This is just one of the many reasons why I love RedSquare. As some of you probably already know, I threw a rod through the block on my 1277 while mowing about a month ago. Came home tonight and found this boxed up inside my front door...big shout out to @Bert for hooking me up with a new block...hope to have the old girl back up and running before long

When I came in from watching three deer last night, I found two ticks had hitched a ride. So it was time to mow some trails. Rustoleum may mix a purdy red color, but Mama Nature has the best blue, green, and gold.

Well I'm alive and still kicking, I'm thinking that's a good thing. It definitely wasn't a picnic that's for sure. My body is throwing out blood clots and they don't know where they are coming from, They've got more test's to do yet. I came home Friday afternoon. Yes Mike you hit it right on the nail, I had to get home to my dog Chance, I lost Linda at the end of April which was really rough on all of us, Chance included. She meant the world to him and me. She was the reason behind pretty much everything that I had done. I always tried to make sure

Had two 20 ft sections of commercial antenna tower to move, my other hobby Ham Radio. So I made a moving dolly at work for the 400 lb base section and then hooked it up to a Horse, A Wheel Horse of course. Having fun with the 1054 !!

There is nothing like the first time you see one in pieces and then get it to run.

This horse is Scott's. This was taken at the 2010 Charlott, Mich. show. I am not sure Scott owns this anymore, but it sure was nice. There are 2 more batteries under the seat.

Finally got the drive pulley off. I've never had anything fight me the whole way like this thing did. I ended up having to make a puller out of plumbing parts and use an impact wrench along with lots of penetrating oil and a torch. It would budge a tiny bit at a time, and took several attempts to get it off. The only thing left in the block is the crank bearings. What's the consensus on replacing those? The Governor gear was all in one piece and the tab on the cross shaft wasn't broken, so I'm not sure what caused the over-rev. I still need to do some cleaning and measuring, but the cylinder bore measures almost as new, so I'm not sure whether to have it bored or not. I'm going to read the Kohler engine rebuilding guide and think on it.

Before my adventure into the Wheel Horse project, my Dad and I built a show quality Fordor Ford Model A. We participated in numerous shows all over Florida. BELIEVE ME when I tell you, the single fastest way to RUIN the friendly feelings and fun at the WHCC show would be to foster serious 'for trophy" competition. PLEASE don't do that!!!!!!!

This is where a company like HAPCO should step in and offer reproduction parts like they do for John Deere. I'm sure there would be a large enough market since there are a lot of older Wheel Horses out there. I'm sure Kate and Brandon would be willing to listen and may entertain the idea.

Thanks guys...this will be my first rebuild of a Kohler...I've built several small block Chevys so figure that this should go pretty smooth

POKER RUN is an excellent idea!!!!!! Plus every member can participate, not just 520 owners. One nice thing about the WHCC show is that there is NO judging. EVERY tractor there is just as important as the one next to it and so on down the line. If they were judging customs this year, I probably wouldn't have even bothered to build that bike in time once I saw Bob Rock's stuff. Or that stretched D200 (but saw that one AT the show.) Or quite a few others that were there too! But just a "gathering", I'd be sure to bring something every time.

Short time lurker here. I'm from the north side Indianapolis, near Zionsville. I have a 312-8, not sure of year, with a 48" deck, a snow blade, and a snowblower. I also just got a Raider 10 and a 42"? deck a couple months ago. It has the HH100, but the ignition is out, so I'm in the process of replacing it with a Kohler 10 from a 310-8. Photos of the 312-8 rigged for winter duty (just picked up the snowblower this spring), and the Raider 10 on its way home.

6-29-1967 The Stones fight the law, and the law wins On June 29, 1967, Keith Richards sat before magistrates in Chichester, West Sussex, England, facing charges that stemmed from the infamous raid of Richards’ Redlands estate five months earlier. Though the raid netted very little in the way of actual drugs, what it did net was a great deal of notoriety for the already notorious Rolling Stones. It was during this raid that the police famously encountered a young Marianne Faithfull clad only in a bearskin rug, a fact that the prosecutor in the case seemed to regard as highly relevant to the case at hand. In questioning Richards, Queen’s Counsel Malcolm Morris tried to imply that Faithfull’s nudity was probably the result of a loss of inhibition due to cannabis use: QC Morris: Would you agree in the ordinary course of events you would expect a young woman to be embarrassed if she had nothing on but a rug in the presence of eight men, two of whom were hangers-on and the third a Moroccan servant? Richards: Not at all Morris: You regard that, do you, as quite normal? Richards: “We are not old men. We are not worried about petty morals.” With that one line, Richards emphatically established himself as the spokesman for a generation that did not share the values of the British establishment. The charges brought against him by that establishment, however, were quite serious. While Mick Jagger stood charged with illegal possession of four amphetamine tablets he’d purchased in Italy, Richards faced the far more serious charge of allowing his house to be used for the purpose of smoking what the law at the time referred to as “Indian hemp.”

