10 pointsIn an effort to help our Moderators keep us in line I offer the following. The next time you feel the need to rant (we all do it from time to time) this list may be helpful.
-
9 pointsawesome! - Its a C-160 Automatic- I went to look at it last night. It has the original 16hp Kohler. It pretty much started right up from a cold start after fiddling a bit with the choke and throttle. The hydraulics seem to work well and I don't see any leaks at all. There was some squealing but im pretty sure that was just a belt or pulley. It has a 36 inch deck and a 5hp Yard Machines tiller that also started up pretty easily. It has been garaged for the last 10 years. It has a new battery and newer after market seat. He is asking $950 and won't budge. I wanted one much cheaper but I still feel like it is worth what he is asking. Just wanted some opinions. These are a bit harder to find out west where I am compared to where I'm from (Ohio).

8 pointsI love the engineering on that muffler! lol That tractor is very nice, but to me not $950 nice. With that being said, location does matter and if they are uncommon in your area that may be reasonable. In my opinion the C-160 was one of the finest tractors that Wheel Horse ever made. With that being said, the value is strictly what you are willing to pay and I think for the most part, that is what anyone here will tell you. Again, the machine looks pretty clean and straight except for the engineered muffler! lol Just my Let us know if you get it!!

7 pointsSo I posted in "what's in your mirror" this nice original 1989 520 HC. It came with a really clean 60" deck. I broke the nipple off the fuel pump when as I was changing the fuel line so $14 bucks later the new one arrived in the mail today. Put it on and fired it up. It was too cold today to degrease and pressure wash it but I was able to start buffing the hood with a high cutting compound and it is going to clean up real nice. Good news is the tranny is strong but bad news is the engine runs real strong but puffs a bit. Good news is I have another low hour Onan on the shelf that I can swap out. Hopefully tomorrow it warms up enough that I can pressure wash it. We shall see.
-
7 pointsIMO, the C-160 is the best WH made, and that one looks and sounds like it was maintained well. I would feel better paying $7-800, but with the working tiller ? The Sundstrand trannys can be a weak link. I test all the hydros I buy by strapping them to a tree and make sure they will spin the tires in forward and reverse.
-
6 pointsGeorge in case I haven't done so already. I would think that might worth 950... try to put together that stuff at a big box or even a dealer for that kind of coin. Not gonna happen. I'm with Ed on the 7-8 but yes your area and it appears maintained. Do the hydro test if seller permits. I was gonna say something about the muff but you beat me to Mike! Maybe the PO is a pipe fitter?!?! How about a nice stack! Yes let us know if you score and Oh my you just had to edit that calendar shot in there didn't you Ed!
-
6 pointsIt is OK to ask, but we need pictures and a good description of the tractor and its condition. I know of two RJs for sale....one is $150 and the other is $3600.
-
5 pointsI ordered this stack from jimkemp. Sent him exact measurements I wanted and design. He did an amazing job on it and it looks great! RJ is winterized so I'll have to wait until Spring for a test run with it.
-
5 pointsYes the snow thrower/blower and the mule drive pulleys for the mower deck, front mount mower carrier, or any thing you can fab up to work/fit in there and it was an integral part of the tractor as much as the mid also front loader brackets attached there also I'm more will chime in with what I missed, Jeff.
-
5 pointsWe only had one channel for several years, Jim. We just pointed the antenna North towards Johnstown for KDKA. Then life got complicated when a Baltimore station increased their power. Then it took two people to change channels. One to grab the pipe wrench and walk out in the snow to turn the antenna while the second person yelled directions while watching the screen.
-
4 pointsWhen I brought my third home my wife said "WHAT are you going to do with THAT"??? I have to admit, it did look pretty bad at the time.
-
4 pointsWell, when I picked up that D250 for @fast88pu last Saturday the fella had this nice if not perfect B100 sitting there. His asking price was higher than my budget for a non GT14 But I decided to toss him a much lower number as I had thought I might use it for parts for the GT22-8. He replied with a higher number again and I did not reply. After 3-4 hours he countered himself and viola I now have a B100. It's nicer than I thought and he had replaced some stuff to tune it up. So I may turn it into a mower which will allow me to do additional modifications to my GT14 herd. So I really did not expect him to sell at the amount I was willing to go...Nice surprise.
-
4 pointsMy take on this is simple once a year take a look at the color and fill level of the oil.... if black add to the fill and leave it alone, if gray or brown definitely drain flush and replace. What kills the seals is when the oil is contaminated with water (bad boot seal or condensation). THATS ALL THERE IS FOLKS.....
-
4 pointsWe never had an outdoor antenna. What you couldn't get with rabbit ears (with tin foil), you just didn't get.
-
4 pointsI remember all of those along with Howdy Doody, Clarabell the Clown and Buffalo Bob; and who can forget Bozo the Clown or Popeye! I just never played with Dinky Winks. I had a deprived childhood, what can I tell you.
-
4 pointsAs long as the rubber shift boot is in good shape and no dirt or water gets into the tranny, I doubt you need to flush it at all. Again, as long as the axle seals do not leak, you won't have to add lube either, but do check the level of the lube.
-
3 pointsI'm with Dave....That sure looks like a 42" deck. Just curious, what hitch does it have to lift that tiller, a slot or clevis? The $950 is more than I would pay, but I only paid $150 for the 160 that I posted above. Obviously I repainted it, reupholstered the seat and added new decals. Having said that, It is a super nice well equipped tractor. The lift cyl and valve is worth $100, tiller $200, deck, $200, hitch $50. So $500 for the tractor sounds pretty good. Put a two foot stack on that big thumper and you'll think you are mowing on a Harley. Like Paul says, the hydro is the big concern on these tractors.

