8 pointsMy 1974 C-160 that I bought last year leaked lots of oil every time I would move the cylinder- between the hoses and cylinder I don't know which one leaked more - so I rebuilt the welded together hydraulic cylinder and I made new hydraulic hoses for it. I think this is now my favorite C-160 (I better not say that to loud the other C-160s will get jealous) Now it is dry as a bone and I know how you guys love pictures so here some pictures of it in action.

6 pointsI bought it, I like it, but what is it? Has a K181 in it , could that be original?

6 points5-22-1992 Johnny Carson hosts nbc’s tonight show for the last time Six months after Jack Paar made a stormy departure from "The Tonight Show" (over jokes about Communism, among other issues) and viewers enduring a succession of "substitute" hosts (and an ill-fated attempt at a magazine-type show), NBC (and middle America) finally got the comedian they were waiting for. Johnny Carson – who had honed his craft on radio and daytime television, and to that point was best known as host of Who Do You Trust – made his debut as host of "The Tonight Show" on October 1, 1962. Thus began a love affair with America that lasted 30 years, not only making Carson wealthy and powerful, but earning him the title, "King of Late Night." It started out shaky. NBC built Carson a cheap set on the sixth floor of 30 Rockefeller Center, not thinking the show would last. Ed McMahon was less confident; he still lived in Philadelphia and commuted for the next three years. In 1962, "Tonight" began at 11:15 pm ET and lasted 105 minutes. By then, most NBC affiliates had inflated their late-evening newscasts to half an hour. It meant that, unless viewers tuned in on the NBC owned-and-operated stations in New York, Washington, DC, Chicago, Philadelphia, or Los Angeles, chances are they missed Carson's monologue. NBC quickly moved the start time of Johnny's show to 11:30 pm ET to ensure everyone could see the best part of his domain. In 1972, the show moved from New York to NBC's West Coast headquarters, thus setting up countless gags about "beautiful downtown Burbank."

4 pointsLast year I bought this 953 from @Ed Kennell. Ed pulled it out of a ditch where it had rusted away for who knows how long. Cleaned the carb, sanded the points with some 400, put another coil on it and a new fuel line and it fired right up. Much to my amazement, the lights even worked!

4 pointsAfter reading the entire posting I get the feeling everything is fine but the guy is just a little strange. I doubt he will get that much out of it but when you think that you can sink well over $2k in one of the big box toys it doesn't seem so bad.
-
4 pointsDon't blame you one bit Karl. The last 2 years I have sold quite a few things and was so busy with that, it was hard to enjoy the show and people. This year almost everything I have is pre sold so I will be free to walk back and forth and keep Steve entertained!

4 pointsWow what great weather and a time to relax with friends! That for the video Bob! Great location to try that thing out for the first time Everybody made the right call to bail on today if you did, it started raining overnight and pretty much hasn't stopped A few show pics . . .
-
3 pointsThe last 2 years RedSquare in conjunction with ReDoYourHorse.com have provided a live feed for everyone who could not attend to see live the show. This year I am going to take a break from that activity and relax a little more. If anyone else is interested in providing a live feed, we can work out the links on the forum for you.

3 pointsAny weld shop or machine shop will be glad to cut a steel plate the size you need, just tell them how thick it is and the size you want it to be.

3 pointsA gentleman on the square here had a WH for sale near Nashville, TN. I had two of my son's go with me from Lima, OH to buy it, knowing the seller was honest and upfront about it not starting. He did mention it ran a year or two prior, to letting it set. After we had it home we spent probably 20-30 minutes checking gas pressure and spark then tried adjusting the levers and it started. We were really bummed for a minute or so because even though the mid and rear lift worked fine, we had no forward or reverse. Knowing there was no mention from the seller about it not being in driving condition, I remembered that we turned the tow valve to unload it from the trailer. The forward and reverse both worked fine after resetting the tow valve.

