16 pointsReally got to get the K91 finished up, she's getting a little closer!! Happy with the tire selection....and I think the color of the wheels and seat is at least close to correct.

7 pointsJust wanted to say thanks for this site and especially to SOI and rmaynard - even though I didn't have to ask for them to assist directly, reading through old posts walked me through everything I needed to do. Two weekends ago I went to put the mowing deck on, turned the key and nothing. No dash lights, no clicks or other noises, nada. And it had just ran fine when I moved it into the garage. Did a few quick checks on the battery (ok), ground wire (ok), key switch (nothing), and fuses with the multi-meter (which showed no power at the fuses with the key turned on) then figured I was going to have to dig deeper. Fuse box and wires going into it looked ok at first - later on when I took it off there was some melting in one of the wire locations. A check of the 9 pin connector showed what I think was the main issue, 2 of the wires were burnt out in the sockets. So I ordered a new connector from rmaynard (great transaction) bought fuses and went to work - a few hours later I had things connected back up, and it fired right up. Nothing like that feeling! Thanks again Red Square!! Brice

7 pointsOk, this one has gone off track enough. To all, RedSquare does NOT advocate removing or tampering with safety equipment which is installed on your machine, and we do not advocate harming children.

6 pointsI picked up this Yanmar 7hp Diesel off of Craigslist for $400 a few years ago and put it in a Lawn Ranger. It only had a few minutes off actual run time when I got it. Way to much power for the tractor but sure is a blast to drive around.
-
6 pointsSounds like making that bend in the rod may have made it too short & now the governor can't close the carburetor all the way to idle position. To confirm this theory, remove the linkage and try holding the throttle closed against the idle screw. If it idles then you will need to replace the linkage or make a new one to be the correct length.

4 pointsLast year we cut down a huge White Pine in the back yard and had the stump ground out. Well we have some sun back there now, so we have a little room for a Victory Garden again. The problem was, it is not a huge space, and is hard to maneuver garden tractors around with in the confines, but I wanted to give it a shot. With the help of a mold board plow, disk, and a blade, we got the ground leveled out and ready for some grass seed and some garden stuff. I should have taken more pictures. This picture is right after the stump grinding. This is about 80% wood chips that needed to get raked out...and this is last year. So...today was the day... Took the snow blower off of the 876 and put the mower deck on. I left the snow blade on the 702. The 857 became the do everything experiment. I used the mold board plow to break things up...that worked great. I then used the disk to further break the soil down. A little raking and the lawn and garden is ready for planting.

4 pointsConsidering the advancements in lubricant technology that have taken place over the half century since my s were built, I am sure the mixture will be superior to what they had coming out of the factory.
-
4 pointsAwesome...that's what this site is all about! And those two members you mentioned are first class members in my book! Mike.....

4 pointsReality is now fake, Men are Women, Women are Men, People who don't work make more than people who do, Pets have rights, Corporations are human, Robots look like humans, What is illegal and bad for us in the long term is now a good thing, Free Speech is a right unless you speak positively about the Constitution, Religion, Marriage, or conservative values, then you're a sexist, racist, homophobe, whatever.... Our reality is as unreal as it can get. This world is upside down. I'm only in my 40's and in the last couple years I've come to understand what my 90 year old grandma told me a few years ago. "I've seen enough in this world and am ready to leave." At the time, I thought she was crazy for saying it, now I understand it. Not that I'm ready to give up, but I do understand her point of view.

4 pointsA previous Green tractor that I owned had a switch that killed the blades when backing up as well as the engine if your butt left the seat. Took about 5 minutes to track both switches and eliminate. Nothing worse than restarting the pto every time you need to back up or the damn engine shutting off if you lean too far over or need to leave the seat to do something. Nothing wrong with people losing a digit or running over their kids. It's called natural selection. We need more of it these days.

3 pointsLots of posts on that, remove the "Dogpoint screw" that holds the shift lever in place and remove the shift lever. Take a screw driver and line up the forks, put the shift lever back in and adjust the dogpoint.

3 pointsFor a second there I was in complete agreement. I was even headed for the freezer. Then realized you wrote itch cream. Some weird reason I thought you wanted ice cream. Oh well. Can't let this pass without dealing with it. Guess I'll grab a bowl and cure this itch....well, uh...Urge:-)

3 pointsI always drain my oil containers into a bigger container. I don't mix weights. Always use straight 30 wt in the and 10 w 30 in the El Camino.
-
3 pointsI wouldn't be afraid of mixing those together. If you have something that burns a little oil that's what I would use it for .Someone makes a rack that you put your jugs on upside down to let them empty fully into another jug so you use every bit of oil.
-
3 pointsSteve, you are a brave man. I guarantee you I would have a black eye if I were bold enough to suggest that!
-
3 pointsThanks guys. Actually, I had my wife standing on the disk platform for the weight. She was hanging on my shoulders...I was only going in 1st gear for about 10 feet.

