11 pointsGuys, I've known of the location of this tractor for three or four years now. Kept telling myself "one of these days I'll stop and ask about that old tractor". One day not too long ago I actually did stop but could not get anyone to answer the door. The tractor was nearly impossible to see from the street unless it was winter time as the plant growth kept it pretty well hidden. I have no idea how long it has sat outside in the postion I found it. A long time I'm sure. Anyway, I was down at the Mentone show/swapmeet (just south of Elkhart about thirty-five miles) on Friday and got to thinking about the old tractor and decided to stop again to check on it and to find out if it was for sale. An elderly lady answered the door this time and I introduced myself to her and explained why I had stopped. I asked her if she or her husband would consider selling the tractor to me and she said "my husband died about a year and a half ago so lets walk back there and you can show me what you're talking about. So we walked through her house, out through her enclosed patio, across her garden patio, and then were able to see the tractor. I said "that's the tractor I was talking about". She said "that ol thing? You can have that! I've been wanting it out of here for a long time. My daughter's been complaining about it cause she's always having to mow around it. Just come get it and get it out of here!" ............I was stunned! The next morning at the restaraunt I go to every Saturday for breakfast I was telling all the boys at the BS table that I had been given a tractor out in the south part of Elkhart that I had spotted several years ago. One of the fellows who has a few early Wheel Horses himself said "there was a guy out south a ways that had an old Wheel Horse that everybody and their brother has tried to buy but he would not sell it for love nor money. He passed away a while back. His name was Becker." I looked at the name of the lady who owned the tractor that I had written down along with her phone number. Sure enough her name was Becker. I told my buddy "That's the one!" Then the conversation lit up. He said "You got to be kidding!" I said "Hey, right place right time!" ............................Guy's this kind of thing doesn't happen to me, always the other guy! Anyway it looks to be quite complete. Has all original tires, original seat, and still had the key hanging in the ignition switch. But above all the engine is not stuck! Will be quite a challenge but a lot of fun too! Gary

10 pointsDid some trading with good buddy Stevebo and I came home with this beast of a 69 Economy. I've had my eye on this one for quite a few yrs. now and I'm very grateful to Steve that I now own it. This is now the fourth Economy that I have owned thru the yrs so I know first hand what they are capable of, which is just about anything.. Since I got it to my house I have only touched up a few rust spots that blended in quite well with the original paint and some general cleaning. The plan is to leave it original. I will mainly use it to haul fire wood and to clear my road when it snows. Some guys know, I live in a private community on top of a mountain. When it snows we are the last to get plowed out,. It really sucks when we get the ongoing storms with big amounts of snow as they don't maintain the roads as the storm is happening so its not unusual to see well over a foot of snow on my road thru-out the day. A few years ago we had all of our roads freshly paved and the Wheel Horse struggled on the fresh pavement. I hate for anyone to see me struggling so the new Snow Commander will really help out in that area. More than anything it it keeps me out of the house and I get to enjoy a good cigar... I have the two side by side so you get an idea of the size and weight difference.

8 pointsLet it be known! Transportation of a "Wheel Horse", complete or parts thereof, out of the State of New York is specifically and completely prohibited and has been since May 28th 2015! Penalties are substantial! Border Patrols are and have been on alert to such actions and are trained to retaliate with necessary force if required. Transportation of before said "Wheel Horses" complete or parts thereof into the State of New York is perfectly legal and has been since the early 1960s. May God be with those that choose to violate the laws of this fine State!

8 pointsI thought this was worthy: http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/tool-miniatures-william-r-robertson-51427?tooltalk1#post74392 How'd he make that folding rule?

7 pointsAdded a nice HL-5 to my newly acquired 701. The lights are not exact HL but very close. Ron Greco is working on finding me a replacement lens for the correct lights. The lights came from Scott and have an extension which I have never seen.

7 pointswell finally got this 1976 C 120 bought for 300 bucks as is. pick it up latter this week. turned the 10 hrse over by hand and it does have great compression yet . has firestone ags on rear and a tiller lift bracket on back. also has 48 inch deck that is in great condition solid no holes. this machine is complete no parts missing. plan is to get it running and use it this fall then tear it down this winter and do a complete restore. the lens on the front headlight is broke anyone on here make reproductions? the headlight bucket fine just lens is broke. also what wheel color does the C series have from factory white or almond? was at my local wheel horse dealer asking about this tractor and the gentleman says he knew the original owner of this tractor and remembers when he bought it new from him. also he told me he may still have all the service records for it. it was dealer serviced by him every year. he also remembers he did a complete engine overhaul in the late eighties on this tractor. just amazing how this old guy in his late seventies remembers all this and this specific tractor.

7 pointsBe sure you have a "New York State Certificate of Origin" so the Pennsylvania authorities don't hang you for horse rustling as you attempt to cross the state line into Virginia!
-
7 pointsGet well soon! This is possibly the best $20.00 (with coupon) I've spent at HarborFreight. My tractors and mowers go up and down the ramps without me.

