12 pointsI pulled this from the 1980 fold out brochure. Just a brief synopsis of certain models/years.
-
9 pointsSomeone on WFM (John Deere GT site) created this check list. It has some lines on the bottom you could add your own categories or things to check. Check List.pdf

7 pointsI just uploaded a Brochure in the document section but thought I would share one of the best parts of that brochure. This is a really nice fold out Centerfold IMO.

5 pointsHere's my opportunistic napper . Found her under a pine tree on the 4'th of July 2015 . She was maybe 2 weeks old , barely clinging to life . We named her Liberty...Libby for short . If I'm in my chair she's in my lap...she doesn't move and just rides along wherever I go (in the house) .

4 pointsHello everyone. I'm new here and looking for a little advice from some knowledgeable folks. I recently found a 1988 520h with 600 hrs in immaculate condition. It comes with a brand new, never used, 48 inch sd deck, 48 inch 2 stage snow blower in like new condition, a 55 inch dozer blade in excellent condition, tire chains, wheel weights for front and rear, a counter weight, and some extra little parts like gas caps and such. The guy is asking $3600 or best offer. Everything about the equipment is in immaculate cosmetic condition. Just curious to see if anyone thinks this would be a good buy or not. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

4 pointsThat is down-right handy! Not only for someone asking "what should I look for" but for keeping tabs on what we already own! Ohh what about "pinning" this so we (I) can find it again?

4 pointsI am finally without a cat after 66 years of always having a little guy around. I miss that the last one used to sit on the sofa staring at me until I got up to do something, then she would move right into the spot I vacated. As far as the coat on the bed, that was a given. If any article of clothing was left on a horizontal surface, it wouldn't be long before a cat found it, and claimed it for a nap.

4 pointsOur cat and my wife have a mutual appreciation for sharing the warmth. Each morning the cat curls up on a blanket in my wife's chair warming it up fro her. When she (the wife) gets up for a cup of coffee the kitty moves over so the wife can have the warmed cushion then curls up for some quality lap time.

4 pointsGot the tranny rebuilt and painted. Lost the drive pulley woodruff key so the pulley is only place but not bolted on yet for those eagle eyed patrons. Setting up the wife with a half dozen chickens the few days and won't get a lot done on tractor. Not a ton I can do regardless as I'm am mostly inhibited to basement shop until weather turns. This 8 speed will match the Restomod "Elijah" so black undercarriage and red body.
-
3 pointsIf everything is immaculate, in brand new condition... what was the tractor doing for 600 hours?
-
3 pointsI have a 74 C160 I know will out last any box store tractor! And its already 43 years old!
-
3 pointsIf the tractor condition is in as good as you say, it sounds like it was well taken care of. So maintenance was most likely done when needed and the owner took pride in his stuff! These are the tractors that bring more money and are sought after in my opinion. You could make your money back no problem in you don't like it.

3 pointsMy old Carhartt hadn't been on the bed in Mom's spare room for 10 minutes when Miss Emily figured it would be a good spot to nap while the humans ate & visited .

3 pointsYou can say she a LITTLE spoiled ... yogurt every morning and she doesn't miss a meal like Bob said !

3 pointsWe have several varieties that will bloom in North Florida. We can't bloom them all. The early ones are almost done, and the rest will hopefully bloom this year, but not surprised if they don't since many were planted last year, and it has also been very warm. We have only 2 small clusters of blooms on our apple tree now, and leafing out.

3 pointsI loved getting those quarterly mailings from Wheel Horse. And I still have them stored someplace around the house.

3 pointsMore good stuff. This was posted here a few years ago. This one is from sometime in 1986. I'm always on the look out for this type of stuff, including brochures. HorseSense.pdf

3 pointsYes, though I think it is a C-series he's on. Jackie was a spokesman for Wheel Horse in the late 70s and early 80s. Here are some more stuff with Jackie and WH. jackie stewart.pdf Pages from 1982 Magazine.pdf Pages from 1981wheelhorsemag.pdf

