9 pointsJust got four news shoes for the C 105. Chains ate the tires up this past winter. I suppose after 35 years they served well... Added an inch width to each and it seems to grab better. Fits great. Also picked up a utility spot light for the back. Hard wired so its on when the lights are on. Found that I never use the lights unless plowing, and since my son and I are going backwards as often as forwards it makes sense...Works great!

7 pointsSo I plowed for the first time ever on Saturday, as I've done nothing but use a walk behind tiller in the years previous. Never again I say, from here forward it will be done from the luxury of a tractor seat! I must have picked the perfect time to plow because it was super easy to turn the dirt. I'm on turf tires, no weights, and no chains. I only had to back up 3 or 4 times. I did run into a slight issue though. I gauged myself off of the front wheel in the furrow, which in turn left me with ridges between each furrow that are the same width as the front tire. Should I have been gauging myself off the rear tire? That's what it seems like to me! Here's a pic of this years plot...I'll post a pic of the "ridges" when I get back home. Here is a pic of the rear of the 520...makes me think about running narrower wheels and tires.

6 pointsIn January I attended a two day seminar titled "Understanding Islam". I came away with a considerable amount of information and knowledge about the global Muslim population; but I will never understand the concept of Islamic Jihad. We are so privileged to live in nations that protect our rights of religion and thought. It is tragic that our freedoms tend to make us vulnerable to those who are convinced that we must conform to their thinking, or die.

6 pointsJack, For $85.00 I couldn't let this go.My 416-8 was rode hard and put up wet many times. The upper dash panel has severe cracks on both lower corners, the hood stand had broken ears at the rear and was poorly repaired.I plan on using this frame, install a gear reduction steering and rebuild the 416 from this frame up.I hope to keep the tractor off line for the least amount of time but still get it nice.JAinVA JimAnderson Gloucester,Va

5 pointsGuys, I found this WH near my house and am interested in your opinion - how much is it worth and what type of market exists for the 60th Anniversary Classic GT? I grew up with a WH and would love to continue the tradition. This is a 2007 (checking on hours, if there's a meter). The gentleman selling it bought it new from the dealer and used it to mow grass and plow light snow. It comes with a 42" mower deck, WH wagon, WH plow blade, and chains. Thanks!

5 pointsEd I can make yours without grommets if it would work better for your display. I will post the dimensions for you soon. Right now I'm enjoying a cold beverage on the patio using my new koozie.

5 pointsFriends, and I mean that most sincerely, this came unexpected and out of the blue. Hit me like a ton of bricks. A few of you know of my own medical conditions I have been dealing with for the past few months. My kid brother and I, and it's just the 2 of us, we're very very close. I just can't explain to the full extent the sorrows and loss I am feeling. Thank the Lord for the love of my wife of 43 years and my 2 sons, my family and these words and prayers from you fellas on red square mean so very very much to me. And again, I thank you all from the depths of my heart. God bless you all. This will help carry me through. Glenn

4 pointsThanks everyone for the kind words. I have always felt that if I can't give something my all, then I shouldn't be doing it. I have stretched myself too thin and some things had to give. I am not leaving the Square by any means. I just can not justify being a moderator here when I have only been checking in once a week. Thanks to all of the support I have received in the hobby and especially our show. This is truly a very special place to be!

4 points3-22-1983 The origins of the Hummer On this day in 1983, the Pentagon awards a production contract worth more than $1 billion to AM General Corporation to develop 55,000 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV). Nicknamed the Humvee and designed to transport troops and cargo, the wide, rugged vehicles entered the spotlight when they were used by the American military during the 1989 invasion of Panama and the Persian Gulf War in the early 1990s. In 1992, a civilian version of the Humvee, known as the Hummer, went on sale. The hulking, attention-grabbing road warrior tipped the scales at some 10,000 pounds and got less than 10 miles per gallon. It was an early hit with Hollywood celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, who went on to own a fleet of Hummers. In December 1999, when the economy was strong and gas prices were relatively low, General Motors purchased the rights from AM General to market and distribute the Hummer. In 2002, the Hummer H2, a smaller (some 8,600 pounds), less expensive version of the original model, debuted. The Hummer became a symbol of America’s super-sized lifestyle; however, the gas-guzzling vehicle was also a target of heavy criticism from environmentalists. According to a 2008 report on Salon.com, in August 2003, “Hummer-hating eco-vandals [struck] four car dealerships in Southern California’s San Gabriel Valley, destroying, defacing and burning dozens of Hummers and other SUVs, while scrawling love notes like ‘Fat, Lazy Americans’ about the premises.” In 2005, the Hummer H3, an even smaller (5,800 pounds), more fuel-efficient (16 to 20 miles per gallon) vehicle, was released. The following year, GM ended production of the original Hummer, due to low sales. In 2008, as Americans faced a growing economic crisis and rising gas prices, along with increasing environmental concerns, Hummer sales shrunk by more than 50 percent. In December 2008, GM, which was hard hit by the global recession and slumping auto sales, received a multi-billion-dollar federal bailout loan in order to stay afloat. On June 1, 2009, the auto giant, which until 2008 had been the world’s top-selling maker of cars and trucks, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The following day, GM announced that as part of its reorganization plans it would sell the Hummer brand to a Chinese machinery company.

