No, I don't recommend it. Sorry... can't find anyone dumb enough to film this on a red tractor! Break ground with shovel cutting some roots if possible, Gently soak before, not saturate (you don't want to create sticky/suction-y mud), Use your truck and a chain, hook low and pull slow (Low gear 4WD if possible.) Garden tractors are not really up to the task of pulling them out of the ground. Across the ground once they're out, yes, by all means. Drag them all over, all you want!

5-23-1934 Police kill famous outlaws Bonnie and Clyde On this day in 1934, notorious criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow are shot to death by Texas and Louisiana state police while driving a stolen car near Sailes, Louisiana. Bonnie Parker met the charismatic Clyde Barrow in Texas when she was 19 years old and her husband (she married when she was 16) was serving time in jail for murder. Shortly after they met, Barrow was imprisoned for robbery. Parker visited him every day, and smuggled a gun into prison to help him escape, but he was soon caught in Ohio and sent back to jail. When Barrow was paroled in 1932, he immediately hooked up with Parker, and the couple began a life of crime together. After they stole a car and committed several robberies, Parker was caught by police and sent to jail for two months. Released in mid-1932, she rejoined Barrow. Over the next two years, the couple teamed with various accomplices to rob a string of banks and stores across five states–Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, New Mexico and Louisiana. To law enforcement agents, the Barrow Gang–including Barrow’s childhood friend, Raymond Hamilton, W.D. Jones, Henry Methvin, Barrow’s brother Buck and his wife Blanche, among others–were cold-blooded criminals who didn’t hesitate to kill anyone who got in their way, especially police or sheriff’s deputies. Among the public, however, Parker and Barrow’s reputation as dangerous outlaws was mixed with a romantic view of the couple as “Robin Hood”-like folk heroes. Their fame was increased by the fact that Bonnie was a woman–an unlikely criminal–and by the fact that the couple posed for playful photographs together, which were later found by police and released to the media. Police almost captured the famous duo twice in the spring of 1933, with surprise raids on their hideouts in Joplin and Platte City, Missouri. Buck Barrow was killed in the second raid, and Blanche was arrested, but Bonnie and Clyde escaped once again. In January 1934, they attacked the Eastham Prison Farm in Texas to help Hamilton break out of jail, shooting several guards with machine guns and killing one. Texan prison officials hired a retired Texas police officer, Captain Frank Hamer, as a special investigator to track down Parker and Barrow. After a three-month search, Hamer traced the couple to Louisiana, where Henry Methvin’s family lived. Before dawn on May 23, Hamer and a group of Louisiana and Texas lawmen hid in the bushes along a country road outside Sailes. When Parker and Barrow appeared, the officers opened fire, killing the couple instantly in a hail of bullets.

Think you did GREAT C81 my favorite tractor....not so much for the mower... but it is a bear for pushing snow and doing chores around the property, good fuel, clean carb and a good set of points and you will have one (in my opinion) one of the best machines made.

Decided to build somthing out of my old 552 that's where the fun began. I put a 13 hp Honda gsx motor on removed the gov and a few others little mods for more hp.... Still gonna add some custom details to make it one of a kind. I clocked it at 35 mph and it was very scary and shakes very bad that's where it got the name... Seizure. Plan to build custom dual exuast also.

Well, here is the update. I needed to practice before I open up the 1067 (too emotionally vested). So I opened up my SK-486. I was shocked at how dirty things were considering how well it runs. Now it is clean and still purrs like a kitten. Good old Kohler K341!

When pulling bushes root ball and all from the earth if the soil is very dry and hard, soak the area around the bushes well with water and wait an hour or so. I learned that the hard way. I had good sized evergreen bush I wanted to pull out on a very hot, dry stretch of weather years ago. I had a 1973 3/4 ton 4x4 Chevy with a 500 gal. water tank full of water in the truck bed and a 25 foot log chain attached to the bush and rear step bumper hitch. An automatic transmission in low gear and gear drive transfer case shifted into low range......... I left some slack in the chain and mashed down on the gas pedal. When I hit the end of the slack, The truck instantly came to a dead stop, Some of the water shot out of the tank, went on and over the roof onto the windshield and hood. The engine cooling fan was now rubbing on the fan shroud making a terrible racket and the trucks motor mounts were broke...... The bush was still in the ground and the neighbors were laughing and pointing. I walked to the garage to get a shovel and a towel........ Please be very cautious. You dont want the tractor on top of you.....

Sounds like you belt is dragging, could be because you pulleys are rusty or you belt is just stiff. Try removing the belt and polish the engine pulley up with some sand paper or scotch brite

These are great tractors. I have three (518xi, 520xi, and a diesel 523Dxi) that I really enjoy using. The GT 550 was sold in 2006 and 2007. It was previously the 522xi with different decals. It also should have hydraulic steering besides the hydraulic lift. https://www.toro.com/home/tractors/5xi/490-7196_5xi_lo.pdf From what you said, barring any real issues, it should be a good deal at the $2K mark. The only negative to the series is that they do not use the standard Wheel Horse attachments. Their attachments are specific to the 5xi/GT 550 series and do command a bit higher price on the used market. They are out there but may take a while to find.

