7-151988 Die Hard debuts, makes Bruce Willis a movie star On this day in 1988, Die Hard, an action film starring Bruce Willis as wisecracking New York City cop John McClane, opens in theaters across the United States. A huge box-office hit, the film established Willis as a movie star and spawned three sequels. Die Hard also became Hollywood shorthand for describing the plot of other actions films, as in “Speed is Die Hard on a bus.” Based on Roderick Thorp’s novel Nothing Lasts Forever, Die Hard follows McClane as he goes to meet his estranged wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) at her company’s holiday party in a Los Angeles office building. When the building is taken over by a band of terrorists led by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), McClane must single-handedly fight off the bad guys. As played by Willis, McClane was notable as a new type of action hero–funny and flawed. The film, which was directed by John McTiernan (The Hunt for Red October, Last Action Hero), received four Oscar nominations, for Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Effects Editing. Willis, who was born March 19, 1955, and grew up in New Jersey, first rose to fame with the romantic comedy/detective drama TV series Moonlighting (1985-1989), in which he played smart-aleck private eye David Addison, who ran a detective agency with ex-model Maddie Hayes, played by Cybill Shepherd. After the success of Die Hard, Willis, emerged as one of Hollywood’s top leading men. In addition to starring in three Die Hard sequels: Die Hard 2 (1990), Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) and Live Free or Die Hard (2007), Willis racked up a long list of movie credits, including roles in Pulp Fiction (1994), Twelve Monkeys (1995) andArmageddon (1998). In 1999, he co-starred in The Sixth Sense (1999), an Oscar-nominated horror film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The film was a huge commercial and critical success and became famous for the line “I see dead people.” Willis also starred in Shyamalan’s 2000 film Unbreakable. From 1987 to 2000, Willis was married to Demi Moore, who also emerged as an A-list star in the 1980s and 1990s, appearing in high-profile films such as St. Elmo’s Fire (1985), Ghost (1990), A Few Good Men (1992), Indecent Proposal (1993),Striptease (1996) and G.I. Jane (1997). Willis and Moore have three daughters together and remain friends after their divorce, frequently making public appearances together with Moore’s second husband, actor Ashton Kutcher.

Per the parts catalogs, both the 310 and the 520 uses the same frame, part no. 78-2680, which replaces 110648.

That's why it's so important to support the WHCC by being or becoming a member, buying raffle tickets and/or shirts and hats. That's what allows it to be the best show around.

It must be the female mind that says when I (the male) bring something new home (not counting shoes, dresses or girlie stuff) then I must select a toy from those I already have and get rid of it! Fortunately to her exasperation I think my wife has finally given up on such directives and simply settled for occasionally grumbling and complaining about my junk etc, etc, etc. I think she knows I really hate her grumbling and complaining but sadly for her Only rarely have I ever taken the bait when she has done such trolling for a squabble. I find humor in that though and just stay mum, show no emotion as she rants then go about my way. She had to know that marrying a man that was 36 and had all those years alone to develop machine and tool addictions the chances of changing that man would be slim to none! I will say I am fortunate though, I know my wife has no love for my tools, machines, and various treasures but at least most of the time she is smart enough to know my addiction to tools, machinery and generally old stuff will probably never comply with her wishes until I croak. For example she knew before we married that she could have her say in the house, but those wishes stopped at the boundaries of the house and do not, nor ever will, extend the 70 feet to my garage/shop. I made it crystal clear before we married that I would not be with a woman that figured she would have me steppin and fetchin on her schedule. I have never done that to her and I expect the same courtesy in return. She may not like it, but she knew going in my shop stuff is not her concern. Well, let me qualify that. I try to never abuse our budget buying toys, and generally what I spend is of less concern to her than the fact that I am dragging more stuff home!

Ok, here we go, from where we brought it home, shopping för a cheep hot dog on a "utility store". 5 SEK for a hot dog, thats about 90 $ cent... Unforturnatley they had stopped serving for the day, but that gave us a opportunity to take a shot or two. ..

Token Mirror shot: Rig: I was incredibly impressed with how the Outback pulled that load. It had plenty of torque, you knew it was there, but it pulled it happily. Trailer pulled like a dream. Temps never even rose above normal, and still managed 25mpg on the return trip (about 50 miles)!! I did get a fair amount of strange looks.

