8 pointsReplaced the belts and plug, changed the engine and transmission oils, new filters, reset high/low carborator mixture, and adjusted the points. It runs like good music. 50 year old 1067. Probably my favorite.

8 pointsI just picked up this 416 and it looked really bad. I paid 500 for it. The 16hp Onan sounds very nice with 1500 hours. I think someone just left the key on which made the clock keep ticking but still unsure. So i repainted it, new oil filter, air filter and put some weights on it. I really love this tractor. It makes very nice stripes with the mulcher 42". Its like a mix between a 300 series and 500 and is perfect. I'm planning to put my dual stage on this next winter. It will just be a bear to lift! Over all for it being my first time with a 400 series its sweet. Here are some pictures of this stallion!

7 pointsSounds like a dedicated Horse for mowing. Another Stallion, just in case you want to garden, tiller Horse. Ok so now a Horse for the plow, necessary, just in case! Gotta have a plow Horse of course! So far so good! You might like a Horse for a snowblower. You're going to need that, maybe but, just in case! Your herd of Horses can share the gas cans!

5 pointsHi to all of the Wheel Horse - Customers. But at first: If there is something wrong with my text, please forgive me. My school-english is many years old and i´m not using it untill tis time ! Some of Toro Mowers had cross my way in the last 30 years and lots of them are still on my own. The last one is an Groundsmaster 72 with an 4-cylinder Renault engine, but i had to fix many things on this machine. Today, It´s not running but i hope in the nearest future. My newest purchase is an WHEEL HORSE C-120 8 Speed in mediocre condition. With a kohler K301 engine, but its not the original. It runs, i work with, but after 2 or 3 ours the motor has damaged. Maybe the piston or something else. Theres no connection between the piston and the crankshaft. Now the motor had to be restored and the search from parts begins. Hopefully, maybe some of the dealers in USA can ship some parts to Europe ? Thats enough for the first introducion, i think. Best regards from the Westerwald, Peter

5 pointsWe've all seen the posts. "My tractor only clicks" Ammeter read discharge ect. Many times it's just a little dirt behind the ears and between the toes. Here's what happened to me today during my latest mowing session with EZRA. As I was finishing up I happened to look down at the ammeter. It was slightly discharging. didn't have time to work on it right away but later I started it up and the ammeter stayed on the discharge side. So I shut it off and got my trusty Chrysler 1986 Gold Tool Award multimeter out and checked the voltage of the battery. It read 12.5 V . Started it back up and had 14.7V. Looked at the ammeter again and now it's charging. All I did was probe the battery cables and the problem is gone. Let's look at the battery. Typical Garden Tractor variety dirt on the battery. Battery will come out for cleaning. Terminals show a slight bit of corrosion. Cleaned up the cables and cleaned the battery. You can see the battery cleaner working by the purple color. Testing the battery. This is 2 1/2 years old. 375 cranking amp battery still shows 375 Amps. all back together and still shows recharge after starting on the ammeter.

4 pointsStill amazing to think this tractor had been sitting as long as it had before I got it. Been mowing ever since, of course had to put work into it but nothing major. The grass it's able to cut enables me to mow on my schedule with one pass. Saving me so much time. It came with a plow and tiller but don't think I want to be using those. For a couple of reasons... One don't have that much of a need right now, and two don't want to put to much wear on a thirty-something year old trans. Mows like a champ want to keep it that way. Am I wrong?

4 pointsDoesn't take much corrosion to make a amp or volt gauge to screw up. I have a 1995 Chevy 4x4 that approx. every 18 months shows a dash volt gauge reading way down below 14v where it normally runs. When checked at the back of the alt. with fluke multimeter shows 14.3...... Battery cables tight and no evidence of corrosion. Remove positive cables ( I have double cables mated/sandwiched together on pos. terminal.) clean with wire brush and whatever gets the job done, reinstall and whadda-ya-know.... Gauge reads above 14v as it should...... Sure gets a guys blood pressure soaring to see a dash gauge reading wrong and at just the wrong time......

4 pointsI use the crimps without the outter plastic on them....solder in the metal tube a little acid,, ( you can buy them like that ) and shrink wrap them... DONE !!!!

4 pointsI have noticed a little rubbing on the deck, but only when I turn hard to the left. It's minor and at this point it hasn't effected the tire. It's mind over matter. If you don't mind it don't matter. From my first pic I did reset the rear hubs and cleanup and repaint the rear rims. Not bad for an everyday working tractor.

3 pointsWell, as the title states, I just added a 1984 C195 to the herd this evening. It has around 1100 hours on it but doesn't show it at all. I've never seen one in person until tonight and it is quite a bit larger than my C165 with the swept axle! Wow. I was a bit skeptical of this machine having a series one KT19 but after seeing it start, run, and cut some grass it sounded nice with no abnormal noises or smells; all deck spindles are quiet and the hydro works great, even the fender pan is in tact! It will need a new pto belt and PTO crank seal but that is something I can replace in a few hours and I don't consider that to be a big deal. My C165 seems little when parked beside it and I consider that one big compared to 95% of the new stuff on the lot these days! Here are a few pictures after I unloaded it from the trailer and there will be more pictures to follow as I clean her up! Never mind the spare trailer tire as my wheel chock, the parking brake needs some adjusting! Hopefully my dad doesn't get too upset with my growing collection in his garage!

