A week or so back I acquired a C-81 which came with a tiller. So, being the person I am, I took all the tiller attachments off the C-81 and added them to my 310-8 . My back yard needed reseeding so i did the next best thing, I tilled the who yard ! I set the depth maybe an inch or more on the 1st pass then reset it to about 1/2 inch for the 2nd pass. This thing can really dig up some soil, holy molly. The thing works great but is not real friendly to attach to the rear hook-up, plus you have to remove the hitch. But for once a year , or maybe never again, it was worth messing with it. I don't have a garden and have no plans for one. I guess I can check the "tiller" box on the Wheel Horse need to do checklist now !

This ole girl followed me home last Sunday. Did a little horse trading for it. Drove it on the trailer and off....then went to put it in the garage and wouldn't move. Immediately thought the Hydro went out....but thought that was awful quick. Got it to the garage and lifted the seat pan to notice the right rear hub was almost off axle shaft. Someone replaced the hub but only put 1 set screw (bolt) back in AND didn't put the woodruff key in. So, got it fixed and back together. She runs, drives, and mows really well. Only thing needed now is decals and lights. Oh...new drive belt is on the way as the current one likes to twist inside out. Noticed it has been installed wrong when belt guard was put on. Still a nice Horse. Came with weights, chains, snow plow, and deck.

10-7-1960 CBS broadcasts the premiere episode of “Route 66” On October 7, 1960, the first episode of the one-hour television drama “Route 66″airs on CBS. The program had a simple premise: It followed two young men, Buz Murdock and Tod Stiles, as they drove across the country in an inherited Corvette (Chevrolet was one of the show’s sponsors), doing odd jobs and looking for adventure. According to the show’s creator and writer, Stirling Silliphant (best known for his acclaimed “Naked City,” an earlier TV series), Buz and Tod were really on a journey in search of themselves. “Call ‘Route 66′ ‘Pilgrim’s Progress,'” Silliphant told a reporter. “The motive power driving our two characters is not a Corvette: it is the desire for knowledge–and for sentience; it is a quest through the perennially fascinating cosmos of personal identity.” “Route 66″ was different from every other show on television. For one thing, it was shot on location all over the United States instead of in a studio. By the time its run was up in 1964, the show’s cast and crew had traveled from Maine to Florida and from Los Angeles to Toronto: In all, they taped 116 episodes in 25 states. (Silliphant himself arrived at all the show’s locations six weeks before anyone else. When he got there, he would acquaint himself with local culture and write the scripts on-site.) The show was a serious drama with social-realist pretensions, but its nomadic premise meant that it could tackle a new issue–war, mental illness, religion, murder, drug addiction, drought–every week. By contrast, police procedurals and hospital dramas necessarily had a more limited range. The show’s stark black-and-white cinematography was likewise suited to its serious tone.

Yours looks to be in good condition. A little lipstick and polish on that horse will go a long way. After I saw this picture, I decided I needed to add one to my collection and I did: The C-160 with the coveted big block Kohler is one of the finest. Imagine someone throwing this away.

Well, you guys were right! I bought a small polisher, and WOW! What a difference. Very pleased with the results, and will continue on with each of my pieces. Just glad that I don't have to strip and start all over. Have a look for yourselves. FENDER BEFORE: FENDER AFTER: RECOIL BEFORE: RECOIL AFTER: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Guys!!! You're the BEST!! The only other thing that I was able to accomplish lately was starting on the hood. Will take a little bit of time to get it built up and smoothed out, but hopefully it will be just as nice as the rest of the tractor when I'm done.

Its unreal someone would take this to a scrap yard. Hell, stick it out front with a sign saying "Free" if you don't want it. Just the engine alone in running condition is worth several hundred. Thank you for saving this fine machine from such a fate!

I have found over the past 55 years that you don't need to spell check, there are more that enough people out there who will do it for you .

Are you kidding me???? If you can't be part of the solution, please don't be part of the problem. At no time was that comment ever necessary! Sorry Karl..........this is one of the reasons some folks are unwilling to stick their neck out to help.

well a workhorse gt-1642 followed me home 2 nights ago. its really rusty and no engine. its going to be parted out i think so if anyone needs parts off it let me know that are local to me. i only got it because i needed its transmission and maybe couple other things. it had new fan gear section put in i would say around 10 years ago and engine never went back on.

I had a dedicated Wheel Horse tractor for tilling, that is until my friend Bruce borrowed my tiller......... He says I can borrow it back anytime I need it I'm glad he didn't want to borrow the tractor too !

Don't worry Scott...that comment will be remembered. Let's hope he never makes a spelling error on my shift. Mike.....

