My shop is a 26x26 slab with a 17x26 buildings and a 9x26 porch The porch has heavy beams in its ceiling for a 1000 lb HF winch. My blast cabinet and old 1960 craftsman table saw live on the porch. The building ceiling is 8'4" but the outer walls are 10 ft high. This gives a little side wall height to the upstairs loft which is 6'6" at the center The loft was the teen hangout and rock band headquarters for my 3 sons Its quiet storage now that their grown The porch gets a nice south breeze off the nearby lake. The stack of interior doors is getting a fresh coat of lacquer for a rent house I'm currently doing a major remodel on. Metal stairs from a battery of oil tanks lead to the upstairs I'm tall so high shelves free up wall space. I have several different size file cabinets for storage Workbench with File cabinet drawers 4x8x 16" deep cabinets for storage. A window AC was added this past summer it is well insulated and 2 small 1500 watt elect heaters keep it warm on the coldest Texas winter day. Yes my shop provides winter refuge for my wife's outdoor plants The drill press wood band saw and wood lathe are on the back wall left side of picture The air compressor and paint storage in this corner More high shelf storage and there usually is a 4x4 sheet of plywood on metal saw horses in the center with my latest projects Currents an almost finished dozer blade restore for a future dirt project and freshly blasted and primed suburban rims I also aquired this old garage station "Sun analyzer" cabinet last year and just added the heavy 2" planed crate wood oak top to it Thats the tour!

Looking at all these Garages/Shops and organization ideas made me think how I use to be able to walk around in my two car garage with small rear shop and workbench area BEFORE i had NINE Wheel Horses and several attachments, and sundry parts, motors, manuals, etc. Back in 2010/2011 , I could see , find and get to things quicker and without injury , bumps or bruises! Photos from this morning , six years later, near the end of 2016 area different story!

I change how I store my herd every year trying to better organize things. Here how the attached garage is used today. Ive added a hose reel under my bench so I don't have to deal with dragging the hose around and rolling it up. Also added electric plugs to the bench. Third picture shows how disorganized I usually am 😉 And here's some pictures of how I move items around and store them in the barn. I have an old cart used for banquet tables that I store parts on and use when I'm doing a restoration. The loft is 16' x 4' and provides more square feet for storage.

Found a couple of the sheds down the drive, i told the wife they were for wood storage but i sneeked a few parts in them.

Here's a few photos of my sheds, the first has 9 tractors, dump cart, 4 wheel trolley and a few other bits. the work shed has a small lathe, pillar drill and hydraulic tractor lift and a few bibs and bobs. the garage is home to the sawbench 2 more tractors and the Harley. theres 5 horse's outside and 3 or 4 in a shed down the drive. i work on the principle, the less space i have the easier it is to keep warm

I personally think that if you have the room for two garden tractors that one blower and one blade tractor is the way to go. I have that combo on a 300' total gravel drive length plus a healthy 30'x50' turn around area and I find it works great Mind you, I don't often add fresh gravel to mine and so it is nearly like a solid surface drive on much of it. I set the skid shoes at about 1.25" for height and blow everything that is 6" or more. Anything that is wet and sloppy or less than 6" gets the blade. The Blower does a much better job at tackling the heavy and or deep stuff but with my hydro turn blade, I can clean my whole drive in about 45 min vs 1.5 hours on the blower. If you are thinking $350 for a set of chains, you can probably buy another horse to fit your needs with a blade for that price (especially in PA!).

Thanks to all for the replies and to Jeff for clarifying it to me! I'll have to ask if another tractor that the previous owner owned had a single stage on it. It might go on the tractor that the person who brought it to me now owns!

I'd stay with the 42" blade Howard. A 48" will stack too much snow in front of it and cause the front end to slide to one side when you have the blade angled. 42" is good for the 8 hp Kohler on the 857. Wheel weights and chains should be all you need. 😉

The wife thinks I'm crazy bringing all these little red tractors home so asked if I got 1 little red tractor that was just a bit more capable/flexible then what? Answer ; "some could stay; the ones you have the most parts/attachments for and that you're most comfortable with , the ones you don't have to go before a new one shows up "...so with being said I think I found a great deal on a brand new sub compact 4x4 diesel with 60" mower deck, FEL, (available front hydraulic snow/grader blade, 2stage snow blower, soft cab) mid/front and rear pto, nearly as sharp turning radius in 4wd as a 520H (already test drove it), and the biggie it's RED with a 7 year power train warranty...Jeff
  11. 4 points
NO , not for the 2stage but for a single stage, as you can tell there's a cradle/frame and scissors type lift linkage with a smaller lift arm on the 2stage, on the single it's frame latches into the front attac-a-matic then that big pole attaches to the bottom of the auger housing/frame then under the tractor to the rock shaft,Jeff.

Yes (and no), there's a big mechanical advantage ––– you're using the large lever on the left plus a strong 'helper spring' (and a 'flag') underneath, so just your left arm while sitting can raise the snowblower easily. Ask him to keep searching and keep a big eye open –– it's those little small parts that are often left behind that have become so valuable and hard to find, and even harder to reproduce, like the small 'flag' and 'Spring', etc.

