12 pointsStopped for a coffee at my local Rutters service station in Collinsville, Pa. yesterday and was surprised by this scene. I'm sure he is filling them with 100% refined corn juice(ethanol) as gasoline would probably be fatal.

12 pointsThe Sea Gods were shining on Mrs K and I on Saturday. Providing us with about 4 dozen hard shells. They were not jumbos, but were all full and sweet. Mike showed up to help with the picking.

10 pointsJust wanted to show my garden! Potatoes, tomatoes and onions really took off! Spring time prep included cow manure, a little pot ash and 6-24-24 fertilizer.

8 pointsLost my Dad last year in May and yesterday we just laid the last of his closest friends (another father figure to me) to rest. Below is a picture of Dad and I with the Cockshutt 20 Deluxe at its first show shortly after we restored it. This was one of the 16 farm tractors in his collection plus he had four 82 series Cub Cadets. I thank him for getting me started with tractors and miss restoring them with him. Happy fathers day to all!

7 pointsHaving lost my father in 2004, and just recently his only remaining sibling, that makes me and my cousins the "elders" of the Maynard clan. I hope to hold that title for a while. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.

7 pointsI put these four in the barn around 5yrs ago Just dug them out today. Almost all the tires stayed up but then they were sitting on jack stands. Should just have to put battery's in them to fire up. Now to wash and wax and put them back in the barn....................

6 pointsMy 10 year old daughter Bailey out riding the 416 I have listed for sale. She likes it because I don't have Matt's kit installed on it. She can't reach foot pedals. I bought her a 4 wheeler last year but sold it because she didn't like it. She loves the Wheel Horse though.

5 pointsWith that white seat on that gorgeous tractor and your trees trimmed like they are, just add a white umbrella and you'd have it made in the shade. Then you could sell that zero turn......

5 pointsSome unsolicited pointers.... 1) The o-rings for for the Hydro Cam controller are very hard to come by. NLA. So if at all possible try to avoid removing the cam assembly and disrupting or damaging the o-rings or you will have a perpetual leaking hydro. 2) The holes in the two parallel side plates tend to get worn or enlarged and it impacts the smoothness of operation. I used bronze bushings but if I had it to do over,,,and I may very well do so soon, I would have steel bushing welded in place. 3) The exact spring that connects from the parking lever (at least that's what I call it) to the hydro engage lever is also no longer available, NLA, so take care to try not to damage. It can be repaced with something of similar spring tension and length but the holes in the two connection points then may need enlarged. 4) The Hydro directional and speed controller lever can be finicky. I found that in 3 of the 4 I have dismantled that the shaft key was missing. Hard to impossible for it to fall out so I assume prior owners neglected to install it when doing repairs. If you want any resistive tension that piece needs to be properly installed. 5) The hydraulic fittings aware unique and there is a thread another fellow did explaining the work around and the sources he ordered parts from. So make good use of the search function. It's a life saver as there is tons of experience documented by the other forum members. 6) plan on replacing your ball joints. I thought I could get away with the originals and I can tell you that 50 year old ball joints WILL fail. Just a matter of time. The guys on this forum helped me with the work around so it's in a recent thread. Problem being the 7/16-20 - 1/2-20 ball joint. I have still not found one. As I said the work around is documented. 7) rear tires - if you stick with stock rims, hopefully your tires are in good shape. Otherwise replacements options are slim. I went with Carlisles. Turns out they are a pretty good match even though the stated size is larger. So over years tire sizes have seemingly inflated:-) Warning....Carlisles are pricy. Ag's if you want them can be found at I want to say Stop and Go or something like that. They are tall and thinner than I prefer. Otherwise rat hub swap and different rims are in order. 8) take a look as 953 indicated at not just my thread but several GT14 related threads. You will see 953, Oldredrider, Shynon, Ztnoo, pftederi and several others who are experienced and extremely helpful. I learned a lot by staying up on all restoration threads. Much of discussion crosses over. 9) unless you want to be tearing down your freshly assembled tractor in near future, change seals and bearings while you have it apart. I tried to post a lot of pics and details in hoped that the threads may be helpful but if you hit a snag, I will try to assist best I can. Strange that although I tore one down and assembled it, I still feel like those guys I referenced in item 8 are going to be of more help than I can be. They have been at this stolid longer than I have by large margin.

4 pointsSeveral years ago we were traveling from the Street Rod Nationals to upstate NY and happened to pull of for gas in Pennsylvanian Dutch country. A man driving a one horse wagon pulled in for kerosene while I was inside paying for our gas. After visiting the restroom I came out and went over to admire the wagon, unbeknownst to me, the young man was beside my street rod checking it out. Next thing I heard was my wife laughing at both of us, we had a brief conversation and went on our way,

3 pointsIf that pin is REALLY REALLY stuck....rusted to the trans case, you MAY have to drill it out. The pin is relatively soft and drills easily with a good drill bit(s). Cut it off flush with on each side, mark for center, then drill a 1/8 pilot hole, then open up to 1/4...1/2 etc progressively. (it'll probably break free with a 1/2 hole thru it. Don't hammer on it from either side...you'll flare-out the ends of it. I have used a round-point punch is my pneumatic hammer with success, after soaking it for a couple days in some rust penetrant. An acetylene torch to heat it up?...... dunno, never tried that.

3 pointsI do agree with Paul on the over thought bit. Sure enough the L-107 calls for 40w. It has a 5053 transmission. Many others have the 5053 as well including my 500 Special. The odd thing is that my manual calls for 90W. But, the 657 also has the 5053 and calls for 40W. Apparently they made the switch in 1968.

3 pointsHere it is, the WHCC raffle tractor. The engine will be installed Wednesday. A huge THANK YOU to Kevin Townsend (Ken) for donating a nice running 16hp Onan engine. Not only that, but he custom built an exhaust system and stack for it. He's going to bring it along from Indiana with him, and we're going to get it running before the show (hopefully). I wanted this to be Onan powered, since the tractor started life as a 520, and I wanted the dash gauges to be functional. Terry Dennis donated the decals, though he probably doesn't realize it. It was an extra set that he sent along waaaaay back when I was building something. I had to cut the front corners to make them fit since I altered the hood. See some of you in a few days!

3 pointsIt was in 1964 that 40W was recommended. Service bulletin #55 addresses it. The reasoning was to minimize 'gear locking conditions'. At the shifter rails continued to be modified the issue was corrected with the flats in the rails and they went back to recommending the heavier stuff. As Bob said, any good gear oil is fine. 80W90, 90W140 or.....

3 pointsMy daughter is 47 now and still talks about driving my first tractor when she was about your daughters age. Your daughter is making memories that will last a lifetime.

3 pointsLooks like you are off to a good start, and by the way, Welcome to RS! Like Aldon said there's lots of learned advice shored up here and available with a few strokes of the keyboard, so don't be shy about asking for help, advice or direction, if need be. We also love pics, lot of them, so snap away as you proceed along your resto path. Regards, Steve