4 pointsIn the backround of the first photo is the reason momma lets me use her truck. She has seen how much I can get on the 350 and figures her truck is a type of fuse.As far as the missing parts go,the 312 will be the basis of a project I will call the dark horse.JimAnderson

3 pointsHe's got an old run down piece of junk rust bucket that was never taken care of and was abused and neglected and was the color of his (unwashed) skivvies. Begged me to take it off his hands cause the neighbors were starting to whine about his taste in tractors...... NAAWW....just kidding..... a show RJ59.....he needs the cash to buy a old run down piece of....... nevermind.....did mention something about green and yellow tho
-
3 pointsI don't know what it's worth, but if the seller is asking $500 to $1000 for a 9-year old, 350-hour tractor with a deck, blade, and cart then he hasn't been looking very hard for similar machines in his area. A 10-year older 520 can easily bring $1200 or better. A 40 year old C-160 can knock on the door of $1000 with three attachments. If you found one with such low hours it would be a hot commodity in these circles. Ill be be contrary and say the decals do in fact add something to the tractor. It's the end of an era. An omega. In other circles (cars, guns, stamps...) final runs can be more highly valued. I don't see why not here. Given age and condition alone, he probably ought to be in the $1500 range. Would not surprise me if he wanted even more. 50% depreciation in 9 years would still have it being quite valuable. Anyway, I don't know what it's really worth. But I think we're aiming low as a group here. Best of luck. Steve

3 pointsI had a deck worse than yours. Cut and weld. Turned out good and saved a deck. Your old deck is heavier metal than that newer one which looks like there is a metal bar added between the two rear brackets.

3 pointsHello red square new member here, I would like to share my very first tractor with you all. A 1958 rj58 that I picked up the other day. This past Friday I left work a half hour early to make it to the bank to only travel 10 mins down the road from my job to purchase a rj. So I took it home and enjoyed my weekend staring at it! Can't play yet with it... Have some searching and work to do XD

3 pointsWow, nice haul but your going to need to step it up a bit to keep up with the haulers on this forum! Just some quick figuring and you should have been able to load another 5 side by side and one hangin out the truck bed! Cuts down on the cost per Wheelhorse that way! Just kidding,so many possibilities with that Wheelhorse. You know you have a great wife when she hauls with her truck! Have to show this to my wife. Thanks for posting.

3 pointsnot sure it's worth a lot more now as an anniversary addition at this point in time. but there was only so many built, i forget the exact number built. I would like to add one to my stable someday and i have a buddy that bought one and only drove it around at shows so it looks like brand new with less then 20 hrs on it and it was signed by Cecile Pond. he had it for sale at shows asking about what he paid for it new and so far nobody has taken him up on it. with some luck it could be worth more in years to come if it is taken care of and not used and abused, but it is still a gamble. i say don't buy it for the value a lone but buy it and take care of it and it may just pay you back in the long run eric j

3 pointsYeah, once you start a collection, it'll keep growing and growing.. Good deals will pop up from time to time, like the one you are looking at now. But when those good deals pop up, you have to jump on them right away. About a month or two ago a guy in the Lancaster area had a barnfull of wheel horses, I jumped on that right away, and someone still got ahead of me. All of them sold in a couple hours. Plus, collecting is very fun. I buy and sell, to get money to buy and keep. But once you get into it, you meet all kinds of people and see all different kinds of things, its interesting. I wish you luck!
-
3 pointsYeah I'm addicted to shows and basically all aspects of the vintage farm and garden world, I just got to get a collection going, sounds like your not having any trouble! Thanks for giving me a goal, that's for sure! Awesome to hear other people my age into this stuff!
-
3 pointsThanks! I hope I can get it too. My dad has been giving me tips when buying, we have a bunch of round fender I'd 110's, a couple speedex's, and two Baird beaver tractors. I have two that are "mine" but I have never actually bought myself a tractor. I have bought myself 4 maytag engines, but no tractor. I appreciate your tips because I'm not sure I would've thought to check for a loose engine but oh well, I'm only 15 and still learning! I really appreciate all of the help I am receiving on this site! Makes me glad I joined!