When I got home from the show Saturday, my grandson asked me if my tractor won a prize. I told him no, but that is what I like about the WHCC show, no awards But we all did get ice cream.

Hello all, I thought I'd sign up and share my experience and document my progress, since I've been getting so much info here for rebuilding this K341. Maybe people can get something out of it and if anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it as I go. The engine is off my dad's 416-8, and it ran really good until it suffered what my dad thought was a governor gear failure--it went into over-rev meltdown mode all of a sudden. Until I get the crank and cam out I won't know for sure but the governor gear is still in place, so I'm not sure if that was the cause or not. I'm waiting on a valve spring compressor to arrive and the drive pulley is refusing to come off so it's soaking in kroil penetrating oil. Surprisingly the flywheel came off pretty easy after a 24 hour soak and using a cheap harmonic balancer puller. The tractor has 1800 hours on the clock, and the clock had stopped working some time before my dad got it so it could have twice that much time on the engine for all I know. It amazes me how good it looks inside, and how little wear there appears to be. I guess I'll see when I measure everything, but everyone who had this tractor must have done well with regular oil changes. Doesn't look like anyones ever been inside the engine before. I found half of an oil pressure sensor in the oil pan and a bunch of its little plastic chunks stuck in the balance gears and had jammed up the automatic compression release mechanisms. I used oven cleaner to get the carbon off the piston and head. Probably can't recommend doing it this way, as apparently it doesn't get along with aluminum. I didn't leave it on long enough to do any damage but it did make the parts go from shiny to a dull patina. This stuff is nasty, even outdoors the fumes were choking me. And it says right on the can not to use it on aluminum. Probably should have read the can first, I'm old enough to know better.

Sluggo, Guess would be around a hundred pounds more or less.If you remove the chute you can lift one side into the trunk and then raise the other end you might load it yourself.I would suggest the chute removal not to lighten the blower but to give you a an extra grab point and reduce damage to the chute. The blower itself is pretty tough but the chute is thin sheet steel.Best solution is bribe a friend with some liquid reward and get a second set of hands.Loading will be much easier with two people. When lifting the beast watch for pinch points. The auger rotates freely.Luck,JAinVA

It all comes down to originality, and originality comes at a premium on consumable parts like a muffler.

I took a lot more, but it only let me post so many. I tried to take pictures of any tractor no matter the condition. They're all great tractors! And seeing we all like pictures, what does condition matter as long as you get to see it. Why see a lot of pictures of the same tractor, just because it's perfect The more the better, right?

After looking for some time for a steering wheel for my C141, I could not find one at an acceptable price. Steering wheels that cost almost as much as the entire tractor had damage and were poor cosmetically. So, looking at my John Deere 200 series tractors I noted that the steering wheels were very similar and that started me thinking. My C141 has a 3/4" diameter steering shaft with a 1/4" roll pin, I looked on eBay and found a Deere steering wheel in nice condition with 3/4" hole and 1/4" cross hole for $25 including shipping. It fits perfectly on my Horse and is made by the same company as the broken original. The wheel diameter is the same and the height differs by 1/2". Both are 3 spoke but the mold differs between the Deere and WH. Guys, don't stone me for owning Deeres. Where I live Deere garden tractors are common but not WH. Had to drive 200 miles to buy the WH but am happy I did. If you are having difficulty finding a WH part, consider whether parts from another brand tractor will fit. Steering wheels, seats, wheels, engines, etc. may fit your Horse. I like to keep original equipment where possible, but this is not always economically feasible. I figure it is better to keep the Horse alive than insist on originality as my tractors are working models not show tractors. Thanks to all for your contributions to this site.

The plate on the steering wheel is where you mount your smart phone. Seriously, I would look under the plate to see whether it is to reinforce a broken steering wheel hub. The steering wheel looks like it's original, but not in great condition. The 854 is overpriced at $550. The 8hp engine is easier to find parts for than the 7hp, but the 702 looks to be in great condition. Is the 854 running? I'd try to negotiate a price on the 702, especially if it's been for sale for awhile. It's more collectible, and in much better condition. Good luck. Jim BTW, did you make it to the W H show? Sorry I didn't get to meet you in person there.

Here is a rule I have, if I need to borrow it twice in two years I need to own it. Obviously not big dollar items that you rent once in a while. I had to tell a good friend of mine he was no longer allowed to borrow tools. It was awkward because we are close friends, but I had to stop it. He has an excavation business and no tools, after loosing tools that were in my family for years I had to tell him that if you want equipment you need to take some of the profit and get your own! Even cut off my brother from certain things, (pressure washer, leaf blowers, etc) I worked for it so he can too!

Well he was trying to help a buddy who lost his heat shield and his first reaction was to pick it up. He burnt 4 fingers bad. The other one on his knee happened trying to unload the tractor and the one on the back of his leg happened on the shaft pulley. He is a tough kid but man the finger burns were bad. Thanks for Buckrancher and Karl for helping patch him up!