As others said "you stole it!" Geez, that is a nice looking tractor! (course I'm a bit partial to the "big D's" I have 4 of them...) As mentioned check for a safety switch problem, If in doubt on one, just temporarily jumper it. Rig up a test light or meter to the coil and start wiggling wires etc. Obviously the seat switch needs to be checked since there isnt a seat! Dont be surprised if the switches are already jumpered, they can be such a pain - Ive bypassed all of mine or rermoved them My first thought on spark fire is an all too familiar thing that happens to points after sitting for an extended time, they will get a "glaze" on them. Solution is simple, get a small piece fine grit sand paper, fold it and drag it through the points rubbing off the glaze. And fortunately the points are easily accessible on your engine just under the air cleaner. Electric fuel pumps are a very good thing to have, I have one on all my D's. Now, the biggie - the transmission! That could be a real problem, the Sundstrands (and the steering) are the biggest problem with the D's and I really dont have any pointers on them (all mine work very well) Hopefully after you get it running we can tell more about it... Again, really nice looking tractor!

Got lucky kind of... sort of. I have a c-160 that must have been put away with very little to no gas. After some tinkering fired up about the first time I tried but did not stay running. A few days of having to track down a condenser later and off it went. By then though I had the points and new hoses, etc. But was less than 3 minutes maybe even 2 to fire up that first time

Glenn nailed it! I cringe every time I chime in on one of these "What is it" posts. A half century of previous owner's little tweaks has taken place, but ALL of us are sure we know. Dare we ask if there is an ID Tag on it?

Replaced the belts and plug, changed the engine and transmission oils, new filters, reset high/low carborator mixture, and adjusted the points. It runs like good music. 50 year old 1067. Probably my favorite.

I just purchased a 310-8 this weekend. No deck, some rust, wrong seat bracket but with a good seat, undersized rear tires (12-6), 2 year old battery, no lights or bezels, but it does run good. Owner said $150 .... I gave him $150. And got 2 extra rear wheels.

IMO you have done a great job refreshing the tractor. Pull the head and clean the carbon out. All it takes is time and a new head gasket. Then you'll know the inside is as clean as the outside. Chunks of carbon can break off and score the cylinder if not cleaned; Cleaning is cheaper than rebuilding.

Thank you to those you replied to my enquiry. I understand how it works now. I have never come across such a mechanisum like this before. I appreciate the downloads you have suggested and have already printed one off. Thanks again Stuart the Newbie

There is a safety switch related tot eh PTO lever on the left side it will not let the engine crank or fire if it the PTO is not disengaged. The pump for the loader usually is run off the PTO so the PTO lever would have had to be functional for the loader to work. Look for a button type safety switch on against the PTO linkage under the hood near the dash panel. Fuel pump was originally a pulse job...many failed and electric is a good cheap replacement

Don't trust those old Wheel Horse tie rods, it appears that's what's still on there! They come apart just driving a tractor at normal speed. If one does break at those speeds, your new screen name could be Superman, Road Rash or Dental Plan -- or all of the above. Plus, new ends will be adjustable and aligning the tires with some Toe In will help with the shopping cart shake.

Alright guys...sorry for the delay in my response, but here is an update on my progress......I installed the new carb, replaced the diaphragm in my fuel pump, installed all new fuel line, replaced the in-line fuel filter, installed an in-line fuel shutoff valve, replaced the air filter, and cleaned the inside of the fuel tank and petcock......so, it's running 100% better! I still need to dial the new carb in a bit, but it's running so much better than before! Now...I need to tackle a wiring issue! Anyhow...thanks for everyone's input!!!

I have a friend that goes to a lot of estate sales. He called and told me he had bought me a "parts" tractor with a blade and worn out deck. I got it home, decided it didn't look bad enough to part out so I cleaned out all the leaves and pine needles. Cleaned the fuel tank and carb and threw a jet ski battery on it. Took about an hour. It's actually a pretty nice little tractor.

My 1974 C-160 that I bought last year leaked lots of oil every time I would move the cylinder- between the hoses and cylinder I don't know which one leaked more - so I rebuilt the welded together hydraulic cylinder and I made new hydraulic hoses for it. I think this is now my favorite C-160 (I better not say that to loud the other C-160s will get jealous) Now it is dry as a bone and I know how you guys love pictures so here some pictures of it in action.

It could be a scam. They have been known to lift a pic off the internet and then want money wired to them. They don't even have the tractor.

Let me give you some background. My dad bought this tractor new in 1967. I was 11 years old. I learned to drive and mowed our acre lot with it. Dad really enjoyed driving it, but was not mechanically inclined. I inherited it when dad passed away a few years ago. It was in pretty rough shape. I have spent two years restoring it and use it along with a SK-486 to mow, thatch, and aerate a half acre lawn. So it gets regular use in the summer but not heavy duty type stuff. I do not use it for snow and it has never gotten wet (in 50 years). It runs like new and it gets cleaned after every use. I have a sentimental passion for it. The braided cables were added to the hinged seat and hood to prevent them from overextending and to reduce stress on the hinge joints. They work well. The last aspect of the restoration is to remove the cylinder head and clean carbon that has built up on the piston and valve heads. I know it needs to be done but I am reluctant to open it up because the engine runs fine as is. So here is the question, would you open up a 50 year old engine that is running fine just to clean carbon deposits. I'm interested in your opinions? Thanks! Al.

Welcome to Red Square and I wouldnt worry about the tranny. Now if was one of those new models with a 15 pound pot metal tranny, I would worry.

I saw that machine and it is only about 20 miles from me. I would have bought it except 1. Already have one (anniversary edition) 2. Have 4 working machines already 3. No place to put it 4. Want to stay married $950 is a good price. Make sure to ask if the hour meter is working?

Looks good. Just one thing. Those pics were taken while the tractor was wet. Paint might not be actually that shiny.
