I'm finally getting around to pulling the diesel engine out of the Dxi to replace the injection pump, no small task but doable, hopefully all goes well and I be part of the oil burning xi crowd , here's as far as I've gotten in the last few weeks, as well as having the injectors rebuilt I have a new replacement pump ready to go in as well as most of the gaskets I had gotten late last summer from Matt @bowextreme , the radiator, fan shroud ,and engine mounts were the hardest part of the disassemble process so far, Jeff.

We used Saran Wrap or something like that on the 9" round Raytheon TV screen. What was amazing was that if you didn't draw the bridge over the river...he still made it across. Jim

We were too poor to buy the plastic sheet that you stuck to the TV screen, so my brother drew right on the TV screen.

When I brought my second WH home, my wife looked at me with that wife look and says "We're not a home for orphaned tractors". It was pretty funny.

I was 5 (1955) when we got a used 9" Zenith. The screen was so dim that we had to put a blanket over the TV and sit under the blanket to darken the room. Winky Dink came on Saturday mornings from 1953 to 1957.

To be a listed vendor here you must have at least two horses and one must be a Ride Away Senior that you narrowly snatched out of the hands of another member. Naw......just kidding....humor check .We would always welcome a member who has horse stuff for sale cause it's better than trying to get the stuff off Amazon and a whole lot better than that other popular auction site! Seriously pm one of the Mods (they're names are listed in blue) and they well get you started out on the right foot.

My first words are: Buy it! This actually a 1998 This 520xi is one of the five 5xi models offered by Toro Wheel Horse. I have a 520xi .along with a 518xi and 523Dxi. There was also a 520Lxi that had a water-cooled Kawasaki engine and power steering. The one downfall is that only the attachments made for the 5xi fit so your other Wheel Horse attachments won't fit. You won't be able to attach your 42" deck. I'm not sure how the widespread the marketplace was in your region for these tractors. It may affect finding other attachments, but they are out there. The plastic valance is probably cracked on 75% of these tractors. There actually is a sturdy steel bumper behind it. 1. Am I correct it does not have the "swept front axle"? (I've read most 97's do not) All of the 5xi models have a 52" wheelbase with the swept axle and a refined steering reduction system. It does have what they call "Smart Turn" which automatically, through a mechanical linkage, slows the tractor while turning. It was intended to keep the tractor from flipping if the operator had the cruise control engaged. 2. It does not have power steering....would I regret that? Two of my three do not have power steering. I actually find them to be more precise in driving. My Dxi has an additional 100 pounds on the front axle because of the diesel engine so I'm glad that one does. It is just personal preference. 3. Am I correct that my current attachments that fit my 1985 312-8 (42" deck ,long frame doze blade, grader blade, and tiller) will fit this tractor (since they fit all 300, 400, 500 series tractor)? The dozer blade may possible be able to be adapted but i am pretty sure the others won't without a lot of rework. The 52" is a good size deck for this tractor. 4. WH are somewhat rare in my area which means there usually a little pricier, but they all do show up for sale over time. So if I want a newer model should I be holding out for power steering and a swept front axle? I wouldn't hold out considering the price on this one. 5. Yes I have the WH addiction, but do ya'll see anything in the pictures and price that I'm missing Just check the hydro like you mentioned. Good luck and post any other questions.

I agree just for the pic uploads alone.

I personally think that is a very fair price. Someone could buy this and do it all with one tractor, but what kind of weirdo has one tractor? That would be just plain rediculous. I mean most people have around a dozen tractors don't they? Dennis help me out here!

Looking at several Wheel Horse Tractors Found a Late 80's fully restored (new powder Coat Paint and decals) 2 stage snow blower, plow blade, mower deck, chains, wheel weights, hitch weights, extra chute for blower, extra belt, LED lights and a Wheel House Vinyl Cab with an LED light bar. Owner states work done three years ago and 20Hp Onan Motor has only 550 hours. What would be the Top Price you guys would pay for this? I think his price is a bit high but then again, everything is good to go and it is really sweet looking. Are the 1990 forward models any better? This thing is in Show Condition!! Thanks For your input Kevin

Let's just say my 520xi with 60" deck clevis hitch and 1100 hours set me back twice that asking price and the paint isn't as shiny as that one, if you want the "Cadillac" of lawn mowers the xi are the ones and keep the classics for all your acquired attachments as I have a single stage and 2stage blower, cab, snow blade, tiller, 3 48" mower decks and a vacuum bagger for the 520H's ,then just the 48" and 60" deck and snow blade for the xi, with the possibility of a single stage thrower coming soon, Jeff.

Saw this pop up on C/L today... of course, I called within the first couple hours it was listed. Told the seller I had cash in hand, and was immediately getting on the road... only to have him call me back... within 5 minutes, mind you...to say it was no longer available. Oh well, at least he had the decency to save me the wasted trip.