3 pointsI mow in reverse with my push mower LOL, but it simply does not cut as well. I'm sure most do not go as fast in reverse, but I am sure there was a lawsuit involved in this "safety feature".
-
3 pointsNo, it's called an unfortunate or even tragic accident. Don't get me wrong folks. I don't advocate bypassing safety devices. They do have their purpose and do prevent accidents. If you are considering removing them you need to carefully weigh your situation and understand the ramifications of doing so. My older brother has a defib and a pacemaker planted in him and has a 312-8 that he mows with. He's open about not caring for the safety devices but his wife made it very clear that he wasn't going to bypass them. Considering his health issues I stand by her. Then you must consider children. All of us old timers on this forum lived through many years of no safety devices. But I, as well as most of the rest of you have seen accidents that occurred that may have been prevented on a modern machine. Nuff said.

2 pointsLast year after the WheelHorse Collectors club show in PA the club made the announcement that "Customs" would be the feature tractor for the 2016 show. Man was I bummed that I had sold the Rat Grenade. First thought was to build a copy of it or to buy it back. I really hate to duplicate some projects and ruin their originality though sometimes it happens. After some thought and a suggestion by my friend Terese Emmory LaPree- I formed a new plan. At first the suggestion didn't... interest me but the following day it sparked an idea. So thanks Terese!!! This idea of a project rolled around for a couple months and I bounced it off a couple friends and they seemed to like it so I decided it had merit. I have to give some serious credit to Kevin Townsend for his help in some of the chassis design. No doubt after a couple failures into the project he was most likely getting sick of my texts for help! He added his ideas to mine for the creation of this project so my Thanks goes out to him as well! Also Thanks to Michael Biser for supplying a custom built 8-speed that gave us some flexibility in the width of the tractor. Also Thanks to Lonny Eskridge for the D-series pcs involved. This is one of 3 custom projects that we will be bringing to PA in June. So I guess here it goes- Fellow WH enthusiasts here is what has been dubbed as D-Rod Its specs are as follows- 16hp Onan Performer, Biser WH 8-spd, 4 gpm pump, power steering, hyd 3 pt hitch,16in front rubber ,17 in rear rubber on BlackRock wheels. Chassis, body and driveline all 100% handmade with exception of the D-series grille shell and front inverted axle. D-Rod can also do a couple tricks-but I will show them in another post later

2 pointsI found this at a yard sale today. Raider 10 early 70's with Techumseh engine. It starts and runs pretty well, only has 1 speed forward, none reverse. Not sure what that is, the gear lever will not go into any other gears. I removed the pick up bed today and I am going to put the fenders and seat back on. Just a clean up for now. I'd like to find a mower deck for it, but would also need the pulleys. I have a donor transmission fro a 702. I may also use a few other 702 parts to help out. Looks like it will fit, but will have to see. On part missing is the seat latch. I'll need to find one of them. The lights and cigar lighter work too. I got it from the family of the original owner, he used it to tend his garden. I like the weights too. jb4249 Ted

2 pointsI'm sure like me, many of you have oil bottles with just a bit left that you can't toss out. So is there any harm in mixing differant brands or weights of oil? Mike....
-
2 pointsIf it has a nice and quiet deck and smokes a little I wouldn't be afraid to give 300$ for it. I've been using a commando 8 that smokes on start up and under heavy load for 8years with no problems just change spark plugs alittle more often .

2 pointsPlenty to do, just hate to see orphans looking at me with such sad eyes. I guess these things have been a little bit of soul support with the year I've been through. At least it's not like I'm eyeing purses or something else useless like a lot of our other halves do! Guy's gotta have some therapy somehow! Dad is going to have a knee replacement next month and I'll be staying with him, so my son wants me to attempt to revive Dad's Ford LGT while we're there. Anything that follows me home will have to be put up for future tinkering. Anybody know of a good horse-aholics addiction group? Man these bugs bite hard. Gonna need some serious itch cream!!!

2 pointsDon't forget to inspect the mule drive pulleys as well. They get noisey before they go South.
-
2 pointsYou can weld a tab on the shaft. The broken piece on mine was in the oil pan. I got one in without taking it apart. It took some time to figure the puzzle out and LOTS of curse words but it went! One of those little springy pick up grabber things really helped
-
2 pointsI would take the deck off and remove the deck belt so you can check spin each spindle individually. Look for bearing noise. tight spots, and excess clearance. Also check for a loose or bent blade or a loose pulley. Check the tensioner pulley bearings. And like Dick said, look for a spindle broken loose from the deck. I would do a lot of investigating before I would invest $400 in three new spindles. Good Luck.

