10 pointsWith all the record heat this year, I thought it might be nice to see some snow pictures for past years. Add some if you have them.

8 pointsFor years I have been struggling with the brake on my Wheel Horse 1067. Forward motion down hill takes left leg full force to stop and reverse motion down hill is impossible to stop. So I did a little research and ended up buying a new brake lining from RMaynard (Bob) here on Red Square. Instructions with it are simple and they work. Put the brake shoe and new lining on this morning (used Goop to attach the lining to the shoe). What a difference! Stops on a dime, on a hill, forward and reverse. Thanks, Bob !!

8 pointsHave idea of building a wheel chair with a A81/111 mower . Thought I had one lined up for purchase this weekend , but my hopes are dashed . I want to use the tub manly and use wheel chair parts for the rest . My thoughts were to have my drive wheels centered under the machine , tucked up underneath kinda hidden . The four outside wheels on casters . So just like my chair it would be a true zero turn . My seat would be able to swivel for easy transfers and have my joystick control mounted on it . Don't know if I should keep steering wheel just for looks . I think this would be a good project not just for me but for anyone who'd like to tool around on a mower , rather than a chair or hoveround . So for now plan is on back burner until I can acquire a mower (cheap) . So in meantime if this will inspire someone else to build something like this , go for it . I'd love to see it happen .

5 pointsOH.....I THOUGHT THAT WAS YOUR HOUSE.........I was about to go through my messages and find your phone # so I could call you and ask about borrowing some money and loaning me the use of a couple rooms for a while till I get back on my feet............
-
5 pointsThanks Jeff...that was taken at Lord's Park...a couple of blocks from my house. It was the first snow this last winter...it was also first ice. You can see the geese standing on the ice...it was fun watching them get used to the ice. Here is the other one from there. I've been wanting to take a horse down there for a photo shoot. You should see this place in the fall.

5 pointsI got it The short of this story is, I tried to solder the joint and because it was so close to the metal edge of the plate, all it would do is short out, So I found a small finishing nail clipped the head off, and drove it into the center of the flush wire about 1/4 in. then I hooked up the wires to a battery and presto it worked, then I mixed a non metallic liquid metal around the joint, and then soldered the wire ends to the nail, and then covered all with liquid tape and it is working.

4 pointsYes, cool wishes on a hot day are all right with me....Try working in a power plant in this heat... By the way Jason, That clip you have with the orange dump truck and bridge doing the "never ending snow plowing" looks like something Steve would do in his spare time.

4 pointsLet's be honest here. WH's, even 520s, are stout garden tractors, not SCUTs. Even my Deutz-Allis 1920, which is much larger than a 520 and has available a 3 pt hitch, is a large garden tractor. The question is, is there really a new garden tractor that can pull a single bottom plow, run a tiller, and dozer more than snow? Ingersoll, JD X500 and up, and that is it. Actually, Husky sells a front mount articulating mower in Europe that is a beast . . .dozer, blower, etc. Not even the new Kubota mowers are lawn tractors. Kubota BX are SCUTS, as are Massey low HP tractors. Simplicity Legacy and JD X700 series are sold as garden tractors or SCUTs, depending on the audience. But, the earlier comment is right. Buyers wanting ground engaging capabilities are directed toward SCUTS with 3 pt hitches and diesels. There are MANY manufacturers of high end zero turn mowers. Every region has there own favorite. This is the high end market, not true garden tractors. If I were thinking of adding a new product, I'd go electric (eg Mean Green) and/or robotic. Check out these: http://www.greenindustrypros.com/directory/commercial-riding-mowers-zero-turn-mowers

3 pointsSo I'm looking for a winter rebuild/restore/project to be a mower next summer. I know there are better mowers out there but for the amount of mowing I do it doesn't matter. It takes 20 minutes now with a 36" deck taking my time. I really like the tractors with round fenders...remind me of "real" tractors for some reason. What models came with fenders like the photo (random one from the Internet). I'd be more interested in a square hood with round fenders if it even exists. What models came with in that combination? So I can start looking.

