8 pointsI saw this tractor for sale in June at the big show. I purchased it today from another RS member (thanks Bill). The tractor looks to have an old repaint or at least touch up. I felt that I would be able to get it looking pretty good and I really like the patina. So here is the process. 1- De grease and pressure wash 2- Wet sand all the flat tins using 320 grit wet sandpaper 3- Buff using heavy cutting compound and machine at slow speed so I do not burn through paint since it is pretty old and thin 4- Wipe all compound off with clean microfiber cloth 5- Wax and polish * If you still see sandpaper scratches then you need to re wet sand with higher (finer sandpaper like 400 and repeat process) I have a set of 520 ags 10.50 all mounted and painted antique white. I will put those on and also clean up the front rims and replace front tires with tri ribs I have. This should look pretty stout when done. My boy (Brennan bo) wants to try and pull in the spring so this may be the machine to do it. He will be in the under 10hp stock class. Dad may even give it a try too....
-
8 pointsNice day so I had them both out for some fresh air. Both of the 10hp tractors are running great. Makes me smile when I see a car or pickup go by and the driver does a double take looking at the tractors. I do think ACman is right about me being stuck in the 60's , as most of my tractors are from that decade.
-
7 pointsI believe that this was discussed sometime ago on here. I picked up some rear flush wheel weights from a friend that said his dad got them when he bought a tractor new back in the late 80's. The parts manual does list them as part 81117. I have never seen them before. So here's a pic of what I got. Has anyone ever seen these before?
-
6 pointsWell..Ed Kennell and West Virginia Hillbilly......I wanna thank you both for the insightfull wheel weight class,,,,,, today i mounted my plow and did the dual weight thing......Wheel Horse weights on the inside,,and my Bolens weights out side....11 inch bolts hold both sets on.// I use zip ties to keep the rear attachment clamps shut....and the same with the front one....or my plow hits it and dont stay up......all greased and air is adjusted,,, .Locking nuts were used,,,,,i zipped of the 1 1/2 of the 12" bolts i used...
-
6 pointsAlways thought they were Jacobsen weights... where mine came from. Heavy suckers too.

6 points@Digger 66 @AMC RULES @953 nut , I just reread my post I'm sorry for posting some of my personal problems . You guys probably think I'm a quack job with some of the things that I post ( i.e. My lawyers ) . But I assure you I only speak the truth of what I see and done . Before my accident I didn't speak up , I was quite and reserved . I've learned life is to short and anything can happen at any moment . I've learned to speak my mind no matter what others think . I'm sure the pharmaceutical companies have a pill that will "cure" me . My insurance company would love to give it to me so I'd just sit in a corner and drool waste away without fighting them for what I've paid for . I do have to say that there is some hope with technology and S.C.I (spinal cord injury) . There making great strides in bridging the gap from the brain to the injured nerves . But this also brings into question how far will it go with inter grating a computer and the brain together . There is good in this technology and could help a lot of good people , but what's stopping this technology from being used to control a whole person mind for other purposes "let's say an army of mindless soldiers" . This technology isn't in the future , it's already here and are running trials . Kind of scary if you ask me !

6 pointsCool story and memory. Our first rider was a Bradford Stinger...came from a department store called Grants in Manchester Connecticut. I would have been around 8 or 9 years old and my brother a couple years younger. We were home with my mom when the delivery guy from Grants dropped it off in our driveway. He gave my mom a lesson on how to use it and all its features while my brother and I stared on wide eyed at the coolest thing we had ever laid eyes on. I still remember to this day the last thing the delivery guy said....he turned to my brother and I and said in his deep scary voice " This is not a go-cart and neither of you kids should ever try to use it!". And then he was gone. He had dropped it off at the end of the driveway right in the middle of the driveway and my mom knew it had to be moved because my dad would be home soon. She turned the key a few times and it wouldn't even turn over....she looked at me and I said " I can do it". I jumped on and barely reached the pedal, the same pedal that mom was not pushing when she hit the key but I remembered the delivery guy saying that the pedal must be pushed to start. I hit the key and it fired right up and I drove it to the back yard proud as heck. Couldn't wait to tell dad at I was a pro at this tractor driving stuff and that I would gladly mow the whole yard!! Mike.....

5 pointsPicked up another Partial Lawn Ranger not too far from home . (Thanks to "Eagle Eye" Shynon down in Medford for pointing me in the right direction).... Pretty good shape considering it was sitting outside. I might just add the missing hood and engine, clean it up inside and out , oil it down and call it good.
-
5 pointsI used to scrap a bunch of those Bradford/MonteCarlo's I started out mowing 3 acres with a 604 and 32" deck.Used it until 1977 when we sold the house. Went thru 4 Tecky's mowing and plowing snow. I kept hoping my Dad would come home with something bigger. I remember drooling over pics of the D series when they came out.