6 pointsWas so ready to spend my Birthday at the Meet and Greet, Was loading C-160 into bed of Truck and safety strap on Ramp breaks, Ramp falls out from under me just as the front wheels got in the bed, so 160 and I do a sideways flip, luckily I guess it landed on me so she didn't get hurt real bad, broken stack, broke streering spindle, bent seat, some Minor scratches. I got no broken bones but gonna be a few more days before before I move a lot. So looking at the pic.s of this yr. and planning next yr.s Trip, on a Trailer. Sorry I missed ya'll.

6 pointsSure am glad I rustled mine prior to the effective date of this capricious legislation!

4 pointsBe forewarned Howard&Jay... the Mason Dixon is a long dance away from NY.

4 pointsCut the bad spots out and sandblasted the rl-426 mowing deck. Welded in new patches and new diverter wall. Put Belzona (Metal and ceramic epoxy) on the underside of the deck. Primed and painted the outside. The Belzona was pretty expensive so I only used it on the high impact/abrasion areas. The towers and the back side of the diverter wall will be primed and painted to protect them from corrosion. Towers have new seals and bearings. I bought new belts for it and all new hardwear. Should be ready by Wednesday for her first run in the yard.

4 pointsWhen you look at the first few calendars, most of them had people in them...of course it was a much smaller membership group. Nothing wrong with people in the pictures...I would shy away from cars with license plates showing and maybe house numbers. In other words, just be aware of what is in the background when you shoot these pictures...this is social media. Being careful is not a bad thing. Glenn those pictures are outstanding, and I personally don't see anything wrong with any of them. They are worthy of consideration for the calendar.

4 pointsMade and early morning run south over the border ( @WHX7 no cheese involved here ) and did a little horse trading and this is what I came home with. 603 looks to be a barn find with no motor. Patina is very nice, sheet metal is good, plan is to keep it original with the addition of a 6 1/4hp kohler with an updraft carb, will it still be considered a 603? Have to fix the steering shaft as the PO cobble up some kind of arm connected to the tie rods and it is very sloppy and welded one of the steering arms to the spindle Have not done much research yet, anyone know how many 603's were produced? Are the throttle and choke original and correct? Steering wheel is in good shape. Thanks for looking.

4 pointsJust don't come into Missouri, or for that matter, Illinois. We hang 'em high here.
-
4 pointsWow. I know how you feel having had a similar experience, and I still have the scars to prove it. Tractors can always be fixed. Glad you didn't get hurt worse.
-
4 pointsSo glad your ok! Those ramps can get ya!! I just about didn't make it myself, tow rig broke down 20 miles into the trip and had to turn around and limp home at 25mph. Got in my car and made it anyway. Met some really nice folks, and hope to do it again! Randy
-
4 pointsI bet it's a great snow blowing machine. If ya think about it snow plowing is hard on the tranny and the frame so a genuine GT is the best choice. But a tractor mounted snow-blower is much less abusive. You shouldnt be ramming snow banks with a blower so all you really need is enough HP and traction. So my question is....what's under the hood? Kohler Magnum or Command ( hopefully it's not a Kohler Courage) or Onan and how much HP. Any idea what hydro is used? Mike....

3 pointsI have a 1988 416-8 with turf tires on it size 23 x9.5x 12 would I have any problems with chains rubbing if I install 23x10.5 12 turf tires? Secondly I suck when it comes to adjusting carbs. I replaced the spark plug and the old plug is black indicating a too rich mixture.Which way would turn the needle jet, In or out ? Please don't laugh too hard . Dumb down your instructions on the carb . I have seen carbs grow legs and run when I approach with tools in hand.

3 pointsThis is my dad's tractor. Why he got it I have no idea as he is too old to operate it but I guess he figured I would and use it to pull logs out of the woods and make firewood. It runs good and the only issue is one of the boom rams like to leak occasionally. I am looking for manuals for it but first need a model # and It appears there is no id tag on it. There are four holes in the dash that look like there might have been there but removed for painting or ?? The on tag that is there is for the loader. I'm guessing that it is 1960 - 64 vintage. It was bought new by my dad's brothers for their construction business back in that time frame. If any body can help out on this or suggest another site that maybe could much appreciated. It has a hydro transmission with a high/low and 1st/2nd gear selector and foot pedal forward/reverse shuttle. loader tag
-
3 pointsYou guys really are pretty amazing ! Not only did you correctly confirm to me that indeed the transmission pulley on my little 701was not original, you posted a pic of what it should look like, and gave me the part number, and found someone who had a NOS one for sale, and gave me that person's contact information. How blessed I am to have crossed paths with you !!! When I got home from work today there was a package in the mailbox. Guess what was inside ? I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you! It would have taken me ten years to have found this on my own ! You guys got one in my hand in ten days !

3 pointsIf you are smart put your heart in another area, the heat and humidity suck down here. I want to move North , I getting too old and cranky to deal with the heat and humidity. It has been raining all day and the temperature in mild 70's tried to work on my 416-8 and sweat was dripping in my eyes.
-
3 pointsMake your own. Switch is still available new and the lights can be found on Ebay. I made my own replica bracket and have the entire set up working for under $150. There are threads on this site with the template and dimensions that I followed.

