SWEET MOTHER OF PEARL.....I found it Here's what the guy has in the listing You won't see this in many Craigslist ads, maybe ever. This is one of the most rare Wheel Horse tractors ever made. Estimates are that around 600 were ever made, and only 25 or so are known to exist in original condition. This is one of them. This has the 8HP Wisconsin AEN engine and what I believe is a Ford Model A transmission (or something very, very similar to it), with one Reverse and three forward gears. This item will be on display at a downsizing sale this weekend, Friday and Saturday April 29th and 30th at 67 Stull Run Ln, Grottoes, VA. You may feel free to make offers, but this price is based on rarity and condition so low ball offers will be quickly rejected Check out the horses this dude has in the background...some nice round hoods it appears.... Is this guy a member here??? ...if not we need to recruit him (I'll even pay for his supporter status for some seat time) and get him to bring his harem to the Big Show!!!

So I wanted a Wheel Horse for a while, then I got one. One is good right? Well one soon turned into four. I'm fine, only gonna collect made be fore 1968, I have control of this. Then I found this tractor and had to have it. This tractor thing is not an addiction, is it? What I brought home is a McLean Husky made in Indianapolis some time around the 50's or 60's. Not sure on the year, there is not a lot of info on these machines. I did read that McLean was acquired by Wheel Horse, but I don't know if this info is accurate or not. This thing is in really bad shape and has been altered by a previous owner. I'm really hoping that I can find enough info to get this thing back in shape. I'm thinking this project will quite an challenge. Below is the transmission. From what I've read it should be belt drive to the transmission, the trans consists of a selector for different chain drives 2 speeds or a reverse gear set to a chain drive. Then belt drive on each side back to a sprocket then finally chain drive to each rear wheel. This really doesn't leave a differential for the drive wheels, to accomplish that they ran rods from the steering to the tension pulleys for the post transmission belts to loosen the belt on the inside of the turn. Complicated but sounds like it would work, hopefully I can make it work. I'll start a new thread on the restoration once I get started on it. If any one has any info or pics of one of these, I would be extremely grateful!

Just an FYI. There is a nice '55-56 WH Senior for sale on the Richmond, VA Craigslist (tractor is actually in Harrisonburg). It's nice but not cheap, $5.5k. Check it out when you get a chance (I know we're not allowed to post CL links in the forum).

25hp 4000rpm governed modified class. 7 inch front pulley, 8.1 mph. Stock rear end, 56 hp. Kohler Command. This was a nice start to the year. Was getting sick of playing with different belts and pulleys. I think I got it now. VideoEditor1 (1).3gp

Well, for me, hopefully I'm providing a few useful hints. I've already posted my vehicle pics.......you definitely aren't going to miss or confuse what I will be driving. My wife volunteers a lot at the local hospital and goes to lots of meetings, seminars, conferences, etc. So she has the clear plastic name tag thingies with safety pin clasps for name cards. This afternoon, I created my own......complete with RS user name, given legal name, and city of residence.....which I will be wearing, btw. If someone can't figure out who I am with these clues, I'll have to totally recalibrate my approach.

4-29-1986 Roger Clemens strikes out 20 batters in single game On April 29, 1986, in a game against the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park, Roger Clemens of the Boston Red Sox becomes the first pitcher in Major League Baseball to strike out 20 batters in a nine-inning game. Ten years later, Clemens repeats the feat, the only player in baseball history to do so. Clemens was drafted in 1983 by the Red Sox as the 19th pick overall and made his debut with the team on May 15, 1984. Two years later, on April 29, the 23-year-old Clemens broke St. Louis Cardinal Steve Carlton’s record of 19 strikeouts in a nine-inning game, which was set in 1969 and duplicated by the Mets’ Tom Seaver in 1970 and the California Angels’ Nolan Ryan in 1974. In 1962, the Washington Senators’ Tom Cheney had 21 strikeouts in 16 innings. Kerry Wood and Randy Johnson each recorded 20-strikeout games after Clemens; however, the “Rocket” as Clemens is known, is the only pitcher in the history of baseball to do so twice. Clemens struck out 20 batters for a second time while pitching for the Red Sox on September 18, 1996, in a game against the Detroit Tigers at Tiger Stadium. He was so fond of striking out batters, he gave each of his four children names that started with the letter K, the symbol for strikeout. Clemens spent 13 seasons with the Red Sox, during which time he won three Cy Young awards, an annual honor given to the best pitcher in the Major League. He then pitched two seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays and took home the Cy Young award twice more while leading the league both seasons in strikeouts, ERA and wins. Clemens joined the New York Yankees in 1999 and won his first World Series that season. On June 14, 2003, while playing for the Yankees in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals, he recorded his 300th win and 4,000th career strikeout. Clemens was the 21st pitcher in the history of the majors to become a 300-game victor and just the third pitcher (after Steve Carlton and Nolan Ryan) in baseball to rack up 4,000 strikeouts.

Just searched for your thread and think I might try to do just that...for no more than that little fan costs it's worth a try. Thanks

That looks very similar to the one on GT14 Hydro's. If you can't locate one, I posted a thread on how to duplicate one using a similar fan from McMaster Carr. Under GT14 hydro fan. Probably could use same fan with slight mod.

Yep, that was when I was trying to put a name on it. Made an agreement shortly there after and finally took the time to pick it up this week.

