While cruising the internet today, I came across an auction for a Wheel Horse wagon. The description says it came from a former Wheel Horse/White dealer in Western PA. I'm wondering if this was a Wheel Horse promotion or just something that dealer did locally. Interesting item though.

You need that Bob!! Take a look at this: Page 16 Oh crap! Maybe not. I just saw the price.

Hi All.... Quick little update here... Since the tires are mounted now I figured it was time to paint them. I found that painting the rims before mounting them resulted in them getting scratched up with the tire spoons. So I make use of this tip I learned from the 3 wheeler world. I removed the valve stem to let most of the air out. This allows one to sneak playing cards between the tire and the rim. Then... Just carefully paint. I used ivory gloss for the rims as suggested in paint list thread. Here are some photos. Oh... I did wrap the valve stem with electrical tape.

Well since it seems next to impossible to locate a decent grader/belly blade for less than an arm and leg, I decided to fashion my own blade with a 42" dozer blade I picked up for free earlier this year. I cut the blade in half lengthwise and added a six-inch section to each end to get a total width of 54". Here is my progress.

Buy a $69.00 wagon and put some decals on it! We had an Ac dealer in the town I grew up in the 60's.The showroom window was stocked full of AC farm toys.

As I have time and money I try to convert to the lever style throttles. Fixes on the others always seem to give way after a short time. In the interim this redneck fix works and is cheap...one clip = fast idle 2 clips = mowing speed.

^that wont go away Anyway i was thinking along these lines

The chickens worked on the copperheads, but maybe turkeys would be better for their larger rattling cousins.
  12. 3 points
Okay, Tunahead Ed, all you need down there in Virginia is some chickens.

I was looking for that exact thing while at the show. I was going to sneak a set of 6-12 AGs onto a RJ-58 that was parked near me and hope Jim didn't notice his diamond treads were gone
  14. 3 points
Yup, I'm not paying $500.00 for a $69.00 wagon. Great find on that brochure Bob.

If I recall, you may not be required to pull flywheel. The trigger mounts on the upper left corner under the engine shroud. Depending on how the two wires are attached to the trigger will mandate whether you absolutely must pull flywheel. To ascertain the condition of the wire from the armature/windings to the trigger, you would absolutely need to pull flywheel.

It's great to see a daughter get involved in a physical, real world mechanical project with her father. Too many girls grow up never doing anything physical working with their hands to solve problems that arise around the household environment and not even grasping or having the mental training and experiences about how things get done and how things get fixed. If they grow up with no background in hands on repair experience, they are left with no mental tools or knowledge of the real world around them, and will always be dependent upon others to solve some of the problems that will occur to them throughout their lives. That can be as simplistic as not knowing how to change a light bulb or knowing where the breaker box is located to turn a circuit back on that has overloaded and tripped a breaker. There is also a very special bonding that occurs between a father and a daughter when doing these types of projects, which money can't buy. Kudos to this father and daughter!

7-20-1963 Jan and Dean’s “Surf City” hits #1 “Two girls for every boy!” was the opening line of Jan and Dean’s “Surf City”, the song that reached the top of the US pop charts on this day in 1963. The claim was not supported by the facts, but it helped create a popular image of California as a surfer’s paradise of sun and sand with endless summers. To anyone with only a passing familiarity with 1960s pop music, “Surf City” might easily be mistaken for a Beach Boys record, though in fact, the Beach Boys had yet to have a #1 of their own. Still, “Surf City” owes its existence to the Beach Boys and their resident genius Brian Wilson. High school classmates Jan Berry and Dean Torrance earned a pair of minor hits while still in their teens, including one; “Baby Talk” (#10,’59), which the Beach Boy’s Mike Love later credited as an inspiration for their 1961 debut hit single, “Surfin”. By 1962, the direction of influence between the two groups had shifted. Jan and Dean’s doo-*** flavored was going out of fashion and when the duo met the Beach Boys while appearing on the same bill, Berry and Torrance heard the sound that would reinvigorate their career. They became good friends with Brian Wilson and asked Wilson if they could record one of his songs. He declined their first choice, “Surfin Safari”, but did give them “Surf City”. In a year that also saw the debut of the Frankie Avalon-Annette Funicello “Beach Party” franchise, “Surf City” became the first chart toping surf song ever. Other big hits for Jan and Dean were “Honolulu Lulu”, “Drag City”, “Dead Man’s Curve” and “The Little Old Lady From Pasadena”

Well, I'm sitting here for therapy with Dad. I've done a little to my roller I picked up from Limited12. Below are some pics. I've added 10.5" rear tires, a predator motor with custom rear exit exhaust, and wheelie bars. I've used a peroxide, salt, vinegar solution to promote a rusty patina. With the straight piles this thing almost sounds like a motorcycle! Got a few more things in the works that I'll post later!

I have a 314 h and 522xi loader at the vacation home. They make our property maintenance much easier. What used to be an issue is no more. Stale gas in the carb and dead batteries. After having to clean out a few carbs I chose to take the easy road. These tractors don't see more than 20 hours a year. The gas would often go bad in the carb and leave me with more to do. The easy way around this is to shut off the fuel and let the carb run dry. Starting it up the next time could be an issue. I started by replacing all of the fuel line. Used a simple 1/4 turn inline valve, an inline marine fuel pump, and a fuel filter. Now i I turn the fuel off and let em run dry. When it's time to start a fuel pumps of the hand pump and they fire right up. No more waiting for the mechanical fuel pumps to pull fuel. Also stated using solar chargers on the batteries. Haven't had a dead battery in 5 years.

