17 pointsI wanted some bigger rubber on the back of my 161 and came across some rough, cheap 520 wheels that I reworked. I put some 10.5" wide Carlyles on them. For weight my tire guy added non-corrosive fluid to add about 50lbs to each side. Before it was light in the rear pushing that twin around. Now it's planted. I still have the original Carlyles if I ever want to put them back on. Here are some before, during and after pics.

11 pointsLeveling some topsoil today and brought the RJ out instead of 857. Enjoyed the beautiful weather and seat time on a classic. amazing what a 4hp Kohler can do!

10 pointsMy Pond Wheelhorse , have owned this tractor since 1974 truck/hobby farmed 3 acres and used it for snow removal for 25 years. Restored it in 2014 and now it pulls trailers in storage at my place.

7 pointsNew to the site but have used it for many issues. I have my dad's 1968 raider 9 that I grew up with. It is all original including the paint. I'm in the process of rebuilding the 1967 RL426 mowing deck that came with it. Just got done putting new bearings and seals in the towers. I need to weld some patches in and I'm looking into using a ceramic abrasion resistant product made by belzona on the underside of the deck. I'll keep you all posted as I make my way through.

6 pointsHi all wheel horse friends and gurus! My father passed away almost 3 years ago and I kept his wheel horse. I want to restore it, with my son at my side, in honor of his memory. Looking forward to the project. Thanks in advance for all the welcomes. Basshawg

6 pointsThis showed up at my house tonight thanks to @ACcuz ! He called and said do you want me to pick up a 312-A for $200 . I told him " I don't know ,can you " then I said " things need to be moved around to get it in the barn . It's rough needs key switch , headlights , chains and a snowblower ! Hey this time it wasn't me but I not going to turn down another horse for the stable either . pretty sure it's not original engine . On the pto side is the pan tapped ? Need to check that . I guess you buy em cheap and stack them deep !

5 pointsWell I picked this Suburban up early this summer and finally have some time and nicer weather to get started. I have the front half stripped down to the frame rails and wil be getting ready to do some sandblasting soon. I have high hopes for this one but not looking to build a show tractor. I want to use this one as a pull tractor around the yard and maybe whatever else I can think of. I respect the work and attention to detail of you purists out there( and it's phenomenal !) but I would enjoy it more by using it .Anyways I will post more pics of progress and thanks for a great forum to help me. Be back soon.

5 pointsGot my wife out on our (my) c141(mistress) today. I don't get to see her in action very often as I'm the one ridding her. She looks just as good coming as she does going. She aint no zero turn, but I wouldn't trade her in! (You can decide if I'm talking about my wife or c141, I won't tell her the answers)

5 pointsLove those black hoods, and them tires are , well bad. You keep your herd looking great.

4 pointspicked up this early RJ today serial #1516 today from @fireman this is a real nice tractor, with RJ-35 front rims. Got the oil bath and schnacke with it too. I plan to restore this tractor! Thanks fireman I'm very happy with the purchase! What do you all think?

4 pointsGeorge jones was the best! And I may drive it next Sunday to bar and watch football...
-
4 pointsThat's going to be pretty subjective since it will depend on the tires you have. Inflation and wear as well as type or brand. These are the measurements from the brochure.

4 pointsJunk yard finds... ok ....I know I know ...not as glamourous find as @Ed Kennell's C160 or Jeff's recent haul but what the heck parts is parts. Which is what I plan to use these guys for. I have no idea what might be wrong with these that ended them up in the bone yard but 50 bucks brought both them home. My wife's mower is a 16-38 and my mower is a 246H so lots of good parts and possibly good hydros not to mention the myriad of idlers, springs and what not that are handy to have around the shop. Decks & rubber are in good shape so lots of reusable parts ther and the one has a brand new set of blades on it so I figured there is the fifty right there! Maybe transaxles & parts for building a two-seater?? The guy that picks up my scrap furnaces & air conditioners at my shop in town had these at his lot outside of town so I have been eyeballing them for awhile. After losing out on a CL score of a nice 1257 this weekend I needed to get my spirits back up again by bringing something home! Any way this guy's boneyard has lots of vintage tractors hidden in weeds, The further back you go in the lot the older they get so who knows maybe horses hidden in there. Will get back out there when the nettles die off to investigate.

4 pointsThe one in the movie was also a 1966 110. I have owned a few RF JDs, and 3 of them were 1966s. They have that look about them that when you see one, you want one. Deere put a lot of thought into making this tractor and they done their research. Here is an interesting video. http://www.deere.com/en_US/media/player/player.html?src=/jdonline/john_deere_lawnmower_50th .m4v&autostart=true

3 pointsbut have been a long time lurker on this forum. Many thanks to the admins and members for the incredible wealth of information found here. It has kept my 310-8 running for 30 years! My barn is full and it may be coming time to sell the old girl. I will be sure to offer it here first!

3 pointsWell guys I've been crazy busy with moving and once I got here the house had been let go so yard was waist high. Had a guy mow it twice with zero turn and I have mowed twice, it's still has tons of grass we have to rake up and that's where the 753 comes to help haul it away! O and it took me and my kids down to dollar general and tractor supply down the road lol. IMG_2688.MOV

3 pointsWell I spotted this on for a good price , but had a very vague description . Had the wife message him to ask a couple questions . Said it was a running driving tractor and cart came with it . So the wife hit the button , it was mine . When I talked to the owner on the phone he said he just no longer needed it . He worked as a mechanic , and always maintained the tractor and purrs like a kitten . It needs a choke cable , seat (the original is flatten out under the new cushion) maybe rear tires . He was kinda upset because someone stole the hood ornament . Said it was a prancing horse and was his favorite part of tractor . The cart is pretty rough but it looks to be a early one ? All in all I think I did pretty good for what I paid . Son got off the truck and tested out the mower , ran and mowed great until it ran out of fuel ( hope that's it) . So here's my new to me 856 .

