Hey guys, I'm worn out - took my 2nd graders on a field trip today! Just wanted to share a couple pics of Emory's 60 and 61 suburbans along with my 61 rat rod. We got them out to play with yesterday. Had to have a little horse play! Even mowed the side of the driveway with Emory's 60.

1966 lawn ranger i picked up for $200.00. The guy was a John Deere only fan and said it was taking up space. It starts runs and drives great and shifts extremely smooth. It also came with a cutting deck.i'm really happy with it

November 3rd ... can't believe the weather in northeast Ohio! Should be snowing. 78 degrees and sunny! Haven't even had a frost. Nothing like aerating in sneakers and shorts three weeks before Thanksgiving.

Been a while since I last posted regularly, but have kept busy and as I've now been able to renew my Supporter-ship, I can post pics as well . Because my 2 WHs don't get worked over winter ( often no snow in S.E. England), I wanted to sort a way to prep them for storage. Also, as I had other maintenance jobs to do on both which involved Carbs/ New Fuel Pumps and new Inline Filters, I decided to fit Fuel drain systems to them both. I obtained 2 Fuel Taps which needed to have one inlet machined and threaded- These were to screw into fabricated Copper 'T' pieces, as this would only need 2 extra hose clamps . Only other thing to do was to make up a short bracket to secure the Tap to an existing convenient point out of the way and at the lowest point in the Fuel System- So I can now drain both systems, and I can prime the system by leaving the Tank Valve closed while I pump fuel to the Pump and Carb first. Then open the Tank Valve and pump fuel in up to the Tank which eliminates any Air Locks at the same time. Once Fuel shows in the Tank, I just close the valve and finish filling the Tank as normal. Both fired up after only a few seconds of turning on the Starter........I'm sure others have done this, but thought it may be of interest to some.

Ok guys, you got me. I have bad ankles ... flat feet, tendonitis, will require surgery some day. There are days when it hurts too badly to fully depress the clutch pedal. On those days, the bracket below the engine is one end of a double pulley I attach to the clutch pedal. I thread a rope with a handle through the pulleys and before you know it I have a hand-clutch. Not pretty, but it works! I guess if the rope is long enough, my wife could use it as a tensioner on her clothes line !!!

So now that I got my stables up I got my long awaited forge running Sorry for the sideways pics and it's still a mess trying to organize from two smaller sheds to the new stables. But the forge is running So now I consider some of the more rare parts that may be cast or forged maybe you guys can help me list a few and use pics to help everyone know which parts your thinking. first that comes to my mind was those hard to find always falling off hood ornaments! foot pedals lol sorry I don't have pics for those yet

Well, your explanation is better than mine. I thought it was for when Lassie came home barking for us to follow her, we could use it to drop a line for Timmy, who is down the well again.

We all can come across "snarky" when we post, even though our intentions aren't. Most of the times our typed words will come across as harsh when in reality we don't mean them to be. That's why we have smilies, emoticons, or whatever the new term is now. I have been accused of not using them enough, so maybe I need to add a few here.

11-3-1998 The Body is elected governor of Minnesota On November 3, 1998, former professional wrestler Jesse “The Body” Ventura is elected governor of Minnesota with 37 percent of the vote. His opponents, seasoned politicians Hubert Humphrey III (son of Lyndon Johnson’s vice-president and the attorney general of Minnesota) and St. Paul mayor Norm Coleman, spent a total of $4.3 million on their campaigns. Ventura, the Reform-Party candidate, spent $250,000—money he raised by selling $22 t-shirts and accepting $50 donations from his supporters. His only political experience had been his years as mayor of Brooklyn Park, a suburb of Minneapolis, but his laid-back, straight-talking, libertarian approach to politics resonated with many Minnesotans—especially young men who had never voted before. “I voted for Jesse because he was the most honest,” one young constituent told a reporter for Newsweek. “If he doesn’t know something, he says he doesn’t know.” During his pro wrestling career, Ventura had always been the bad guy: He wore tie-dyed outfits, feather boas and garish sunglasses, and he loudly and profanely heckled his opponents. “The Body” was shamelessly dishonest—his motto was “Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat.” Ventura used some of his character’s familiar flamboyance in his gubernatorial campaign. In one ad, he wore only a pair of gym shorts and sat contemplatively, emulating Rodin’s The Thinker, while opera played in the background. In another, a Jesse Ventura action figure (cobbled together from existing dolls that a staffer found in a store, it had the body of Batman and the head of World War II General Omar Bradley) trounced Evil Special Interest Man. But when he got elected, he promised to take the job seriously. “I don’t want to cheapen the office,” he said. “I’m not about to turn it into some dog-and-pony show.” Some of his accomplishments as governor were popular: He managed to pass a light-rail plan for the Twin Cities, drafted a novel property-tax reform package and sent tax rebates, called “Jesse Checks,” to voters every year for three years.