If we ever move down there, animals will definitely be part of the plan. Dogs and cats are on the list, and horses for my wife, probably goats or sheep for the autumn olive, and now chickens. We already have wild turkeys, we'll have to find a way to encourage more. We also have black bears, coyotes and bobcats, among other scary things. And foxes, but they're just cool. And deer and rabbits, lots of deer and rabbits. And a few groundhogs. -------- Just watched your video, Bob. Go roadrunner! But I suspect they're not native to Virginia.

I think if a turkey decided to pick a fight with a rattler, the turkey would end up on the losing end. What he might need is a roadrunner.

As far as pulling the fly wheel off. Plan on at least a couple days. Start by spraying E-Force, Kroil or PB Blaster and let it work a couple days. The front of the flywheel has a couple holes to thread bolts to use a flywheel puller with. If you have taps' I would clean the threads first. Be careful that you do not damage the internal thread on the shaft that the flywheel rides on as that fine thread is how you will re-attach the PTO and you don't want to damage threads. Ask me how I know this:-) I now have a fine thread tap that I did not have previously. For puller, I have only had to use lots of heat on the last one. Usually impact wrench after a few days of soak and it breaks free. I used the HF puller for the flywheel. PS, Not the claw type as that will break the flywheel. I used the puller that allows you to pull on the bolts inserted into front of flywheel. I

I really can't believe how time flies! Apparently I'm better at finishing projects than finishing writing about them! Dad's tractor has been finished for about a year now but I haven't finished the story. I just found some more slides of the Horse from the 1980's and I was reminded about this thread leaving everyone hanging. I'll try to get back at it tonight and begin to tell the rest of the story...

If it creeps in even after turning the knob clock wise to tighten it, then replacement is the only good cure. I got an aftermarket one from pesp.biz and it has been working great for me. ROT9135 is the part number about $9

I ended up getting this one shrunk down just enough. I threw it on top of the hot intake of my truck, on the plastic cover of course. It got it down just enough to get it back together.

I would not recommend using any sealant on a head gasket. They should only be installed dry.

Welcome to Red Square The threads with videos and plenty of pictures are in the "Reference Section" "Transmissions" on the Main Page down a bit. Racinbob, Lane Ranger, and I did one titled "So You Want to Save that 3-Piece Tranny" with tons of information. Your Transmission is a #5010, but is about the same as a #5003. There are some threads on these transmissions also. Side plates are available from members here on the site, but the tube is standard stock and can be replaced in the plates you have, by grinding the welds and re-welding. I know a couple of guys that have done that. Depends on how bad yours are. Usually, just putting in new bushings works great, and smoothing the rough edges on the axle tube.

Awesome. Pull the fender off and look for loose stuff on the linkage for the motion control. I did a write up on deleting the smart steer, that explains the fender removal a little. It's also in the service manual, that you can download. That will also allow you to clean easier. Pulling the engine is very easy, if you have something to lift it with. I did a write up. You can probably get 80-90% of the gunk out of the engine by using an air compressor and air gun, unless it's really caked on. Shoot air in between all the openings in the surrounds. I did, and got tons of mouse nest material long before i decided to pull the motor, and when i did pull the motor, there was barely anything left that needed cleaning. Photo everything as you take it apart. It's easy to work on, and the photos might help you remember where everything goes. The hood does get hot. See if the gauge is working. If it is, mowing usually gets mine just over half way on a hot day. Without mowing, my gauge barely moves into the green. If it doesn't work, the sensor is easy to get to and swap, or at least it looks easy. Change all the fluids too, once you find and fix the bad leaks.

Hey guys! Going to start this project back up. I finally found a garage I can use til winter hits. But by then I'm hoping to have everything done that needs to be done. Sorry I haven't been around. But anyways! On to some pics I snapped today. Started messing with the deck. If anyone knows where I can get a new center pulley and idler pulley, please point me in the right direction! And bearings....I'm just going to rebuild the spindles but I'm not quite sure where to get bearings either. I may or may not also repaint the deck. Haven't made up my mind quite yet. And the first picture is my niece and nephew enjoying the Charger. They love driving it around lol.

Ed,I can appreciate your concern. Problems usually follow when any wild animal takes up residence near a populated area. I have an Aunt and a Sister that were nearly forced to relocate from their homes due to their fear of the reptiles that had infested their properties. These were copperheads in the mountains North of Cumberland, MD. My Sister actually carried a pistol chambered for .410 shotgun shells while making her daily 300 yd walk to her mailbox to wait for her kids so she could escort them back to the house. Believe it or not, but the solution to the problem were free range chickens. I'll never know if it was the activity of the chickens or if the snakes just have a natural fear of large birds, but the snakes left when the chickens arrived. I'm glad you discovered what was making the BUZZ before you stepped on him. Just goes to show how patient he was....giving you three warnings with no action. I'm afraid they are not all that sociable, especially the copperheads.

This is a frustrating issue. I have had some luck with leaving the gasket sit and dry out for a few days, but even this method is not 100%. Inpatients usually leads me to a new gasket.

The sunstrand manual you can download here is the place to start. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/24-transmission-hydro-sundstrand-sm-492-4206pdf/ The linkage adjust would be the tart. That is not hard to do. If that doesn't resolve it then the Charge pump check valve or acceleration valve issues require significant work. Not a afternoon project in the driveway. There are several threads here about repairing sundstrands.