The Wheel Horse tiller takes a while to install -no denying. That's why some own a "dedicated" tractor for the tiller attachment! Once installed it does the job just like you showed on your lawn Tonyp! Video of Garden Tilling : 241.MOV

The C-160 is my choice of Wheelhorse tractors. Is it an 8-speed trans, or an automatic. There is so much you can do with this and a lot of attachments for it too. Dozer blade, rototiller, mower decks, moldboard plow, harrow.... etc. First made in 1973 known as the '16hp Auto', in 1974 it is designated as the C-160 and ran thru production year 1977. GRRRRREAT old tractort...wish I had two of them. I spent the last day and a half getting the 655 much closer to completion! I was able to get a plate made and painted to adapt the new motors bolt pattern, got the motor installed, throttle cable installed, I tightened up the steering by replacing a bolt the PO had put in there with a proper roll pin, changed the uni-drive oil, made a temporary belt, and got a seat put on. Sure enough I put some gas and oil in the engine and she runs good! It is a lot of fun to finally drive it, I spent about an hour doing that today around the yard. My list of things I still need to do before I a truly done: - Proper belt - Re-work belt cover to fit the new egine - Paint the snow plow and mower deck - Repaint the hood - Repaint the front rims - Get a set of proper decals - Touch up misc paint

Really there can be so many qualifiers... do you want Wheel Horse branded implements, or include allied attachments (like the Danuser Forklift for GT14?), or include additional aftermarket non-allied attachments (like the Bachtold Fenceline Mower?) I would say let's just get some posted up and see where it goes from there. These are pretty hard to come by. It's far from the rarest though. I know of about 5 including mine. I'm a month into the project, been a lot of work taking parts down to bare metal. Still got a ways to go, I'm guessing another month or so before I'm done if all goes as planned. "Maybe two" depending on the weather, $$$ and temperatures. Still got some parts painted & ready to install, lots of parts left to paint and detail including outer sheet metal and motor. Today was the first day in a month since it has seen wheels. Wiring harness has some issues I gotta try to sort out. Wanted to share my progress, slow going but steady. My Wife has been great pitching in sanding, priming, painting or whatever to help out.

I've modded before on a couple sites but later withdrew. You lose friends . Period . It's a tough , thankless job & you really have to be able to "watch" the site from the 3rd person view . I don't think I'm ready to do it again .

One of the added benefits of the WH tiller is rather than fight a walk behind tiller, you can enjoy a cold beverage and get more done. JAinVA

The tiller comes handy if you want to level the ground in area of ur yard. Just till it up and take a dozer blade if you have one and scrap it off.

A couple of us have experienced the woodruff keys ceased to point they just won't come out. Ztnoo and I both havez bothe on the drivers right side for some reason. I am currently fighting one so I thought I'd add a pic. The woodruff key us to come out to safely install new axle seals. As such, the key itself needs to be planned for as they are no longer easily replaced. And when all else fails, the only way to get these out has been to cut a relief cut down the center.

Hmmm. I didn't take that into consideration. The tire in question has a wealth of dry rot. Richard. Thanks for the confidence! This one starts and runs currently. In fact I had it fired up within hours of getting it home. The only thing holding me back from mowing is the tire, an odd ignition problem that I can't get figured out and putting gear oil in the rear end after I replace the shift boot. All I really need is one solid day to work on it and it'll be knocking down the coastal around the house. Richard.

This is exactly why I post the questions in Lieu of doing the search....I enjoy reading all this banter. now why is it that manufacturers never use anti seize, I'd be willing to pay a few extra bucks for a product knowing I won't be throwing tools around the yard in frustration.

Since you may know the person who decide to scrap the C-160 I won't say much except someone should kick his or her butt. It looks pretty clean and not beat up . Go to the manual section of the forum and you should be able to down load an owners manual , parts list and info on the Kohler motor. Of course ask questions the guys on the forum love to help and they love pictures. Not sure they some of them passed Reading in school By the way O if you have a neighbor that brags about his great mower from the " Box store" hook a chain to his mower and one to yours and see how many times you can pull him around the yard backwards.

Came home for lunch and decided to add some pressure to this rig while I was here. Viola! It may not be obvious but this hub is now broken free and has mover at least a couple inches. I'll free it completely later after work. This is the closest I have come to this hydraulic puller not working. Took approximately two full days of soaking with multiple products. First I tried "In-Force", then "Kroil" and lastly "PB Blaster" For hubs, PB Blaster ha proven most affective for me. u

Others will confirm but my understanding is that most all "Tach-a-Matics" decks will fit any tractor that has the "Tach-a-Matics" mountings. Includes the C-Series, 300, 400 and 500s.

Yup. Perfect fit. Attachments from 1973 through 2007 will fit.

Hello everyone, I'm back! It has been a busy few months for me, I got my other two big restoration projects finished over the summer and so I finally was able to turn my attention back to the 655. I have spent a few days the three weeks working on it, I got the body stripped down, straightened out (best I could), primed and painted. I used Majic IH Red paint with hardener and sprayed it with my HVLP gun. It came out pretty good with only a few spots here and there that only I will see. I was able to change the front tires and tubes, it was much harder than I was expecting to do. Ended up taking it to a friends shop to use their tire changing machine. The steering wheel was very dirty with years of built up grime, I was able to clean it with slightly abrasive cleaner wax for boats. The wheels I painted with leftover paint from one of my other projects, but the front wheels defiantly need to be touched up after changing the tires. That is about where I am at now in the project, not much left to do besides install the engine controls, and a few small parts.

Well I've alway's wanted the post hole auger for the GT14.

Definitely no walk in the park:-) i had had to cut this 95 plus percent through before I was able to get it to break free. I do believe it's probably best to take the hubs off occasionally, clean everything up, wipe anti-seize liberally and prevent recurrence as opposed to repair for sure!

Give Tulsa Engine Warehouse a try, give them your specs and if there is a CH730 with your specs they will find it. Kohler made the 730 to meet hundreds of specs, there could very well be one out there that will work. I have used TEW and they did very good work getting a replacement engine for our stump grinder. I believe if you go to their website there is a form to fill out with your needs, fill it out and send it. They will get back to you within a day or two after they do the research.. Good luck.