I will be the exception to the rule. Limited space in my garage and a wife who is watching. So, in my defense, make one purchase and get everything at once. That way it's , well honey it all came with the purchase. It would be nice to have multiples

Here is some GT-1848 Work Horse eye candy that was on Ebay a few years ago. One year had in my opinion a nicer grey than the other years. If you like the smooth running twin automatics like I do, this is in my opinion the primo Work Horse model with the twin 18hp Briggs and the larger tires. This one is a beauty and if I recall it went for about a grand. Did anyone out there get it? :

The thing about the sniping tool technique is if you put your bid in first and hold to a high beyond what you think the item will actually go for, sometimes you can win the auction one increment above the required amount to raise the bid, whatever the last bid winds up (be it by $1, $10, $100, whatever). You'll almost never win trying to do it manually by watching the bids physically. If you do, you'll always be late in your bidding, and you'll be SOL.

I never heard of it either, we got our first TV in about '56; only thing I remember is feeling cheated because the political conventions were on and for two weeks I didn't get to see any of the cool stuff the other kids had been telling me about.

Evening all, As the title suggests I'm interested in knowing what model this tractor is. I have an idea but am seeking confirmation. Is it a good buy? The seller says: Welcome to our Auction of a Vintage Wheel Horse ??? . (Re-listed due to idiots who make bogus bids 😡) This is the model that every one wants but no one can seem to get ! The Wheel Horse ??? was working the last time it was used. But unfortunately it has lost its drive belt and it will need a fresh battery ! So is being sold a seen ! All four wheels are in great condition. This is a collectible item but will need restoration, a great project for an enthusiast Thanks in advance of all your ideas. Chris

    I like it ! She's a little ugly-duckling . I have a real soft spot for those ..... Mine was an hideous / buck-toothed mess when I brought her home .

I have 3 520H's and I'm hard pressed not to say they're my favorite but I also have 2 5xi's a 520xi like you're deciding on without power steering and a 60" deck after I brought it home in November I tried it out it steers just as easily if not better that the 520H with a 48" deck and also a smaller/tighter turning radius then of course shaft driven 2 range Eaton 11, better attachment lifts (if you can find attachments) and I hear the 52" is just about the best quality cut of the decks, my other 523Dxi ($800) I bought non running but in the process of correcting that so I haven't gotten to see the difference in non vs power assisted steering, have you pulled the engine shields to check for oil leaks the Kohler commands seem to be bad for? Other than that go buy it,Jeff. Yes B,C,3,4,500 attachments are all pretty much interchangeable, but the 5xi and 260 series are of a different design and it's just not your area even here where I live the xi series isn't around, even though I know where a N.O.S. unsold 522xi is still setting at my original dealer in WV,Jeff.

It's all good, must be my English roots, lol, or this new fangled phone, and if it hadn't been for their samples on some street/race car parts I wouldn't have gone this route from rusty like this to above,Jeff.

While you are racing over to buy it (or why aren't you?) do note: classic attachments do not fit and "xi" attachments are much harder to locate. Some of the 20hp Kawasaki had a plastic cam gear that disintegrate. I don't have access to the year & serial right now but I'm pretty sure that yours is not affected. I thought all the 520xis had power steering! Pretty sure only the classic style 520s has a swept axle but you're most likely referring to the reduction steering that some had. Never heard of the "xi" s having that. If indeed it does not have PS then don't ever ride one that does. It is wonderful! The "xi"s are not only physically bigger but in my opinion a big step up from the classics.

I'm more of a Kohler K-Series guy myself. Although we do have two Tecumsehs in the shop (my wife's Commando V8 and our Troy-Bilt Tomahawk chipper/shredder) and I can't complain cause both of them start on the second pull every time we need them. Keep telling myself I'm gonna order a new starter for the V8, then I look at the prices and decide the rope is a lot cheaper Now if I could just remember to quit leaving starter ropes laying around everywhere whenever I start the thing

I like to give wide ranges just because of the wide market. I only went up that high because of all the accessories included, never mean to drive up the market. (Just another reason i dislike whats it worth posts!) But yes, definitely a fair price, go get that!

My 16 hp Briggs Work Horse runs great. Never any problems. Knock on wood!! The 1642 was a barn find. Free to haul away, hadn't been used in ten years. Owners Mom flipped it. Sent to a dealer for fixing which included a new 48" SD deck. Cleaned up, new seat, oil, etc., etc., etc. Didn't like the all gray, belt guards are now Regal Red. Lug bolts gone. Just don't like 'em. Added the Dial-A-Height adjust for plowing. I don't believe the Dial-A-Height was sold with Work Horses.

Go to a Cub Cadet or John Deere dealer and price a comparable tractor with all that new. Whatever you pay for this WH you are looking at will seem like a great bargain! 2 more cents. Original condition is worth FAR more than reconditioned. Didn't say better, just worth far more. After what Craig wrote : GO BUY IT! RUN!

If you have a farm supply, decent hardware store, or TSC nearby, you should be to buy 10 feet of #40 chain for about $20.00. I have a 5xi single stage snowthrower and it is 32 links long. I can get two chains out of the 10 feet.

Someone beat Craig to a tractor ...I didn't think that was possible ! sorry for your bad luck ...let's just hope it was one of us guys so we can get it on the registry if it's a new find .