2 points5-6-1994 English Channel tunnel opens In a ceremony presided over by England’s Queen Elizabeth II and French President Francois Mitterand, a rail tunnel under the English Channel was officially opened, connecting Britain and the European mainland for the first time since the Ice Age. The channel tunnel, or “Chunnel,” connects Folkstone, England, with Sangatte, France, 31 miles away. The Chunnel cut travel time between England and France to a swift 35 minutes and eventually between London and Paristo two-and-a-half hours. As the world’s longest undersea tunnel, the Chunnel runs under water for 23 miles, with an average depth of 150 feet below the seabed. Each day, about 30,000 people, 6,000 cars and 3,500 trucks journey through the Chunnel on passenger, shuttle and freight trains. Millions of tons of earth were moved to build the two rail tunnels–one for northbound and one for southbound traffic–and one service tunnel. Fifteen thousandpeople were employed at the peak of construction. Ten people were killed during construction. Napoleon’s engineer, Albert Mathieu, planned the first tunnel under the English Channel in 1802, envisioning an underground passage with ventilation chimneys that would stretch above the waves. In 1880, the first real attempt was made by Colonel Beaumont, who bore a tunnel more than a mile long before abandoning the project. Other efforts followed in the 20th century, but none on the scale of the tunnels begun in June 1988. The Chunnel’s $16 billion cost was roughly twice the original estimate, and completion was a year behind schedule. One year into service, Eurotunnel announced a huge loss, one of the biggest in United Kingdom corporate history at the time. A scheme in which banks agreed to swap billions of pounds worth of loans for shares saved the tunnel from going under and it showed its first net profit in 1999. Freight traffic was suspended for six months after a fire broke out on a lorry in the tunnel in November 1996. Nobody was seriously hurt in the incident. In 1996, the American Society of Civil Engineers identified the tunnel as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

2 pointsYes, all low amperage 12 volts goes through the ammeter. See diagram below: And be sure that the ignition switch that you got is for battery ignition and not magneto. Magneto will have and M lug on the back. Looking at the wiring diagram, the ignition does not go through any safety switch.

2 pointsI'm sorry for your brother's unfortunate medical issues and yes any injury by any machine could be tragic, but it's still natural selection. Teach your children not to chase your lawnmower and to stay away when it is operating. Turn off your deck before leaving your tractor. Don't try to stop spinning mower blades with your hands or feet. Don't put your face in front of a deck shoot while it's running. Common sense and attentiveness are something that current society is losing every day because people believe they are protected by everything. No one thinks for themselves anymore, but that's a different subject. For those that feel more safe being protected by "safety features" good for them. I choose freedom. Bottom line is those "safety features" are there because of lawyers, not the manufacturer's good will.

2 pointsGeez Richie, you ruined it. I've been waiting all day to post that I made a bacon and egg sandwich this morning and celebrated the day with a dab of mayo on it.

2 pointsI do almost everything backwards, including falling down.....Both my 88 and 95 520H could care less if they are going forward or backward with the mower deck pto engaged. I do turn around in the seat and look behind me before I back up. Maybe the next mod. will be adding rear view mirrors however. You ever seen an old man back out of his driveway? We don't or can't turn our heads around like an owl any more....
-
2 pointsAs promised. The Lawn Ranger is in the middle and my 854 is closest to the door. Also pictured is the K90 engine that I intended on using on the RJ, still might if I can get it to run.

2 pointsI have heard about the chips doing that, but I needed to get the yard squared away (keep the wife happy). I have been turning and raking the chips now for almost a year. It is kind of going to be a raised bed thingy...so I hope for some success this year. Even thought the space is cramped for garden tractor attachments, I managed to turn the dirt with the plow and disk it up...I ended up raking some more wood chips out. She is going to plant tomatoes and a few other things no matter what I say...and this fall...I will get to say I told you so. That and a dime...well you know...so I have that going for me. At least I got to try some attachments, that I would not have been able to try. It was some great horse time...can't wait to plow it all under this fall.

2 pointsI'll be watching this thread closely...I've had the same problem... You would thing the motor city would have them all over the place but we don't seem too...If I had a buck for every "...not worth it - just put a HF Predator in it..." comment I would be retired... The lack of such shops is another sad commentary on our throw away approach to everything...