3 pointsis the $700-$800 figure just looking at the WH itself with no tiller? If that's the case im pretty confident that I could flip the tiller for $200 this spring making the WH with deck $750

3 pointsThat's a great list, D**k. I would add a couple more, both of which my wife uses on the rare occasions she doesn't feel it necessary to control her emotions: "FUDGE" and "BLOODY". I personally find "BLOODY" more offensive than some of the words I use on a semi-regular basis, but what the **** do I know? There's also a bit of irony in the Triple Play listed at the bottom of the list. Have you ever heard any of Bob Saget's stand-up routines? And oh yeah, this all just reminded me of a TV commercial that aired years ago. I don't remember the actual product (rarely do), but it was some sort of quick meal-in-a-box product. The pretty young Southern housewife is serving this whatever to her family, everybody's smiling, the narrator explains how convenient and nutritious and tasty the meal is, and our housewife smiles and says sweetly "And I didn't do diddly!". That was the original version. It was cute, as TV ads go, and sounded harmless enough. But apparently somebody decided it was offensive, because the last line was shortly replaced by "And I didn't do squat!". To me that sounded more crude, and the words just didn't flow as smoothly as the original version, but it stayed. It's hard to figure why certain words just get us upset and others don't. Life is generally pretty funny in this country. Not now so much, but mostly.

3 points6 gpm pump and you pressure should be controlled by your pressure regulator in your control valve. It is a simple open center setup that works well for this system. Make sure you flush all the lines, tank its and use fresh oil with a new hart for your loader.
-
3 pointsI would add: "Oh Poop", "Bull Cookies", "Stick it in your ear", "Say What?" and... "Geez"... So "Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!..."
-
3 pointsI remember some of those shows, Saturday mornings had great kid's shows. Being the oldest I was the remote control in the evening after the news . The remote job wasn't hard only had 3 channels.

2 pointsHello all, I have plenty of friends here on the 'square and I think most if not all CT members know me or of me. I decided to post this because if you dont laugh you'll cry. This is one of those stupid things you do and MOST times get away with... not this time, but nobody got hurt. The scene... its snowing like heck, lots of slick stuff and ice... add in a 30 hp hydrostatic mid size JD tractor with FEL. My sick friend/pseudo boss calls the shop and asks me to move a few boats around so the yard can be plowed. No prob, I 'git er done.... Then I step on the hydro pedal and the tractors rear end kicks out, hmmmmmm flash back to manchester CT Caldors parking lot circa 1989 with Vin and Matt and the '68 Nova. DOUGHNUTS!!!! So here I am doing doughnuts on tractor and having a ball... then I loose it and tractor goes into bad skid. I search frantically over next 2 or 3 seconds for brake pedal... no dice, I look up, think to myself awwwwwww poop and crash. FEL opens driver door on my Silverado like a can opener. Yep... 45 yrs old and pulled a real stupid move. Nobody hurt... anybody else got similar stories? Tony

