15 pointsWell my good friend joe at imissthefarm.com makes all kinds stuff with basically any tractor you want... He emailed me the other day to tell me he started to try cell phone cases with tractors or tractor logos on them.. I immediately told him to send me one with the wheel horse and logo on it.. I got it today and he says he will be getting better and better at it but I'm 100% happy with it. Actually might have him make me a backup one with a wheel horse tractor on it. And if he don't have the tractor your looking for email him (tell him Greg from NY sent ya) and he will either find you the tractor your looking for or send him a nice big picture of your own tractor. He is one of the nicest guys to deal with! I will post pic of my case asap!

10 pointsWell I "Finally" got AG tires on the front of my Horse.. What a pain lol .. How she look guys ?
-
7 pointsI had a tough time deciding what tires to put on the D160, I wanted 15 inch AGs for my extra set of 15 inch rims, but I couldn't find a set that had a good farm lug pattern and were of the right size. So I decided to use the Interco Interforce 30x10-12 farm AG and the 4.00-12 front tri-rib with 4 bolt hubs and steel rims. The rear Interco's arrived today, I'll mount these on my stock D rims
-
7 pointsGuess I could get "messy" but heavy rain outdoors and cozy next to the wood stove. What's the rim offset for WH rims? 23 x 10.5 x 12" tires. I'm thinkin' 60/40 but very old brains memory. The Ms. will be home soon, OMG! I didn''t get anything on my honey-do list done!

6 pointsI had a great visit with a good friend today. Roger Parmley is a great Wheel Horse enthusiast and collector. He has done some very nice work at preserving some of the better model Wheel Horse tractors. I visited today as he had most of his horse out of the stable and running ! He was getting ready for this year's show season ! I could not pass posting some of the photos we took as you very seldom see a collection that has so many nice tractors! I know how much we just like to look at these but today I was able to drive the 876 Automatic and the 500 Special around and enjoy the thrill of operating them. This was in between visiting the welder today on my RJ rebuild, gridning down my frame for primer, painting the RJ frame with primer ! (those RJ frame photos will be on the "So You Want to Rebuild Your Three Piece Transmission" thread Stevasaurus is doing with a great deal of participation from the Red Square Community.

5 pointsI got the transmission and frame bolted together and up on stands this afternoon. I put gear oil in the transmission and started assembly and decided to let it sit a day to make sure there is no leaks.

5 points2-24-1836 Alamo defenders call for help On this day in 1836, in San Antonio, Texas, Colonel William Travis issues a call for help on behalf of the Texan troops defending the Alamo, an old Spanish mission and fortress under attack by the Mexican army. A native of Alabama, Travis moved to the Mexican state of Texas in 1831. He soon became a leader of the growing movement to overthrow the Mexican government and establish an independent Texan republic. When the Texas revolution began in 1835, Travis became a lieutenant-colonel in the revolutionary army and was given command of troops in the recently captured city of San Antonio de Bexar (now San Antonio). On February 23, 1836, a large Mexican force commanded by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana arrived suddenly in San Antonio. Travis and his troops took shelter in the Alamo, where they were soon joined by a volunteer force led by Colonel James Bowie. Though Santa Ana’s 5,000 troops heavily outnumbered the several hundred Texans, Travis and his men determined not to give up. On February 24, they answered Santa Ana’s call for surrender with a bold shot from the Alamo’s cannon. Furious, the Mexican general ordered his forces to launch a siege. Travis immediately recognized his disadvantage and sent out several messages via couriers asking for reinforcements. Addressing one of the pleas to “The People of Texas and All Americans in the World,” Travis signed off with the now-famous phrase “Victory or Death.”

5 pointsHere's my home made Pedal hydro clutch for the GT14, basically created from parts I had laying around from my tractor stash... works really good and basically unbreakable.... also the "T" handle can be used like always if you prefer like when you backing into a tight spot or shed.

4 pointsOkay Ed, will do my best to answer your questions: Hey Rob, I like it. I also like the capability of still being able to use the hand control when I am twisted around in the seat to back in the barn or to hook up a trailer. Just a couple questions. What is the function of the notched piece on the foot pedal? If you notice there are two (2) pedals one for the toe of your shoe (forward) and the other for the heal of your shoe (reverse)... the notched rod is reverse lever operated with you heal this was previously a brake lever from another tractor the ratchet notches were used on it (no longer used) to set the brake. This allows you control the forward and reverse motion very well (overcome friction etc) and control the forward and reverse motion) . I use this mostly when I am snow blowing and with my heavy work boots I found that it was a real pain to try and use the "T" handle while lifting and lowering the blower.. with this foot rocker it is a breeze ... What keeps the horizontal rod from binding in the pipe guide as the vertical rod must move up and down as it rotates ? See my above response there is some binding but the robust parts and simplicity of the design over comes this very well How much pedal travel do you have from full forward to full reverse ? Roughly three (3) inches Does the GT 14 also have the left foot pedal that puts the F/R in neutral and applies the brake ? Yes works same as OEM design by Wheel Horse to put the tractor in neutral no real brake other then that of the Sundstrand auto trans

3 pointsI'm pretty much finished cleaning the 420LSE. I just have get the gold plate made for the hood. Overall it's in pretty nice shape. I put some new tires on the back. The bottom seat could be redone at some point. I patched one hole as best as I could. I'm very happy overall with her. Can't wait to mow with it!!!

3 pointsSeals have improved. On my old tractors and M37. There were 1/2 inch thick. The was a felt band (to keep out he dirt and then a leather inner seal. (Ever wonder why it was called Chicago Rawhide (CR seals)) Problem was the felt would get wet and hold dirts /grit wearing the shaft.... New seals are neoprene/rubber etc. and half as thick.