3 pointsHere are a few first day pics. Bruce's & My display, a lowered Farmall that was really cool. Show tractor rows and a really cool model train layout. MAN DOWN!!!!!
-
3 pointsI looked!! I don't know why. This deserves the family, summer picnic table in the winter...notice the bird bath behind it. The snow was too deep for my son's K-9...he does this all summer also. Terry...I have to say that I remember that snow thing Jason posted...I have always liked that.

3 pointsGood thing you clarified that @DougC. I was going to say that the ATF usually clings more to the glass, has a hint of blackberry along with a slight taste of mushroom and finishes nicely. The aroma is that of elderberry. The 10w30 goes better with fish and is usually on the dry side of the pallet with hints of oak and peat.

3 pointsHow about a good used Wheel Horse? Cheaper to purchase, easy to work on, access to this great forum for advice, parts, etc. .......... Just thinking out loud.
-
3 pointsYou don't want to switch oils if possible. Hopefully, the oil is in there...if it is tan colored use 10w30...if it is red use the automatic trans fluid. If it is not reading on the dip stick, there should be a plug near the axle housing on the back...open that up and stick a straw down there.

3 pointsGot the grill installed, single wire 60amp alternator working and had FleetPride rebuild the last lift cylinder so it doesn't leak anymore. Still lots of things to tidy up under the dash for wiring and gauges. Seems to be working great though.

3 pointsWell went out to start my b80 yesterday and 1 click is all I got. So I figured it had a dead battery. I charged the battery and tried again and 1 click. Battery has good charge but it did go to 11.79 volts overnight so I went and got a new battery. Tried with new battery and 1 click. Now I have to check wires, starter, switch and solenoid. So I checked what I thought it would be solenoid and bingo that's what it was. I looked for a 3 pole solenoid and no one has one not even napa. Every one has to order it. So I went to tractor supply and got a 4 pole . After checking some post on Redsqure I hooked it up using only the S post ,battery and starter post and she started up great. THANKS AGAIN REDSQUARE GUYS. This is the very reason why last year I bought my first ever wheel horse and not another craftsman. I did a lot of research for a tractor and found this site. I could read everything about wheelhorse that I didn't know anything about. Smartest move I've ever made. And the saddest thing is I love working on them. Can't wait for another break down....... .

3 pointsHammering them back is just a temporary fix. I got tired of them coming apart and fix mine. That as 27 years ago haven't had any come apart.

3 pointsI likey!!! ... I just fell out chair , that thing is going to be and your wondering what engine you should use !
-
3 pointsThanks to you, Denny. That 701 is so solid. I let the clutch out in 3rd a little quicker than I should have at about 3/4 throttle and raised the front off the ground like it was nothing. No harm done but it surprised me. Thanks again.

2 pointsScrew at the top is your idle mixture. Have engine at operating temperature. Make sure your idle speed is close to spec. Turn the idle mixture screw in until the engine rpm changes. Then turn the screw back out I till the engine starts to run poorly( rpm change again) Set the screw to the middle of these two settings. Basically you want the smoothest running at idle. The high speed mixture screw is the lower one. Make sure your high idle rpm is close( probably 3600) Basically the the same procedure. Adjust the screw for the smoothest running and highest rpm

2 pointsGreat pictures of the process. Thanks for sharing. I have one of Bob's linings to put on yet.

2 pointsPut my Harbor Freight Generator Head onto my GT 14 using the front Tach-o-matic I installed a few years back (so I can attach the single stage Snow blower from my C81) onto the GT14. Used Heavy Duty 2" inch square trailer hitch tubing which Fits over each other and slides so that I can adjust the b belt (welded nut and bolt) on the bottom of the unit. Use a 3" pulley on the gen set and the outer pulley on the Tractor. Works like a charm easy to take on and off, ran the Tractor at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and it had no problem powering the drop light and heater I plugged-in to check the operation. Ran it for over an hour with no issues, then it started pouring so I quit. Belt is 5/8" X 71" long

