13 pointsA couple weeks ago,a member here inquired about the value of a C-141 8 speed. He lives about 20 minutes away so I made him an offer.I went Thursday afternoon and got it.He's a real nice guy. It's been in his family since new.It came with a decent 42 in.SD deck, owners manual,a spare front rim and tire, and a couple boxes of new spare parts.Starts and runs great, but like he said,it smokes real bad.An oil burner for sure.I might rebuild the engine or use the 14 horse Kohler out of another C-141 that I have.Enjoy the pics.

10 pointsGot the 857 out today and kids did most the driving with messy faces but they loved it! And I didn't have to ask them to smile that just came from driving the horse!

5 pointsThis rusty peice of an 854 followed me me a while back. Missing most of the sheetmetal, and engine, I decided to build sort of a 1045 ish tractor with a fresh rebuilt k181 and some leftover 856 parts. Let me know what you think

5 pointsHaven't done so well keeping up with my updates, but anyways here is another 1. After doing more of these transmissions I realized there were some more mistakes I made on the trans I redid for this tractor, I put new style gears in and in order to do that I need to put a couple washers in between the case and a mushroom gear, as well as I wished I had flipped the axles as the ones in it wobbled back and forth which I'm sure would of leaked. I had a good trans and bearing set laying around so I just decided to build it, it was quicker than going back and fixing this 1. I will go back through this 1 soon and keep it around for a spare. Here is the trans I built for it. Body work on the hood was finished up early this week and yesterday painted the frame and hood. along with the new trans. And today I began assembly...was able to get it just about done. Tomorrow I need to get a different length belt and touch up the paint in a few places and it should be done other than decals which I haven't bought yet. I also may add a set of fenders to it but I kind of like the look without them for now. Thanks, Jake

5 pointsCemetery is up above, it's mostly my family(grandma and grandpa + some others) and the bottom is our play yard!

5 pointsmy 2 cents is the hair dryer/heat gun on the opposite side of where the decal is attached. I find that the adhesive will warm up and as you then begin to remove the decal, it will "let" go.
-
5 pointsThanks glad you liked it! It was a very flattering article- excellent writing by Lorn Manthey. He did a great job with detail to my son also. It has also led to my phone ringing a lot and some very interesting prospects for builds coming up in the future. For those who haven't seen it- they did use a picture including John Campbells Gt-14/16 along with a couple others and it was just over a half page! The interesting part of the phone calls is finding out how many people who do NOT use the internet and have never seen any of the tractors. I'm gathering there is a huge older generation out there who obviously has no use for modern communication- But love reading and looking at real paper in their hands. Its been a real fun experience and Lorn also said that they will run an update if I let him know when we finish a machine which is pretty cool.

4 pointsI started my day by going to a auction were their was a 312-8 up for bids. I waited 2hrs waiting for the auctioneer to get to the horse and about the time he makes it down the line where the 312 was sitting he skips it and moves into the house to do the furniture so i ended up loading my wife and two littlest kids up and leaving feeling a little down. So on the way home checked the local CL and spotted this sweet thing that had just been posted and looked better and was priced right and the best part was i didn't have to fight i whole group of guys over it. will post better pics after i get it unloaded

4 pointsBetween cold front and other obligations this weekend, may not make a lot of headway. But...... Significant Milestone: The Eagle has landed...we uh...Engine is mounted. Finally. Now I need temps to reach paint and body levels.
-
4 pointsHelllloooooooooooo! is any one there? Actually, I'd be at the table with an ice cold coke!
-
4 pointsThe belt guard was missing too, so I fab'd one of those up too. My seat cover from eBay is supposed to be delivered today, can't wait to put it and the seat on tonight!
-
3 pointsGot the motor cleaned and primed and the belt guard and brake guard blasted and primed. Need to do some work on the drive belt guard and prime it again before paint. Getting a little Sun.

3 pointsColor, it's the only color that cost extra. But I liked the silver. and it took longer to get it the normal black red or green. And today was not the day to be on interstate 70, the gusts of wind were a challenge, but me and the ram did it.
-
3 pointsWithout tins you probably do not know spec #. Maybe some Cub board could help you out if you knew the Cub model # Spec number I found all start with 46 46179, 269,270,280,310 329,407,611,632,657,717,734 and 46754
-
3 pointsI will be sure to update if I do decide to put it in a horse. To the best of my knowledge it does not have holes in the block to mount the starter. Thanks for the great information. I was worried that that part may be hard to come by. Glad that it should be easy to get.

3 points"It would seem you are a bit 'green' on tackling this problem" Being a graduate of the school of hard knocks... intelligence guided by past experience, tells me the smart thing to do is to put back the coupling bolts and tighten them. Then start the tractor, and drive it on to a trailer and bring it a pro and pay for stupidity. I am not equipped to to lift the engine or pull off the fly wheel. So God willing I'll be operational again by next week! Thanks for the advice and help. And and I gladly accept the bonehead award:)!!! And 953 nut, thanks for the award, and thank you for your service and sacrifice for nation! Jack

3 pointsIt just slides in the point keep it from coming out. International Harvester used 13 different spec #s of K241s ...I looked at several and they all use points plunger # 4741104s
-
3 pointsIf teh hole isn't threaded it is for the plunger that actuates the points. What kind of ignition system do you have, Magneto/points...battery with points or breakerless????
-
3 pointsHuummm......a night light, eh? I'd like to see a pic of that. That's a really interesting and novel idea. Pay phones used to be ubiquitous (universal & EVERYWHERE), but the cell phone craze, killed them off in fairly short order. I knew a guy who was a couple of years behind me in high school who went to work at Indiana Bell right after graduation and worked for them for 30+ years. Most of his time with the phone company was spent making a service circuit doing nothing but repairing the coin ops and collecting change out of the change lock boxes. Pay phones were one of the highest maintenance items in a phone company's infrastructure...... people would use the receiver to hammer on stuff, try to pry open the change lock box, and generally abuse the crap out of the devices. About the only places I remember seeing a pay phone in the recent past was at an airport or large stadium facility. They're almost antiques now.....and they've not been out of service all that long.
-
3 pointsDoesn't everyone have a pay phone in their yard?? Actually just a night light.Bought the old pay phone for 10 bucks, cleaned it up,painted it,put in a new fluorescent bulb and wired in a photo cell.It lights up a pretty big area in my back yard.I get LOTS of comments about that phone.