2 pointsSo I am finally getting to the re-assembly portion. I have seated the bearings. I managed to damage the small input shaft seal so I'll see if I can pick one up at Napa in morning otherwise I'm down a week waiting for a spare seal. Then it's putting the puzzle back together.
-
2 pointsUmmm. Yes. I was alot younger and much wiser I am sure..... We had just finished planting the last 100 acres for the corn planting season. My 2 uncles always had a beer in the field after the last field was planted. My 3rd uncle (Their older brother) didn't always appreciate this ritual. Because I was 17 at the time, These 2 thought I should be old enough to imbibe as well. Well, uncle Joe didn't. As I was supposed to take the tractor and fertilizer wagon home and start milking? He REALLY didn't see the importance of me being involved. So, after a rear end chewing? I was to be on my way. The only similarity here is that the tractor was GREEN. It was a 4020 JD with a cab and FEL, AND Du-Alls as well. I climbed in, fired her up? And, because I was sure I didn't deserve that chewing? I stuck her in gear? Turned hard to the left? And dumped the clutch in utter digust.....Which promptly helped the right dual bounce right up and over the trunk of my other uncles( The one who thought I should have the beer) 71 Torino Brougham. Needless to say? Nobody laughing. Til later. I never even got to taste that beer........
-
2 pointsLots of good thoughts here but i am with Ed...The big thing for me would be a hydro stress test. I like my Sundstrands I have 5. But I will not buy another one without having the chance to get it hot then put it up against an immovable object and see if she will spin here wheel on pavement. Or dig herself into the dirt. i didn't do that on my D200 and have spent a lot of time and money getting her right. No stress test and my offer goes down....way down. if he will not allow it what is he hiding....

2 pointsIt would really be nice to see shot of the tines. Also, I don't think that's a 1971. I think it's newer. The C-160 didn't come about until 1974. That has the newer style axle bracket which also indicates a newer model. Also, a 71 used a two belt drive setup with a pulley bracket attached to the frame just in front of the transmission. Yes, it will hook right up to your 300 or 500. You'll need the lift parts on your tractor. I hate to throw prices out there but if it were me buying it I would go $250-$300 if the tines were good and everything was there.

2 pointsSo I'm going to ask the WH "Lions Dens" opinion on this one? As the story always goes I was searching 'that for sale site", usually looking for that rare old round hood and I came across this ....1997 Model 520xi Toro Workhorse, Number 73540 Kohler 20 hp, engine, Eaton 11 Hydro, 2 speed Uni-Drive® transaxle with a hydraulic lift 52" Side Discharge Mower. Seller is asking $600 and is selling due to moving from larger property to a small property across the country (He is the 2nd owner and has maintenance receipt's back to 2002 when he bought it. Last fall it had +$300 of service, (belts, blades, engine & transmission oils & filter changes. It runs good, no smoke, and has a few paint scrapes and the hood bottom front piece is broken, seat has cracks, tires seem good, Eaton transmission seemed to work OK but I did not get to get it hot and spin the tires with it against a tree, deck appears solid, reportedly garage kept. I really don't need a 52" deck and would end up putting my 42" on it. I'm a little concerned about all the electronic circuits on it (I sort of like the simplicity of my older 312 and C-160) I have a John Deere LT150 as my mower tractor that I could sell to my sister and almost be no money out of pocket. I've only physically seen one of these, so I'm a rookie on these later model WH's! I 'm on the fence of why this one interest me, so here's my questions: 1. Am I correct it does not have the "swept front axle"? (I've read most 97's do not) 2. It does not have power steering....would I regret that? 3. Am I correct that my current attachments that fit my 1985 312-8 (42" deck ,long frame doze blade, grader blade, and tiller) will fit this tractor (since they fit all 300, 400, 500 series tractor)? 4. WH are somewhat rare in my area which means there usually a little pricier, but they all do show up for sale over time. So if I want a newer model should I be holding out for power steering and a swept front axle? 5. Yes I have the WH addiction, but do ya'll see anything in the pictures and price that I'm missing

2 pointsI was thinking same thing wallfish should be able to jump in here. I would think that hydraulic shop should be able to identify it and recommend a replacement. I myself would question their ability if they could not come up with a pump for a simple front end loader. It's not like your asking something to control the space shuttle here.

-
2 pointsI never heard of it either, we got our first TV in about '56; only thing I remember is feeling cheated because the political conventions were on and for two weeks I didn't get to see any of the cool stuff the other kids had been telling me about.