3 pointsMy first Wheel Horse, a FREEEEEEE 310-8, I literally picked up in two pieces. The previous owners teenage boys had been having wheelie contests on the hill behind the garage. The rear end mounting plate was beyond trashed. I think they did a lot of 3rd gear, push in clutch, coast backwards.........etc. I built a new plate and welded it on, (very squarely) It took less than 10 minutes to get it running. Total spend was a shift rod, choke cable & battery. I put SEVENTY hours on it last summer. I help maintain the local Rails-To-Trails in our town. I mowed a 5 mile stretch of the trail (berms) 4 times last year with it. It doesn't even know its old........sips fuel....... The hook was set, now we have 3. and I was raised hard core cub cadet!
-
3 pointsCan't say that I had it running within minutes cause I never even tried starting it as it wasn't the original engine but my 701 was in pretty bad shape when she followed me home...hopefully someday this little jewel will run again
-
3 pointsPerhaps a 702. Yours looks too fast for you to outrun it.

3 pointsWant to rebuild another leaking welded cylinder? Around here I haven't found anyone who is willing to rebuild a welded cylinder. Great job!
-
3 pointsRuss (Saltywright) was the 2nd choice last year! not sure but maybe the Admin/Mods can create one of those "voting do hickey" things at the top of this post?
-
3 pointsThere are bolts coming up from under the frame into blind holes in the oil pan on the right side.
-
3 pointsWay cool mowers. Looked up under hot rod push mower on youtube and the guy built it out of a grill lid. Think the other one was an original mower, albeit enhanced quite a bit.

2 pointsReplaced the belts and plug, changed the engine and transmission oils, new filters, reset high/low carborator mixture, and adjusted the points. It runs like good music. 50 year old 1067. Probably my favorite.

2 pointsThis is my first wheel horse and i love the tractor other than one issue. So i bought a 1996 toro Wheel horse. I was mowing my lawn for the first time and noticed the motor was moving around too much. Upon further inspection the motor bolts were loose. I tightened them, but there was only 2 bolts present. I did more research and the chassis is a 96 according to the id tag and the motor is the correct kohler 12 also manufactured in 96. Is there just two bolts that hold the engine in or am i crazy? on the PTO spindle side it looks like the engine bolt holes just hang off the tractor by like an inch and are way off. I thought i was missing some kind of engine mounting plate or something. I searched the internet and it lead me to this great wheel horse forum. I looked up a few schematics and they were not that helpful. Any help is appreciated. Below is a picture of her i had to pick it up it was very clean.

2 pointsDecided to build somthing out of my old 552 that's where the fun began. I put a 13 hp Honda gsx motor on removed the gov and a few others little mods for more hp.... Still gonna add some custom details to make it one of a kind. I clocked it at 35 mph and it was very scary and shakes very bad that's where it got the name... Seizure. Plan to build custom dual exuast also.
-
2 pointsDon't trust those old Wheel Horse tie rods, it appears that's what's still on there! They come apart just driving a tractor at normal speed. If one does break at those speeds, your new screen name could be Superman, Road Rash or Dental Plan -- or all of the above. Plus, new ends will be adjustable and aligning the tires with some Toe In will help with the shopping cart shake.
-
2 pointsSo I finally got a chance to mess around with the Charger12 auto I picked up a few weeks back. the tractor had been sitting outside under a tarp for about 15 years , put a little gas in it a few shots of starter fluid and motor was humming along . only problem is it would go in reverse but not forward it seemed like it was in the lever ????? so I figured something rusted fast down inside there I took that plate off and low and behold the whole box was filled up with 40+ black walnut shells and some kind of bird bone! I cleaned out all those nut hulls that were blocking the lever from working , and 2 minutes later I was mowing grass with the thing!

2 pointsYou have a 1975 D, looks great, as @roadapples said, you didn't even pay for the loader, the was free. When you are faced with an electrical problem the first step is to clean and tighten ALL connectors. The manual will help you see what has been changed over the years and help with wiring.
-
2 pointsCan you just drill new holes in the riser plate for the Kohler?