What Mike said! But don't forget about filling tires! Doesn't have to be corrosive calcium chloride! RV antifreeze is cheap and still adds quite a bit of weight. A pair of tubes, some RV antifreeze and a tire filler bleeder valve is still cheaper than you can usually buy weights. AND! You can STILL add weights!

Cast your lead in a 10 inch fry pan. Then drill and bolt them to your rear wheels. Wayne
  20. 4 points
I'm not a fan of hanging weights off the rear of our Wheel Horses. First off it will lighten the front end. Second it puts all that added weight on the rear axle bearings. Weights mound in the rear rim don't do either of those things. Mike......

Thank you for that Ed....... Now I don't have to post an old man picture of me in shorts and a tee. We did each other and the forum a big favor......

Never too soon to start planning Howard. I say a definite yes on the mash pole. @stevasaurus has my sign and I'm looking forward to seeing it on the pole again and even more so, seeing everyone again.

Good innovative thinking Al...never would've thought of it but it works that's the main thing
  27. 3 points
Yes they finally are done! Absolutely you can shift on the fly Jim however I don't recommend it, a person should still stop to shift. However should you want to I could have Terry make up some B&M or Hurst shifter decals for 3rd gear if you'd like.

Two years of Wheel Horse fun ... chasing parts ... chasing horses ... obsessively checking CL for implements ... watching YouTube video's ... The, day, has, arrived. Presenting, (drum roll please) my first furrow. I now own a garden tractor instead of a garden lawn mower. Don't laugh! Practice will make perfect one day!

"I was talking to The Donald and he told me he has hands this big" "Gee Joe, he could play tight end for the Browns!"
  35. 2 points
I noticed the bracket below the engine also. I'm going to guess it's to run a rope through to operate a tow behind implement. Maybe a spreader or something. Also looks like you might tie a rope to hand operate the pedal. ??

OK, the beta version has been completed. I'm already going to revise the way I do the logo and the red border. It's going to be much better! But, anyway, here's the first version. I used the masking ability of the paper on the acrylic for paint. I got a little giddy and wanted to see the finished product but the paint was still a little tacky. My next version will be perfect. I know exactly how I'm going to do it. I'll bang out the new one tomorrow. I'll do the redesign tonight. Should have something to install on the tractor tomorrow!
  37. 2 points
Al, that's a dandy SK-486 you have there, and yes the weather has been great. But I have a question about your tractor. There is a bar with a bend in it just below the engine and it has a small pulley on the end of it. I have never seen this before and would like to know what it is for. Is this a home made device with some specific purpose? Now don't make fun of me guys, I'm trying to learn something here. I've seen a lot of things on our machines that I didn't know the purpose of but I haven't seen everything.

You didn't say what year, if it is not a '69 do a search in the manuals section.

Your 1996 wouldn't have maroon stripes. Those were late 80s Wheel Horses. As mentioned, Toro went with black stripes starting in 1990.
  40. 2 points
I know the Wheel Horse dealer in Desoto, Missouri has a bone yard behind their store. I would imagine other Toro dealers might, so that could be a place to look.
  41. 2 points
A Magnum motor with the maroon stripes makes it a 1987-1989 model I believe. I think the hood stripes were black starting in 1990. The price of 2K seems steep to me. Mike........

From the size of the front wheels I think it might be a 14 hp.... probably a 700 to 900 dollar tractor with mower deck - don't know what the vacuum would be worth..
  44. 2 points
I think that would be easy to make. A little bit of work to make the tool for the press. Maybe I'll try to locate a crappy one to copy.

We were just trying to keep you from buying all the horse parts in the country Dennis!! Seriously tho have a deal pending with A-Z but lots of other members here have parts too. @smokin joe, @Kelly come to mind. I prefer to do business with members here cause most if not all are strait shooters. Do what I just did Muz... put a post in wanted for stuff you need for a refresh or resto and you should get plenty of responses ... example Tom, @shynon just happened to have some stuff from his personal stash and I will be meeting up with him a couple of weeks for a tractor score so his shipping is great! Check the vendors section as well!

The Deestones I bought said they were 6 ply "RATED". I pushed two heavy snows that were 8 inches deep on a 400 foot driveway and did a little tilling the next spring and the lugs are nearly gone. Here is a picture of them new and they weren't that big/deep of lugs to start with, imagine half of that lug worn down, yeah. The Deestones were half the price of the Intercos, but after lasting barely two years they were a terrible buy. I paid 142.00 apiece for the Interco delivered to the door, I will never wear them out, that is what I call cost effective, and a deal. The Deestones look nice and I suppose if you don't actually use your tractor they might last a while, but I hardly overworked them and they were dead dogs. The felling of the savings disappeared about as quick as the lugs did.
