Well I keep telling myself I'm not buying anymore as I'm trying to get ready to move hopefully in July... Well I found one I'm dying to have... Soo... I sweet talked my wife(even tho she did tell me when I found a good deal of a nice horse I could buy it) so that is my plan for tomorrow after I get my new wheels n tires mounted on my truck, I'm headed over 2 hours away to look at and hopefully buy another red horse.. Can't wait! Will post pics tomorrow!!! O me and my son got the ranger out yesterday after the lawn got mowed.. Then later me and my daughter took all the wheels off my wife's A-81 to scrub them up for Mother's Day present! It's a family hobby around my house!

So we begin the wonderful journey of moving to a new house tomorrow. Never had give it much thought until tonight but I need to build a bigger trailer...was able to load the 701 and the Commando but there wasn't quite enough room to get the 1277 on there...I probably could have squeezed them all on if I took the mower deck off of mine but that's more trouble than it's worth lol guess I need to spend some time behind my welding hood in the shop

I just put a Tecumseh recoil and cup on my RJ restore Jeff. There are several different recoil cups and recoil starters that will work on the RJ with a Kohler motor. The key issue is the cup has to match the starter. The cup on yours in the first photo is a cup designed just for a rope pull setup. The Kohlers on the RJ's had Schnacke recoils, Fairbanks Morse, Kohler and Tecumseh type recoils from all that I have seen.

I had to replace the spindles on my b80 36" rd deck.the two on the outside were not bad but the middle one with the double pully would not budge.i put a steering wheel pully on it ,soaked it with penetrating oil for 2 days and nothing.heated it with torch it would not move .so I decided to try to cut it off.hack saw wouldn't fit so if I can't cut it without cutting the deck I had to think of a way to GITTER DONE .So what would Larry the Cable guy do.Then I got an apiffiney let it cut its self. This worked like a charm and only took about 5 minutes of cutting. After cutting it off I put it on my work bench and beat it out. And I mean I had to beat on it I did save the pully and reassembled it . Ok now and works great. All I used was a 3/8 16 x 2" stud that screwed into the spindle . a 3/8 drill and a new hack saw blade.hope this helps someone.

5-8-1963 Sean Connery stars in his first Bond movie, Dr. No On this day in 1963, with the release of Dr. No, moviegoers get their first look–down the barrel of a gun–at the super-spy James Bond (codename: 007), the immortal character created by Ian Fleming in his now-famous series of novels and portrayed onscreen by the relatively unknown Scottish actor Sean Connery. Connery had acted in repertory theater and television and scored some bit parts in films before landing his first significant role, opposite Lana Turner in Another Time, Another Place (1958). Bigger roles followed, notably in Tarzan’s Greatest Adventure (1959). Harold Saltzman and Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, the producers ofDr. No, had other actors in mind to play Bond, including Cary Grant and James Mason; Fleming himself preferred another leading candidate, David Niven. After winning the role, however, Connery swiftly made it his own. Costarring Ursula Andress, Joseph Wiseman and Jack Lord, Dr. No sends Bond, a British Secret Service agent, to Jamaica to investigate the murders of a fellow agent and his secretary. There, he is forced to confront the villainous Chinese scientist Dr. No (Wiseman) with the help of a bikini-clad seashell collector, Honey Ryder (Andress) and a CIA agent (Lord). Dr. No established many signature elements of the Bond film series, including its distinctive theme song, fast-paced action sequences, sexy “Bond girls”–both good and bad, Bond’s fondness for vodka martinis “shaken, not stirred” and his introduction of himself as “Bond. James Bond.” Connery went on to appear in six more Bond films, including From Russia With Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967),Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and (after a 10-year hiatus) Never Say Never Again(1983). The title of the last film, an “unofficial” remake of Thunderball, was a self-mocking reference to Connery’s past statements that he had finished with the Bond franchise. Though he was a major box-office attraction after the overwhelming success of Goldfinger, Connery had reportedly already tired of playing Bond by the time he made Thunderball (1965).

Be advised, you'll need the short tecky cup... for a Tecumseh recoil to bolt up to your Kohlers tins. Multiple recoil assemblies will work on a K-90/91, and each lends their own unique looks to the engine too. Schnacke, Fairbanks Morse, Tecumseh, and of course Kohler...all use different cups, because each has a different arrangement of pawls that engage said cups. For example...a K-90 with the Tecumseh recoil... ...K-90 with the Fairbanks recoil... ...K-90 with the Schnacke recoil.

I was given this one page safety sheet that was given to tractor buyers in the 1960's (came from a pile of old Wheel Horse dealer manuals and papers) and thought it should be of interest to the Red Square Wheel Horse Forum Members. I sent to Garry to post in the Wheel Horse Manuals area of this site.

Great page Lane. You would think that those stupid people are already dead....but they are still out there.

This is my K91T ,and it looks like it had a recoil on it at some point . My ? Is is there a recoil that fits this cup , or should I just use a techy cup and coil ?
  13. 3 points
You'll do better without the duals. The tires will be wider than the path you're cutting. The snow will bog you right down.

Also, good to see our man Russ there... back in the saddle again.

It's that age old problem. If you have more room in the garage/shed/barn, you'd have more toys. If you have a way to get bigger/more toys home, you'd have bigger/more toys. Best to have many friends that all have that ONE tool or toy that you need to borrow, and plenty of currency, in the form or beer or labor to exchange!

Hope the hood latch is in good shape! Driving around with that ornament on the hood, a quick panic stop because someone steps out in front of you! A guy could get an anvil down his shorts!

I don't know what it is , but whenever a child see's one of my little horses , there eyes light up , a big smile , then the question can I set on it . Oh wait that's me . But seriously I think it's one of my favorite parts of owning these .