That's a problem with these swap meets and get togethers. Unless you've been around for a while, you don't know who is who when you end up in the same place. I recognize a few guys, but not many. We all need tattooed to our foreheads with our user names. My son and I will be there about 9am till whenever. Red GMC Sierra crew cab. We'll be dressed warm. I'm built like you minus the pony tail. Best I can say from going last year, as well as Scott's meet and greet last fall, is that it's a group of good friendly people, just ask them if they are on Redsquare and you'll be having introductions in no time. Steve

Since I've never been to the meet at Mentone, or any Wheel Horse gathering for that matter, I have no personal acquaintance or introduction to anyone from here at RS who will be in attendance. For that reason, I'd like to describe myself. I assure you I won't be dressed in formal wear like Lane. I don't have a pic of myself readily at hand, but I'm 6'4" in height, about 275 lbs, and have a pony tail. I'll be in jeans most likely with either a navy blue hooded sweatshirt, Carhartt jacket, or if it's precipitating enough, perhaps a yellow rain slicker jacket. If you can't identify me by this description, look for the vehicle below. It's a beige '85 Chevy Caprice Estate Wagon. I'm sure it will be the only thing like it at Mentone. Only 66,500 miles on her. My name is Steve (ztnoo) and I'm from Gas City. Hope to meet lots of you Wheel Horse fanatics.

Thanks red ranger. I think I found a couple campgrounds not too far from Mentone It's an enclosed equipment trailer that I camp in. I like the word Michiganian but it's awfully long so I guess I prefer Michigander

Ahhh ... TRuck/cAMPER. I get it. "Michigandy"? LOL

You always start with a compression check. If the patient has a bad heart, there is no use in doing exterior things till that surgery is complete.

I don't have a D, but I can relate a small story about those vintage Onans. In 2004, Florida got hit by three hurricanes. Charley, Frances and Jeanne. I had recently completed a Class C RV restoration with a 1976 twin cylinder Onan generator onboard. The generator got an oil change and new plugs during the restoration if I recall. Who knows how many hours were on the meter of the engine itself. Long story short, my house had an additional 5 people besides my wife and myself during the hurricanes. All told we were out of utility power for two weeks. The Onan ran 24/7 for two weeks. I shut it down once to change the oil, crossing my fingers that it would relight after the oil change. It did. A Briggs engine box store portable generator I had at the time blew its rectifier diodes after about 10 hours if I recall. Needless to say, I hold the twin cylinder Onan engines and generators in high regard.

So it's a 5 + hour drive for me from northern Michigan. But I'm adding a trip down to Indianapolis Friday night to pick up some Wheel Horse stuff so that will add another 6 hours of driving before I reach Mentone. Can't wait. See you there Steve.

It's probably down in the hood , that's where I found my 58 . I never seen my son so scared , he thought for sure we're going to get carjacked . If you could have seen his face . Priceless

Well, today was weld the seats day. Looks like it's gonna overlap into tomorrow too!! The way this will be transported, (which is a closely guarded secret!) requires that it be able to be a completely flat deck, so all of the seats are made to be removable easily via some pins. Adds some work, but no other way to do it, without buying a 12 foot longer hauler!! That ain't gonna happen!!! ps ... thanks for all the nice comments. It means a lot to me that you guys like this, as I have a great respect for this "crowd"!!!

Thanks Jim Yep, as Nigel says.. Left to right.. Diff lock, gears (4 forward 1 reverse), high/low ratios and finally PTO.. There is also a handbrake lever low down on the left side. I'm quite clean now Jim, WN has a bit less mud on her too With not much left to do on HG apart from fitting a fuel tap and decals we decided to get her off the bench and out into the sun for a good look.. Me likes

Thanks for the flowers guys!!! Some day, I'm gonna sit down and count the number of pieces in this trailer. The welder is getting tired of it!!! You know your in a pile of crap when you have to go to the second shelf of clamps!!! LOL All the clamps in this pic are for the backrest ... thats it!!

I always just unhook both cables on battery and keep my ground as close as possible to where I'm working with no ill effects...however if it is feasible I would always recommend removing the part before welding

Thanks Derek I had not found this sight. Thanks guys, this site has the most pics of one of these that I have found. Hopefully my eyeball micrometer is calibrated close enough to get the pulleys and sprockets all the right size from the pictures. A P.O. removed the post transmission belt drives and put in a live axle in the rear. I want to put it back to its original design. I for see a lot of fab and machine time being put into this one. My largest concerns are finding new gears for the reverse shaft and getting the shift rail to operate properly.

Okay.. I'll go this route. I can do a good job with this routine. Welding in patches requires me to open my wallet---I don't have a mig welder or the skills. Deck is not in danger of collapsing or failing. Thanks Tony

It's a much better morning. For the first time in a week I woke up with an appetite. Had a good breakfast and feeling much much better. Need to get in the shop and get caught up on several projects. Got to get ready for the show. Thank you all for your words of encouragement and prayers. Lost 8 lbs in a week but think I will gain it back today.

I tried a fast and dirty solution I screwed a bolt into one of the flange mount threaded holes on the engine. I started the engine and now it shifts fine. Now before people start telling me the bolt is a bad idea, I agree it is not a a permanent solution. But as a test it is a good idea, I have already removed it. i will bend up some loops of 1/4" bar like those shown earlier. With confidence they will work. Thank you every one.

Deck support greased underneath and top of deck greased where support contacts it to help prevent rust between these. Spindles and deck support installed. Spindles greased and pulleys installed. Belt tension assembly installed. Belt installed. Left hand guard installed and right hand guard bracket installed. The rest of the brackets will be installed in a few days.

Yesterday was spray day! Yep the panels finally got their nice smooth shiny top coats... As we didn't have the correct thinners and the nearest place to get some is quite a long drive away we used petrol.. I think they came out alright The dyno-start went two tone.. To add a bit of detail and class...... Class on something called Horse Gut?? Nigel dug out his Beugler pin striping tool.. And that chaps is where were up to... Tomorrow we can start carefully bolting it all back together