3 pointsbeing the kind of savage that I am, I've used my propane torch to warm up the decal before removing

3 points4-2-1513 Ponce de Leon discovers Florida Near present-day St. Augustine, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon comes ashore on the Florida coast, and claims the territory for the Spanish crown. Although other European navigators may have sighted the Florida peninsula before, Ponce de Leon is credited with the first recorded landing and the first detailed exploration of the Florida coast. The Spanish explorer was searching for the “Fountain of Youth,” a fabled water source that was said to bring eternal youth. Ponce de Leon named the peninsula he believed to be an island “La Florida” because his discovery came during the time of the Easter feast, or Pascua Florida. In 1521, he returned to Florida in an effort to establish a Spanish colony on the island. However, hostile Native Americans attacked his expedition soon after landing, and the party retreated to Cuba, where Ponce de Leon died from a mortal wound suffered during the battle. Successful Spanish colonization of the peninsula finally began at St. Augustine in 1565, and in 1819 the territory passed into U.S. control under the terms of the Florida Purchase Treaty between Spain and the United States.

3 pointsSo my wishing got the better of me today and a little blacksmithing later on down sized material 3/8" thick this time and here it is in pre fab mode...bent the sides to match the frame width @ the front attach-a-matic...maybe I should patent it and farm it out for manufacturing ...Anyways guys hope you all like it and get inspired,Jeff.

3 pointsI bought an Echo straight shaft about 10 years ago from my local Toro Dealer. Never a problem and I've put many hours on it over the years....only replaced the "wear and tear" items like the spark plug and the bump head. Just my 2 cents
-
2 pointsThanks. My daughter worked in the shed with me on them for over an hr tonight and wants to help next weekend too. She installed new air filter on the 857 and ran the ratchet to take bolts off wheel weights on the 856. She is good help!

2 pointsGrandpop had the same trailer with the 550 we all grew up learning to drive. That double pivot hitch made backing up especially hard. I owe that trailer for being very good at backing up with trailers. I didn't get my drivers license till I was 50. But despite that every time my wife and I towed it was I that backed the trailers into the driveway every time! Grandpop always had some chore for us to do with the "Little Bastard," christened that due to the Clinton being so hard to start (engine was later replaced with a teccy). We moved many rocks and never busted any welds. I think each of us probably flipped the tractor at least once - easy to do with the mid engine suburbans.
-
2 pointsHi Ho Silver and...... Wait...... That was the Lone Ranger..... Nice looking trailer, Looks really well made as well.
-
2 pointsBen, you might be surprised to find that they used the same holes for all of the mountings and made the mountings to fit. That is a lot of spec #'s Pual...just shows how much that 10 hsp Kohler became popular. Maynard, you are correct, but they are the opposite field coils of what is on a Cub.
-
2 pointsOlder K241's and K301's had starter/generators on them as well. 1045, 1257 for example.
-
2 pointsI also read where a dead nestling will deflate quickly and become nest lining. Mamma thought differently. She picked him up and dropped him over near the side. I guess you can't believe all you read.
-
2 pointsthere is a large bolt holding flywheel to the crankshaft. you will need a puller to get it off i have used a harmonic balancer puller to take them off be carefull to not damage threads in the crank!
-
2 pointsMr. T. Well, they say a happy wife makes for a happy home, so consciously trying to be on the plus side of that equation, is a darn good idea.
-
2 pointsThis is the option I would prefer. However, a few things that probably mean this is least likely to occur. Storage space. I sold a C-195 in great shape last summer as I no longer have space to store additional tractors. I could store it under tarp until I can get to this project as I doubt it would degrade much further...but see last reason. Liquidity - I could use the cash to complete other projects, "GT14 Restomod & Lazarus". As I come down to the final laps on the Restomod it seems like I spend 50-75 bucks every time I turn around on the minutia stuff. Mostly though, trying to finish with enough in slush fund to hit the Big Show and not be on fumes. Lastly, and the biggest reason, my wife while having shown tolerance to pretty much let me do what I wish with this obsession has reached a point where she voiced she felt I should reduce and finish a couple projects...It is significant that she actually voiced this to me so to garner good will, I will most likely set a budget of what I need to wrap up both projects and then list the tractor. If it sells whole to someone who will save it, that is good and ideal. Otherwise, I will start parting it out. Only way I see keeping it is if I have some sort of good karma event:-)
-
2 pointsIf you plan to take it down to bare metal and are not concerned about the existing paint then have at it with whatever! If you are planning to remove the decal and freshen up the look then keep in mind that a heat gun can loosen the paint too and oven cleaner and other products not intended for decal removal will leave residue which will cause paint failure. Use an automotive product that was intended for the job at hand.
-
2 pointsIf my memory is right my echo came with a 5 year warranty that has to say something
-
2 pointsOven cleaner is a very caustic product, so be careful with it and use rubber gloves! Spray it on, let it set and it will soften the decal & adhesive for easier removal.
-
2 pointsWhooo Hooo !!! Engine runs good,& tranny shifts good. Tranny oil even looks good. Gave it an oil change and took it for a nice cruise today.