3 pointsHoward remember to drop Roadapples off at his house on your return trip. I have heard Jay talk and he don't talk southern , he just may not fit in with us Virginia Boys. Since you love driving so much throw that Reo in your truck and drive on down here to the capital . My wife won't shoot you but I am sure you would get "The Stare " and you may have to haul my dead body back up 95.

3 pointsThanks everyone, I'm feeling alittle better today. I have a nice small trailer but was bring to many to fit on it. Gonna get a bigger one.
-
3 pointsFor sure a plow ramming snowbanks and dirt piles will bust the frame/tranny mount. Mike
-
3 pointsThe whole package looks to be in great shape! Looks like a great score to me! As far as the engine, if you wanted to put a Kohler on it instead of the original Tecumseh, I'd consider that a nice upgrade.
-
3 pointsI've had two tractors with cracked frames. One was a purchase from the original owner who only used his 312-h to mow with a 42" sd and mount the generator on the front. The tractor was flawless, except for practically being in two pieces. He he was a heavy guy. Maybe 250 lbs. the frame joint was just a marginal to poor design. Some of them broke, others didn't. Might have been a function of assembly or weld variations. Ironically, the vertical shaft tractors mentioned above all had full length frames. And the frame on Dennis' 264 is heavier steel than you'd expect. Steel is cheap. That's why we saw lots of it on tractors of all brands. Steve Ps - I guess I should mention the other cracked tractor I had was a 520h/60" deck. Don't know if it plowed snow or not, but it did have to haul around that heavy deck and engine.

3 pointsIf I tried to make some thing that small ( the tool chest) all I would end up with would be the pencil shavings. I can not believe anyone has that much patience . Everything is beautiful.
-
3 pointsThose Kohler singles are top dog for the combination of power/simplicity/reliability. They can run pretty well right up to the point they will put a hole in the block. Then put the highest horsepower flathead model on the wheel horse with the least "extras" and a nice healthy dose of handsome and that's why most people will vote the C-160 as the best overall wheel horse. I am partial to the C-165 but that has the generally hated rubber isolation mounts (with the already love-it-or-hate-it blackhood style).
-
3 pointsHoward , remember to take your pass port. You and Road apples that will be some trip. See if Bud is making any new creation. I miss pictures of his projects. Have a save trip.

3 pointsThe original 933168 roll pin for the shifter donut is 5/32" x 13/16". Replaced by 32121-114 spirol pin which is stronger than a roll pin. The pin is short because it shares the hole with the dog-point setscrew. Drive it in from the rear of the shifter until it is just slightly below the surface of the donut. Garry

3 pointsBeen working on putting mine back to what i thought was original condition. Well after removing the steering column and the rest i decided to research the parts. It turns out the column, gear box, pitman arm and link are all model A parts and possibly the spindles. After several conversations with other lever steer guys this might of well been a transition tractor between the lever and senior. but without any records it anybody's guess. So i will keep the parts with the tractor but leave it a lever. eventually the rest will get painted

2 pointsMorning -folks. It is with a heavy heart that I post here about the passing of one of my best friends, and a member here (even though he didn't post much) Randolph Smith of Chester, Va., passed away yesterday. I got the call last night from his SIL. He was a Wheelhorse dealer for years in Appomatox, Va.. He had retired years back from a Ford dealership--but he still kept the Wheelhors'e alive..he surely did. He had a '69 GT14, that is the cleanest/nicvest tractor of that era I have ever seen. He had it @ the Show several years ago. Unfortanately--neither one of us was able to attend this year. I know he is in a better place now--and not in pain. glenn **Admins or Mods--Move this to where it is more appropriate, if so--and Thanks for letting me 'honor' my friend in thoughts for a few minutes.

2 points9-19-1988 Louganis wins gold in springboard On September 19, 1988, just one day after sustaining a head injury in a frightening accident, American diver Greg Louganis wins gold in the springboard competition at the Summer Olympics, in Seoul, South Korea. It was his second consecutive Olympic gold in the event. Four years earlier, at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, Louganis had been unstoppable, winning gold decisively in both the springboard and platform competitions. By the time the 1988 Olympics rolled around, however, many in the diving world believed Louganis was past his prime. As if to prove his doubters wrong, Louganis got off to a strong start in Seoul, and led in the preliminaries of the springboard competition going into the ninth round on September 18. For his ninth dive, Louganis attempted a reverse 2 1/2 somersault pike but failed to clear the board, and hit the back of his head on it as he fell into the water, his dive incomplete. To the delight and relief of his many fans, Louganis returned to make his final two dives after a quick trip to the trainer for five stitches to close the gash in his head, and secured his place in the final. Later, he said of the accident, “I didn’t realize I was that close to the board. When I hit it, it was kind of a shock. But I think my pride was hurt more than anything else.” The next morning, Louganis fought through his nerves to nail all 11 of his dives, proving that he was still the best diver in the world. Louganis also won repeat gold in the men’s platform competition, becoming the first man ever to win consecutive golds in both events. On October 2, Louganis was awarded the United States Olympic Committee Spirit Award and later announced his retirement from competition to pursue an acting career