3 pointsThere was another call for help on Sept. 11, 2012 from Benghazi, Libya. Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, and Navy Seals Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods died. Their calls for help went unanswered also...
-
3 pointsoriginals are flat. Stretched from use and fuel makes them look like the one you have it is probably stiff and lost its flexibility The one in the internet pic is for the lever type the lever pulls down and the spring push's back up The diaphragm is hooked to the mechanical lever Brian

3 pointsWell i got it home and really glad i did! It loaded well but i think I'm going to replace a few bad wires and clean out gas take and a carb rebuild. Go through it carefully and then she'll be happy, happy, happy. Thanks for all your comments.
-
3 pointsThat is kind of what I was thinking as I was reading this, wonder if it is the proper S/G or if it may have been replaced with a CCW unit which is the most common type?

3 pointsI don't have one of Matts foot controls, but I have met Matt at the WHCC show and he makes a great product and I have never heard any negative reports. I don't know if he makes a control for a GT 14 . I also don't know if this would work on your tractor, but here is a pic of the F/R control I made for my '89 520H.

2 pointsLooks good! Hopefully we get more snow and you can report back on how it steers. I have read that on the steer axle they should be turned the opposite direction for more control.

2 pointsSteve, if look at the parts diagram for the 2007 classic garden tractor (315 8 speed) it shows two outer seals and call for 4 of them to be used. The quality of the seals Toro uses now, maybe they need 2. I myself have switched to national seal. There made by Federal Mogal. They still use steel in the outer ring.

2 pointsThe Deestones I bought said they were 6 ply "RATED". I pushed two heavy snows that were 8 inches deep on a 400 foot driveway and did a little tilling the next spring and the lugs are nearly gone. Here is a picture of them new and they weren't that big/deep of lugs to start with, imagine half of that lug worn down, yeah. The Deestones were half the price of the Intercos, but after lasting barely two years they were a terrible buy. I paid 142.00 apiece for the Interco delivered to the door, I will never wear them out, that is what I call cost effective, and a deal. The Deestones look nice and I suppose if you don't actually use your tractor they might last a while, but I hardly overworked them and they were dead dogs. The felling of the savings disappeared about as quick as the lugs did.
-
2 pointsHey Rob, Maybe we could bring them to the big show and sell demo rides. Of course all the profits would be donated to the WHCC.

2 pointsI tried a different washer. Used one per roller and put flat washer on to take up any residual looseness. Rollers will still turn but you have to push hard on them. They put up to 25 lbs resistance.
-
2 pointsThere are double lipped seals. Use some on my big tractors. The inner lip is to keep the oil in the outer lip supposedly keeps dirt/trash out. I got one for D200 hydro pump input shaft

2 pointsYVW Ed, If we get some nice weather in a few days I will make a movie and attach it which will clearly show you how well this set-up works or send me a P/M with your e-mail address and I will forward it to you if you want?I have been using it as shown for 2 yrs with no issues... the other criteria I had is that I can return it to bone stock in 10 mins should I ever want to.

2 pointsI like the tread pattern on the Super 500s, plus they are, they and the Carlisle Turf-Trac, are the best tires on the market. Or you could go Big Dog and buy some Duro Frontiers or Maxxis Ceros like these rears that will work for about anything, coupled with a 5.70-8 front tire that is 18 inches tall and you have ease of steering and turning, This set up gives great ground clearance for plowing snow and gardening as well. i used four bolt hubs and wheels, but you don't have to.

2 pointsI picked up my RJ frame from my welder yesterday. I had taken the frame to the welder as it was missing the left side of the hoodstand welded to the frame. This is the side that the left handle latch with the knotch on it sets in place when the rear hitch is lifted up. This was cut off on the frame I had purchased -so I needed some additions. The little knotch piece rides about 6 1/2 inches from the bottom of the frame and is about 4 inches long. It is placed at about a 30 degree angle from the frame. Picture # 3 shows the new left side with the kotch welded on before I primed it. Photo # 4 is the front part of the frame that some previous work was done on with some welding done to the frame. Looks like steer bars were added on the sides with heavy weld beads . I used a 4 inch angle grinder to drind that all down before painting with grey primer. Photo # 6 is what the left side hoodstand piece with lift handle knotch looks like on a restored RJ. I also completed the painting of the RJ 18 hole seat pan seen in photo # 6. The final photo shows the "before" picture of the hood and frame with the left side of the hoodstand cutoff. This final picture I added in an edit shows that the weld bead from the fourth photo (above) has mostly been removed with the angle grinder.

2 pointsAND IT ALSO KEEPS THE TRACTOR FROM MOVING....HENCE A "PARKING BRAKE"! I have a 875 and use it weekly to mow my lawn.

2 pointsI'm sure a few leisurely strolls around the show grounds will cure any "funk" your in. Glad to hear the mending is going good! Mike.........
-
2 pointsPaul, I'm thinking your 603 has the roundish tank(circled) that mounts to the dash tower. I thought the tank mounted on top of the brackets the two arrows point to... do these pics make sense ?

2 pointsOne thing to maybe be aware of with the Cub Cadet starter/generators...the Cubs use a "clockwise rotation" starter/generator. Might have CW stamped on the back end. Wheel Horses use the "counter-clockwise rotation" starter/generator...CCW. This may make a difference if you have to order parts. Sorry guys...I got it backwards. Cubs use the Counter-clock wise rotation. Wheel Horse uses the Clockwise rotation.

2 pointsI took advantage of the warm weather and did a little painting this weekend. I blasted the tool box and fenders and primed them. And I also got a few tins, transmission and frame painted. After they cure a few days I will start final assembly.