2 pointsMany years back I picked up a free older MTD (when they were cast iron) because it had no spark. Pulled the flywheel and found the entire area behind it full of roach droppings and eggs; blew it out with an air hose, put the flywheel back on and had spark. I don't have any pictures either.
-
2 pointsThat may take a lot more effort than selling....Coach should keep a live feed on you two.....
-
2 pointsThanks Garry I didn't realize the pto had its own separate manual...that explains why I couldn't find it in any of the ones I had
-
2 pointsIt could be a scam. They have been known to lift a pic off the internet and then want money wired to them. They don't even have the tractor.
-
2 pointsThere's no reason you can't switch back and no down side to him using it either. It's a superior oil and I don't think it's overkill at all. The cost difference isn't all that much for no more than you use in a year.

2 pointsNot red but its going to allow me to get more red.....Finally got myself a horse hauler. 6.5 'x 12'. 3" x 4" rectangle tube frame, removable 1 1/2" square tube sides, LED lights. Leftover 2015...$625 off. Looks like I may be bringing some red to The Big Show this year. All I have to do is get the 18 auto driving and I need some help getting Jeb's all original 401 running reliably again. Me and small engines....

2 pointsThanks Richie, the black and the red do work well together Time for a well overdue update starting with...... A quick lesson in WHY NOT to rush a paint job!! The ally dash surround and fuel tank holder thingy were both painted in a rush of enthusiasm so I could see what they looked like with the top coats on!! Too much paint/not enough drying time/not sanding the primer coats looked just fine once the paint was on... However Monday I uncovered Why Not only to find the paint had sunk and cracked in places!! So yesterday I pulled the parts off to strip them of paint and start again!!! So remember kids, don't rush a paint job!! Finally panel painting time had come Yes I know it's hard to believe but Nigel was actually moving so fast he had started to blur Speaking of blurred, sorry for this naff photo.. Just when I thought I had finished with the red paint I found a rather large deep scratch in the freshly painted fender pan on Monday!! But somehow with some careful wet n dry work and some more paint the scratch vanished.. The wheels had got chipped with all the test driving so the paint was flattened back.... Here's the rears.. One front and two rears after a fresh coat of International Harvester White.... In a week or so they will be pin striped

2 pointsCouple things. If the filter is really old it could be clogged but that is very rare. If the bypass valve is sticking that will cause extremely high oil pressure. Below is from a rebuild article I did a few years ago. Applies to removing and replacing the bypass valve and spring. The oil bypass valve and spring are what regulates the oil pressure. The bolt in the first pic is removed and the spring will typically fall out after you turn the block upside down. Sometimes the bypass valve will come out with it, sometimes not. Not practical with engine still installed in machine. See next part.If not use a small magnetic pickup tool or spray some carb cleaner down the hole to breakup the oil that is holding it in place. If using compressed air to launch it out of the block, oil filter adapter must be removed, and you don't put a rag over the opening to catch it and hours later it's still hiding someplace you will never find it.....Part number is 120-0398.The valves hold up well but it's always a good idea to replace the spring, part number 120-0140 when rebuilding. When putting it back in, the "flat" end goes in first. The smaller rounded end on the top is what keeps the spring centered. Oil up the valve before installing it, drop it in the hole and then put the spring in. The copper washer can be reused if annealed. Heat it up cherry red and drop it into some water. What? You lost the bolt too? It's a 3/8-24 X 7/8. The length is what sets the oil pressure. Torque it to 10 foot pounds. Don't over tighten or you risk cracking the block!

2 pointsWell, I made it to the show Friday. I took lots of pictures but I have not had time to process them. Will post some later. But I did get a video of Zeek on his Cub Cadet making his first tractor pull. Quite impressive my friend.
-
2 pointsBack home from the Little Guys Show. It was a great visit with the family....some old and some new. Was great to finally meet you Zeek. And nice job on your yellow puller. Big To AC man Randy for the ice cream. That was a welcome treat today. The parade.

1 pointI've never seen the tapered shaft type gear reduction but have seen a couple with gear teeth on the shaft. Either way you will need to change the crank, modify it or weld a pulley on it to make it work without the reduction.