I bought a set of Z BEND PLIERS. One of those purchases I stand in amazement and wonder why in hades I waited so long to buy the right tool for the job. Love mine as well if I hve to spell it out:-)

If you're cutting the ouside sheath of the cable shorter... you're going to want to cut the inside anyway... otherwise, why shorten the sheath!? Save yourself all hassle.... cut the off one z bend, pull the wire out a little... cut the sheath, then get a pair of these..... bend the raw wire end in the right direction and never have to fight stupid twisty cable hookups again. LOVE mine. https://www.amazon.com/Hangar-9-Z-Bender-Pliers-HAN119/dp/B0006OBMJI/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1468513893&sr=1-1&keywords=z+bend+pliers RC plane guys use them to make their own control rods.

So a few months ago I found a really unbelievable deal on this 1984 ski tique. I have been cleaning it up and had the stripe repainted. This boat came from the factory with lettering that was taped off and then painted the stripe around it so they never actually made decals for this year and model. As usual with I have a project I call Terry. He went above and beyond as always. The only ones he did not do are the two small ones in the back. Here are the results of Terry's decals!

Here's my latest project, a sickle bar for the front to get into the long grass I have. I welded the frame onto an old tach a matic bracket. So it clips on. Then started on the cross shaft. then the tensioner and here it it is mounted and running video to come later when I fit the correct belt.

Pictures first. I can't complain about the traction. I backed into that fence post It climbed up and over, I only had time to jump off. No real damage was done to the Wheel Horse. Scratched the paint on the rear fender and warped that wore out seat. I twisted the seat back into shape with a board and ratchet strap.

I try and stay out of the dog house. My bread is buttered pretty good. She let me know why the veto on the 520 and its because it breaks my own rule of no more than $250 for a project. Which hit home because im a certified cheep ass. She did however approve the $225 purchase of a 71 bronco 14 with a good deck, snow/dirt blade, chains and plow. So all things considered we made up, i got a new tractor come tomorrow and ill live to deal another day. Lol. If anyone in Indiana or elseware that wants to drive is intrested in the 520 pm me and ill pass the guys number on. All I ask is some wheel horse love in return. Got that crushed C160 to nurse back to health you know

Only came with Ag's if the customer or dealer ordered it. As a dealer a lot of times we ordered so many with Ag's VS lawn tire's. More people used their tractors for gardening and lawn mowing back then. J.A. Nice find.

That is more information that could make a difference in what is wrong. Pull out the shifter and see if the ball on the end looks OK...not worn. See what the oil in it looks like...brown or tan means water is in the oil. You should not be able to jam the gears like you say in an 8 speed tranny. This is starting to sound like something with the detente balls, spring and stop. If the shifter looks OK, you are still going to want to open it up. It is still not a problem to fix. Watch the videos in that thread and see if anything pops out at you when you watch them. They are only like 5 to 10 minutes long, but you will see how things work. Tip: put the horse on blocks, drain the oil, put in 2 qts of diesel, run the horse in gear on blocks for about 15 minutes (3rd gear 3/4 throttle), drain. This will clean the trans out some and make it a much nicer job. The reason for doing this on blocks...the diesel could leak out your seals and leave a path in your yard.

Just do what I would do. Buy it anyway and either hide it or like the advice I gave another member in a post the other day tell her you bought it for her so you could spend more time togather or some line of crap like that......And in your case, you better duck!!!

Thanks guys! Back out for therapy with Dad again. Definitely goi g to leave the bullet holes Paul!!! I love the character. This poor thing has been modded, tweaked, and cut on by previous owners and I'm leaving it all! They also jacked the hood up with two 3/4" pieces of wood. Planning on replacing them with a metal block with mounts for a set of headlights. I also just painted the wheels regal red and clearcoated the metal to preserve the patina. I did decide to use a set of wider wheel horse branded tires and wheels on the front. I can't decide if I want the wheels to stay all red or to put a narrow silver stripe around the outer rim. I hope to lower the front sometime down the road. Jeff, that's one of the 6.5 horse predator engines and man does it sound mean with straight pipes! I'll try to post some more pics when I get back out next week. And Dad is doing great with therapy! He gets his stitches out next Thursday which should help with some of the pulling and pain.