Yes it needs a 12VDC supply to run the battery powered ignition. The regulator also needs a power supply to turn it on so to speak before it can regulate the current produced by the stator. The regulator then monitors the battery voltage and regulates the stator current to maintain the designed parameters that are somewhere between 12v and 14v. If it is not there the regulator will run wild looking for it and probably destroy it's self along with other sensitive components. Some models had a decal on them warning about running without a battery installed. Became even more important when they went to magneto ignitions that would run without a battery. Garry

I have never really had a problem with wet heavy snow with the tall chute single and my 520H (unless it was DOT plow banks at the end of the drive) and my old driveway was dirt/sandstone/gravel, yes it was hard on the auger even with the skids set to high because of how uneven the lane/tracks were by winter, now with the 2stage no problems at all with wet heavy or DOT plow banks but I'm now on asphalt vs gravel (P.O. ran it on a gravel drive and see all kinds of gravel dents in the impeller drum, but never could push wet heavy snow like I throw/blow it just my , and past January in WV even my 4x4 Kioti with loader wasn't a good experience in 2' + and frozen on top, really needed the front blade (that I just finished converting for it last month) over the loader/rear blade combo,Jeff.

Got some snow today and my front tach-a-matic partially fell off. The vibration must of spun some of the bolts off and they must of been loose. Lucky I was pretty much done, but just a friendly reminder make sure everything is tight especially with snowblowers.

I had some time off over the holidays so I worked on the 606 a little. It was really light all the way around and almost impossible to keep the front on the ground so I loaded the rear tires and and bolted together a front bumper/weight hanger out of some scrap angle I had. I had an old weight I used on my 520 that fit the bill. To stay with the original paint/mild rat rod theme I decided to hit it with matte clear instead of painting it. The tractor definitely feels more planted. Other than reworking the seat I think I'm done. Although I may try to figure out a way to hang the generator on it. It uses almost no fuel compared to the 161 and the 314.

I can't believe I missed this thread! What great pictures and ideas. Now I know I must be normal cause mine is full as well. If the church ever returns the camera my wife loaned them (mine of course) I will post some pics. I have some from a while back you have seen in different threads of tractors but not the grand tour photo shoot that needs to be posted here.

Hi Guys, This is my B-145 that I converted to solar power. I had it at the 2016 Big Show and plan to be there in 2017. This is the only Wheel Horse on Earth that can operate on the Moon & Mars! Wheel Horse are now interplanetary! Someone posted pictures of it at the show in another post in this form.

12-29-1957 Pat Boone earns second #1 hit with “April Love” In the mid 1950s, two young men began their successful musical careers by bringing the sound of black rhythm-and-blues music to predominantly white mainstream-pop audiences. Both were steeped in religion and gospel music as boys, and both were raised in the segregated South, but one important barrier separated them in childhood: a set of railroad tracks. On the "wrong" side of the tracks in Tupelo, Mississippi, lived Elvis Presley, who would go on to become the King of Rock and Roll. On the "right" side in Nashville, Tennessee, lived Pat Boone, who would briefly rival Presley in terms of chart success, though in a style that never strayed from the conservative mainstream. On this day in 1957, in a year most people now associate with the music of early rockers like Elvis, the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly, Pat Boone earned the second of his three career #1 hits when "April Love" topped the Billboard pop chart. The gentle ballad "April Love" was the theme song from a long-forgotten 1957 film of the same name, starring Pat Boone as a delinquent kid from the rough streets of Chicago who finds true love on his uncle's Kentucky farm in the form of the neighbor's daughter, played by a young Shirley Jones. It was Boone's second film of the year, after Bernardine, and its theme song topped the charts just three weeks after the somewhat more raucous title tune from Elvis Presley's third film, Jailhouse Rock. Fully embraced by mainstream media and advertisers, Pat Boone had just become the host of ABC Television's The Pat Boone-Chevy Showroom variety show when "April Love" began its climb up the charts. From that point forward in Boone's hugely successful 1950s career, he continued to sing primarily mainstream ballads like "April Love" and his first #1 hit, "Love Letters In The Sand." Boone's breakthrough, however, had come in performing very different material: cover versions of black R&B hits that received little play on mainstream pop radio. While Boone was far from the only performer to engage in what critics would soon refer to as the "whitewashing" of raw R&B originals, he was one of the most successful at doing so. In fact, Pat Boone's earliest top-10 hits included cover versions of Fats Domino's "Ain't That A Shame" (1955) and Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally" and "Tutti Frutti" (both 1956). In the case of "Ain't That A Shame" and "Tutti Frutti," Pat Boone's cover versions charted higher than the originals.

Hello, all. I spent years mowing & moving snow with my Dad's Wheel Horses in the 60's and 70's, and my wife and I finally acquired our own. I don't know why it took us so long. Our cars include a 60 Buick Invicta Flattop, and a 52 Chevy pickup daily driver, so the 856 fits right in. The machine should be familiar to many, a 1966 856 previously owned by Joe W9JAB. It looks as good today as it did in his original pics from 2009. We found it on the Classifieds here. It needs some cleaning, and a few fixes, but it's a great running survivor. The purchase even included his famous 'Black Sabbath' snow blower - it came with "A Bit of Finger". www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/14915-careful-this-horse-bites/ We are looking forward to our new horse. Thanks Chuck & Sally

This was dropped off to me by the 520-H's previous owners friend. I asked him to go through the shed and garage to see if there were any other things painted red that might go with the tractor. It's about 4' long and heavy. Is this something Wheel Horse? He also found the missing pulley cover that goes on the mower deck and one tiller blade. Never hurts to ask!

AutoZone carries a gasket material called Kero-Pak...about $6 for a 1' x 3' x 1/32". The 1/32" thickness is the correct thickness for these transmissions. You can use the ball peen hammer method, or you can trace the inside and outside with the casting on the material and then cut with a knife. I like to leave about 1/4" around the outside...that gives you something to grab for adjusting the gasket. Trim with a razor knife when done. I think that $18 price is for a set of gaskets (2).

In the early days of rock there were a lot of things that scared white parents, Elvis' hip gyrations, Little Richard, Jerry Lee, white and black kids sitting next to each other at shows, worst yet dancing with each other. But for us rockers the scariest thing was watching Pat sing Tutti Frutti.