4 pointsSo here she is. From what I gather a 633 should be a yank start but this one is an electric start....a conversion I'm assuming since the engine is absolutely correct for a 633 (model# and spec#). It's not perfect but shows well enough for this redneck. Drove it around the yard a few times and it seems to be fine. Came with a mowing deck that was not "cleaned up" but seems intact. Not sure if it's the correct deck or not....I'm not very well versed in the round hood stuff like I am with the 1970's and newer machines and attachments. Also has a well built but homemade bracket on the front that I assume was for weights. That'll probably be coming off. Pics of course! Mike.....

4 pointsGot mine from a JD dealer 65-75# ea (I made the aluminum "center caps") but they were rather thick almost bottomed out on the 520 wheels,Jeff.

4 pointsMike, that's a pretty rare horse you have there, it's the first one I have seen with the starter generator belt guard on the opposite side of the motor
-
4 pointsJust wanted to make sure it made it to the "Lawn Ranger King" I thought it was a pretty nice looking ranger with a lot of potential, glad to see you picked it up, besides I'm out of room.

3 pointsWas doing a little bit of reminiscing about the riding mower my folks had when I was a kid. . Hoping all the time Dad would come home with a nice garden tractor, I kept mowing lawn with our little Huffy Hawk 5hp riding mower..... With that little 24" deck I wish I had a dollar for every hour spent mowing our large city lot. It's a wonder the tranny held up at all.... I used to pop" Wheelies" with it all the time... In the late 60's one of the City workers would be mowing around the City water pump house with a Wheel Horse and ask if I wanted to race. lol Found this photo of a Huffy Hawk on the internet.

3 pointsJust picked up horse number 6. Came with 2 side discharge decks. Not sure what it is. I cannot find an I.D. Badge on it. I think it may be a Raider. It has high and low gears. Also has headlights and lens. Please feel free to make a suggestion if what it is or where I may find an I.D. Badge on this.

3 pointsYou have one of the very early production 953s. The steering wheel and steering box are different from the later units. Here is a picture of the one you need. Your steering box should be a Ross unit rather than a fan gear. Be sure to take lots of pix as you go along.

3 pointsMike....they are 8 inch wide rims,,,,,,and thanks for reminding my foggy head.....there are 2 inch spacers hiding in behind the rims...

3 pointsI remmber a guy I worked with about 20 yrs. ago had a pile of those Bradford/Monte's/Dynamark clones. My B I L and I went and filled the truck with them. He wanted them gone. I think we built 2 out of the pile and circular filed the rest. We did keep an 8 HP Briggsy floating around. One day we decided to see if it would run. We set it on a barrell hooked up a gas tank and some wires for the starter. Keep in mind there was no governor linkage or muffler on this beauty. We cranked it up and it literally took off. We forgot it being a mag ign. WE HAD NO WAY TO TURN IT OFF!!! VROOOOOMMM!!!!!!! My B I L still runs across a Dynamark to sell every year.
-
3 pointsI can remember mowing at my great-granddad's house with a DynaMark like this one when I was a kid. That was the same mower my mother wrecked by running into a steel corner post when she was about 15, she was mowing the yard and was paying more attention to the high school guys hauling wheat to the elevator across the road than she was to where she was going . I ended up with the mower after granddad passed away, mowed for quite a while with it around the barns and corrals at the farm...sadly it was inside our hay barn when it caught fire a few yrs back and was a total loss, I've always wanted to find another one like it
-
3 pointsThe first tractor my dad got was a Bradford/Monte Carlo 8hp. We had fun mowing tall grass and small trees with him. Sometimes he would borrow the neighbor's Wheel Horse for the heavy stuff. When my dad wasn't home we did wheelies and donuts in it! The trans-axle blew apart and when he was rebuilding it he said he wondered why that happened?

2 pointsHere is my semi-restoration project. I Just cleaned mine up a little and stripped all the sheet metal and repainted it. I used IH red paint color. I purchased this 520H at an auction a year ago for$400 it has a rock solid 62" most deck. I also have a 2 stage blower for it. I am waiting for my new bar tires. Thought I would share it here

2 pointsIf that is a GT-14, that is the correct setup for the independent 3 point lift. I have one like it!
-
2 pointsLike I said before...some companies made the carts, garden plows, weights and other accessories and painted them orange, yellow, blue, red and every other color in the rainbow with "brand correct" decals and we are now coming across some of them and wishing they were (mine) ours! Thanks for posting them.
-
2 pointsYes when angled it hits the front tires unless you extend the blade frame with the kit or the cheap way I did it, by adding a 3-4" extension(I used angle iron) between the angle head and mold board where the retaining pin is, also when the 42" wide is angled the snow/dirt/ect will exit right into/under the tire it's angled to I had to add extensions to to the mold board as well it now measures 50" wide, Jeff.