I decided to pay attention and take another look. NOPE.... So the old man took a 3rd look and DUH..... THE WHEEL WEIGHT BOLTS OR STUDS STICKING OUT JUST WAITING PATIENTLY FOR A NEW VICTIM......

3 pointsYou will need a few things..... Rear Axle Bracket, Mid-mount Idler Pulley bracket, Drive belt, Rear Lift Cable ...at least The model years of your tractors 67 - 68 takes a tiller with different (shorter) front hitch on it. I'm sure you can make this work out, but there MAY be some limited mods needed....either to your tractors REAR receiver hitch or the front of this tiller. Here is the rear axle bracket to match to this tiller. This bracket should bolt to your tractor's rear axle to hook up the tiller. I have this bracket (PIC 2) for sale ..pic here. I just recently sold the last idler pulley bracket (pic 1) showN here too. You could make a different Mid-mount idler setup, as in the 3rd & 4th & 5TH pic. Here are also the 2 different tiller front hitches.....last 2 pics Older tillers / tractors used drive belt # 1599. Later model years drive belt is # 110265. You will PROBABLY need # 110265, but can't be sure.

3 pointsEver hear of, or try this stuff? Available at your local Napa dealer. It's that green stuff you see installers swabbing down tire beads with, before mounting tires on the rim. Also works great, when put it into a spray bottle, occasionally spray down all your rubber, really helps ward off the dry rot too.

2 pointsI was actually very keyed up as I had just finished the marathon wiring and initial build. Missing the tow valve is a rookie mistake but I feel a little better as it truly is out of site and out of mind with the 3 point hardware blocking it. It was actually a bear to turn it..... @ztnoo , the muffler is noticeably quieter. And the motor is 2 additional HP. Not sure it's worth another 180 over the pepper pots but I would likley but it again if it ever fails and it's available. Truth is my decks are louder than my tractors:-) i know. Rebuilding decks is next up on project lists.....then sickle bar and then a Rototiller refresh....I need more vacations. Lol

2 pointsCouple things. If the filter is really old it could be clogged but that is very rare. If the bypass valve is sticking that will cause extremely high oil pressure. Below is from a rebuild article I did a few years ago. Applies to removing and replacing the bypass valve and spring. The oil bypass valve and spring are what regulates the oil pressure. The bolt in the first pic is removed and the spring will typically fall out after you turn the block upside down. Sometimes the bypass valve will come out with it, sometimes not. Not practical with engine still installed in machine. See next part.If not use a small magnetic pickup tool or spray some carb cleaner down the hole to breakup the oil that is holding it in place. If using compressed air to launch it out of the block, oil filter adapter must be removed, and you don't put a rag over the opening to catch it and hours later it's still hiding someplace you will never find it.....Part number is 120-0398.The valves hold up well but it's always a good idea to replace the spring, part number 120-0140 when rebuilding.When putting it back in, the "flat" end goes in first. The smaller rounded end on the top is what keeps the spring centered. Oil up the valve before installing it, drop it in the hole and then put the spring in. The copper washer can be reused if annealed. Heat it up cherry red and drop it into some water. What? You lost the bolt too? It's a 3/8-24 X 7/8. The length is what sets the oil pressure. Torque it to 10 foot pounds. Don't over tighten or you risk cracking the block!

2 pointsSelling my 856... Runs great with no smoke or noises(was rebuilt about 4 years ago) the oil pan gasket leaks just a drop after you run it awhile but I have the full engine gasket kit new. The ags I the rear are like new and the tri bars on the front are brand new.. The battery is weak so would need a new one. I run ethanol free gas in it. All gears work great. 2 pointsThanks and I kind of wanted to try them out myself but still would want to baby it. When I first mowed I actually set the throttle way below max RPMs and it still cut heavy grass with no problem. Had some vision of it blowing balance gears because of it sitting for so long. Now no worries. I'll try and get some pictures but every time I see it now it's just to mow... no real fan fare and I know that it can clean up nice.

2 pointsCents the hitch is on the plow, 175 is a good price for the plow. Those decks are going for $250-$300 around here. $350 is good for the tiller, and the blower depends on if a big snowstorm just hit!

2 pointsQuestion for you @Retired Sparky, I'm looking at a 312-A that has the smaller 6" wheels on the front. I also have a number of 8" spares in my inventory. Would putting 8" wheels on the front cause any problems with mower deck height or is there enough wiggle room that it would accommodate the extra height? I actually did that on an older 8hp 4sp years ago with no ill effects, but in that case I also increased the rear wheel size. The larger wheels just look so much better IMO.