2 pointsThe X300 series are lawn tractors, and if you move up to the X320 you get a K58 transmission and 22 inch rear tires. If you want a garden tractor you have to move into the X500 series. Times have changed. Most homeowners want something that will mow their grass and maybe even move snow, if you in the snow regions. Some homeowners hire a landscaping crew to do the yard work. Back in the '50 and '60s when most of the manufacturers were introducing new tractors, homeowners wanted one machine to do everything they needed. And, for the most part, they did their own yard work. So manufacturers had to meet that demand. Today, it's a different market. Disposable equipment, hiring out the work, smaller yards, smaller gardens, etc. So manufacturers are not offering as many garden tractors, but offering cheaper mowers, zero turns (which is the current fad), and SCUTs for those who do want to work their machines.

2 pointsGot the fenders welded and ground up today. Think I have the cage mount figured out. Now have to get an engine before I can fix the hood height.

2 pointsOk Red Square , the RJ rebuild is now is operation again. I have been awaiting my RJ hood with new gas straps welded on . My welder had a job do do away from our county and could not get to my hood until recently. I have a new gas tank for the Rj(that has the neck further back on the tank) so my new gas tank straps had to be adjusted to fit the tank. The hood had lots of issues with old holes be welded up with brass brazing, bondo, glazing compound and lots of sanding. I have finished painting and sanding two coats of Regal Red. Not letting dry a couple days before I install the gas tank and place the hood on the frame. Today I installed the rear hitch and hitch pin on the RJ (thanks to Jake Kuhn for the hitch), the lift cable (a new one from Lowell S./wheelhorse1000), the chrome Harley Davidson Softail heat shield I plan on using ( I added some aluminum diamond plate in a few places as the fender pan/tool box had some serious holes in it). I also started working on the steering block set up and painted the steering wheel column. Stevasaurus and Racinbob have been tremendous to work with on getting me this far! I still have a transmission project to complete after this redo! Here are a few pictures for an update. I did get a little more work done on the gas tank hole on the hood before painting it! New Old Stock gas tank ready to paint! The Harley Davidson Softail Heat Shield fits nicely on the exhaust pipe of the RJ and has two holes from broom clamps in the right spots. The steering block with a new steering pin. New E rings are installed on the pin holding the rear slot hitch in place.

2 pointsTie rod ball end is worn out, probably need a new one, go to the vendors section. wheelhorseman1000 makes replacements.

2 pointsLane, if it's truely a low hour turn key engine get it anyway. Something like that is always good to have around just in case......

2 pointsThat sounds great WHX7! I'll keep an eye out! The ground at Bob's day was dry and hard, the ground at Rogers day was soft and muddy--lots of rain. Sandy Loam would be a nice change! End of October was crazy busy for me and I still had to add one more thing to it---that trip to Iowa! So, we loaded two tractors and three people into the excursion and headed south! The ground conditions weren't great in Iowa but the fields were straight and long which made for fun plowing. My son hopped on the 100 and plowed for almost 2 hours before he got off to take a break. My daughter (tender age of 8) came to me and said that she wanted to plow. She had never tried it before but wanted to give it a shot. Since Caleb was on the 100, GhostRider it was. With the clutch and manual lift, it isn't exactly kid friendly but she took to it right away. I'd drop the plow in for her and release the clutch, then she'd do the rest! You can tell by Claudia's clothing, it was cold (about 40 degrees). She loved it though and ended up plowing for about an hour before she went off to play with her little friends. She opted to ride side saddle so I could get at Least a cheek on the other half of the seat to push the clutch and run the lift handle! My friend Dave snapped this pic of us from across the field! It was a really fun day and GhostRider worked great! It was our last plow day for the year. GhostRider was shaping up to be a really good plow tractor. It was now time to give him a look worthy of his name...

2 pointsGot the seat bucket fit up and almost ready to fire up the mig. T I want to lower the hood more, but I need to select a power plant first so I have enough room. I'm torn between a free Briggs 7 and a $560 HF 22 twin. That old weight trainer I bought for $5 to get the 10 - 25 lb weights will make a pretty nice roll cage and seat pads.