3 pointsWell my friends, this will probably be the last update and the last of the work on the 500 Special until we are officially Hoosiers again. We are scheduled to close on our new place up there March 10. We will then close on this place a week or two later. But......you all know the potential pitfalls in real estate. But so far everything is moving along quite nicely. I was already working on the hood so I decided to finish and install it before the move. I think it will travel better. I made a modification at the hood hinge so it doesn't tip too far when open. I installed Terry's beautiful decals this morning and noticed something when I put the hood ornament on. The back hole was about 1/4" off center. This hood was originally on a 657 and of course it didn't have a hood stripe and it wasn't noticeable.. With the 500 Special stripe you've got a perfect reference to see it. I would have been compelled to fix it had I noticed it before painting the hood. Now it stays as is. This one is going to be a worker. You can see the axle bracket on it. Yup, this will be my snow pusher. I'll be looking for a blower for my 2005.
-
3 pointsI put down 3 - 4 inches of grass around all my plants. Keeps the weeds down good. In the winter I cover my carrots with about a foot of leaves and then cover with plastic. The ground is just as soft as it is in the summer and when I take the leaves off in the spring the carrots that didn't get picked start growing again. This is the garden I build at the last place. 8' high with rabbit guard around the bottom and electric fence at the top with solar charger. No one got in. I'm going to put up an 8' high fence around the front of the property here - about 3 acres.
-
2 pointsI would ask for the service records if they are available. Make sure that the engine cooling fins have been kept clean and free of grass and debris. The major problem with the Onan 20 HP engine is lack of cleaning in regards to the rear cylinder fins and tins leading to overheating and burning of the valve seats.

2 pointsLook at what new junk from a big box store cost. You might get 5 years out of one if your lucky. A horse will last a lifetime.
-
2 pointsA less than earth shattering update. But hey! it's winter and any progress is good IMO. The proverbial cherries on top came in today.

2 pointsthanks from Canada,we get a long weekend this weekend too, family day they call it,and its gonna be nice out.it seems since the Donald has taken over half of americans want move up here, well we pay a lot more for most things up here and I don't believe its gonna be any better up here compared to usa,its actually driving real estate prices over the top, properties in Toronto are going for 3 or 4 times what there worth, not good when the bubble breaks, and for us locals we cant afford to live where we were born

2 pointsBlade on a Horse, pretty much all the time, yearlong. Deck on a Stallion, all year. A Gelding no implements, ready to pull. Great reasons to have a herd in the barn.
-
2 pointsTook the snow blade off yesterday and changed to turf tires! So I'm sure it will snow now! Oh well gonna roll the yard this weekend, suppose to be 66!
-
2 pointsSince July I've owned those 4! The 3/14 was sold and replaced with my 3/15. The raider 12 was pretty cool. I had seen it rusting in a yard not far from my house. Told my wife I'm leaving a note about that tractor, she said I was nuts, but I got it and for free. Engine was free, hydro was as well. I sold it to a friend but I took the slot hitch, cable, chains and the rear tach o matic. So right now I have the3/12 and 3/15 set up for winter duty with a 48" plow on the 12 and 44" blower. The 15 needed a good cleaning wheel seals and bearings. I welded up a 2" receiver for it and made a weight rack to hang my suitcase weights. The 12 came with cast irion wheel weights and chains. We had 15" snow here first chance to use the 3/15 with the blower. Wow threw the snow 35', my drive goes up hill and the the chains and 180lbs of weight it operated awesome. Here are pics from the fall. 3/14 loaded with loam, and kids for our October fest hayride. My 3/12 became a haloween prop, also had my pioneer p41 with a big Stihl bar on it

2 pointsThe original poster hasn't been logged into the site in over a year, so I'm not sure if he finished this or not. But, I have been playing around with a 3D version of my 551. A lot of things aren't right, i.e. the engine, wheels, hubs, seat, steering wheel etc., and I measured a few things like the frame and foot rests, and I still have to measure the hood and some other things. I found a few things, those which are incorrect, on the internet and used them as representations. I still have a long way to go and may never finish this project, as time constraints sometimes get in the way, as do priorities. But here is what I have so far. Again, some things are incorrect, but scaled pretty close to what they need to be. I still need the front axle, lift lever, transmission and axles, etc., and a few other things, plus I need to correct some things as well.

2 pointsI think you should be fine on the 48" spacing for the corn, but it is better to have a block/section of corn, rather than 2 very long rows..

2 points2/16/2017 6:30 to 7:00. Just a dusting, missed the 8" to 14". Plowed with the 1995 520. 20 degrees, breezy, 1/2 gallon gas.

2 pointsWell I got a great deal and find for my new motor. $150 for a K91 can't go wrong. It came with parts to a leaf vacuum. But the motor is what I wanted it for! I'm gonna go through it and clean everything up and then I'll see how good of a deal I got.

2 pointsI believe the 702 is 15 1/8 and the 854 is 16 1/8. That's from gas tank to front seem I believe. The difference in length is for clearance of the air cleaner on the 854.

2 pointsI remember when my kids were young and a ride in the yard trailer being pulled by the WH was a treat!! But my son is almost 22 years old, 6'3"tall and about 215#s....those days are over!! Mike..............
