like it was last weekend. Nooooo...it's 18 degrees here. Oh well, I'm layered up with lots of Under Armor, and I know that since this is a pre-St. Patricks Day event, there will be (beer) at the end. Should be fun.

Well today I was able to finally try and fire this 551. I do not have the new key switch yet so in order to start it I simply put a ground to the center post on the selnoid.

Easy to deal with and also got free shipping (was on there eBay store) , even sent me pictures before purchasing . Home Depot even had good prices on tires. I just did my homework and searched the net got all four of my tires for my 520H for a total of $150 delivered... I guess you can call me cheap...

Those areas will leak oil when there's excessive pressure inside the crank case. Possibly caused from blow-by of the rings, blocked breather, over filled oil level ect.

Sure could mow your lawn quick with that.....as long as you had a BIG, treeless yard!

I got a Delphi from Rockauto for $53.00 shipped. Probably screwed up because Autozone had lifetime warranty for that price and their brand.. So you go to Mopar dealer for the OEM? No way to test this thing anyway as it works for a while and then the spark drops out leaving you stranded for at least an hour

I tried nylon for awhile for linkage parts , but any thrust against it's side walls just splits the stuff too easily - went to oil impregnated bronze and never looked back and they help stop the wear on the linkage/holes . Sarge

Like I said.... slow burner... a few bits turned up over the last month on that auction site. A few hundred quid later, 300 miles, a hotel stay, etc I came home with this lot! The idea being I need to design a drop box between the rear and front axle. Plan A was a right angle box, but then I thought I could go more compact and get the gearing in with a small peerless box. Heres a dry run of the current thoughts. I need to get a rear rear axle on the bench to look how things might join up and fit a little better....

Both adapters done, it's gonna be a beast! best take a look at the rear axle...