As evidenced by the ags shown here.

Thanks! That looks like it's it. It mounts the way the one that came with it but maybe retrofit? My son is almost done restoring his RJ. Have everything but exhaust shield.

I picked up a belt measurer from mfgsupply.com It was the one that looks like a yardstick with a sliding 1/2 "pulley". Measures actual length and also tells you the "A" and "B" size as well. Cost about $30, which considering how often I have used it since I bought it, has been well worth it
  22. 3 points
I'm asking because if you look at @jsp_333 's thread (RJ got a new look ) . If you look behind his recoil it looks like it could be the same cup . My other rope start is cast aluminum . Here's a pic

The idiot across from me mows with a cheap green and yellow tractor using one hand. The other hand holds the baby or the small toddler. Sometimes the toddler is in the tiny trailer while he holds the baby. 100% of his mowing is done this way. I don't know how to report this, the various agencies don't seem to have a way to enforce this till after the Darwin Awards are handed out.

I need to do something with the engine shrouds on the rj and am really backed into a corner because the they are bright green and just look ridiculous. I can't paint them even in the correct red because - as you'll see in the photos - the rest of the tractor has a dated look. So I just strip off the paint and get a really unique result... Jury is still out but unless anyone has a technique that can match the look of a 60 year old paint job that is how she's gonna stay.

Well, Took a pile of "EXTRAS" off it and I think looks a lot better. A couple turns of the screwdriver and even the tecky is runnin' ok. Not really sure why hood was raised 4 1/2 "................everything clears the engine ok .its tight, but not really all that bad. I would like to think there was a reason people do things...but......what a pile of washer's nuts and spacers I have left!
  30. 2 points
Yes, a "4L-890 will be 89" OD and can be replaced by an "A87" and a 5L-890 is the same as a "B87". Don't ask me why or who came up with that idea. Lots of manufacturers have "propitiatory" belt sizes like 89 1/2" so that you feel obligated to buy their overpriced belt; just go to the next smaller whole number regular belt and you will be fine.

That #2274 on the quadrant is the WH part number. The engine numbers help a little. the #46219A is the spec number for the K241AS Kohler that was only used in the 1045, 1055 and 1075 horses. It is starting to look like a 1045. This manual for the 1045 from 1964 tells how to adjust your belt guard to stop the grinding. Here is the link. For the number on your casting... This one has a tag "K11%0. It works like this...K is the month (and you skip the letter "I"...because it looks like a 1). So "K" = 10th month...October. 11 is the day of that month. The 0 is 1960. So K11%0 = October 11, 1960. I think that the only thing you could draw from this is...this case did not come with a 1958/9 RJ, but it could have come on a 1961 Suburban.

Not typical The belt guard must be installed. You will need to inspect why the belt is continuing to turn when the pedal is pushed. The belt needs to stop spinning when changing gears or they will grind and the RPM of the engine shouldn't matter. Search "grinding gears" on here and you should find some solutions

Dells I try to get my kids doing something with the horses as much as possible! Glad to hear I'm not the only getting the younger gen enjoying the horses! And thanks Craig it was her idea to work on the horses as it was just me and her home together.. She loves it and always tells me she does!

I knew that was coming! I know it would Glenn, I asked for more photos. He has a couple, but it is hard to truly the tell the condition because of the distance and they used an iPhone and have the phone vertical so it looks like you are looking through a key hole. So today he is supposed to be sending me photos of the 161 up close and I also asked for photos of the engine area. RCIII

I use a CLOTH base measuring tape that a seamstress or tailor might use to size your up for a suit. Clamp it to the belt with a little alligator clip and draw it along the belt OD.

Well, it was a little damp this morning but there was a decent turnout for what the weather was. Only snapped a couple of pics Here's Sparky (Mike) all proud of a new hood ornament. We all told him it was a little big and not original but that didn't stop him! Saltywright (Russ) in the background And then we picked up a couple K181s and some skins for matching hood ornaments This I just thought was cool

Last year we cut down a huge White Pine in the back yard and had the stump ground out. Well we have some sun back there now, so we have a little room for a Victory Garden again. The problem was, it is not a huge space, and is hard to maneuver garden tractors around with in the confines, but I wanted to give it a shot. With the help of a mold board plow, disk, and a blade, we got the ground leveled out and ready for some grass seed and some garden stuff. I should have taken more pictures. This picture is right after the stump grinding. This is about 80% wood chips that needed to get raked out...and this is last year. So...today was the day... Took the snow blower off of the 876 and put the mower deck on. I left the snow blade on the 702. The 857 became the do everything experiment. I used the mold board plow to break things up...that worked great. I then used the disk to further break the soil down. A little raking and the lawn and garden is ready for planting.

Sad part is that it isn't Red Square folks you have to worry about, but rather those who troll the net looking for any excuse to take something that isn't theirs. I've often thought the same thing about American Pickers. I love the show, but wouldn't want everyone knowing what I have!

I would tend to agree too Sometimes though, I'll collect the tiny amounts of unused oil in a single bottle and use it as chain oil in my chain saw....call me weird. just my 2 cents.... Terry

Evening Herd: It's been a while since I have had time to "graze" in the pastures here. Been so busy with the opening of the Hilton and now we are also partnering with the Convention Center. Anyone in the Cleveland area looking for a career and you have knowledge in audio/video, I sure could use your help! Anyway, I ran across a very clean(Rob clean) C-161 Automatic with a 42" rear discharge, front blade, chains, extra belts and misc. parts. I am fairly good at knowing what later models are worth, but the later ones I have yet to even come close on the "appropriate" values. Realistically what is something like this worth? RCIII