3 pointsHi guys...what's up?? RacinBob hit the nail on the head. The 5091, 103907, 103916 and the 103918 are all basically the same...8 pinion differentials with 1 1/8" axles. The 5073 is the only 10 pinion limited slip transmission that has the brake drum on the cluster gear shaft. The brake drum placement is the same in the transmissions I mentioned right above that. Pullers like the 8 pinion differential better and it is stronger for that reason. The 10 pinion LS (if the spring in the differential is doing it's thing) may be better for doing what a "garden tractor" was built for. If you have ever had one tire slipping on ice and the horse will not move...you know what I mean. Slammer mentioned the "mechanism being broke" and that was the reason for the 10 pinion LS to not work. Actually, that is not a correct statement. The spring that holds the pinions in place is what makes the LS work. If that spring is broke, you would know it, as you would not be able to drive the horse. What happens...that spring becomes weak and then the differential acts like a regular 8 pinion differential. A test for that differential to work...put the front of your horse up against a tree and put it in 1st gear and let out the clutch...both wheels should be turning and digging into the ground. Ed, sometimes the guys pulling will "lock" the 8 pinion differential so both wheels do the pulling. It makes it hard to steer though. The differential has the pinions "1 up and the next 1 down". To lock the differential, you put 2 pinions up and the next 2 down.

3 pointsThe wires from the "A" terminal, are for accessories and have nothing to do with the actual starting or running of the engine. Trace the wire connected to the "R" terminal. It should go directly to the output (B+) terminal of your regulator/rectifier. The green wire connected to "B" terminal should go to one side of the ammeter, through the ammeter directly to the large lug on the solenoid that is also connected to the (+) terminal of your battery; The wire connected to the "S" terminal should go directly to one side of the PTO switch, out of the PTO switch, to the safety switch that is activated by your clutch pedal, and from there to the small lug on the solenoid; There should be a wire connected to the "I" terminal. It should go to the PTO switch, to the seat switch, and then to the (+) side of the ignition coil. Here is where a volt meter or a test light is needed. When the key is turned off, you should only have power at the "B" terminal. If you don't, you may have a bad connect at the ammeter, or a bad ammeter. You can take both wires off of the back of the ammeter and hook them together, Be careful not to touch the exposed wires to ground. Check again for power at the "B" terminal. If you have power at "B", turn the key from the "off" position to the "run" position. You should now have power at "B", "R". "I", and "A". When you turn the key to "Start", you should have power at "B", "R", "I", and "S". Check this out, let me know the results, and we will continue from there.

3 pointsI notice that as well. Here is your switch back, labeled . The "I" terminal (where the ignition circuit begins) has nothing attached to it.

3 pointsVery nice, I fully restored this one a while back. The reason I owned a Deere is I watched the movie the Straight Story and then I had to have one. Fun little tractor for sure and a great movie...
-
3 pointsVery nice, I think you got it backwards though... You left the classic in the garage and you worked the Antique...

2 pointsHaha real funny Jason ...I tried that and all I got was what looked like a goofy three wheeled backwards forklift with a cab at a government auction....go figure... His pic looks like a boat with wheels so here I'm thinkin some kind of amphibian morphodite tractor of sorts.... You can't tell me at first glance that don't look like a boat!! Motor up front with the prop shaft between yer legs out the rear....
-
2 pointsThat is awesome! What can be cooler than driving your tractor to Tractor Supply?
-
2 pointsNice! It certainly has ALL the goodies with it Normally I'm on the side of leaving it original but there is some over spray on it already. With that low of a serial # it should have the round 3 hole rear hubs too but the Ponds are notorious for mixing it up a bit. That looks like the leather shift boot I made as a gift for Jeff when he hosted the first ever RedSquare meet & greet back in ??? 09???. BUT... it's a real boot, made from a leather work boot!
-
2 pointsI would definitely try it out on your silver or aluminum painted parts as these colors along with gold sometimes react with clears and run . Just a heads up from personal experience . That was using Rustoleum enamel paint . I might have have missed it , but did you get hood stand straighten out ? Awsome job by the way ! Can't wait for assembly .
-
2 pointsI think I would pull the tins off the motor and distress them a bit in the blast cabinet so they match the patina of the .

2 pointsIt lives. It runs on his own. But, the starter/generator isn't mounted yet, and the throttle cable is frozen, and the choke cable is missing. It needs to be rewire, provided the S/G works. But, it runs and it sounded pretty good.
-
2 pointsYes I know , this is the last tractor for awhile . I have a 40' x 60' barn with just a path for me to go from one door to the other , rather embarrassing . A shop half built on one end and crap everywhere . Kids can't ever put anything back where it goes . For those of you who know it's not like I can do myself . Hopefully soon it will be getting cleaned up , before the cold weather sets in .

2 pointsJim, Jeff is a nice guy and I knew he would appreciate this tractor. Plus, it's not too far away from us, a couple of hours south of here. And Jeff is a Wheel Horse guy through and through, that and a Ford guy, but none of us are perfect. Just kidding on that, I like all trucks myself, as long as they're mine and they run.