3 pointsHood and gas tank came out pretty good. Front bearings ordered and should be in on Friday. Next week I should have a roller.
-
3 pointsOh man that '57 would be a good stable mate to my 1057 six speed! Let me know if things don't work out for you on it!! Really whats up with that?!?!? Sure is a cutie tho! ...Good horses must come in pairs!!! Sure yeah right ...I use that one all the time ...and you'll get no seat time on it!!!
-
3 pointsDrove them both into the shed. Gonna hopefully get the wheels cleaned up tomorrow. Too cold today
-
3 pointsThat has to be the Most Posted Picture on Red Square. "Squonk waiting for the bus." Here is what I am bringing to the show...this horse is a roller, I'll be looking for a few parts.

2 pointsMy brother and I took a 2 1/2 hour drive south west of Richmond to look at a 416-8. It was advertised as a 89 but the model number and the single cylinder Kohler makes it an 88. Needs a seat or 4 rolls of black tape. Sheet metal needs TLC and paint in many areas. Runs strong and trans has not problems . Hour meter indicates 2400 plus hours ( not sure if it works). Engine and mechanical parts do not indicate that many hours. Came with a mule drive and 42 inch RD deck ( or should I say 3 good spindles , blades and attachment mechanism ). Had to dicker some but owner can down on price . Loaded up truck and came home . Almost forgot I did not know that used JD green and yellow on 520s. Like a train wreck. ( This maybe view on C L Richmond Virginia . On the way home we saw the world ugliest Lincoln Camino. Some one with way too much time on hands and mechanical skills (?) converted a Lincoln Continental with suicide doors into a land yacht convertible top pickup .Sorry no picture . Tractor is parked , pictures tomorrow.

2 pointsI know what you mean about the broken hood stand. Mine is broke on my 312 but I repaired with heavier angle iron. And I have parted out a couple 400 series and had bad upper dashes. Its nice to have that stuff in your inventory.
-
2 pointsIt's a nice looking Wheel Horse, as to the value, that's up to you and the seller. But my opinion is somewhere between 1000.00 and 500.00 ?
-
2 pointsUnfortunately it's true about the decals. That's the only thing that makes it a 'special edition'. There is something to the fact that it's the last year they were made. If the price is right I'd say go for it but it's not like it's going to fund your retirement account. Cared for it will last your lifetime.
-
2 pointsDear friend Glenn , I feel sooo sad for you mate , I pray that you have tons of strength in the coming weeks , rest assured buddy that my love & thoughts are with you & your family at this time . God bless mate Neil
-
2 points312Hydro, I am going to stop hauling them home.I truly believe they reproduce like rabbits, just let the sun go down and presto. JimAnderson
-
2 pointsYou can never have too , tell your wife you will get rid of the horse when she gets rid of 1/2 her clothes. Make sure you have somewhere to stay after the comment about clothes. Also RUN
-
2 pointsYes what ever bolt goes into the crank pulls it on. The reason I say what ever bolt is the electro 12 I have sitting here in the shop uses a 3/8 16 bolt to hold it on. Not sure why GT 14 uses 7/16" other than it the type that uses a 7/8 " bolt to push it off
-
2 pointsNot to steal the thread, but is there anything to be aware of while reversing the process and installing it back on? Does the 7/16 assist in re-installing the clutch? Be very careful as a puller may irrevocably damage the clutch. An impact or air wrench with the correct 5/8 bolt will do all the work for you.
-
2 pointsWell as promised I am sending pictures of the 416-8 . Hopefully I don't mess up. I was going today to make a list etc but the weather is nasty (nothing falling yet ) and my naps kept getting in the way. One of these days I will learn to take better pictures. It is a model 31-16k804 serial number 28460. Have not checked serial number on engine. It is a Magnum 16.