2 pointsKC, Craig was right again. I did a search they were made for Jacobson Chief. I like them to, that flush look. Glenn

2 pointsMy first memory of mowing is when I was 6/7 years old . We had a Case (should go dig it out of the poll barn , literally it's halfway buried from a woodchuck) I remember drawing on paper on how to do my lines . Then my brother showed me how to start it up and mow . Then I also remember going to our Allis Chalmers store and sitting on the 15-30 hp diesels scut's and wondering why we didn't have one at the farm . Grandpa loved to sell the new ones and we take the trades home and use them until he sold them . Maybe there was some thinking behind his madness . We always had a mower on the farm and we knew it worked before he resold it . Man I always wanted one of those AC5020's . It'll have to wait now because now I have a WH520 to play with !

2 pointsAt the end of the original article you'll find the following is posted... I am truly amazed at how people take all Face book posts at face value when they know that Facebook is a platform of sharing and forwarding. Just run a search to find who is the original author of this article and you will find hundreds of them. Since I could not identify a single authentic writer, I decided to share the same as it is "Not as Mine"; but for people to read and broaden their horizons. One small advise... Take it or Leave it... "Listen/ read to Respond not React". What is the difference in responding and reacting? While the distinction may seem to be one of semantics, the impact of each in your life can be huge because reacting is an instinctual behavior directed by the reptilian brain, and responding is a conscious choice involving input from the more evolved brain. Time permitting, please read the book, Just One Thing: Developing a Buddha Brain One Simple Practice at a Time in which Rick Hanson explains how the two differ in your brain.

2 pointsAs far as I know it's the smallest "looking" ....Has the same size hood, frame, belt guard and unidrive as the 60's short frames. Just that the Lawn Ranger is equipped with a different hood stand , rear fenders('62-'64)rear fender pan and support section and steering wheel ('65-'68) Just to name a few. Lawn ranger mower decks and snow plows are made specifically for the Lawn rangers and are the only two implements, that I know of, made only for these Model tractors. Someday I'd like to do some pics of the different Lawn Rangers for people to see the differences. Very simple tractors and one of my favorite models

2 pointsI got two of my horses ready for snow today. My 520HC with the blower and my C120 with a 48 inch blade. I tried to put the 42 inch blade from my 876 on my 1968 Commando 8 but the rear tires are too close together measuring 15 1/2 inches apart from inside of tires at the widest point on the sidewall. I measured the width between the tires on the 876 at the same place on the tires and it measures 19 1/2 inches so it's 4 inches wider than the Commando. I never knew there was a difference. I guess I need to look for a narrow short frame blade for the Commando. The 1955 - 2000 attachment interchange lists the 876 blade as part number BD4267 and the Commando blade as 6-4111.

2 pointsPeople have probably been saying this for hundreds of years . "A machine will never replace MY team of horses......" Things are relative here and will always be . That is until computers themselves start desigining themselves . Then the human race will be squashed like ants . Something to look forward to ... I guess

2 pointsFinally Project Jr. is drivable this it before we test drove this beast She is ready to go after he over 20 year nap. tommarow the decals, different muffler, tuning and get the steeing wheel to fit on. How do i get the wheel to fit on the steering shaft it stuck on there but i cant get it off.
-
2 pointsBelieve the sprocket is available as for chain it is cheaper to go to TSC or motion industries over ordering from TORO. In a 10' box of #40 chain you will get enough to replace it twice for for around half the cost.
-
2 pointsWith tinted windows, a tool box and the back-rack there is no way to get a rear view mirror shot...so for now a side mirror shot will have to do. Mike.....

2 pointsMe personally , I hope I'm dead and gone before all this happens . I really do hope I don't have any grandchildren , so they don't have to deal with this crap hole of the world we live in now . These smart phones are just making kids stupider , because they don't have to think about answer , they just google it . The country is being run by energy co. , banks , pharmaceutical co. , and insurance companies lining the pocketbooks of politicians ! Look and see who your congressman and senator's biggest contributors are . I've seen this firsthand testifying at a hearing at the capital and l wanted to see who their biggest contributors were , guess who , insurance companies .I've been warned by my lawyers to stay off the Computer because the insurance company uses algorithms and they just keep getting more advanced to keep track of me and my families every move . What do they think , I'm just going to get up and walk . I constantly feel like I'm under a microscope and have to watch my every move and how I word things . As careful as I am I'm sure they've already found me on this forum. It seems that more technology becomes available the less freedoms we have . It's scary to think how easy it is to keep track of someone. When and if the world economy implodes guess who was going to survive. It's going to be the people of Third World countries and self-reliant people who don't use technology and do things with their brains , hands , and can live off the land . Sorry for the rant, just my ! Believe me I hate talking politics and religion and I feel everybody has the right to think and say what they want . This is the U.SA. Mods feel free to delete this if it's too political , but this forum is the best head therapy I've found . It's what keeps me sane !