Hope you have a junk throttle cable laying around.... you're going to practice when you get it.... trust me! I threw away a couple of little stair stepped wires after I got them! I'd imagine in a couple days this thread will be back at the top when all you guys get the pliers and come back to say "why the heck did I wait so long to find this tool?" I fought for years with the needlenose/vicegrips and such, then looked at the cheap z-bender tool... thinking I'd get one... but then I saw a set of these and had to have them. one pinch, perfect z-bends. Never regretted the purchase. I got mine off Amazon, but you should be able to find them at a local hobby shop too. The kind that deals in radio control aircraft and such. Those other kind like John posted the pic of are available by order at jacks small engines or tulsa engine warehouse.... or probably your local auto parts store. Tulsa Engine (tewarehouse.com) has three listed... Stens part number 750-455. Oregon part number 42-455 and off-brand 95-2061.... same tool at three different prices! All cheaper than the pliers, but I think the pliers are worth the extra few bucks. Easier to make a bend in the exact direction you want.

I think its a good price too. However the wife has vetoed the purchase unless I get rid of one of the herd. Not sure i can off load a horse that quick nore am i sure about which one. I know the 754 isnt going, the Charger 12 is my fav, the 875 I just picked up wedneaday, the 312-8 is my cruser and the C160 is crushed waiting for parts. Err

As mentioned above, driving this thing with the platform in the air, is interesting or more... exiting.... Slipping on the clutch result in a "wheely" regardless of range or gear... Will try to put a clip of it later on. Yesterday I found 4 loose bolts at the very heart of it, where both the tractor and the digger swings around. Must fix that before anything else... Putting greese at every joint is also on the agenda, should take less than a week, there are a lot of places... Motor oil för the tractor, perhaps anyone here gave advice of quality & amount? According to previous owner the engine is a 12 hp kohler, then the model should be a C120, right? The tractor was painted grey long time ago, probably to prevent or discover theft. Model plates and all was covered... Will try to remove it later on, too.

Hi, I just bought a Wheel Horse with the Finn Horse digger attached! Just before I did, I searched the net and the only thing I found was this forum, none other info was found... However the info found in this thread was very helpful and might be the reason I decided to buy it. I picked it up yesterday in the southmost of Sweden, where I live. Will post pictures when I get the time, but just to warn you, the tractor is not red, anymore...

I got this bimini top off ebay and like the quality and fit. Got it today and installed it this afternoon. For now I am going to call it done and get out on the lake and tow the kids around a bit. Jim....funny you should say that. He and I had a little race off this past weekend with the old crestliners

Hey Don, glad you weren't hurt, and the tractor looks fine too, just a few new "character" marks. Just my own personal opinion, but I think it's a little early to be competing for next year's RedSquare hard hat award. Was it Groucho Marx who said something like "I don't care to belong to any club that would have me as a member"?

Me too. This is the type of Z bend tool I've always used but the pliers look like they make a nice sharper bend.

Yes! How about an extra day with some donations, a $5 or $10 charge at the gate to pay for the fairgrounds, volunteers to help set up? A RedSquare Wednesday pre-show meet-n-greet. Maybe we could just use the big field to the left side so not to impact any WHCC stuff that goes on.

I pull the wire back through about 6 inches or so, then use cutoff or dremel to cut off to approximate length. Then slide wire back into position. I usually end up making a second cut as the length is way too long to route well the first time to make an accurate attempt.
  44. 2 points
Pull the wire out, cut the conduit, re-insert the wire. It's a good time to clean and lube the wire too. What kind does not allow the cable to be removed?
  45. 1 point
Yes, it turned out to be a very easy and no cost fix. I appreciate your contributions to this thread. You were really lucky Brian. That could have been really bad. Mine was just a chunk of tire kicked up when a pickup merged in front of me. I was lucky that it didn't get to the radiator. Damage like that would have made me late to the big show. Then I would have been really ticked. Well, my elation about the new grill ended quickly. I can't use it. I thought I'd get a black one that was ready for paint but the one I got was black but not paintable. The paint won't adhere properly. So back it goes and I'm giving up and giving the Ford dealer what they want for a factory grill in the correct color. So.....my attempt to save a few bucks ended up costing me more........again.......... I can't afford me.

Like Bob, I wasn't aware of this show either Dave. Here is the link. Unfortunately I loaned my trailer to my son yesterday to haul 4 wheelers to the mountains this weekend, so I can't bring any tractors, but may come to look. Dave, do you know when Wildfire will be pulling? Looks like garden tractor pull is Sunday @ 12:30.
